We ordered the following five dishes: #47 - Pea sprouts #44 - Beef & vermicelli soup #81 - Beef noodle soup #93 - Cold starch noodle salad Pork and chive dumpling We enjoyed all of them, though I particularly liked #93, the cold starch noodle salad. For you NYCers, it reminded me of N1 from Xi'an Foods. Thick hand-cut noodles that have that sesame beancurd taste, yummm... The pea sprouts were well cooked, and the pork and chive dumplings were tasty. The beef & vermicelli soup and the beef noodle soup had a similar broth. Both were still good. The dumplings are handmade and the noodles are handmade. And the dumpling noodle soup was a way to try both and it was goooooood. The dumplings have thick skin which I love and are a pretty good size with plenty of meat. The noodles are also yummy and the perfect chewy texture. Very QQ. Even the broth of this noodle soup is good! It wasn't that salty or oily! I generally don't drink the soup in noodle soups but this one I liked! The food was really good. The service was fine. I've always heard about "hand pulled noodles" but could never find a place in San Francisco that had them. Was lucky to find so many here in Sydney, and couldn't wait to try. The Chinatown Noodle King was near our hotel which made it even convenient. From the outside, it looked like your typical Chinese "hole in the wall" that are sometimes a sign of hidden gems. This turned out to be true. We ordered dishes with noodles to test our theory. Chinatown Noodle King didn't disappoint. The noodles were firm and chewy and our dumplings were too. I was in heaven.My wife got the tomato and egg on noodle dish - a dry noodle dish (not soup) which she said was good too. I went to Chinatown noodle king for my friends 21st birthday and they basically ruined the entire night. We ordered dishes on a paper and they claimed we did not order the dishes on the paper, and then after we asked if we could just get the check and go we waited for another half an hour. After they realized we had ordered and they had not made it and it had been 45 minutes, they offered a 5% discount of about $2.50 which did not feel like enough. The male waiter with glasses was very very nice and he was really helpful in getting us the manager. He was the only bright spot during a dark night. read more

This place closes fairly late so we came here for some late night eats. We got half order of the potstickers, beef noodle soup and the wonton soup. The only thing that was good was the beef noodle soup. The noodles were thick and chewy and the broth was flavorful. It also came with a few pieces of bokchoy and some bean sprouts which I find weird to include for this dish. The filling for the won ton and the potstickers were pretty much the same. The meat inside didn't look appetizing and the skin was way too thick. I would not come back. Look for other late night places to eat. read more

Much to my waistline's horror, there is nothing I like more than good hand made noodles. Therefore I had to give Chinatown Noodle King a try while walking around Darling Harbour and Chinatown. I came in late around 8:15 pm on a Monday night and was hoping to get back to the harbour for 9 pm holiday fireworks. Success! They have the little service buttons on the tables so you can call over the server to order or bring you the check right away. I was in and out in half an hour. I got the fried hand made noodles with beef. The dish was flavorful and most importantly, the noodles were delicious. They were hand pulled and thus perfectly imperfect. They were easy to slurp down and also had good chew. I left full and happy! read more

Exploring Sydney's Chinatown was a must-do for us visitors from New York. Craving for noodles, we found this little gem through Yelp. We arrived before the weekday lunch rush hour started swarming in, so around 11:30am. Uniquely when you enter, you can see them make the fresh hand made noodles. Bottom line, hit the spot as our expectations were met including that of our kids. Our kids are too young to have a hearty appetite, so my wife and I indulged a little more than we should have, but no regrets there. Overall, service was friendly, loved the food which was all tasty and came out quickly and the interior was nothing fancy, but certainly presentable. There was an additional fee for using a foreign credit card, but it was nominal. If only we had time to return and try their other dishes because we would. read more

