Tanous had done a good job installing our AC splits so we went with them to when we proactively replaced our boiler in the summer of 2025 even though they were more expensive than other vendors. Things were fine until we had a series of cold weeks Dec-Jan of 2026. The boiler was leaking significant amounts of hot water to the point that our boiler room turned into a sauna and piping became corroded. Despite various calls and visits from Tanous, the issue was not fixed so we had to bring in a separate plumber to redo all the piping and replace key components of the boiler. We shared photos and videos with Tanous during the period of issues. During a particularly cold weekend without heat, they indicated that they could not send someone out to fix the issues. Our plumber indicated that various parts used in the installation looked to be used/repurposed and key items were misinstalled and they had to overhaul the entire system. The owner from Tanous ("Mike") promised to take care of everything and cover the costs of our plumber once he was back from traveling abroad, but went radio silent after we shared the invoice despite various follow ups from Jan-March of 2026. They also refused to provide their insurance to cover the cost of the repairs. I will never be using Tanous again and would caution anyone considering them for such work in the future. read more

I had been recommended Tanous for minisplit installation, from a home inspector to many online positive reviews. I have to say my experience has been absolutely horrific. Things are connected with TAPE and coming undone. The job started in April and STILL is not finished. Water has poured out of units. It's all Oh I'm sorry, we'll fix it, and then yet another problem. I can't say enough amazing things about Alex and the entire Tanous team. Years back we were renting in Hoboken and lost heat over the holidays. Many people told us they couldn't come out for a service call but Alex ran right over and was extremely helpful. Years later in a different apartment, our boiler went. ******UPDATE****** JUNE 03, 2025 I posted the review on Sunday June 1, 2025 at around 9:00p.m. Within an hour, my husband receives a lengthy, sincere, and apologetic text message from Alex, the owner, explaining that he was not aware of this matter and was sincerely sorry for what had happened. The following day, my husband spoke to him on the phone and he stated that: - He would personally train the technician that came to our apartment for the assessment. - He offered to refund us the assessment fee. - He even went as far as offering to pay for the service cost that we had paid the other company. We did not accept that as we didn't think it was appropriate. - He was very apologetic and wanted to make things right by offering any help he could to us. - He gave us his personal number and told us to reach out to him directly going forward. We are very grateful that he took our matter very seriously and did everything he can to help us. As I mentioned below, we didn't call the company intending on causing any trouble or taking any advantage, but to make the company aware of the incident. Thank you Alex! JUNE 01, 2025 We've used Tanous before and had a decent experience. But, this time the experience was quite disappointing. Our HVAC didn't work so we had Tanous and another company come for an assessment. The technician from Tanous openly stated that he was relatively new so when he looked at the HVAC system he undid too many screws and to a point he wasn't able to put it back in and had to call another technician to come and help him. Afterwards, his assessment was we had to replace our entire HVAC system, which was not consistent to what the other company had suggested to us. As such, we decided to just opt for the cleaning instead to see if it would work. So we had the other company come back for the cleaning and immediately when they looked at the HVAC system, they knew somebody else touched it and undid too many screws. We tried calling Tanous to let them know this happened, but never got a call back from them. The reason I am writing about this review is not because of the assessment, but rather the handling of this whole thing. First - your technician undid too many screws and just tried to shove it back into where it was sloppily, banking on that we would just replace the whole thing. YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK THE WAY YOU FOUND IT. Second - Us as homeowners make the assessment as to what to do - you do not make it for us and bank on that we would just replace it. Third - We tried calling the company to let them know what happened. We weren't expecting anything - but we did not even get a call back. The guy on the phone just took down our information and said he'll discuss with the team and hasn't called back. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional - will not recommend them. read more

Service call is like over $200 a pop, tech guy (who is a relative to the owner) couldn't figure out what is wrong, suggest to replace a part that costs $300 - $400, which didn't work then they suggested the entire unit needs replacement for close to ten grands. Then the Sales Chris just ghosted me not able to secure a new machine. Ultimately went to another longtime building contractor AirPower and spent only $7k. Seems dubious business practice for them to "reset" google business page so they have only positive reviews displayed. read more

