OK it is crazy that I can recall this building and restaurant from 1986 when I graduated UGA. However I have never been here before that I can remember. I wanted some Chinese food today and after a brief Yelp search we decided that today we would go to Peking! The name itself is old school, how long ago has it been since Beijing took over? The outside of the building sure looks like a 1970's - 80's Chinese restaurant. The interior continues the retro look, and is exactly what I was hoping to see. The certificate of occupancy at the entrance says 1988 but I am certain there has been a restaurant here for longer. Ok on to the food. Yelpers say there is a huge menu here. That must be for dinner. The lunch menu has all your basic and expected Chinese menu items as a lunch combo. The TLDR is the food was good but not great, everything needed more seasoning. Our combos started with hot and sour soup with the required chips. The soup was sour yes, but could have used some more spice. My general Tso chicken came out hot and crispy. Seemed to be all white meat but was cooked a little too long so not exactly tender and juicy. The sauce was red and sweet. Sometimes the General adds some vegetables, but not today. Although the menu had the hot pepper symbol by this item, no spice detected. The rice was fine, seemed to be lightly stir fried with egg bits. The egg roll was a limp instrument with some kind of meat in it. It tasted fine. Megan had the beef and broccoli. There was plenty of both beef and broccoli and other veggies included. The problem again was lack of seasoning. The meal was sauced together with a bland tan gravy like you might put on some roast beef. Even though her plate said "Peking" on it, Megan did not like her meal so we split my huge chicken plate, which she liked a lot. This lunch was a good example of the old "the food is not great but the portions are huge" saw. Service was not fast but was ok. I would give this another try for dinner, but probably not lunch. read more

Love Peking since I was little. My family has always come here and never had any issues or complaints. Authentic Chinese cuisine. The service is always good. Best Chinese food in Athens! This place has consistently had delicious food for the last 20 years, I have been going. Their takeout portions are absolutely humongous. I usually get 4-5 meals from it. I haven't done their buffet, but I'm sure it's great as well! read more

Well decor is tired, worn out and dated. Lighting is dim. TV on the wall played ESPN ( not Fox News) However, the food is better than it used to be. Dumplings are meaty and properly prepared. "FIVE SPECIAL" beef was spicy with lots of Schezwan peppercorns for great ma-wa flavor. Shrimp dish had extra large shrimp well flavored and with good vegtables Portions were enormous. I have been coming to Peking for many many years. Despite the fact, they have not renovated, or updated the interior in many many decades, we came to this place because it was familiar. I do not care what the politics of the owners of businesses are. Until they put them in my face. Lately, for some reason, management has seen that to have Fox News on, in the main area of the restaurant. I do not care for Fox News. I think they are dangerous to our country. I understand that some people don't agree with me, and that's OK. What you do in your own home or in private is your business. But when you force me to watch Fox News while I eat my dinner, that's a problem. I will come back one more time, but if it is on, I am walking out, and never walking back. Grease. Grease. Grease. We got two Mongolian beefs on the weekend when you can't get lunch specials and requested that ours be made with less pil to avoid tummy upset. We got a flavorless tub of beef with a swimming pool of grease at the bottom. I have never experienced this much grease in a Styrofoam container. You can spoon it out with utensils for fun or maybe take the grease home and fry some chicken the next day. Atrocious. read more

First off, the food was very tasty. My husband and I couldn't believe how much if a serving an entree is. For us, it was like 1 entree is good for two! Even though we haven't had anything since 11am that morning, we still have a bunch of leftovers! Great customer service, unfortunately I didn't get her name, but she was very shy I can tell but did a great job serving us. Food came out in a timely manner. I love how the place looks like a temple or something of sort, the ambiance was peaceful, the music they were playing help soothes your mind while waiting for the food. Visited based on social media recommendations. Boy was I wrong. Visited the area and came inside to find there was no longer a Buffet. The worker was not inviting or enthusiastic at all. Resturant was very dark and looked aged. Two families were eating in, but the place was basically empty. Smelled weird, like an old store or old home. I kept it simple and ordered Chicken Wings, Wonton Soup and Peking Rice. The rice waa white and had no taste of fried rice, no soy sauce or onion that I'm used to. The chicken wings tasted scorched, like something went wrong with the oil while frying them. The soup, they add shrimp too which was fine, I like shrimp. But...the broth gave off a fishy seafoody taste that overpowered everything. $30 dollars for Chinese and it was not enjoyable. I had to trash it. read more

