I'm honestly not sure where to start - this used to be one of my favorite Chinese restaurants many years ago. Things have certainly changed. I'm not completely sure, but it appears as though the owners from many, many years ago are still running the restaurant - and unfortunately it really shows. The restaurant looks very worn down and the owners look very tired. It's clear that there has not been any reinvestment in the restaurant. Rather depressing looking on the inside - torn chair coverings, stained carpet, faded signs etc. I ordered a lunch special- kung Pao chicken. No one else was ordering, I was the only one in the restaurant. It's carry-out only. The food arrived quickly, and it was a very fair portion for the money. But to me, it was not great. I order this dish all the time, and I'm certainly used to a variation across restaurants, but I wouldn't say the flavor was great. So look at the pictures and decide for yourself. I went in about 6:30 pm or so. Was seated at a table, then quickly looked over the menu - even though I knew I was going to order the fried egg rolls, Hot and Sour soup, and the Kung Pao Chicken. Like Jesse - I love these dishes and always order them when visiting a new Chinese place for the first time. After ordering, I went to use the restroom. As I was washing my hands, someone was in the one of the stalls doing their business. They emerged just as I was walking out of the restroom - they walked out right in front of me - without washing their hands - then proceeded to head into the kitchen of the restaurant. I was dismayed and grossed out. I went and sat down for a moment - then jumped up and went to the front counter and explained to the lady behind the counter what I had just witnessed - and I stated it was gross and unacceptable. I went and sat back down again - just as my server was bringing my soup out. She asked me what was wrong. I related the event to her as well - then told her I did not want to eat their food. I got up and left. Too bad - beware before you eat here - you might inquire about staff sanitation procedures. The place was deserted when I walked in at 12:06 PM on a Wednesday. The opposite of a lunch rush - it was quiet as a tomb. No one else except me was in the place, in terms of customers. I ordered General Tso's, with extra broccoli and extra sauce. It took forever to come out of the kitchen, and, they brought over a squeeze bottle of yellow mustard with the order. That was mystifying. (shrug) The chicken pieces were too heavily breaded, and the sauce, while it had some heat, didn't have enough. It was also very thick (gelatinous, really), very salty, and a bit sweet. Extra broccoli? HAH! I received 5 small florets. I looked at the bill, and, yes, they did charge me for extra broccoli, and when I enquired as to whether 5 florets constituted "extra", I was assured that it was definitely more than the regular allotment of broccoli. I am skeptical on that. I think someone in the kitchen just missed seeing it on the ticket. Anyway, a disappointment. read more

This place used to offer amazing Chinese food. Over the years it has seriously declined. We went into the restaurant tonight and placed a to-go order. Among the items was a large egg drop soup. Upon opening it, there is a dead bug floating around in it. If you scroll through their reviews, this is not the 1st time this has happened to someone. A very dangerous food mistake was made. I ordered via Door Dash and my food came. I gave specific instructions about a dish because I am allergic to peanuts. Guess what happened? Yep, So I immediately contact Door Dash and can't reach anyone. I call this restaurant and whoever I spoke to blamed Door Dash for not giving them the proper instructions on the dish. When I explained what happened I offered to bring the food back in exchange for the right order but the lady just kept saying "I'm not a liar". Keep in mind, I'm super hungry with $50 worth of food I can't eat. Word of warning to people with food allergies. I will probably never find out who was actually at fault here but do not Trust Door Dash even though they have a section for specifics of food prep. The people at The Chinese Imperial added to this bad experience by agreeing to exchange the wrong dish (which I did not eat) for the right one. I will avoid both in the future. read more

Two thumbs down for the taste of the food. Two thumbs down for the decor - this place is a hole in the wall with bad food. $9.95 per adult for lunch buffet. What?!? Way over-priced for what I ate. One of the elite Yelper noted that he witnessed one of the restaurant kitchen staff returning to the kitchen without washing his hands from the restroom. I wish I had read his review before walking into this place. I don't understand how the other reviewers gave 4-stars for this restaurant! Perhaps families and friends of the restaurant owner... This can't be a review on the food as, since I'm in California, I've never eaten there. But this IS a review on customer service. Last night a truck driving friend was stuck a couple of blocks away from this restaurant, waiting on a load so he could not go get dinner. He called, gave them the address, said he was paying with a credit card and that he would meet the delivery driver on the steps of the building. The lady on the phone asked if he was a truck driver and, when he said "yes", she said "Sir, we do not support truckers" and hung up on him!!! HOW does she think she gets her food and supplies?? So...support a trucker who brought you your computer or phone and AVOID this place!! Sounds as if the place needs to be avoided anyway! read more