The food was very authentic! We ordered the hot and sour soup, hand made noodles in seafood and beef, sizzling tofu, fried rice, eggplant dish, and braised pork bellly. I was all delicious! The staff was all very nice and accomodating! It was a little hard to communicate with them at first but we managed. I would definitely go back there again! I have an appointment with a Psychologist, no nothing like that, and I get there early. Too early, I got the meeting time mixed up and now have a whole unplanned hour to spend. I decide to get some lunch. As I'm in Chinatown I figure it's appropriate to eat Chinese food. I wander into a restaurant called Chinese Noodle King, namely for its proximity. "Table for one." I say and am directed to a small table near the front, opposite the kitchen. I know it's a kitchen because the wall is made of perspex and thusly I can see the cooks move about the hot stoves, tossing the wok and cutting the vegetables. Browsing through the menu I am confused by the pricing system. It seems quite cheap, or at the very least, normally priced at first as I open on a page which displays a $9 noodle dish. Then as I continue through the sumptuous menu, I find myself amazed at the cost of the meat dishes, from $16 to $24 in price. Then I get to $10 vegetable dishes and really cheap dim sums. So it's hard to say whether this is an expensive restaurant or a varying one. I order the Combination Noodle Soup with some hesitations. It arrives after a bit of a wait and tastes a little bland. With no chilli on the table and myself unbothered to ask, I put up with the soup and continue the slurping and the chewing. read more

Value, value, value-- you're definitely getting it here. You can get a whopping SIXTEEN dumplings for just $10. If you can beat that sort of deal in Sydney please let me know! I went with friends and we had the vegetarian and the pork dumplings-- the pork dumplings don't come marinated in any sort of sauce, which we actually found to be quite nice. That way you can dip the dumplings in whatever sort of soy sauce/chili concoction that you want. The vegetarian dumplings came in a somewhat spicy sauce and were delicious as well. We also opted for the garlic bok choy and some stir fried pork vermicelli pancakes and both were delicious. Thank goodness I was with friends because I loved the sauce the pork vermicelli was in so much I was practically licking the plate clean. The entire bill (the food plus a beer) came to just under $50 and there was enough food left over for two meals! Again, if there's a better value out there for food that's actually tasty I'd be shocked! read more

I've been here about a hundred times now! My friend showed me the place and now I take everyone I know there too. The food is always amazing and the service is quick and friendly too! Now that they have buzzers on the table we don't have to wait for a waiter to walk by. It's quite cheap compared to the other Asian restuarants I've been too, and they have really big portions, so I'm always taking the left overs home. This unassuming, shanghai-style restaurant is just a bit north of Chinatown and recently getting quite full on a Friday or Saturday night with a varied crowd. There are two levels of seating, with the upstairs level containing small booths that are suitable for smallish groups of about 4-6 people. They also have a vast collection of chinese magazines and anime on one of the walls... weird for a restaurant. It is however, leaps and bounds better comfort and decor-wise than the other shanghai restaurants in Ashfield. Ignore the name, dumplings are their forte here although they do have a quite a varied menu with hand made noodles, stir-fried vegetables and meats, shallot pancakes and other dishes that cater for the adventurous...such as cold Beef Tripe skewers with cucumber and sesame sauce. Dumplings here are decent but they don't match the quality of the growingly ubiquitous Din Tai Fung. Ditto for most of their other dishes. What makes up for it is the price... for a group of 6 people, everyone can be fed for just over $10 each which is definitely cheaper than Din Tai Fung and you don't even have to wait. Staff are generally quite rushed and busy as per a typical Chinese restaurant but aren't rude. Just don't ask anyone about what's going on next door. read more

Alright so this veggie heads Noodle King. Ready to slurp all the hot the spicy food on a cold chilly noon. As a big group we went to order a lot of stuff...that's the best part of going in a big group afterall! So as they arrived on the table..Spicy Eggplant and Beans Stir(Veg)- Yummy and as expected..nothing very memorable though. Then we ordered the Vegetable Fried Dumplings (Vegetables with egg) - really alright,..it was pan fried crispy...and then finished with the hot chilli paste.hubby liked the take away that I took home..i din't care much. So reviews overheard from my fab set colleagues..Chinese Beef Burger, interesting aye! apparently it tasted Mexican..yummy nevertheless. Star of the day was Panfried Pancakes! I tried their beef stew noodle soup. The noodle was chewy and great. However, their dumplings in spicy sauce and the braised pork were marinated in the special 'CHINESE' sauce. Unless you are used to chinese hebal taste, then stay away. read more
