I love a good shrimp and broccoli combo. China Star definitely delivered on the taste, and quality of the food. The service was great, and my food came out within 10 minutes. The ambiance is really casual. A nice spot to grab a nice hearty meal quick. It's in the heart of temple terrace and not too far from USF. If you're ever in the area and wanted a bite to eat, I'd recommend China Star. read more

I love this place, very good food and good service. My husband work near by the restaurant, he eat at this place every week. We once forgot our bag in the restaurant at night and came back next day and the gentlemen there hand us the bag when he saw us. Im so happy and impressed of how nice they are. I got the Boneless Spare Ribs dinner combination with pork fried rice and an egg role. I would say regarding the price and portion of the food I really can't complain at all...plate looks visually great just wasn't as flavorful as my go to place and the meat was a little bit tougher. But again for the price can't beat it. I personally will keep going to my old spot for the boneless spare ribs at least but pls do not hesitate to try other things! I'm from NYC so I like my Chinese food a particular way lol read more

Spring rolls were burnt and the Chicken for the sweet and sour chicken was over cooked, dry and inedible. When we notified the restaurant, they told us we could bring it back after we drove home 20 minutes. We just line the garbage can with it and made a note that we would never go back for overpriced and lousy food. read more

We've eaten at China Star before in other cities so when we decided on Chinese food and saw the name we decided to give it a try in hopes that they'd be just as good as the other locations that we've visited in the past! I'm glad we did because the food was delicious. We ordered the shrimp and broccoli which was fresh and flavors. The shrimp fried rice was good. As well as the sweet and sour chicken which was fried to perfection, not too soft and not too hard. I'd recommend this location and will come back in the future for sure! read more

This has become my family's favorite Chinese takeout. My only negative would be that I have to go pick it up, no delivery-- at least to my house. We Love the egg rolls, they are crispy and flavorful( not a mouthful of grease) crab Rangoon and also the fried dumplings are also TOP of our list. Beyond that everything we've tried has been good. Particularly the Lo Mein's, the general tso's the rice noodles and the sweet and sour chicken are the ones my family goes back for time and time again. Great portion size so I get a couple meals out of one order. With a family of 7 that makes a big difference for us. read more

first things first, i just moved to florida from rhode island and if you don't know much about rhode island, we have KILLERRRRRR asian food. just look up "china town rhode island" and you'll see what i mean. so i feel that im well versed in knowing good asian food. my personal favorites are lo mein, egg rolls, wonton soup, and beef and string bean with white rice. so naturally i took to yelp to find a good asian food place near me. for some reason china star only has a 4.3 Yelp rating and I'd give it a full 5 stars. it's ALWAYS jumping no matter the time, and i frequently notice people ordering the chicken wings so im gonna assume they are immaculate. service is quick fast simple and easy, and the food prep time is usually under 15 minutes. i ordered the lo mein and egg rolls... MY FAVORITE, it came to about 15 bucks and its delicious. flavorful and really fresh and crisp veggies. it also appears to be a small business which is always a plus. if you're looking for fire asian food in the university/tampa area, please please please come check china star out they're incredible and you WONT be disappointed read more

Due to recent musculoskeletal issues, I've been resorting to delivery and I had a craving for Chinese food, which is funny since I usually don't care for it. I noticed China Star delivered and had bourbon chicken(for some reason, I don't see that dish that often outside of mall food courts). I got the bourbon Chicken combo which comes with pork fried rice and 1 egg roll for $11 (plus tax/delivery fees). The order was packaged decently and had plastic cutlery, soy and duck sauce. There were no napkins at all. The amount of food was adequate, though I'm sure some places would offer it for less than $10. The bourbon chicken was serviceable, but I actually prefer the taste of the Chinese place inside University Square Mall (Stop laughing). Also, the chicken here had limited sauce compared to that one. I skimmed Yelps' pics and it seems they have all the staple Americanized Chinese dishes like Sesame Chicken, Beef pepper steak etc. I used the doordash app and it took roughly 35 minutes to arrive. China Star is about 3 miles from my place. Overall: A very typical Chinese joint that will do fine. Its not revolutionary, but it gets the job done. read more