Well this place proves there are no good Chinese Food Delivery restaurants in Manassas. I found the website on Yelp, and was pretty impressed that the restaurant offered "online ordering", or so I thought. I noticed in the upper right corner that the restaurant was "offline". I thought it might have been just a connection issue. Nope! When I asked the woman about the website, she told me "Oh, we only use that to put our menu up. We don't have online ordering." Being the nerd that I am, I clicked on the link at the bottom of their website and found that this reservation system they have is $899 +, and it tracks orders, customers, favorites, gives revenue detail etc. Why on God's green acres would anyone in this economy dump that kind of $ into a business tool and not use it to its full potential? They should have saved the cash, and used that instead to improve food quality!! Online menu offered little if any descriptions, hardly enticing to anyone who is hungry. Broccoli and Asparagus is on the menu, however when we called it was not available. Asparagus 1st harvest is in early May, & it's already in grocery stores! We ordered Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon, Beef & Broccoli & Beef and Garlic Sauce. Food arrived 40 min later, as she said. Egg Rolls & Rangoon's were prepared in these wonton skins that were not fresh and were fried to death. Crab was out of a can. The Rangoon's consisted of 90% cream cheese and little else. The taste of oil was overwhelming. The beef in both dishes was tender but it was nothing special. The rice was completely under salted. Beef and Broccoli looked like it was literally scooped into the container because it came out as one big mound, all stuck together. This is one of those places that you order from, stick it in the fridge then go out drinking. The only way it will taste any good is at 2am when you stagger home and think to yourself "Man, I need some food." This is the first place I stopped after my 4 hour drive. I was super hungry and wanted to grab some takeout and get to my hotel. The staff was really nice and food was cooked quickly. The spring rolls seemed to have too much lemon flavor. Shrimp and broccoli was just ok. Did receive a lot of shrimp though. Wish there was a little more flavor. This is the worst Chinese food I have ever had!!! The Hot and Sour Soup was at least two days old and it was sweet without the slightest hint of sour or white pepper. The KungPao chicken was also very sweet and very oily without a hint of hoisin sauce or red pepper. It was disgusting! The two hot & sour soups and the Kungpao chicken was over $20 with out the tip. This place is really rip off now I know why it was empty when I got there around dinner time. This is a mixed feeling, since their food taste good, but even so it tastes good, I can not let go the fact that the place is not clean nor hygienic! You can see many photos that shows bugs, larva, and others before mine, and on my experience i can bow that I seen mold all over the ceiling and i have encounter food that taste like it is about to go bad. read more

After reading some of the Yelp reviews for this place you might be confused, so I'm writing this to help clarify the Chinese Imperial situation. I live a block away from the restaurant and frequent it a lot for decent chinese take out, the best I've found in the local manassas area (and as we locals all know....the bar is not set very high). There are two separate faces of this establishment: The 9.95 lunch buffet, and the made to your own order menu dishes. Always, ALWAYS, go for the "made to your order" menu food. The lunch buffet is an extremely poor reflection of the ability of the kitchen...the kung pao on the buffet is a very different creature than the kung pao you get off of the menu. It is more than evident that the owners are trying to cut corners and be cheap on the lunch buffet, and they don't get enough turn over to keep the food super fresh on the buffet, so you tend to get stale rice and crunchy lo mein depending on the time of day. If you do hit the buffet, hit it right at the opening of it. The other sad thing is the decor and the building is aging tremendously. I don't tend to eat in because its just not nice looking. But, take out is great....close, and decent tasting. I wish they would revamp the place. My favs from here food wise are the kung pao, lo mein, dumplings, hot and sour soup, imperial tasty, orange flavored beef, and house special fried rice. read more

