Chipman relocations was the destination shipper. Our shipment had been severely damaged in process. The company rejected our shipment on the dock. There was no official record submitted to Atlantic Relocation Systems. Our belongings were dropped off with many items broken and half of it missing. The boxes had been tampered with. There was no official weight given. This will make it difficult during the claims process. Our boxes actually had tire marks on them. Chipman didn't do us any favors. read more

I used Chipman for both a home and office/lab move cross country. There were tons of moving parts but my coordinator, Rose, kept everything straight and stayed in constant contact 7 days a week. The packing and loading/unloading crews were great, everything got moved without a hitch. I am happy with the moving. Chipman Relo is very professional. The whole moving process was smooth.

Based upon our move, this is a mediocre company in a sketchy industry. Our goods were packed and moved into storage. We were told they would need a week's notification to arrange the transport of our goods out of storage to our new home, all within the same state. It took 3 weeks for them to do so. The driver they used to deliver the goods was inexperienced. We found this out from the crew. He got the truck and trailer stuck going around a curb and was unable to move the truck for a good hour and a half. During that time, I saw the trailer with its left rear wheels in the air, bucking as the driver was trying to get the truck to move forward. Our goods were still in the trailer, presumably bouncing around. I was told that he had forgotten to release a brake. Eventually, they decided to rent a Penske truck and transfer our goods off of the main truck into the rental. As they were delivering the furniture to the house, several wood furniture pieces had been loaded at some point without the padding that they had been wrapped in. All of these pieces sustained damage. We had taken out insurance and filed a claim for each piece. Lastly, the claims process took months to resolve. We dealt with two claims people. As we progressed through the process it was hard to telI if we were constantly being lied to about the claim status, or if they were just passing on faulty information. I have a 40-50 email trail that leads me to believe it is the former. When moving, take lots of pictures and have at least 3 people on hand at both ends to monitor the work done. Create an inventory list separate from the one the mover will create. If you pack yourself, inventory what is in the box both on the list and on the box. I recommend that one person follow the driver as he lists your contents and determines its status in the comments. I found errors made about supposed pre-existing damage after the fact. Damage that did not exist. On the receiving end, take copious pictures and make notes. Have someone check off the goods as they are delivered against both inventory sheets. This was not the worst move we have experienced nor was it close to the best. One of their employees actually told us that hers was a bad job in a horrible industry. I believe her. read more

However, I did NOT go with Chipman as I received a quote from another reputable company that was $800 less. - I dealt with Daniel Walker. His office number is 530-758-5306. He has his own company called Yolo Transfer & Storage, Inc. located at 1625 W. National Drive in Sacramento. I had called up Chipman to ask for someone to come to our place to do an estimate. A couple of hours later Daniel called and we arranged a day and time for the estimate. He showed up on time and I have to say he was very professional, he listened, he knew exactly what he was doing and explained every charge to me. It took him less than 15 minutes to the calculations and he gave me the estimate right away. I was very happy with this personal level of service and I feel really bad I won't be using Chipman for this move. However, I hope to deal with them in a future move. read more

We chose Mayflower through Chipman because we received a thorough estimate from Brian Essary. After our initial contact, we were in the hands of Chipman's very capable Cimber Dahlstrom. Our goods stayed in California in storage waiting for our new house to be built. Cimber is professional, friendly and she replied quickly to my inquiries. We had to reschedule several times because of builder's supply chain problems. Cimber reassured us that it was OK to reschedule, and provided us with cost information. The movers who loaded up the truck were very friendly, professional and efficient. Cimber is to us the face of Chipman/Mayflower and she is the face of a successful move. Our experience with CR dates back several years. We initially hired them to pack our complete household in Truckee, CA and move it into their storage facility in Sacramento. We then kept our belongings in said storage until recently, when we moved it to our home in the SF Bay Area. The movers and warehouse staff were always courteous, focused on ensuring our satisfaction, and very responsible in the handling of our belongings. Overall, the one person that stood out the most for us was Rose Olsen, our Account Coordinator. Her attention to providing us with excellent customer service was fundamental why we maintained a relationship with CR for the length of time that we did. The only reason for our overall score being 4 out of 5 is that some of CR's services are on the pricier side. Using them is not cheap, but we do believe that we received good value for our money. read more

