I just had dinner here. My wife came with me she didn't eat because she doesn't like Chinese food but loves me so she wanted to visit with me during dinner. My wife only had water we told the waitress that it was just me eating. When I was done she brings us a bill for $27 for 2 buffets. I told her that my wife didn't eat anything. The staff up front starts telling us off. They then look at the camera and see ahe never went to the buffet or got any food. The girl at the register tells me she needs my phone number. I ask why. She then says I need to tell them right away if one of us doesn't eat. I told her we told the waitress. I told her they need to learn English. She started yelling at me to get out. Food is very greasy and tastes the same. There are signs that say they have the right to charge for food wasted. I went to the buffet last night and had a very bad experience. I went to wok to have something cooked, steak was so tough impossible to chew, chicken very dry and tough. The cooked plate had no taste to it. Tried wonton soup, no wontons in it. Sushi bar all prepared items were dried out, tough and no taste. I was visiting a friend in Athens and she told me about this restaurant and I was hungry and decided sure why not. Well I ordered shrimp fried rice like I always do, and sesame chicken. And my friend got chicken wings and chicken fried rice. We were right down the street and had to use this delivery service they use and they were a bit expensive for right down the street. Well when the food arrived I was very disappointed that at best there were only 6 shrimp in the whole thing If that. Then the sesame chicken wasn't that great, so I called and asked for the manager and told her how displeased I was for the order not being to my liking. And she said I got the special and there is only a few shrimp in the special, and the delivery service they use should have specified that, but failed to do so, well of course she didn't want to rectify the situation, so that is why I will never eat or order from there again. read more

I am embarrassed to say how many times I've been here with friends and family. The place is dark, huge with every kind of Asian and American foods your little heart desires. Everything is good. Horrible experience!! My son ate 2 crayfish and became very nauseated. He was unable to eat anything else. We told the manager about this and they said that since he ate at least one bite there is nothing they can do. I will not be going back, and I have been a customer for 10 years. I consider China Star Super Buffet to be about the finest restaurant in Athens. The food is delicious, well prepared and presented, and there is a tremendous variety of choices. One can eat Chinese or NOT eat Chinese. The servers are very professional and courteous. Unlike some Chinese restaurants, there is no lingering odor at China Star Super Buffet. The restaurant is quite attractive, clean and spacious. Although there is background music, you can easily hear and talk with other people. WOULD HAVE GIVEN ZERO STARS IF ABLE! I SIGNED UP ON YELP JUST BECAUSE MY EXPERIENCE AT THIS PLACE WAS SO BAD. I grabbed some vegetable sushi. Ingredients listed on the tag were tofu and 3 other vegetables. When I got it to my table it looked suspiciously like it contained crab meat, so I went to ask on of the cooks about it. ME: excuse me, does this have crab in it? COOK: no. ME: do you know what this is?(pointing to what I think is crab) COOK: crab. ME: so this DOES have crab in it? COOK: yes. ME: oh...it doesn't say it has crab in it. COOK:(blank stare, shrugs it off) I realize I shouldn't expect a lot being a vegetarian at a buffet. I can usually find a couple things to eat. I, at the very least, don't expect to be lied to about what is in the food...to my face...twice. AUTOMATIC FAIL. The one thing I could eat (I hope) was bland. My wife and I have been coming here for a while now and the food is very good. It is not what I would pay for in a fine oriental restaurant charging $20-40 per plate, but for a buffet it is the best in Athens. I have never liked the chocolate fountain at any restaurant. I'm gonna tell you a story that none of you will imagine could happen...but it did...Me, Tim, and David went to China Star Super Buffet in Athens Ga this weekend. We walked in and could smell the stench of old not fresh uncooked fish...not cooked fish, nor fresh uncooked fish, old uncooked fish (anyone who has been to unkept fish market on a warm summer day knows this smell) we ignored it because at this point we were tired and hungry. We went up to the buffet and got our plates. David got his usual French Fries and Chicken Nuggets he ate one fry and said "Not great but maybe it will last better with Katchup." He goes to the buffet and come back to find the Katchup is no good. Tim comes back with his plate to find that the Chicken Pot Pie Roll dough was disgusting and the chicken was bad and the Stuffed Crab tasted much like the unfresh seafood smell in the dinning room. I tried a Egg Roll and the filo dough the used was not good and the filling discusting. So at this point David had already given up on his fries and went to get some ice cream and the said the ice cream was not good like it has been thawed and refrozen. So at this point I politly asked the waitress to get the manager. A short girl with an a dismissive attitude from the beginning comes to the table and in fairly decent English asked what the issue is. With a table with three barely touched plates. I explain the situation. Then she shrugs her shoulders and said through a suddenly thicker accent said roughly "What do you want me to do about it"....I then said. "This is not the quality I am use to. We typically go to your families other restaraunt Hibachi Grill and never have an issue there." I said "I don't feel that based on all these issues that this is worth paying for." She then said roughly in worsening broken english "I should call the police?" I responded by saying "I have been nothing but polite to you and politely complained about your food and that's your response?" I said "Then yes go again and call them" (No issue for us since we have friends on the Athens Police force)We then asked to speak to the Owner...a soft spoken quiet man who refused to help in the situation and handed the situation back the the girl who was doing nothing more at this point but gaslighting the situation further. We began to wait for the police and then the girl comes back with the bill. We then go up to the cash register to inform her that we would not be paying and will wait for the police. Which by this time we realized she never called but instead she had decided to continue gaslighting the situation and loudly says from behind the register "Someone need help me they maybe try and be kill me." At this point Tim is fed up with her gaslighting us he gets the $43.00 out of his wallet and throws it on the counter. (ok I guess the last 3 dollars got thrown toward her one at a time) As he's paying her he looks at her after her melodramatic statement and says "No one is trying to kill you...Quit acting stupid" Her response to him was.... " I know you Stupid" I at this point am fed up Tim has paid and so I assume we are leaving so I walk out as Tim stops inside to again tells the owner what she has done and why we are leaving. As I walk out she followed me outside and Tim comes out behind at which point she began flipping us off even reaching into the car as Tim get in the car screaming "£u@× you motha you go £u@× you motha". We leave and after which Tim calls his friend on Athens Police to advise that if they are called to the scene that we did nothing and we paid. And we will never return...I would ask all who read this and are as flabbergasted as me not to return either. Please share with as many Athenians and locals as you can....They wanna act this way...I will show them what a consumers word of mouth will get them. read more

