The lunch special menu
Wallace W.

I came to China Star for the first time in years today, drawn in by a sign advertising Hibachi posted in the lawn in front of the reataurant's parking area. Curious to see what that meant, I entered the restaurant at lunch time and was quickly seated. I found that the hibachi was one of the menu options, featuring a Japanese style cuisine at a higher price point than the traditional American style Chinese food which dominates the menu. I decided to try one of the lunch specials and chose the twice cooked pork along with jasmine tea to drink. The meal started with a bowl of soup for which I chose hot and sour. For me, it wasn't spicy enough and could have used a little more kick. But the flavor was pretty good. Also, it came with some deep fried strips of dough with a sweet red dipping sauce as a starter. Those weren't super tasty, kinda oily and not too appetizing. The main course was served with ham fried rice and as a side, I chose the silver chicken over the egg roll. The twice cooked pork was flavorful and had some nice fresh veggies in it including snow peas, green pepper, onion, mushrooms, carrots and zucchini. Pretty healthy for a quick lunch, especially at the same price one might pay for fast food. Overall I was quite content with my meal and consider it as having been a good value. I guess I'll put China Star back on my list for a place to go for a satisfying lunch in Bountiful.

The service is amazing. The owners are so sweet and kind. I love supporting this local restaurant! They are a great addition to our community! Not to mention The food is delicious and fresh. It is a lot of food! Yummy egg drop soup, the salad with the yum yum sauce! The fried rice was amazing and so were the sautéed veggies. I got the shrimp and it was delicious! Cooked to perfection! I loved watching the chef James cook everything. He puts on a great show and so fun!! We had lots of laughs and loved all the fire! Love this place and of course we will go back!

This places is a hidden gem, I love it, their food is well done prepare and delicious, all the appetizers are incredible, their favor is super good if we compare to other Chinese places I live in Provo but every time I am around this place or even few miles away, I go there to eat Sadly because of COVID, they just have to go order. They still give you a good amount of food, really worth the money you spend here

Sweet and sour pork and beef and broccoli.

Best Chinese I've had in a long long time! The food was all fresh and high quality. The delivery was prompt

This location will be dearly missed and we are hoping for a new location to open soon. The favorite was the walnut shrimp, crispy and in a cozy savory sweet sauce. And I'm really puzzled by the high ratings of this place here on Yelp. I had the sautéed beef, which is listed as "Sa Ti" on the menu, so when it was brought out and announced as "sautéed beef," I was a bit confused. While the vegetables were decent, the beef was tough and from the flavor was a cheap cut. The hoisin sauce was not thick enough and a bit too runny like maybe water added.(?) This also made the flavor weak. After the first disappointing bite of beef, I only picked at the vegetables. I didn't finish it nor did I ask for a take home box. In my opinion, looking over at the people at my table (I was at a club meeting), everything looked on the cheap side. They all seemed to enjoy their meals, though. The portions are huge, so you'll get a lot of mediocre food. The service was OK. We were a large party of about 45. They knew beforehand we were coming. We noticed that even though our table was first to order, we were one of the last to get our food. One person at our table got her food significantly later than we did. There was one table that still didn't have their food when we got our checks. Water refills were never checked and neither was my soda. The Dr. Pepper was good... 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Great spot for some Chinese food…read more I was visiting some friends in Utah and they were really excited to take me to this restaurant. They said it was their favorite in town and that I just had to try it so I was really excited for it. When we arrived, we didn't realize, but it was prom night and so a lot of kids were dressed up in there prom outfits. Because we made a reservation, we were seated quickly. The server was really friendly and very helpful, very knowledgeable of the menu. We decided to do it, Family style and ordered a couple different things to share. We started off with an order of their Dumplings, then ordered cashew nut chicken, beef, and broccoli, and fried rice. The Dumplings were really big and fresh, so that was super good. The flavor was really nice. The cashew chicken was so good! The sauce that they used in the flavors were really good. The beef and broccoli was also yummy. The sauce with the seasonings that they chose, tasted like your traditional beef and broccoli. The fried rice was also very traditional. Definitely something you would expect. Overall, all the food had really great quality and tasted exactly how you would think so. I definitely think if you're looking for Chinese food in Utah, this is a great place to start.

We ordered 4 entrees family style to share at the table. Three dishes came out fairly quickly, but the 4th dish didn't arrive for nearly 30 minutes. Since we were all sharing the meal, we eventually ate the three dishes while waiting, and by the time the final entree arrived, the meal was basically over. When we brought the issue up to the manager, instead of focusing on customer service or finding a reasonable solution, we were met with excuses. She said, "If I take it off the bill, I have to take it off the table." That completely missed the point. We ordered the dish because we wanted it as part of our meal -- we weren't asking for it to be taken away. After making us wait 30 minutes while the rest of the table had already finished eating, the obvious customer service move would have been to acknowledge the inconvenience, comp the dish, and still let us enjoy what we ordered. Instead, Tess focused on explaining "owner policy" rather than taking care of a customer issue. After decades of loyalty to Mandarin, it was genuinely disappointing to experience such inflexible and poor customer service over something that should have been handled far better. By the way Amber our Server was great

If you have never been there ask to see his book of money notes he has collected from folks around the world who have eaten at his place. Right now as of 03.22.2026 there is a bit of construction that is going on, but that is temporary. The pictures that are hanging up all over the walls is great art and they are for sale as well, it gives the to the atmosphere. You will not be disappointed to eat here. 5 of my closet friends and Myself who ate there yesterday (03.21.2026) had never been here ever. We decided on a whim to try it. We read a few of the online reviews and said why not. We were not disappointed at all that we went. The Owner and again the Chef was hopping from table to table chatting with folks about one thing or another. His Introduction is priceless to those who have never been there. ( I will not ruin it for you ). I would make sure to bring a little bit of cash with you as it is not inexpensive I paid for myself and one other in our party and it was 114$ without tip , but it is well worth it the $$$. Please if you are looking for a great steak house then give this place a try. I would post pictures of the food but that never seems to look pretty after you have taken a few bites so sorry folks no pictures from me. There are other who have posted and their pictures are spot on.
