Let me start out by saying, typically I am not a buffet person, but I was shopping next door and thought I'd give them a try. Once again, this is a review where I need and want a half star. For a buffet, it really wasn't that bad. The buffet area was kept clean and filled on a regular schedule as I dined. My food was all at a warm temperature and I didn't have to push anything aside for being cold. Their soda fountain was Pepsi, which I am not a fan of, but when given it as a choice, I can do the diet version. Foods that I tried and liked were; General Tso's Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, Green Pepper Steak, Chicken with Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein and the Green Beans. It's kinda funny, my favorite was the Green Beans and not any of the Chinese dishes. Foods that I did not like; Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon, Fried Rice and Fried Chicken Wings. It's disappointing when the Egg Roll and Crab Rangoon are not good when enjoying a Chinese meal. For me, if they are good, I can make them a light meal. Dining here you have very little interaction with the staff. You'll speak with the cashier when you first walk in and pay, and that's about it. Once you are dining, the staff working the dining room rarely speak as they bus and clean tables. The ambiance is non-existence, it's outdate and scary, but they keep it clean. If your self-esteem is low because you've gained a few pounds, go have lunch here. Once you see the other diners, your self-esteem will rise.

I eat here almost once a week with my pal Steven. We both enjoy this establishment for the cheap and easy sit down experience. Steven loves the decor in this restaurant though I don't give much thought about it. Some might say the food here isn't very fresh or that the place is a bit trashy but Steven and I think it has amazing charm. I would recommend you give it a shot. They have a huge selection. Some of my favorite items are the pot stickers, general Tso's chicken, and potatoes. Steven adores the lo mein and the green beans. The most recent trip I tried out their chicken wings and they were alright! Every once in a while Steven and I indulge in their sweets. I also have to point out that their sweet tea is fabulous and I usually drink two full glasses at least. I don't have much to say about the service since you serve yourself but everyone I've interacted with is always very nice. Good people. Steven did use the bathroom once and said that the toilet was broken but they might have fixed it since then. I hope so anyway!

The best little Chinese buffet in the the Midwest!

Growing up, this was THEE place to go for Chinese food. I would stay away from pretty much all other Chinese places in the area for fear of gastro-intestinal bugs. Now, this is not really authentic Chinese food, if that is what you're looking for, but it is good. The selection is very large and offers some items that other Chinese food lovers don't even believe exist (like peanut butter chicken) when I mention them. If you are not accustomed to eating very greasy food, then you might not want to go wild on your first attempt - many people are overwhelmed by the spread and load up on the first trip only to regret it later. Like I said, this isn't really authentic Chinese Food, but don't tell that to the locals. There are also a few standard American items like chicken tenders to keep the less experimental diners happy.

Then one day, as I went to a business next door, I saw the word Tempura on their windows. That opened the opportunity for me to consider them for a meal. My first visit I tried their Fried Calamari and the Beef Fried Rice. Both were outstanding. The Calamari was better than some of the Calamari that I have had at a sit-down restaurant. Going forward, when I am craving some Fried Rice, I'll be ordering it from, Toko Sushi. My second visit, I enjoyed the Deep Fried Crab Jalapeño and an order of Chicken Teriyaki. Both were outstanding. I learned that I didn't need both. They were large portions, the Jalapeño appetizer can easily be a meal for me. The chicken with the Teriyaki was tender and flavorful. I dealt with two different cashiers on my visits and both were extremely professional. I was impressed with the food and service. The food is pretty decent overall, with a few highlights and a couple of things that could use some tweaking. First off, the boba is okay, though one thing to note is that the tapioca pearls tend to get a little slimy if not stirred frequently, so keep that in mind. The seafood ramen was a cool dish, but the noodles could have been cooked a bit more to elevate the texture. The sushi was definitely a standout--filling and tasty. The cucumber roll was spot-on, but the salmon roll didn't quite match what I expected. It wasn't bad, just different in a way that threw me off a little. The vibe, though, is where this place really shines. If you're into anime, you'll definitely feel at home with the themed decor and atmosphere. It gives off a fun and lively energy, even if the restaurant still carries some of its IHOP roots in its outdated interior. Honestly, the old IHOP design is a bit noticeable, but it somehow adds to the charm and doesn't detract from the overall experience. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. The staff was wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and personal, making the entire dining experience feel much more special. They were attentive and made sure you felt taken care of throughout your visit. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4.5/5. Not perfect, but definitely a great spot, especially for the Alton area. It has a lot of potential and is a fun place to check out, especially if you're a fan of anime or looking for a unique dining experience. EDIT: Just finished the Bento Box Chicken Teriyaki, and honestly, it was the best bento box I've ever had! The chicken was cooked perfectly, with just the right balance of flavors and a generous amount of teriyaki glaze. The rice was on point, cooked to perfection--fluffy and full of flavor. And the sushi? Super delicious! It paired so well with everything, making the whole meal a delightful experience. Highly recommend this bento box if you're looking for a satisfying and flavorful meal! Updated rating: 4.7/5

I'm sure the casually dressed patrons loved the saki being squirted Tijuana style across the table into their mouths, that just wasn't what I was expecting by the decor and need for a reservation.

While i was debating a 2nd bite, i found a long hair. I stopped at 1 bite but really, for the best. The miso soup only tasted of salt and maybe Campbell's? Very mass produced, salty. I did take 2 "bites" of that. The hibachi looked good cooking but the fried rice was so oily. The vegetables very bland - maybe my tastebuds were dulled by the miso. The scallops were decent. The shrimp were fine. The filet was ok but I'm not really sure it was filet and not sirloin. I passed on the yum sauce- i don't find it yummy anywhere. I got ginger sauce which was decent. The Teriyaki was briwn syrup - so sugary sweet with little other taste. I took leftovers, mostly rice and steak, but just shared the steak with my dog and ditched the leftover greasy rice. Overall, just disappointing. My dining companions were nonplussed as well.

Substandard ingredients like fake krab and low quality fish just really turned us off. Rolls that should be chilled were room temp; so much so I was hesitant to eat it. Hubs roughed it out tho. He said the tuna had a funky, fishy taste and lacked that smooth, melt in your mouth texture that excellent sushi has. The rolls were so poorly prepared they just fell apart when we tried to pick them up. Sweet potatoes were raw. They did have GF tamari tho which I appreciated. The only bright spot was our server Kenny. She was super knowledgeable about food allergies and was friendly & upbeat. The grumpy barracuda working the front desk though, not so much.
