It's been a while since we were last here. Our favorite Chinese place closed down, so we've been in search of a good place and hitting up all the old places. Beef Chow Fun - A-Okay. Noodles were a wee bit too tender. I prefer the noodles to have a little bit of a bite and spring. Not sure if it was overcooked or if it was just because it was a take-out order and sat in a container too long. As a result the noodles were a little bit clumpy. Triple Delight - Hard Pass!!! The first thing that hit me was the taste and smell. It was very off-putting. It was due to the bamboo shoots. IMHO it ruined the taste for the whole dish. I'll have to ask them to leave the bamboo shoots out next time. General Tzo's Chicken - A-Okay. Chicken chunks were a little dry, and fried batter wasn't as crispy as I'd like, bit otherwise okay. My spouse was in a inpatient physical rehab center not far from this location. One day I decided to surprise him and get his favorite to try and lift his spirts. This location is in a great area that is well taken care of and the employees were nice and friendly even while taking my order on the phone. Once you arrive like most Chinese restaurants they are known for their take out so not a lot of tables inside. Parking is a little hard to find as there are not many in front of any of these businesses so I just parked at the Home Depot and walked over (may be 10 steps if you park on the end). We had got the egg foo young, steamed dumpling, crab ragoons, and general tso shrimp. My fiancé said this is one of the best Chinese food restaurants he has ever been to (which says a lot since he has been to many in northern va). He loved the gravy especially for the egg foo young which was full of flavor and i had never seen general tso shrimp before but glad I went out of my comfort zone and got it as the shrimp were huge and the sauce was amazing. This place is good, solid Chinese food at a decent price. Give it a shot. I'm now coming here at least once per week. I've tried several items on menu. All were good. How do y'all only accumulatively give China Wok 2 stars? This place is great and has redeemed itself. I don't know what's changed but I used to love this place. Then after a couple years I noticed the food quality was not great and everything had the same blah flavor. So I switched to Wong Kok. Tonight I decided to go back. The general Tso chicken was hot, flavorful, spicy, and incredible. $2 up-charge for plain lo mein over rice, incredibly worth it. Amazing flavor. Wonton soup was hot and just the best I've had outside of Long Island. The egg rolls have great flavor, nice crisp crunchy shell, and everything tasted super fresh, quick and friendly service. $25 for all that I thought was good value considering what everyone's been up against in this economy. Not sure why all the really low reviews which made me not try the place but I'm glad I did. Got a lunch hunan chicken with fried rice and chicken egg roll for $8.47. I was pleased to find vegetables and a fried rice lake spring onion and onion and also the vegetables in the Hunan chicken were cooked well. I don't know why there are so many one star reviews, but hear me out: At least try this place once. It's nothing like panda express if you are looking for an alternative to that. The food is more authentic than that and it's really good. I've always enjoyed their lo mein and some of their other chinese dishes are really good. My family visited from China and we ordered from them. They loved it! Also, the service there was really good. I believe they've changed from before and now, every time I go, their service is great. I've passed by this place a bunch of times but finally decided to check it out :D The cashier was sweet and since we decided to dine in, she even brought our food over to the table for us. That was kind of her. There really is no server here, this is more of a take out restaurant. However, there are a few tables. Complimentary hot tea is available, which is also very nice! We were very satisfied with our meal and the quality of it. We wanted a quick bites Chinese take out joint, and that's exactly what this was. I had a very nice experience with my recent delivery order. The good: Fresh, hot, (Americanized) chinese food. Ample portions, good amounts of protein with limited amounts of filler. All dishes were very tasty! Also good was that they offer both shrimp and chicken egg rolls. And they offer both chicken and pork dumplings! And the dumplings are reasonably priced! As was the entire meal. I loved that you could customize your order with xtra protein or to remove offensive ingredients (my Mom doesn't eat peppers of any kind). Service was outstanding - they called