Not my usual Chinese takeout place. I did want to give it a try to compare to my usual place. I used Uber Eats for delivery. Friendly driver but he had a hard time finding my location. Another story. I first asked in both orders "no mushrooms". I got mushrooms. I had hoped for spicy. Not so much. I got the house lo mein, white rice, and spicy pork. Overall I like my regular place. If you are hungry for Chinese, China Star won't disappoint. My favorite Chinese restaurant close to USF. Price is good food quality is fresh and servings are just right. I read that this was an authentic Chinese restaurant and came straight over because of that statement. And there was 3 Mexicans cooking which I don't mind, but please never say it's authentic again.. I only order a shrimp roll which was delicious! And an egg drop and wongton soup, but I had better else where..it's not bad at all, just had better. This review is based on the context of a Chinese carry out place, not comparing it to a high-end restaurant! We were in search of a place to eat late at night, but most places were closed by 10pm. Finally found this place, not expecting much. Clean and basic carry out place with a couple of tables. They were quick and the food came out piping hot! Tried the chicken lo mein and beef lo mein, very flavorful and noodles were good, but a bit too soft since I personally prefer a bit more "bounciness" and chew to my noodles, but not expected from a carry out place. The orange chicken had a surprising kick to it, just slightly spicy which was enjoyable even for the kids. Portion size and price were great too! A solid 4.5 for carry out food, but since we asked for some plates and plastic utensils and they had no issues and gave plenty to our van full of 7 hungry people, I'm rounding to a 5 for service! read more

as a native New Yorker, i am always asked my reviews on three things. pizza. chinese food. bagels. and i always compare what i eat here in florida to what I've had in new york because new york will always be better... right? well. China Star is the first chinese food spot where I can confidently say it reminds me of home. i always get the crab rangoons, and i like to switch between shrimp and broccoli and vegetable lo mein. the shocker came when i went back to new york a month ago and had a meal from my favorite chinese spot... and found i liked China Star more! with their crispier crab rangoons and more flavorful fried rice, i was left unsatisfied from the restaurant that was once my favorite spot!! you're officially number 1, China Star! read more

A lackluster experience that left me hungry and yearning for more. I ordered the House Mei Fun and an egg roll, with hopes that at least the Mei Fun would be good. The egg roll was a HARD pass, mushy and bland it offered nothing as a benefit and half of it ended up in the trash due to disinterest- and I LOVE egg rolls so that was a clear sign to me on their quality. This left me worried about what I would find upon opening my Mei Fun. Usually packed with veggies and an assortment of meat, this was a box of mush mostly with egg smeared on items in a somewhat gross manner that is unlike any Mei Fun I've had... anywhere else. Not upset about the egg, but didn't like the way it was worked into the dish. Wasn't very generous on meats or veggies, it took some work to find a piece of pork and a piece of shrimp. It was however heavy on discolored chicken but I ended up putting it in the fridge to see if I can improve it later when reheating on my stove. Giving this restaurant two stars as the food arrived hot, so for delivery I was slightly impressed with that. Will keep searching for the best Americanized Chinese food locally, because this was for sure, not it. read more

The restaurant looked pretty clean in the lobby, no dine in. Asked some random person waiting what was good and he recommended the Singapore Mei Fun extra spicy. It's deliciously. Nicely cooked thin noodles with a good amount of meat, I think it's shrimp chicken and pork. I would def order from here again. Hot and sour soup was pretty loaded as well. Priced pretty decent as well. read more

This is a Temple Terrace gem in Terrace Ridge Publix Shopping Center complex. It's clean. The ordering process is easy If you wish to preorder online. To me, the portions are generous & the food is piping hot, flavorful, & the meat, be it pork, beef, or chicken, is not overcooked, which a lot of Chinese restaurants unfortunately seem to do. Their Wonton soup is better than any I have ever had in NYC or San Francisco. On a lark, I tried their fried chicken wings. They are full chicken wings & in my opinion better than any from any sports bar I have been to in the Tampa area. Their Specials from Bourbon Chicken to Beef & Broccoli always have generous portions of meat & the flavor profiles are fantastic. Also, China Star is one of the few Chinese restaurants I have been to that has CRISPY egg rolls, & not soggy ones. I particularly like the shrimp egg rolls. Note: You can dine there. The tables & seating areas are clean, but it is a small place, & most people order take out from China Star. I think people think that if an Asian restaurant is not in South Tampa, it's inferior to the Chinese restaurants in the high scale restaurant part of town. That's unfortunate, because I have been to Asian restaurants in South Tampa, & in my opinion, China Star is better. read more

The first time we ordered was great. The second time was awful. I got food poisoning from the honey chicken or pork egg rolls. The pork egg roll tasted very off so I ate a bite and threw it away but the chicken was okay. Soggy and the rice was slightly mushy but I dismissed it as it sat a bit during the door dash drive. About 7 hours later I felt immense pain and I tried sleeping it off but ended up going to doctors. Just a fair warning before anyone else eats and gets sick like I did. read more

Food was delivered tightly knotted in a plastic bag way before the expected time of arrival. I always ordered vegetable mei fun which never disappoints. I opened the carton of fried rice and realized quickly it was just white rice with soy sauce nothing fried about it and no other ingredients. Rice and soy sauce. I took two spoonfuls of soup and that was the end of that as well. In totality I spent $37 dollars for 5 bites of sweet and sour chicken. Pictures of their "fried rice" below.