My wife and I needed a mover to relocate us to New England from Oakland CA. So of course I contacted my brother-in-law Joe Alves, a salesman for Chipman who has organized moves for several family members and friends. Planning the move with Joe was a breeze. In April we planned for a move in mid-September, and he reserved our move date. Joe came out to the house to estimate the load size. He estimated 8000 lbs, contingent on us cutting down the weight of our move, and he recommended ways to do that (e.g., get rid of as much paper and books as possible!). He also provided us boxes upon boxes, and wrapping paper for our stuff. And he spent a lot of time suggesting the best and safest ways to pack my spouse's many pieces of art. As the move date drew near he put us in touch with our move coordinator, Paulette Hayes. Paulette was amazing. Moving is stressful, and she was extremely helpful in answering all our questions and making sure we had everything we needed as move-out day approached. And she checked in with us just before the moving day, just after the move-out day, and then again before and after our stuff arrived at our New England home to make sure everything was satisfactory. It was, and she was too. She was highly competent, kind, courteous, and cheerful throughout. There were a lot of moving parts to our move, and she choreographed them beautifully. The move happened without a hitch. We're very grateful to Paulette, as we are to Joe. He swung by our on move-out day to make sure everything was going well and he also followed up after the move was complete. Our stuff arrived in about a week, the move-in went without a hitch, my wife's art work arrived in perfect condition, and...our stuff weighed 8000 pounds! Lastly, I wanted to offer a shout-out to Zack Alves, Joe's son, the lead mover of our stuff from our home in Oakland to the cross-country truck awaiting at their staging area. He did an amazing and meticulous job figuring out the massive puzzle of how to get all these differently shaped and weighted and boxed objects to fit into the truck, and the movers he worked with were amazing. Relocated from Citrus Heights to Arizona. Paid invoice up front with our belongings going to storage for 6 months. When we were ready for delivery there was an additional cost, $7500 more in costs. I challenged the cost and was told oops, we over charged you. However the remaining amount was still more than we expected. The original invoice stated somethings were included like delivery which I was charged for prior to delivery. I have emailed the sales guy Brian, I have not heard from him to date. I have asked in multiple times and sent emails but I have not received a clear explanation about the extra charges nor has it been explained to us about the other company we had to deal with and pay for services. This was not explained and made this entire transaction feel like a bait and switch. In order to received our belongings, we had to pay Chipman and then cut a check to the other company. I am prior military and have moved before and this was by far the worst experience I have ever received. We still don't have an explanation to our questions and concerns! I can only imagine how fun it is going to be when we file our claim. Yep, we have a few items damaged and missing to include my wife antique sewing machine that belonged to her great-grandmother. I had a great experience with Rose Olsen, who recently coordinated a move through my employer of my office from one of our southern California locations to one in the Bay Area. The move was complicated immeasurably by the strict Covid-19 access protocols in place on either end of the move. Rose Olsen did a great job of coordinating our move from Wisconsin to California. She is an excellent, positive communicator who was always ready to find solutions to any challenges that arise during the moving process. She continually checked in with us to make sure that everything was going well and also checked in regularly with the driver and other stakeholders. When we needed help finding a solution for empty boxes, she contacted a local company in our destination and made arrangements for us to get the empty boxes recycled. Had to down grade them, after I wrote the first review we finished unpacking most of the boxes, found more broken things, the gaming table had to be thrown away, when we finally got to the back of the (15x30) storage unit we found heavy boxes on top light boxes that we being crushed, they pack high then they found out later they didn't have to, had a 2nd unit a 12x20 for my 57 Chevy pickup that they could have used, had 4ft of room left in front when they got done. I have moved 5 times with 'professional' movers. This was by far the worst experience and I will NEVER recommend Chipman Relocations. My realtor recommended them and is very upset as well. We have written an email expressing our dissatisfaction, but have heard NOTHING in over 1-1/2 weeks. Chipman is very, very unprofessional. They showed up 1-1/2 hours late, then only 2 of the 4 showed up. The other 2 showed up 1/2 hour later, but we were charged for 4 people by each hour. We had to call them to find out what was going on. They gathered around the lead guy's cell phone to watch a YouTube video, answered personal calls and texts, took their time to ensure they met the 'quoted' time/hours, we waited for them at our destination for 1/2 hour while they 'refueled but that was less than 4 miles away and we all pulled away from the house at the same time, they broke a chest of drawers and hid it from us; we got to hear how one of the individuals was homeless (gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling). I'm relocating into a permanent home in a little over 5 months, and you can be sure I won't be calling this company nor any of it's affiliates again. read more