me to confirm that I really did want xtra chicken in my MooShu chicken. Delivery was fast and courteous. Overall, a very positive experience and very yummy meal! Some of the dishes like the egg foo young are the best I've tried in the area. I've found when ordering Chinese, stick to the popular items and you should be fine. I've seen bad reviews with people ordering chicken wings and things like that. Who orders chicken wings from a Chinese restaurant? That's where you went wrong. This has become my favorite Chinese restaurant in the South Riding area and I'm Chinese so hopefully this review carries a little bit more weight. First off, while many restaurants raised their prices during COVID, this restaurant stayed true and have not raised their prices like the others. They still provide free food when you order over certain amounts. The staff are friendly. I don't like my food too salty and they are always willing to accommodate. My favorite dish is the garlic sauce eggplant. Yes, the restaurant isn't much to look at but who cares. Are you there to eat good food or are you there to look at the decor? I avoided this place for 5 years due to the bad reviews. It's still open, so something didn't seem right. I tried their General Tso lunch special today and I was told 10 minutes for pick up. I got there early and they were still making my food which made me happy. Food was hot and not greasy. Egg roll was crispy and hot. I also got the Mongolian beef, and shrimp fried rice both were cooked perfectly and tasted great, my only complaint was the cut of the beef wasn't my favorite, but was spicy, like it was supposed to be. 9 years have past since I wrote my first review. I've eaten here off and on since then and more recently this year during teleworking. This review is about the lunch specials. My friends and I have tried many of their entrees including Hunan chicken, Hunan beef, pepper steak, and beef w/ garlic sauce. For their lunch specials priced at $6.99, it is a good deal and all have tasted great. Not too salty which is very important to me. Perhaps others in the area would find it not salty enough. The beef w/garlic sauce was a little bit too sweet for me. I've ordered lunch entrees more than dinner, but I would assume the food tastes the same no matter the time of day. However, this past week, we picked up Shrimp Pad Thai (I know it's a thai dish, but thought we would try their version), and sesame chicken. omg! To put it mildly, it was terrible. The noodles on the pad thai, had a pink color, no idea from where, but I suspect from the shrimp. It was also very watery, which made it look yucky, and no peanuts in sight. The sesame chicken was so flavorless, big chunks of chicken, the sauce was very dense. Surprised at all the one star reviews, but also surprised by the five star review. This is Chinese take-out so I go in with the expectation that I am not getting gourmet service or food, but rather a quick meal that is not hard on the wallet. Honestly for me, this was 2 1/2 stars so I rounded up to 3 because 2 was unfairly harsh. We walked in after a quick stop at Home Depot and a discussion about what we were going to do for dinner since we really had nothing at home. We were greeted by the woman behind the counter who asked us if we planned to dine in or take food to go. After we confirmed to go, she handed us menus so we could make our selection. We chose fried dumplings, crispy beef and Kung Pao chicken. The kitchen is directly behind the counter so I could see our food was being freshly prepared and to be honest I enjoyed watching the cook make our meal in the huge wok especially the huge flames that seemed to engulf it. Entertainment plus food to go - bonus. It didn't take long until everything was bagged and ready. The food was decent for what it was - Americanized Chinese takeout. The dumplings were not super doughy as I've had in other places and had actually had a decent flavor. I enjoyed the crispy beef a bit more than the chicken. Kung Pao chicken is (and was advertised as) a spicy dish, but the spice is where this dish really fell short. The chicken also seemed to have a breading of sorts which I did not really care for. However, we did not experience the grease that other reviewers mentioned. The vegetables in our dishes were cooked well (still a bit crispy, not mush) and fresh. With the dumplings and two dishes, there was way more food than we could possibly eat. We both had leftovers the next day and still didn't finish all. I will confirm the beef heated up much better than the chicken. I would not order Kung Pao chicken here again, but if we were in the area and needed a quick meal, I would give China Wok another chance. read more
