Came by the next morning and quickly diagnosed that the issue was that my Nest thermostat that was previously installed wasn't compatible with my existing wiring. They then went out and bought a compatible thermostat, came back and installed. They also mentioned that there was a small leak in the refrigerant line and could try to patch and fill if I wanted or I could always have them come back in the future. I asked them to just finish the job if they could, and they actually came back in a couple hours to finish the job. Now the AC unit is working great - the place feels like an ice box! After realizing that my conventional gas furnace and water heater were burning more than 1000…read moretherms of gas each year (representing more than 5 tons of CO2 released in the atmosphere each year), I decided to replace my 20 years old central ducted air conditioner by a central ducted electric heat pump (for newbies, heat pumps move heat instead of creating it, thus having 300 to 400% efficiency ratio compared to 90% efficiency ratios of furnaces). I contacted 5 installers (most of the installers either didn't know the word heat pump or only proposed very low efficiency heat pumps) and I decided to contract Advanced Mechanical Services to replace my AC unit and my water heater by heat pumps, as the product they were offering seemed to be very good quality and the pricing competitive. Jack immediately understood what I was looking for and offered two options: either a super efficient Mitsubishi Hyperheat heat pump or a Bosch Bova 2.0 inverter driven. I decided to go for the low cost option (Bosch): the heat pump heats my home evenly when outside temperature is above 25F and below 25F the thermostat reverts the heating system to my gas furnace. As a result, the heat pump heats my home in silence except during very cold nights in January and February (when the noisy gas furnace serves a heating backup). My electricity bill went up a little bit in winter but it is very much compensated by the savings in the summer since the SEER efficiency of the heat pump to cool my home is way better than my old AC unit. My wife was skeptical in the beginning but she is now super happy with the system, since there is no more cold spots in the house, and the heating system is so silent (so is the cooling system). If I had to do it over again, I would probably go for the Mitsubishi Hyperheat system and get rid of the gas furnace since it works down to -15F. Following this very good experience with Advanced Mechanical Services I decided to contract them again to install a heat pump water heater (already installed and we're super happy) and a Mitsubishi hyperheat mini split for the basement that I intend to turn into a home office. I highly recommend Advanced Mechanical Services if you need a competent, reliable HVAC contractor, and in particular if you need to install low carbon solutions like heat pumps. They are competitive, reliable and nice to work with. The only downside is the fact that they don't have their own electrician but I provided them the contact of my electrician who is very competent, responsive and competitive pricewise. I forgot to mention that even though natural gas is very cheap in NJ (because we do not account for the damage done to the climate and earth), I reduced my gas bill by 90% and electricity bill by 20% which was a good surprise. So the system will pay for itself in the long run.

The previous contractor said the unit was dead with no coolant left in the system. They said they must replace the outside unit plus the two units in the house.RACSO found two leaks one at the outside unit and the other in the lines going through the garage to both inside units. The starting price from the original contractor was well over $20,000, on the way out the door he lowered it to $12,000.. We laughed in his face and used window units for three years. Now i'm sitting with a broad smile on my face with my mitsubishi Mr.Slim keeping me nice and cool for a little over three thousand. He kept me informed every step of the way about what they were doing. They came at 2 and finished about 5ish. We had previously agreed about a price. Yet I gave him a bit more because he also changed my bathroom sink faucet which the handle was broken.. the next day when I had a small issue, he came back quickly and fixed it. All in all, I probably would use him again.

Tanous had done a good job installing our AC splits so we went with them to when we proactively…read morereplaced our boiler in the summer of 2025 even though they were more expensive than other vendors. Things were fine until we had a series of cold weeks Dec-Jan of 2026. The boiler was leaking significant amounts of hot water to the point that our boiler room turned into a sauna and piping became corroded. Despite various calls and visits from Tanous, the issue was not fixed so we had to bring in a separate plumber to redo all the piping and replace key components of the boiler. We shared photos and videos with Tanous during the period of issues. During a particularly cold weekend without heat, they indicated that they could not send someone out to fix the issues. Our plumber indicated that various parts used in the installation looked to be used/repurposed and key items were misinstalled and they had to overhaul the entire system. The owner from Tanous ("Mike") promised to take care of everything and cover the costs of our plumber once he was back from traveling abroad, but went radio silent after we shared the invoice despite various follow ups from Jan-March of 2026. They also refused to provide their insurance to cover the cost of the repairs. I will never be using Tanous again and would caution anyone considering them for such work in the future.