I had installed central ac and a mini split through Tanous and I'm extremely unhappy with the outcome. The actual work took much longer than expected which was a huge problem because I had stated that it needed to be done asap as I had other work needing to be done. I thought once they were done the problems were over but the craftsmanship is a disappointment as I've had issues over the year with the systems they set up. I worked with Mike and he promised a lot that he didn't deliver on. In the beginning, I had a very specific date by when the work was to be complete. He said no problem and once he took my money is when all the problems started. Consistently throughout the process, I'd hear different things from the crew. For example, I'm told as the crew is leaving for the day they're back tomorrow morning to finish up so I take the day off to ensure it'll get done in time, but they will no show and shift blame to coordinators. This happened multiple time and the job took almost 2 months from start to finish. I was already unhappy with how long everything was taking l, but I also needed help with piping issues and when I reached out mike was very quick to say "I got it handled for you don't let the other guy touch it." I thought since the whole install was taking much longer than expected he was doing me the favor to make up for the lateness. At the end of it all, he still tried charging me, but I refused to pay as he literally told me "I got it handled for you" without any mention of price. I also had mike take a look at a boiler at a tenants apartment and he was very quick to say it needs replacement. I got a second opinion and was able to get to the root of the problem - the tenant was running all the hot water to "heat" her shower up and would exhaust the whole tank before she hopped in. So basically nothing was broken, but mike was quick to push replacement as the solution. Now this is when the problems post installation starts. I had to climb into the attic because I noticed markings on my ceiling. I rush up to the attic to see what's going on and see that the ducting had come undone from the ac unit + a huge leak from the ac unit that damaged my ceilings. There was another incident where ducting to a bedroom had come undone and I had to reattach it myself with duct tape. On top of all this, the central ac is not sufficient enough to cool the whole house down. I have one room that is consistently like 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house in the summer time. The mini split they also installed is also a concern as they didn't install the condensation dripper correctly. Apparently it should be at least 12 inches away from the foundation of the building but they decided to leave it right along. I was really excited at first as mike was the quickest to respond and also had great reviews on Yelp. I also won't forget to mention that at the end of the day, mike did provide me with the lowest price, but the experience has been bad. I don't know if I was fooled by the reviews and great price, but this has been my experience. I waited a year to report back. I hope I was the one time issue and everyone who has worked with these guys have no issues. Generally were nice guys, but I have to be honest with the incoordination that really extended the work + the days of work I lost for no reason AND the bad job that was actually done. read more

ORIGINAL POST: We had a new HVAC installed in June by Tanous. This Friday morning we woke up, and the house was freezing cold. 60 degrees to be exact, and the weather forecast predicted temperatures below freezing all weekend. My husband gave them a call, and they said that the next available appointment time was Monday. The freezing temperature inside our house got so unbearable tonight that my husband spent about 2 hours on the phone with our smart-thermostat company, Ecobee. They determined that there was nothing wrong with the thermostat, but that our heat pump and auxiliary pump were both broken. I again called Tanous, who on their website tout their 24/7 service. Unfortunately they did not answer or call back. I am truly disappointed and frustrated by the lack of service. read more

Thank you Tanous! My HVAC was making a funny noise so I went on Yelp and found Tanous. I liked that they were local and saw lots of good reviews so thought I'd give them a try. I communicated with Chris (the owner?) via text and set an appointment for the following week. The repairman Johnny came today and was on time, courteous, professional, helpful, and efficient. He even took a little extra time to explain about how my HVAC/heater works so I could understand the process a little better. I appreciated that! And the price was pretty reasonable too. I had to cross that bridge. Replaced my AC unit, Heating unit, coil, and blower. I called places for estimates and Tanous had the best deal with a high quality Trane unit. Hell, they beat everyone else's estimate by thousands. They said it would be an all day job and did not lie. It took them 8 hours with different guys rotating in to do their specific jobs. Johan was here all day and he as with everyone else was polite and professional through it all. Johan was awesome. They replaced everything and took the old units with them. I even got the original work deducted from the price. Thanks Kris. After all of it was done, my wife thought the blower was too loud so when I called they sent someone over to deal with it. Took 20 minutes and the unit is whisper quiet, which is good since it's right next to our bedroom. With the warranty and on the parts and labor included I will be calling Tanous for years to come. I would give Alex from Tanous a million stars if I could. We've been living with a high pitched noise coming from the ventilation system of the restaurant below us for over a year now. Various contractors were called in and none able to make any improvement. Most just said the restaurant would have to replace the entire system (something they were not willing to do). Alex came in, took about 3 minutes to look at the system and immediately identified the issue. He then fixed it 2 minutes later in an incredibly cost effective manner. Alex is simply incredible. I had a radiator that was leaking water and needed to get it fixed ASAP. I left a note via their website, and Chris called me a couple of hours later. It was a late Wednesday afternoon, and they said their next availability was Friday morning between 9 am and 12 pm. They send a technician a little bit before 9, he took a look and said we would need a new valve and pipe. (Also really appreciated that he put shoe covers over his work boots so as to not scuff up our floor). He left for about an hour to pick up some parts but he was able to fix it the same day. We had another radiator with the same problem, which he got done within a few hours as well. The total cost was $650, which I don't think was too terrible. Overall, communication with Chris was quick and easy. Service was good too, since the radiator is not leaking anymore! Definitely would recommend Tanous HVAC. read more

