    Texas Longhorn Ranch

    Texas Longhorn Ranch

What a great find…read more Texas Longhorn Ranch is just a few hours outside of Toronto and well worth the visit - whether you're looking for just a night away with someone, or looking for a larger group activity. The TLR used to be a summer camp and has been converted into a very unique Bed and Breakfast. You're greeted by the family that owns the place and their farmhands (everyone was so nice) and shown the grounds. Unlike most B&Bs, you actually have your own cabin (which is a converted covered wagon). Maybe not the best for noise cancellation, but luckily there's no one around for miles. The room was neat, modern, and comfortable. A heater is provided incase it gets cool at night, and if you're lucky enough to get some night time drizzle, you'll fall asleep to the sound of dancing raindrops above you. There is a fire pit with each wagon (which they start for you, city slicker), and each morning you wake to find a fresh pot of coffee outside ready to go. There's also a large field (wouldn't want to mow it) for playing catch or whatever it is people do in large fields. They have quite a nice size pool and lounge chairs which during those hot Ontario summers will come in handy. The meals that were provided were awesome; great value and delicious. Totally homestyle. We had roast beef, fresh and local vegetables, strawberry shortcake, grilled potatoes, salad (it was enough for 6 people...there were 2 of us). It was so good (and $30 per person was the best deal i've seen for a meal of this quality/quantity). The horseback riding was what initially drew me here - and as a novice was happy to find that although am I a not horse-whisperer, the very capable hands of our trail-leader basically was. We had a about a 2 hour enjoyable ride through the woods, visited some neighbouring horses (which started galloping over to meet us....amazing), saw lots of deer, and enjoyed nature. The next morning it was time to leave and I remembered I didn't have that much gas (it's sort of the middle of no-where and probably 20 minutes to the closes gaz bar)...the Texas Longhorn Ranch came out and gave me a good 10L for free. Because they're that nice. I can't wait to go back. Best B&B/ local vacation I've had....and it won't break the bank. 5 out of 5 neighs. NEIGHNEIGHNEIGHNEIGHNEIGH!

She is horse crazy and got to feed and ride a horse for the first time. Even got a wagon ride from Milly the Mule. What a wonderful place--beautiful covered wagons to stay in too. The suite has a large bedroom and a separate sitting room and a separate private bath. It takes up one whole upper side of the large house. It, like the rest of the inn, was immaculate. We checked in late afternoon and through the beautiful wall-wide windows watched the sun setting over the snow. Gorgeous. Everything about Maple Cove exceeded our expectations. So comfortable and warm. Plenty of hot water for a tub in the morning, window seats in both the sitting area and the bedroom for sunrise and sunset views. Beautifully decorated, but not kitschy or cluttered. They also supplied a mini-fridge, a K-cup coffee maker, plenty of towels, extra blankets and pillows. In the morning Jan made us a gourmet breakfast. I do not exaggerate. An incredible omelet, fruit and yogurt parfait, fresh coffee, grilled sourdough toast, potatoes (perhaps fondant?) and orange juice. Plus homemade cinnamon scones! We loved it and will go back in the summer to use the pool! This may be the nicest B&B I've ever stayed in. Thank you, Jan and Mark!

We were welcomed immediately and they even acknowledged my birthday and left a little gift in the room. The rooms are clean and inviting, although the bathrooms a tad small. They had nice products of you don't bring your own. I personally loved the hand lotion. The water pressure when showering was also nice and rare. They had gogglecast if you want to use your own streaming on the TV (however I could not get it to work for me) They had a beautiful pool area with saunas and a nice gym on the bottom floor. We tried both options for food. The lobby bar was fantastic. Our server was very friendly. (I'm trying to find her name and unfortunately I cannot find the receipt but she was serving on both October 29 and 30th). I had steak frites with a really good chimichurri sauce. And I love the flavor of the french fries. For my drink, I had a cosmopolitan, but I usually switch out the vodka for tequila. She poured this drink to the book and it was perfect. The downstairs restaurant was a disappointment. The food was not as described and very lackluster. We are both ordered the scallops and while it looked nice it just didn't hit the mark. The drinks were even worse. My friends drink she couldn't even finish It was supposed to be a spicy margarita. Mine what's supposed to be a cosmopolitan but it tasted like fruit punch. It was so sweet. (I can agree we should've said something, when someone has more than half a drink, but they're leaving behind. You would think they would ask if something was wrong) We ended up going back upstairs to the lobby bar. Sadly, the worst part of our stay was the paperthin walls. My friends slept peacefully the first two nights. I had a horrendous last night and of course that was a struggle when we had to waking up early to go to the airport. My first night was the hardest because of noise. Ideally, it's parents that let their children run around the hallways or scream in the rooms that are the problem. I can't hold the hotel accountable, but I did knock on the wall of the adjacent room and immediately heard them telling their child to stop. Overall, I would definitely consider staying there again, but I may ask the front desk if they have a quieter room or floor that they could offer. Because we were traveling for business. It was very long days and the lack of solid sleep as a challenge.

I don't know if this is a new hotel or was recently remodeled but it is very clean and modern inside. There's a cool hotel bar that matches the upscale feel. The ice machine was difficult to find. There's a sign that points you down the right hallway, but then nothing. I just decided to try a door that was marked (Staff Only) and lo and behold there it was.