So far one of the better places I have gotten Chinese food in Manassas. The shrimp fried rice was a little greasy but tasted very good and they were not cheap with the shrimp. The chicken and broccoli was ok but only because I know what Chinese food in New York tastes like. The crab rangoon was good but I like mine to taste more like cream cheese. When I ordered the chicken wings I was hesitant as it was $3.50 for 4 and normally all take outs is 6 but they were big wings. All in all the food was good to me. I would definitely order from here again. The lady who took my order was also very nice unlike another place I called before ordering from here who gave me attitude for no reason. They told me it would take 30 mins and they were here in 20 and the food was hot and freshly made. Chinese Imperial is the best in Manassas, Virginia. My family and I have been getting Chinese Food from Chinese Imperial for over 20 years when we have friends in town and to celebrate special occasions. Each time, the food has been delivered HOT and Fresh. We have NEVER had a problem with an order. I do not know what dining in is like we have always ordered delivery. Aside from that, I always recommend Chinese Imperial to anyone looking for a great Chinese restaurant. On my way home from a Drs appointment I decided I need to eat something, so I drove around and found this little strip. Since it was a nice day, I had the windows down and I go a whiff something, a smell so strong you couldn't mistake it. It was the smell of Pho.Well as I looked around I found it. But it also happen to near this little Chinese restaurant. It was a tough choice, pho or Kung Pao and Hot and Sour Soup. Hmmm. Well I decided on the Chinese. It was still early so the place was pretty dead inside. The décor is just like a typical Chinese joint. Lots of red, big fans on the wall, Asian paintings, and chairs with plastic on the cushions. The front of the place had little display with little trinkets for sale, little jade things and so on. Well I was greeted at the door and taken to a table. While I was looking over the menu I was brought some water. Of course, I had to order the Kung Pao Chicken and Hot and Sour soup. I also noticed that they had the spicy, sweet and sour cabbage. I haven't had that in a while so I got that as well. The cabbage actually came out first. It was actually pretty good, a little spicy and plenty sweet and sour. I accidentally dripped some of the red juice down the front of my white dress shirt. I'm like crap, this is going to stain. Well I was dipping my napkin in the water and tried to clean it the best I could. Well the waitress saw what I was doing and brought me a wet towel to help me clean it off. I thought that was very nice of her. The service was great and they came by to check on me a lot. The soup came out. It has a nice dark rich color and had plenty of the normal goodies inside. It had a great smell and it was not gelatinous. I took a sip and I was like DAMN, this is good. This blows away any place near my house. It was flavorful and very spicy. In fact this was spicier than the Kung Pao and the spicy cabbage. I must have sweat through like 4 napkins. I'm a wuss now, I can't handle the hot stuff in my old age =) Now the description for the kung pao said, diced chicken cooked with peanuts in a rich brown sauce. So far so good, no veggies added veggies. Well the dish came out, it was cooked as described with chicken, peanuts, and scallion, in a dark brown sauce. There was a lot of sauce inside. I was afraid this was going to be overly sweet because of too much plum or hoisen sauce. I took bit and it wasn't overly sweet, in fact it wasn't too sweet at all. It was missing something, it didn't seem to have that kung pao taste, but it was still good. I still enjoyed to dish. The only complaint about the kung pao, it was a little on the greasy side. Looking at the sauce you could see there was a lot of oil used. If I'm in the Manassas I'd come back here again just for the soup. The staff is very nice and well worth it if you like Hot and Sour soup. read more

This is the one of the best chinese resturants I have ever been to. The food was hot,fresh and sublimely good. The service was excellent and very friendly. I started with the egg rolls and they were melt in your mouith good. The general tsaos chicken was a good size portion and had a wonderful spicy flavor. My family has ordered take out from here several times. The food has always been quickly prepared and is still hot when we get home. My wife and daughter get the beef and broccoli with fried rice and the brown sauce is thin and tasty. I usually get crispy beef with fried rice and also find the sauce is thinner than most other places and is not sickening sweet . We also like both varieties of their spring rolls.