We needed someone to take a look at our AC unit, it was no longer heating nor cooling. Our building has a unique AC type and many companies don't specialize in them. We really had a hard time finding someone. Tanous did a great job within 2 days( the visit was on a Thursday and the new unit installation was on the Saturday) before the holidays. I called Tanous after 9pm on a Friday night because our heating stopped working - the flame kept going on and off, and the apartment was slowly getting colder. Tanous was unfortunately booked until the next morning, but the owner, Alex, personally called me to to work with me to try to solve the issue. Not only did he take the time to call, he pulled his car over so that he could FaceTime with me and literally walk me through every troubleshooting step until the problem was fixed. Admittedly, I'm not the most handy person, so Alex sat on the phone with me for over an hour until the heat worked again. I can't tell you how patient he was. He asked that I show him my toolbox and had creative solutions when I didn't have the best tool. Even when I offered to get off the phone because I felt badly for taking up so much of his time on a Friday night he said "This is my pleasure, I just want to make sure you have heat tonight." Finally, after asking where I could mail a check or pay him for taking up so much of his time, he simply refused because he felt badly they could not come out in person. Just had my regular HVAC maintenance call and Tanous continues to impress. They are not the cheapest, but from experience I know -- they are worth every penny. I was in a jam (borderline emergency) and needed someone to remove some AC venting ASAP so I could access my drywall. Alex showed up in 15 minutes...seriously 15 minutes. He then pulled the vent himself even though he is the service/sales guy...I was able to get the needed drywall work done and when I asked Chris to have someone come back to reinstall the venting they went above and beyond. Todd and one of his colleagues came by and promptly put everything back plus they adjusted/reinstalled some of MY faulty AC PVC. Then Todd serviced the furnace and cleaned my venting, explaining to me why this is important and always good practice...He also Told me a whole bunch of other invaluable information about upkeep and servicing HVAC on the regular.... With some recent warmer weather I went to use my AC and found it was only generating warm air. I found Tanous in yelp and as they had great reviews I decided to give them a try and I wasn't disappointed. Chris quickly arranged an appointment for me, they were flexible when I called to change the date and fitted me in super quick - Johnny arrived during the designated time and was able to identify the problem and fix right there and then, he was friendly and willingly answered all questions I had - which has also led to me booking for them to install Nest in my apartment. Another thing I also appreciate is that they are available at weekends & later in the evenings during the week which makes it easier to schedule around my job. I've used Tanous to clean our vents and look at my AC before and always done a good job at a reasonable price. What happened this week takes the case. My hot water went kaput a few days after the huge flooding in NJ. I called up Tanous and left a message. An hour later Mike told me he was swamped but put on Facetime and he'd show me how to fix it. As he was driving down the road he spent 15 minutes with me getting the pilot light turned on (I know how to get the pilot light on - this was something different), and it works perfectly again. He refused payment! These guys are always courteous, personable, professional and polished. This company is picture perfect - from communication, to pricing, to dedication to the craft, punctuality, you name it. Every interaction adds value. I haven't written a review on Yelp in quite some time, but these guys are getting me off my butt to make sure you all know that they are good at what they do. My AC units were improperly installed before I moved into my new condo. However, the developers weren't willing to deal with the issues themselves. Eventually, I contacted Tanous and they were immediately responsive. The gentleman manning the phones (Chris) was helpful and direct. But the true superstar was my repairman, Todd. Todd was very deliberate in his work. He didn't rush, but he wasn't trying to run up the bill, either. As it turned out, my problem was complex to diagnose. He ended up calling the manufacturer after leaving my condo and trying to really nail down what was going on. We exchanged text messages with pictures whenever something further went wrong with my AC units and that helped him further diagnose the issue. And to top it all off, he was friendly, knowledgeable and really good at explaining the problem (as he knew it) as well as the potential solutions. I will definitely be using them again. This review is long overdue. Last year, my HVAC started giving me problems every couple of months. Last summer it stopped cooling and I had another HVAC technician come in and he added a booster to the compressor to keep it going. He said it was a stop gap measure and could fail at any time. Thankfully, it survived the summer of 2021. Then in the winter, we had issues with heating and I finally decided to replace the unit since it was almost 12 years old. I called my regular HVAC guy and he never got back to me with a quote. Then I called Tanous and another HVAC company. Both quotes were pretty close, but Tanous has great reviews. Also, a friend who lives in Hoboken had also used Tanous and was very happy. So I decided to go with them. Fast-forward a few weeks and the unit HVAC was installed in my condo in Jan 2022. A day later we realized it wasn't heating the master bedroom, only the living room. So I called again and they sent someone to fix it. There was a slight delay because Michael said most of his crew had