I normally avoid buffets like the plague, but, traveling with a large group of teenagers, we wound up here. The hostess didn't blink when we said there were ten people in our party and we wouldn't mind being split up, and she immediately sat us together. Our waitress was spot-on with drinks and refills. Okay, so I went there by myself to make sure it was good before taking a friend. It was so I took them. We have been there a couple times since and it was good overall. What pissed me off is that they started this "card"where they stamp it and after so many visits you get a free meal. I had been there already three times and they knew that. Still they refused to give me those stamps. I forgave them that grudgingly. I went this evening and just missed lunch. They refused to mark my lunch card. Said I had to start a dinner card. There were three of us tonight and I had a coupon. When I went to pay they said I could only get two stamps because I used a coupon! I tried to give away my card with my two stamps to the guy behind me. He declined. Said the steak from the hibachi grill was tough and dry. Finally, I found some to take my stamped card. My friend told me the steak was tough and dry too. I never told them the guy said that. Over all, the quality of the food has dropped in the short time we have been going there. So badly that I'd go somewhere else even if I didn't have a coupon. These people will find any excuse to screw people out of the free meal. Don't go to this place. I don't care if you have a coupon or a free meal. Not worth your time today, tomorrow, or anytime in the future. They don't respect their customers and don't deserve our support! read more

I moved to Athens 2 years ago and this was a pretty good place in terms of quality and price. Eventually they increased the price. Also, dinner is much more expensive ($23 for two) and the items are about the same. Two years ago my roommate and I went here once every 1 or 2 weeks. I stopped going there after 6 months, but because I was on a diet for my wedding. I recently went back there with my wife and it was less than sub par. We went at 9:45pm on a Saturday when they closed at 11pm. It wasn't crazy busy but there were other tables there. Overall, the food was a complete disappointment. Most of the food was dried out from sitting in the buffet for several hours. The hot and sour soup had so much pepper I actually choked on it. I would have gotten egg drop soup, but they wouldn't bring out more. The hibachi bar looked like "eat at your own risk." I couldn't tell you how long the raw meat had been sitting out and there was like 3 veggies to choose from. My wife complained about the cake tasting like it was 2 weeks old. Pretty much everything tasted really bland, greasy, over breaded, dried out, and overcooked. I LOVE broccoli and got some with some chicken, but some was mushy and some was hard and raw. What's the deal? ALSO, the idiot employees started mopping everywhere at 10pm. I was in the restroom and some guy started mopping all around me. Couldn't he wait like 2 minutes for me to leave and finish??? Plus the whole hallway was slippery and wet with no wet floor sign. I won't be going back there any time soon. Peking on the east side of town is WAY better. The TVs are actually kind of annoying. You either find yourself watching them and ignoring your friend or vice versa because the TVs are only facing one direction. And what's the deal with the manager using the microphone to tell the kitchen staff what needs to be refilled? btw - I don't think they challenge customers on the "leave too much food uneaten and we charge you." I try not to waste just for the sake of not wasting but a few times I filled up my plate with various items only find that they all were not good. My wife and I went there Friday night (1/29/16) with some friends to eat. Half way thru our meal my pregnant wife and friend spotted a roach on the sushi bar. She was so disgusted and stopped eating as well as we all did except I finished my plate of crab legs. My wife told the waitress about the roach and how it ruined her appetite and her meal. She felt like she shouldn't have to pay for the meal since she wasn't able to finish it from disgust. The waitress and she said that the roaches are everywhere. Our two friends also couldn't finish their meal because of it. They felt that they shouldn't have to pay as well since the roach was on the bar. I didn't mind paying since I finished my crab legs. The manager begin arguing with my wife about how all she wanted was a free meal and my wife said that she expected to come here as we always do and eat and not worry about roaches on the bar.
