So I ordered the garlic beef and I ask her was it spicy to which she replied yes it was and since I like spicy I ordered it.. took it home that had to be the most nasty order I ever got from there first it was not even close to being spicy, second there is no way there was even any garlic on it.. so I had two spoonful and put it in the refrigerator.. was gonna take it back but I didn't wanna waiste my time .. I went back one night last week. This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant! The ribs were good. The hot & sour soup was great - on the mild side with a generous amount of tofu and homemade crunchy noodles on the side. My favorite Chinese dish is moo shu pork, and it's often disappointing. But, Szechuan Gourmet's moo shu pork is excellent! There's actually some sauce. And there's a generously sized side of hoisin included. This place has a family/neighborhood feel you rarely get at carry-out places. read more

Wonton soup was awful and then some. After tasting the broth, something was off. It had a chemical-like aftertaste. I struggled whether I was going to try the wonton but went ahead anyway. Big mistake! The texture of the "meat" was uncharacteristic of meat and the taste was quite unappetizing which I spit out rather quickly. No way am I ordering here again. Gourmet? I don't think so. The wonton soup I got was tasteless and boring, and the crispy noodles were yellow and slimy. I don't know how I managed to finish it all. The egg roll looked fat and disgusting. I ordered a combination lo mein with pork, shrimp, beef, and chicken. Um, where was the meat? Apparently nowhere, unless you want to count one nice sized piece of beef and chicken and little pieces of shrimp foraged somewhere in the tupperware. The noodles were extremely greasy and and had a terrible after taste. And to top it all off, it was an expensive order ($12 for 3 items? I could get that for $10). Okay, the price maybe wasn't that bad. But my stomach said NO and it ran right through me. They were kind enough to leave a menu, but the survey says, I won't be ordering from them again. read more

Woof! This place has REALLY gone down hill over the last year. It used to be pretty good, and now it's just awful. The chicken is super crappy (stringy and tough like gum), the General tso seasoning is just awful now, and even the rice is bland. Total disappointment!!!! I had a coupon for this place. I thought it was a restaurant but it is strictly a carry-out or delivery place. My wife and I both got the hot and sour soup and I got the orange beef and she got a chicken dish. I used to work on a mainframe computer which supported IBM's Time Sharing Option or TSO and so it was nice to see General Time Sharing Option on the menu!! The food was very good. The only place I ever got better hot and sour soup was The House of Dynasty. My orange beef was very nice. I think it too was the second best I ever ate. Ordered delivery from 1.4 miles away and it took exactly an hour. We ordered the Weight Watchers Chicken and Broccoli, Orange Chicken, and Vegetable Chow Mein. The orange chicken was great, no complaints there. The chicken and broccoli felt slimy, but it was edible, but not very good. The Vegetable Chow Mein was a disgrace. There was no noodles and the manager tried to convince me that chow mein did not contain noodles, although the meat options contain noodles. The customer service was terrible, the manager hung up the phone on us and refused to send us the correct order or refund the entree. We were told that WE were in the wrong, which is also absolutely deplorable for someone to say to first time guests. Definitely will never order from this company again. read more

This is one of the better chinese restaurants in Manassas.I order from them a few times a month, and always get what I order. It seems that businesses like these thrive from reproducing the same homogeneous but ambiguous recipes. These folks do it better a little less greasy, not as overly overly salty. Their service is good. The delivery driver can speak to the vernacular. Their prices are slightly more than the competition, but the quality and quantity justifies as much. read more