Preparing the food order to get it to somebody when they request for specific time this order should've been started prepared at 12:30 so that it could've been delivered by one that's when I requested for my food to be here and I should not have to pay for delivery charges. I am taking my lunch at 1 o'clock so that means if my food is delayed getting to me that means I don't even have the time to be able to eat my lunch because I only own lunch for an hour and I ordered this early. read more

Had a big post-Christmas lunch order. Everything was really good, as I have come to expect over the many years Peking has been in business here in Athens. The Snow White chicken was the best, followed closely by the Mongolian Beef, and sesame chicken. Egg rolls were extra crispy and the rice to go along with our order was abundant. It was a call-in order so we didn't eat inside, but I saw quite a few people come in to be seated. The order was ready in exactly the 20 minutes that they said it would take. So good and so pleasantly surprised! I have been wanting to try Peking for forever as I always drive by. Started with amazing crab Rangoon's (10/10 for Athens food) and had the sesame chicken and garlic chicken extra spicy. Our waitress was nice and we were seated immediately when we walked in. Our total was under $45 too! Only thing that could be improved is the interior and we were given takeout paper menus as the regular menu. We will definitely be back, give this place a try! read more

Updated review. Businesses rise and fall on customer service. Tonight we called to see if their dining room was open. "Yes, we're open but you have to sit in the back and no large group." "There's 2 of us" "That's fine" So we drove AN HOUR TO ATHENS to have dinner only to be told upon arrival that in fact they aren't open for seating and of course she doesn't know who we spoke to on the phone. Ordered food for delivery directly from Resturant . They only charge 3.00 for delivery , I was told it would take 45 mins to an hour it arrived in 30 mins. The lunch menu portions were more than enough . Everything was neatly packaged and the quality and taste was very good . It has been several years since I have eaten there . So let start by giving you a little back round as to why my family and I drove 40 min Athens to eat here. My coworker grew up in Athens and has been eating here for over 20 years! So EVERYDAY he tells us how good Peking is and that it is the best Chinese he has ever had. Today after work we decided to drive al the way there to see what the hype was all about. As we pulled up we saw what looked like an ancient Chinese house or temple that has seen better days Upon walking in We noticed that the interior was kinda dark and has not been updated in a while either. We were greeted by a smiling hostess and seated right away. We ordered the crab Rangoon as an appetizer. They where delicious and fresh. For dinner we decided to order a few items to share family style and I'm so glad we did the portions were huge !Our order came out in less than 12 minutes We ordered the sweet and sour chicken , sesame chicken, Mongolian beef and chicken fried rice. We also ordered a side of peking sauce . You know that red hot commercial where it says I put that $£%! On everything same with the Peking sauce it completed every dish! The sweet-and-sour and sesame chicken was fired to perfection with juicy chicken center. The Mongolian beef was tender and delicious. Conclusion: I would have given this place a 5 star if it was kept in better condition. I wish it was closer to us. Waitress was rude and food was tough and when asked about the toughness waitress replied that Orange Chicken was a tough dish and when she brought check she said maybe next time try a different chicken that isn't tough. This is the worst Chinese food we've ever had. We took a group of 6 for a birthday party and not one of us could eat the food. It smelled bad when it was brought to the table. We tried/taste tested each thing, it was bland, all tasted the same with a horrible rotten after taste. The egg roll had gristle in it, crab Rangoon has no crab and no cream cheese just a burnt wonton, paper chicken had zero seasoning and the texture of rubber and all of the main plates were completely un-edible. Even though we didn't eat a whole meal and only tasted it, we are all sick to our stomach's. A complete waste of $150.00 and a birthday ruined. Do not recommend this place at all.