Never again! I was "sold" on the fact that the Chipman sales representative guaranteed that none of my furniture would move out the front-door without first being completely bubble and/or blanket wrapped. Not true. What they did was to haul every piece of furniture out of the home barehanded, placed in on the driveway, where it was handed off to a loader who wrapped it in blankets on the truck. Result? Virtually every piece of furniture arrived to it's new home either nicked, dented or flat-out scratched. When I told the foreman that I needed to file a damage claim, he defensively stated that any claim would come out of his paycheck. I work in HR, Sir, and it legally doesn't work that way. They will sell you the guaranteed replacement cost coverage (mine was an additional $850), which doesn't really do any good unless the truck crashes and burns with your belongings onboard. What you sign-up for with Chipman Relocations is not what gets delivered. Recommendation? Stay far far away. read more

Recently used Chipman to move 5 miles from one side of town to the other. Theresa came to the house and went through everything, I mean everything (including opening the dishwasher) to provide a quote for packing and moving. We told her the driveway at the new house was steep and to send someone out to look at it. Before the packing day, I was able to pack up and move three rooms (guest bedroom, dining room, and butlers pantry) and half of the kitchen. On the packing day, they showed up late and only stayed until 3 pm. They didn't get the packing done. One strange thing on both days was the workers use of the bathrooms. At one time during the packing day there were workers in two of my bathrooms for almost 30 minutes. And that went on throughout the both days. I can't tell you how many hours of work we lost. At one point, I found them going through our "junk pile" instead of actually packing. On moving day, I ended up packing myself because they didn't get the job done the day before. Again, the use of the bathrooms, one guy was in the bathroom at the new house playing music from his phone. They didn't box up my TempurPedic mattress (which they charged us for), it got dirty, they scratched up my washer and dryer, they put a gouge in my hallway wall, left cigarette butts everywhere, packed my husbands ties in a box with candles (really? Who does that?). I'm still missing a lamp (yes, a lamp) and a phone. They didn't catalog any of the boxes because they were running so far behind. So, we don't know how many boxes we should have paid for. The final cost was right in line with the "estimate" despite the fact that I had boxed and moved over three rooms before they got to the house. Oh, and the kicker, the second truck got stuck in our driveway. It had to be towed out. The movers said Chipman would come and remove the packing material for $150. Well, thank you Theresa for calling me back (I'm being sarcastic). My husband had to call her and now we are still waiting for a date. Guess you don't make too much commission on $150. All around, unprofessional, poor service and totally disrespectful. read more

Guess I should have looked at yelp reviews rather than trusting the references I called. Let me start by saying that many of the actual movers seemed to know what they were doing... at least the first 2 days until we started seeing workers switched out for less skilled labor. The problems we had multiplied by the hour and made our corporate move absolutely miserable. 1) the move took 7 days instead of the promised 2 2) items were damaged or missing - more than the normal for a move of this side as we estimate tens of thousands of dollars in expected recovery costs 3) nobody seemed to be in charge or know what was supposed to be happening 4) crews would show up HOURS after they were supposed to arrive and attempts to communication with coordinators, QC managers, PMs, or anyone else were futile. 5) Communication. Terrible. Not even sure how to explain how bad it was... That's just to name a few. In the end it came down to this: if you couldn't do our move in the expected time/money you promised, then you should have been upfront with a higher bid or accurate timetable. The workers were stretched too thin with multiple jobs where they were only getting 5-6 hours of time to go home and rest between days due to the long hours. Management totally dropped the ball on this one AND wouldn't own up to their mistakes and shortfalls. Very disappointed in the outcome after the great relationship in the months leading up and seemingly great planning. I guess you really to get what you pay for... read more

Just received a settlement statement for my damaged items..........the punch bowl which was my Mother's and was shattered, along with the large decorator Rooster, apparently were only worth $36.00. Folks, WARNING...if you pack your items yourself obtain the MAXIMUM insurance possible. This was their out. 60 cents per lb. NOT 60 cents on the dollar, maximum is your reimbursement for damage on basic insurance if you pack yourself. Never worried about this before cause I never had any damage like this!!!! read more

