    Crispy seafood chow mein. Yummy.
    Christine L.

I ordered through DoorDash because I couldn't get out to pick it up myself. $35 for heaping portions of seafood crispy chow mein, beef shank tendon stew and one bowl of steamed rice. Noodles were super crispy. Seafood and sauce were kept in a separate container, so that the noodles retained its integrity. I liked the smoky flavour In the seafood sauce. You don't see this wok hei technique at a lot of Chinese restaurants in Calgary. Loved the generous amount of gai lan (Chinese broccoli) with the squid, shrimp and scallops. Beef shank and tendon were cooked well, the tendon was soft and jelly-like. The sauce was also fragrant from the wok. Lots of lettuce mixed in the hotpot, which I enjoyed immensely. There was plenty of beef and tendon in this serving. I could taste the freshness in the food. We two more meals out of our dinner and the leftovers were just as good. What I really appreciate about the Chinese Cultural Centre Cuisine is that I can get my authentic dishes (chef's specials) and order my husband the more western style Chinese food like chow mein, salt and pepper squid and ginger beef. I love that the owner put the "chef's specials" in English. These items are usually written in Chinese only, because most non-Chinese diners don't care for these dishes as it has more unusual ingredients and textures. I plan to order the three course Peking Duck for our Christmas meal. This is my to go restaurant for Chinese takeout.

Had Dim sum today.... it was my first time having dim sum here, but others who had come here before said that the quality has gone downhill. Basic dim sum fare. Gone are the days of ladies pushing carts and shouting out the menu items! Oh man - how it will date us when we are telling these stories to our kids! :) So... dim sum withOUT the lovely ladies is: 1) less entertaining 2) and there is no more pointing and ordering... "oh! I want that one! "... so you must know your menu items or just blindly order! haha but the good thing about ordering on a sheet is that it is "steamed" to order and comes out hot (and most places now use this method of ordering). Food was ok, some good, some bad. The bad was the rice paper rolls - it was ridiculous how thick the rice paper was ! hahah. RANT.... and now my ranting. I used to be able to eat dim sum - back in the days when the only shrimp you'd find would be in a shrimp dumpling, or shrimp toast. Then I became allergic to shrimp, and now shrimp is added to almost every dim sum item!!! WTF?!?!?! Pork dumplings should be pork dumplings! Not pork dumplings with shrimp on top (note: shrimp is not even listed on order sheet), and the pork and chives dumpling had shrimp IN it too (again no shrimp listed on the order sheet)!! =O Oh Em Gee! Why not just make 2 dumplings and charge more for the ones with shrimp on top?!?! hahah wouldn't that make more sense?! ... But really, it's a Chinese restaurant and no one will read this and it will never change... unless... UNLESS!!! someone has an anaphylactic reaction because they eat a pork dumpling but instead is surprised with pork and shrimp!! ....I call "NOT IT"!! :) It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye (or goes to the ER)!! ;-P

This restaurant in Calgary's Chinatown was highly recommended by a family member, and they were…read moreabsolutely right. We had been eating overly heavy dinners over the past few days, so we decided to be relatively gentle with our order this time. Here is a breakdown of what we tried: Xiao Long Bao (小籠包 - Soup Dumplings): This is my daughter's favorite, so we ordered two baskets for her. They were executed beautifully. They were well-steamed on a clean sheet, and thankfully, there was no grayish blood seeping out of the meat. The wrapper (麵 皮) was right on the spot--not too hard or soft, not too thick or thin, and it didn't have that rubbery "chewing gum" or mushy "play dough" texture you get at lesser places. The pork filling tasted clean with no funky pork smell. Very nice. Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup: This was just okay, but to be fair, I don't expect a flawless bowl of beef noodle soup from a restaurant that doesn't strictly specialize in it (especially at a Dim Sum-focused spot). The broth was a bit plain and served lukewarm. The tendon, however, was well-cooked and well-marinated with a pleasant taste; it was a bit on the firmer side, which didn't bother me. The noodles were on the softer, sparser side rather than dense and chewy. I personally prefer a firmer noodle, but again, I can't complain too much given the venue. Spicy Tofu and Preserved Egg (麻辣皮蛋豆腐): I really liked this dish. The tofu had a fantastic, fresh soy taste, the preserved egg was delicious, and the chili oil and soy sauce dressing was perfectly balanced. If you are wondering what these "black eggs" are and feel a bit hesitant or concerned about trying them, I highly recommend giving them a shot here. This dish will easily fix those concerns! Overall, it was a great meal. I will definitely return, and next time we have the appetite, I'll dive deeper into the dishes they truly specialize in.

Well I had to finally try it for myself last night. It's a small place and has the BBQ pork and duck hanging in the case when you walk in. They don't seem to speak very good English but the owner was there and translated for me. I ordered the special fried rice (duck, pork, egg, shrimp), green beans with black bean sauce and beef and 1/2 BBQ duck to go. The portions are huge so no worries about feeding a few people. It fed my husband and myself and I even brought some for lunch today and still have leftovers at home. The BBQ duck is amazing..crispy skin and great flavor. I have to say that I thought everything tasted even better today as left overs.

This place is a hidden gem of the strip all, it's location keeps it out of sight, and if I hadn't gone the wrong way in the one way I wouldn't have ever found it. The employees here are extreamly friendly, and I love how they accept credit cards without a minimum! They have a paper menu in English with a variety of stir fried dishes. So don't get too intimidated by the Chinese menu plaques on the counter. I will be back... Later in the week... Never mind... Maybe tonight.

We had to flag someone down multiple times just to get basic service, and this was on a Thursday afternoon when the restaurant wasn't even busy. The kitchen is doing its job. The front-of-house... not so much. Hopefully management invests in better training or hires people who actually enjoy hospitality. So here's the deal: come for the food, but bring a little extra patience. You'll probably leave happy with your meal... and mildly annoyed by the service. Choose your battles.

We asked for the runny egg yolk bao bc thats my fav, took a while to come out and wasnt that runny. We ordered some soup noodle dish but they messed up and gave it to us dry so they gave us a bowl or broth. Overall everything was mid, nothing was super yummy, idr anything was bad tho.