Let me first start by saying the is a family owned business and it shows! I am from massachusetts and they have the best chinese food in the nation, but this place comes close. Do not order the spare ribs im pretty sure they are just chicken ball and socket joints painted red, but everything else is off the chain, especially the beef on a stick. You gotta try the sesame chicken, i dont even share it with my lover and she snaps and throws the food out the window because her temper is crappy but we reorder and i send her to get it and she comes back with it again. Worst restaurant experience ever. We got delivery and they sent me a gross soggy bowl of cabbage and broccoli (I ordered vegetable chow mein) I called to tell them I got the wrong item and the lady was extremely rude to me on the phone, she told me repeatedly that it was my fault and not her fault. She told me that chow mein doesn't have noodles over and over again even though it definitely does. She claimed that she was the manager. She was extremely rude and unhelpful. Tried this place randomly today with my boyfriend. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, and he got the Szechuan chicken. My food was very bland, and a bit boring. There were also cherries in the sweet and sour sauce which I found very odd. Not a huge fan, but it was edible. My boyfriends food wasn't too bad, he and I both agreed it was fairly decent. Based on other reviews I decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. I'm also very picky about my chinese food and often fine what other's consider "good" is below average to me. Szechuan Gourmet was very good! The general tso's chicken was the best we've had anywhere and I'm not a huge fan of general tso's chicken in general. It was spicy and flavorable without being overly sweet. The fried rice was good and the pan fried noodles were about average. The servings were HUGE... just as others have commented. We got the Duck and it was the worse in life! It was like chewing rubber. I'm sure they gave us a 10-days old duck that was reheated more than a couple of times. I could not believe they gave that to us as paying customers. We called to complain - they asked us to take the duck back & they'll refund us--- so we did. That was inconvenient & we almost got sick! I am kind of obsessed with Chinese take out. I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert, in all fairness; I could eat Chinese every night of the week and probably never get sick of it. Let me start by agreeing with the other reviews, if you are looking for inexpensive takeout, this isn't the place for you... there is no $5.99 dinner special here, however, every penny is well spent. I adore the kung pao chicken and shrimp combination. Chicken, shrimp, onion, peanuts, sauce... bam! Flavor explosion without it tasting like a salt lick. Also, the portion size is insane. I can eat at least two, sometimes three meals. The Crab Rangoon is to die for. It doesn't have an overly sweet filling and it is never greasy. I'm also a fan of the chicken and corn chowder, this paired with an eggroll is fantastic when you are feeling pretty blah. As long as you order delivery you will spare yourself the downside of this place, I made the mistake of stopping in one night to pick something up and was a little sketched out by the building. It's a counter, a few office chairs, a 1980's commercial drink cooler, and an itty bitty fish tank with about 600 little fish babies swimming around. The food was overpriced for what we got. $6-7 for each small meal. The quality was bad. Duh. I get that it's a fast food takeout place. But in my defense the meat (the pork and beef in two desperate dishes) was dry, flavorless, and tasted old. The dishes themselves were drowning in an unflattering sauce. They only redeeming quality was the general Tso's chicken. That was pretty good. Other than that, I'd say no to ordering from here again. Not worth those small few bucks. This review is only on their pan fried dumplings. Delicious! The best I have had so far in the Manassas/Woodbridge/Fairfax area. Also, it really depends on who is making them when you order because there have been a few times where they were burnt and a little greasy. My family has always order from this restaurant for years. Not the best but not the worst. One thing that upsets me the most is having to ask for hot sauce. I feel like that's something that should be a part of when packing it with the soy sauce, just my opinion. If you don't ask for it, you won't get it. I specifically asked for it, repeatedly said it " please soy sauce and hot sauce " . My food came fast and efficiently but no hot sauce. I was upset!! the hot sauce really adds flavor to the food. I called and told them they forgot my hot sauce and if they could please deliver it. I don't think I was being petty , I asked for it over the phone and they forgot. It's like McDonald forgetting your sweet sour , now your nuggets won't taste the same. So yeah. If you guys could not forget my hot sauce, I will give you more stars. read more

This is not a review of their food. Unfortunately I did not get to taste their food. I ordered for delivery through the BeyondMenu app and they cancelled my order because I live too far away. When 2.83 miles is too far away you deserve to go out of business. How about update your listing in the app that you have some sort of distance limit? Unless it was just arbitrary because you don't want to deliver a $45 order placed at 9PM because you close at 10PM on a Friday. Most Chinese restaurants the cutoff for distance is 3 miles so really go choke on wontons you bums. read more

Was looking for Chinese takeout in Manassas and was hopeful because of the Yelp four star reviews. We had egg rolls, pan fried dumplings, and spicy kung pao beef. While all the food was good, it did not blow us away. Everything tasted good and everything was cooked properly. While we would not hesitate to eat here again if in the area, it is not necessarily a place we would drive to as a dining destination. We ordered our meals "hot," but when we got there, the owner told us that he had prepared it "medium-hot" because hot would be devastating to us. Having never eaten their food before, we figured it was wise to take his word for it. Got home, only to discover that "medium-hot" has NO heat to it at ALL. It wasn't even a little spicy. In fact, it was positively bland. We actually had leftovers that we didn't eat--they sat in the fridge for days, but they just weren't good enough to merit reheating. I do have to say that the egg drop soup was better than at most places, and the cheese-fried crab wonton was markedly better than a lot of places. But the lo mien was just average (more meat than many places, but a lot less greenery and not very flavorful), the General Tso's was dryish/chewy and, as previously mentioned, decidedly unspicy. The Sha Cha Beef and beef with black bean were both completely bland, not even a little burn to them. In all, a really expensive disappointment. I can't say whether or not it would have been good had our order come as we asked, and we won't be going back to find out. I guess if you're looking for Chinese food bland enough for Grandma (or your young kids), this would fit the bill. Better than La Choy, but closer to cafeteria buffet than anything else. read more