This is the worst moving company I have ever dealt with. I have no idea what type of movers the people leaving 4 and 5 stars had arrive for their moves, but I certainly did not have anyone professional show up for mine. Chipman shows these nice people in uniforms on the website that are carefully moving and packing items. I had none of that. For my full service move, I had a bunch of guys show up late in a SUV to meet the moving truck. The guys were young and clearly not professional movers. The movers did not follow directions, packed items inappropriately and left curtains and other items behind all over the house. The guy in charge of the movers nearly knocked off the freezer door trying to piggy back a box of food out of the kitchen. Honestly, the guy did not have the wits to wait for the door to be closed or to turn to avoid hitting the freezer door. I had to grab the door to keep him from breaking it. After he got by, he knocked over a family heirloom with the friggin box on his back! When the movers got annoyed with packing, they threw stuff in huge boxes with no lid, and spilled items down the stairs to the moving truck. Totally ridiculous! I tried complaining to the company, but all I was told was that this was not typical of the movers, and that I could file a claim for my items. No one at the company even apologized for my inconvenience or unacceptable experience. I will add to this once I know how the claim process goes. Absolutely worst company to use for moving. This company uses bait and switch, as the company advertises one thing yet provides another. Packing is not like the site advertises, movers are not as advertised and service is not as advertised. If you want a bunch of young guys that look like they were hired same day from Craigslist without a background check then this company is for you. If you are like me and you want a professional experience and your items moved correctly in one piece, stay away from Chipman. read more

I watched the tv show, Undercover boss and it made an impression on me. I said, if I have the opportunity and $$ to have a company move us, then this is the one. Annette came out 3 times over 2 years to re-estimate our move. I deducted, sold, bought, sold and finally the day came. Everyone was professional, had personality and worked their tails off. Follow up was awesome with a manager coming by to make sure we were happy. Not one thing broken. They did pack up mirrors, art, lamps, and some small kitchen items. Here is my response followed by my original review which I stand by 100%**It's not appropriate you would call me about a review I left. It was honest. The move was mismanaged, my things were damaged. You going as far as calling me dishonest in your voicemail is very unprofessional. We had more "stuff" then furniture. You are my first "professional" movers, however I am not your first client. You should have known to explain things like coverage & do a proper estimate not for me but also your employees who worked way to hard that day. Please do not contact me again unless it's to provide me a replacement crib. Thank you-SK!**NO STARS! Where to begin...they bent the support frame on my new Simmons crib & gouged the front panel. All my keepsakes are stored in sturdy storage totes which were put under so much pressure they buckled and broke open on the sides. I haven't checked to see if my items are ruined which include my grandmothers dishes who passed away. I was told my level of coverage didn't include boxes of any kind. I WAS NEVER TOLD THERE WERE DIFFERENT KINDS OF COVERAGE. No one even came out for a estimate which I didn't know was needed. She assumed what the job would be and told her workers 4 hours since I explained its about what I could afford. (I have 7 kids) at 100 per hr we finished at $975! It was a 4 man job & cost me extra since there was no estimate. When we spoke yesterday she was less than sympathetic although she said sorry considering she put me & her employees in a bad position. I was told to file a claim on the crib only. Now I am out a grand & have damages I will never see. I have used uhauls in the past & hired people to help and never had my things ruined. This was a horrible experience and a total rip off considering the damage and extra time since no estimate was done. I am heartbroken & beyond disappointed. Annette is the person who handled it all. The only good thing about this company is the employees. They worked their asses off & I blame them for nothing. Had my move been properly estimated and handled things would have been different. I am the Facilities Manager of a trucking company whose corporate office is in Sacramento. I was first introduced to the local Chipman branch on National Drive in Sacramento in August of 2013 when we did an office move. They were so incredibly well-organized, efficient, capable and professional. They offered helpful suggestions and equipment to make our move so fluid. We have the typical "cubicle farm" set up and Chipman sent teams through as needed. The first group whose expertise was the construction and electrical hook-up of the cubicles, then another team to move executive furniture, huge file cabinets and oh, so many boxes, etc. This move went so well and these men were so easy to work with that we have hired Chipman to help us with a MASSIVE closing of a warehouse in Hayward that included handling a incredible amount of equipment locally, then moving all files up to Sacramento in the end. I have called - and will continue to call - them on many occasions to do everything from reconfiguring cubicles, or executive offices to helping with my annual records archive project. In addition to my professional experience with them, I have recommended them as movers to at least 4 of our employees for their personal moves. Christina in the office is a joy to work with and Kevin and Jeff are right on target with quotes and configurations. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