COVID. Anyways, the problem was fixed within 3-4 days. Then on an unusually hot Spring day, we realized the cooling was very mild and the AC was running non-stop and barely cooling the apartment. Again, I called Tanous and they sent someone over a few days later. They found no problem with the unit. Then finally when summer came around, the same thing happened again. This time the crew came over and was able to identify and fix the problem. Michael is a great guy and very honest and responsive. Although, there were a few problems after the installation, he has always sent his team (or even come over himself) to get the problem addressed as soon as possible. I honestly regret ever using this company, leading the way for them to be the go to HVAC for my condo. Their work is only quick fixes that never last pass a couple days or weeks. When asking about diagnostics and cause of a problem, it's always a vague nonsensical response that changes from person; due to fix not able to be maintained and a different person comes out each time. There is no such thing as "24/7 Emergency Service ". If you call you get a vm, they call back and put you 9n a schedule, no matter how sever the issue. A year before the pandemic, they cracked a tile in my ceiling. Thank goodness I took pictures!! They said they had to order a new tile and they would replace it when it came in. I called back 6 -12months, it had never been order and I had to remind them to fix it. 1 year later I spoke to the owner Alex, who told me to send the pictures. He then came over, looked at the ceiling, couldn't give me a straight answer as to what they were going to do to fix it or when it was going to be completed. When I insisted based 9n the time that it was outstanding; he apologized, inappropriately asked what I did for a living, attempted to placate, appease and condescendingly said "that explains it". After several weeks, they tried to replace the tile with one that did not match the rest of the ceiling and tried to convince me It was fine; always going the cheap route to cut corners :( . When I voiced my dissatisfaction, they finally got an awesome independent contractor to complete the ceiling beautifully. His ( not Tanous) work was correct, complete and still stands the test of time! The reason for today's review is my AC is not working, the condenser is not turning over and everytime you set the thermostat to a number, the AC will register a hotter, higher number as it works! I called Alex, then got Alex. Again, nonsense explanation about the temperature of the water in the water tower , because of the heat (funny this never happened before in 10 years). I called back speaking to one of the Tanous, always insisting to come into my Apt when I'm not there ( that's how the ceiling got cracked, but I got there before he left). When Chris or Mike finally came to see it, this was after a wonderful gentleman (not a Tanous, I think Joe or Henry) did a thorough diagnostic and cleaning; but it failed again. Chris/Mike said there was a plug in the line, " he fixed it " and left black smudge in the sink w/o cleaning it. It is now 6-8 weeks later & still have the problem. Whe I called to get someone to come out he said sarcastically that he wished I would of called sooner, after I recounted the history of always being put on a schedule, instead of coming out emergently regardless of how bad it is. Guess what happened, I have 2 wait two weeks to be seen. PLEASE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE GUYS! GO TO PROFESSIONALS THAT STAND BY THEIR WORK. After getting poor service from 3 prior HVAC vendors, we count ourselves fortunate in finding Tanous. Entering a heatwave, we contacted Tanous on a Friday morning; luckily, they had a cancellation and sent Johnny (?), who arrived at the beginning of the service window. We have a pretty big house, with 4 condensers....and Alex (one of the owners) also came by to inspect what needed to be done. Turned out that we had to replace a blower motor and the control board on one of the units, among other maintenance items which required service. We were very impressed with their professionalism, attention to detail, pricing, and service quality. They were able to get the replacement parts the same day, and stayed until 9:30 PM... on a Friday night (!), to finish the job! To replace the blown motor and control board, they had to crawl into the attic, which the temp was well above 120+ degrees...and had a positive and helpful attitude the entire time. Towards the end of the job, when they were putting on the tie-cords on new insulation padding, they even took the time to snip the excess strips of the cords for a neater look/appearance...and this was after 9 PM! We deal with alot of home improvement vendors, and have to say Alex & Johnny, as well as the entire Tanous team, were not only informative and explained everything they were doing, but also advised us NOT to spend $$ on certain things which they explained were not necessary, and wouldn't be cost-efficient. If I could give them 10-stars, I would...the only hesitation I have in recommending them is that they will get too busy to schedule us in next time! Other than that, do yourselves a favor and don't even consider calling anyone else for your HVAC needs! read more

During a week of almost 90 degree heat, my A/C hvac unit broke. I had two companies come to look at it. The first told me the unit was shot and gave me a quote of 10k to put in a new one. Alex sent his guys over same day and and within minutes, FIXED my unit. Alex then took the time to call me and explain exactly what they did and why the unit was actually in good shape. Then explained how, in the future, how I'll know when it's time for a new unit. In this space Tanous is a rare find. I performed several days of research to repair or replace our HVAC system because the price was $8,000 to $10,500, so I knew repair was not guaranteed to work or last, and not cheap since R22 prices have skyrocketed.
