Ended up here because our regular place was closed. Ordered "steamed chicken with no sauce." Received chicken that had been coated in cornstarch (which browns nicely when fried) then steamed, which creates a glue. It was disgusting. Put everything in a colander and literally scrubbed the chicken between my hands to remove said glue, with varying levels of success. Husband ordered chicken with cashews, and he was remiss to find a piece that wasn't grisly. With the sheer volume of places trying to get business, one would think small places like this would make sure their food was good. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

I have ordered from China Wok dozens of times! The food is always consistent. Tonight I ordered the General Tso combination, mixed vegetables, and beef lomein for a pickup order. I never have any complaints about the customer service. Inside the establishment is tidy and clean so that's a bonus!

    Shrimp Mei Fun

Recently visited while I had time to kill before a haircut. Been by so many times and never tried it. The staff was super friendly. We ordered shrimp mei fun, wonton soup, and a sesame chicken lunch special. There was so much food. The mei fun was delicious. Lots of flavorful bits like carrots, cabbage, and onions. The shrimps were perfectly cooked. The soup was good. Didn't care too much for the filling in the won ton. But the star of the day was the sesame chicken. This was the best version I've ever tasted. Almost like a sour and sour sauce with toasted sesame seeds. The fry on the batted chicken was pillowy yet crisp. I 100% will be back and highly recommend to all.

Amazing sesame chicken that leaves your mouth tingling with spices and standard sweet and sour chicken. Ready quickly and hot!

When they rang me up I thought it was pricey for some "average" Chinese takeout , but now this is my NEW and ONLY spot I'm going to go to! We fed our family of 5 with the sesame chicken, veggie lo mein, egg rolls and spring rolls, PLEASE try this placewhoever was cooking last night must've been upset about something cause they put their WHOLE FOOT in this food but on a serious note I'm impressed and I NEVER leave reviews but if someone asks about Chinese food recommendations-I'll show em y'all's way

The cashier was a little gruff, but the woman running back and forth between the kitchen and the front had a better business sense about keeping customers happy. She didn't want me to wait long, so I think she rushed the kitchen a little bit, which I appreciated, but also may have led to some of the demerits on the food I mention below. I was happy to see one dish I ordered, the pig intestine with fish, on their picture board above the cash registers. That gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing and it was the best dish by far out of the three I ordered. The intestine was fresh and flavorful, the spice level was high, but also not too salty. It was a lot of food. Only drawback here was the fish (tilapia?) seemed to be heavy on the breading. The other two dishes were disappointing. Penang curry with pork had good vegetables, but the sauce had too little flavor since they went too heavy on the coconut milk. The pork seemed like chicken, not pork. Way too soft and flavorless. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun had good noodles and veggies. But the curry powder was not blended in. Eating it, I could still feel it in powder form. It was also far too oily. Overall, I think they had a lot of options but next time I'd steer more towards classic Chinese, since that seems to be what they do well. I hope next time the flavors will be stronger and blended better (i.e. powders actually stirred in). I'm willing to give them another chance, since they do have a lot of dishes I like. Last note: the online ordering service does not indicate that dishes come with rice. I thought they would have rice by default, but then when I added the penang curry to my cart, it asked whether I wanted rice or noodles or something else. So that made me think I had to order rice separately, which meant I had twice as much rice as I needed. It also said "quart of white rice" was sold out, but "pint of white rice" was not, yet the rice that came with my meal came in a quart container.

Before I forget, there was a posted sign: "Cash is 5% discount". I saw other tables received steamer baskets full of dumplings: Bao, shiu mai, and xiao long bao, which was a very attractive presentation. There are no condiments on the table, but the waitress will bring whatever you ask for. I ordered the spiciest thing on the menu: Dan Dan noodles. I'm on a quest for something to make me feel the burn. This wasn't it either. If I had to guess the ingredients, I'd say a cup of fried ground pork over a quart of mushy noodles, water for broth, and a sprinkling of chopped cilantro floating in a quarter teaspoon chili oil. At the very bottom of the bowl there was a slight taste of mala chili peppers. At $14 it was filling, nourishing, but I'd probably try the soup dumplings next time.

I was seated and immediately served complimentary tea, and fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the Kung Pao lunch special which comes with a choice of egg roll or soup, and white or vegetable friend rice. I chose the wonton soup and fried rice, and I ordered an egg roll as well. The egg roll came out quickly, and the lunch special was served right when I finished that. The food was good and the dish was spicy (Kung Pao is supposed to be spicy but it never is-- not for me) and the service was polite. When the check came it was accompanied by a plate with two slices of orange and a fortune cookie. The only thing I didn't like about the visit was that there was an advertisement for a big commercial law firm on the back of the fortune slip and the "lucky number" was the phone number. I thought that was tacky. I walked out at 1:15pm. Great, quick lunch.

Nice people, good food, pleasant atmosphere: because I can never decide which is more important,…read morethey are equally important factors when rating a restaurant. Golden Hill has all three. And a lunch menu. Wow! I just gave my receipt another look and the people are nicer than I thought. I thought they were pleasant, friendly, happy we were there, concerned that we would enjoy our visit. The lunch menu offerings were each $10.95 and included eggroll OR soup, and white or vegetable fried rice. Daughter ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus an appetizer order of steamed dumplings. I ordered Eggplant with Pork in Garlic sauce with eggroll and white rice, plus a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. The soup on the appetizer menu was $3.95. My receipt shows the server put the soup as my lunch choice and charged $2.95 for the eggroll. She never said a word, didn't point out that I could save a dollar by switching the sides around. So the people are all I thought plus kind and conscientious. Marvelous. I was delighted with everything I ate. The entree was enough for two, so supper came home with me. The eggroll was fresh and crisp and non-greasy, seemed homemade. Excellent. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and cooked, as was the pork. Delicious. The hot and sour soup was easily one of the best I've had, and I'm always looking for a great hot and sour soup. Coming from downtown Buffalo, we'd been in Williamsville because I had an appointment on Essjay Rd. Afterward, we looked for a place to have lunch before shopping. Finding Golden Hill at 4001 Sheridan Dr. in Amherst was pure serendipity. You can bet, though, that I will visit again after next appointment.