I used United Moving and Storage through Chipman Relocations to move from Sacramento to Nebraska. The agent came to my house was very nice and answered all my questions. He also told me that my floors and doors would be protected. Didn't happen. I was told that my furniture would be picked up on a certain date. The night before I received a call from the contact at United stating that the driver was delayed and wouldn't be at my house for two days. The next day the company showed up at my house with a very small truck and said that they were to pick up my entire house and take it to a warehouse where it would be unloaded off the truck and stored for two days, then picked up by the driver. I refused to have them take my things to the warehouse. When the driver showed up at my house two days later, he arrived two hours later than he told me the night before. No one knew where he was. The contact at United could not reach him. The truck was loaded by 6:00pm. The driver told me that he would be at my house in Nebraska on Monday. He promised me a direct ride! Didn't happen. We arrived in North Platte on Sunday. The driver told me he would be at my house on Monday morning. He did not arrive until 3:45pm. His help arrived before he did. Two other day laborers arrived to help unload the truck. One of them had been drinking. This was verified by another guy who was hired to unload and his girlfriend helper. They were terrific, polite, respectful, careful. I called the local company to report the drinking incident. One other helper, who was procured by the guy who had been drinking, had never unloaded a moving truck. He just came for the money. When the truck door was opened, I saw one of boxes had fallen over and had been punctured. Things in the truck looked messy. I pointed this out to the driver and he said, You know I can just take this truck and leave. I don't have to unload this. I felt threatened. Either I shut up or he was leaving. I took pictures and called my contact at United. She stated this should not happen. I told her that the driver was in the cab and that two day-laborers were unloading my truck and one did not have any experience with moving furniture or unloading huge moving trucks. I had to get the driver out of the cab several times to show him things that had been damaged. At one point he argued with me and said, you think my truck did this? More pictures! and video! Another phone call to the contact at United. A call to my agent based out of California. As I have unpacked I have found more things that have been damaged. I will be filing a claim, and do have total replacement coverage. I have moved many times. This has to be the worse experience. The Company subs out the drivers, who sub out laborers and these laborers do not work for the moving company. They happen to be available. Take my advice, find out all the details, for example, will there be a possibility that your truck will be unloaded into a very hot warehouse and then reloaded, find out if your shipment can be delivered directly to your new house or if they will travel hundreds of miles to load and unload other customers. The driver has to log his miles. He told me that he had been over the limit for the past month. I guess that is why he was in his cab. Perhaps taking a nap or getting more jobs. If you have expensive furniture and artwork, dishes, etc, how many of you would want those loaded onto a small truck, unloaded into a warehouse, and then loaded again onto a moving van? The risk of damage increases because the items are handled more than once. Moving has changed. The quality is low and the risk is high. They promise you the world just to get your business. From beginning with the Estimator Kevin S., through the Move Coordinator Christina T., Rich in the warehouse, to Jeremie C. and his peeps, that was probably the easiest (although I HATE moving) transition I've ever made. Chipman Relocations was supposed to be a helpful hand during our PCS move back to states. However, not only did they leave a mess of boxes and packing paper (that took them over 2.5 weeks to come collect), we were missing the hardware to TWELVE pieces of furniture. End tables, 3 sets of patio furniture, office desk, etc. I originally thought the movers from overseas must had lost a box of hardware but I have now stumbled upon wrapped and labeled bags of hardware to the furniture miscellaneously placed around our new house...very strange. Have to question the motives of this moving company. I found two bags outside in the garage in a gardening bucket. I found three placed in different bins around the kitchen, and another placed in the bottom an "empty" moving box, all throughout the last 2 months. It seems to me like Chipman Relocations did not want to put the items of furniture together for us and caused us a lot of distress in the process of them "misplacing" the hardware. read more

Two thumbs up to Kevin and Christina who worked with me to customize a plan for our unusual move of 1/2 a mile from office warehouse to office warehouse (under construction). The movers were efficient and professional and got the job done early. We are going to use them again to now move the desks and office furnishings from the warehouse into the individual finished offices. read more

for some reason my review was taken down by this place. i'm still super upset at them as some of my items that were shipped were broken. on top of that, they wanted to upsell me because they found out my employer was going to reimburse me. ok, i get it, but come on, not everyone wants to give their employer the shaft. just really unprofessional in my opinion. read more
