TRULY awful experience. Avoid at all costs. I've used other movers before and never had such a bad experience. I hired them for an office clean out move. The men who showed up where not prepared and lacked proper equipment. They showed up over a half hour late. One seemed visibly intoxicated. They didn't work together and in the process of moving heavy furniture, damaged several cabinets due to negligent moving and lacking proper equipment. When I requested to have our final invoice revised to account for the damage to our furniture I was informed that they have a policy where they make their customers pay in full for the move and then they will see if they will pay for damages. What a headache and what a bad practice to make your customers put more work into an already bad situation. When I got estimate from Duke for my move I let him know I had just got out of the hospital because of a heart attack and I was still extremely weak and fragile. I also let him know I'm autistic and have complex PTSD. My move was not big, 1 and a half bedrooms. He assured me everything will be ok when I told him I have items that can't be treated rough. The first crew did not listen to my instructions, broke items, packed food and trash into the boxes and packed several pairs of shoes by themselves. I found this out when I began unpacking. What the heck was that about!!!??? Packing trash into the moving boxes along with my items like they were trash. They packed things like my safe when I told them not to. I've got many pictures and video of me unboxing my things to back up what I am saying here. The boxes were mislabeled, labeled clothes but in the box were dolls, a bag of donuts, food, clearly not clothes!! Why did they pack food with blankets? They even through in my dogs treats.! I am so mad and upset at how they just threw my things in boxes. Things were broke. Antique bottles smashed. Dolls that had their heads broke off and were discolored because whatever they were packed with bled into them. I can't get the stains out. All this got me so upset when I was unpacking I stopped and let the unpacking alone for some time. My ptsd was giving me severe anxiety at what I would see when I opened the boxes. It mad me cry how they did my things. Packing one shoe out of several different pairs was deliberate. My shoes were all together before they came in. I'm getting so upset writing this now. My health is fragile and they knew that. That did no respect my things at all. Treated my things like trash. That is very hurtful to me. I just had a heart attack! Who cares how they treated my things! Disgusting and so damn unprofessional. I was so upset at the condition of my room after they got done throwing my things in boxes that I called Duke and let him know how upset I was. I did not want them coming back. I got a great crew the next day. Sean and his guys were professional and kind. I know I will never get over this trauma from that first crew they sent. I found my dogs bone and a treat in my bed that night. What was that about? Add that to there messy unprofessional treatment of my things and shoes. WTH is the problem that they did these things to me? I have many pictures and video to share if asked. I am still very upset and traumatized. The thing with the shoes is not funny. I had an old pair of shoes to wear until I found the others in separate boxes. Don't tell me that wasn't deliberate. They did not listen to my instructions and packed things I didn't want packed so I was without these items for some time. They packed medicine I told them not to. Their drivers are mostly shady out of state contractors. Ours broke several items, and lost several items. We were rushed through the delivery paperwork signing process at the end of the move and may have screwed ourselves. The driver took our expensive refrigerator door handles in his truck and promised several times to return them but did not. The claims adjustor then sent us a ridiculous insult of a settlement check, which on the advice of our attorney we will not cash. I would not recommend this firm. read more

ZERO STARS!! I moved in July 8th and the movers put a hole in my wall. I contacted the company and filled out a claim form. I did not hear back from the company for several weeks past when I returned my keys for my old apartment. Then the contractor they hired to fix the damage contacted me and let me know that he went up to my old (without asking) and spoke to my leasing office of which they let him know that they had already rented out the apartment and they could not go in and fix the damage in which I had already fixed and paid for out of my own pocket. my old leasing office stated I only owed $120 for a cleaning fee. Jeff the manager of mother lode reached out after and stated that they would refund me the $120 of the cleaning fee as an apology. I emailed this company several times over several months asking for an update, with no response to my emails, then finally I received an email from Jeff IN OCTOBER MONTHS LATER stating that he never promised that he would give me the $120 for the cleaning fee and that I never filled out a claim form, of which my emails state otherwise. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I would never recommend them and they broke more than just my wall. They also damaged my mattress and broke a cup, but I did not file a claim for those because I was acting in good faith and things happen while moving. read more

We moved from CA to AZ at the beginning of the pandemic. The two stars go to the movers wearing masks and being safe and good with our belongings. Everything we expected showed up, with minimal damage. The company we used for the move is North American Van Lines, and Mother Lode was their local handler. The issues were all in the price quoting and customer service after the fact. Duke the salesman said they would charge us ONLY for what they packed and would refund the rest, so my husband packed about half of our stuff before the packers arrived. That refund never appeared, despite me calling multiple times, and both North American and Motherlode passing the buck to each other. Neither company called me back and I left several messages with each. Yes, we got a refund for our shipment being underweight, but NO PROMISED REFUND on packing and my husband busted his butt to get as much packed as he could. Super disappointing but after a couple of months, it wasn't worth the aggravation. I would not use them again. read more

We used Mother Lode to move 100 miles from CA to NV and are extremely disappointed. We used them because the estimate fitted into our budget but beware. Once they have your belongings they give you "another" estimate, which is considerably higher than the original. They called us the day before delivery and asked for another $3600 otherwise they would not deliver our household goods. Original estimate was $5700 and now they wanted another $3600 for less than 100 miles. They claimed they had packed our kitchen, not true, we packed our kitchen. They claimed our household goods far outweighed the "estimate" given. Isn't an estimate the guideline we have to use to budget? Upon delivery the driver informed us he'd never had the chance to weigh the truck. In addition we have dozens of things missing. We wrote to the BBB, Northern Van Lines (the company who actually took our goods) with details of what was missing, well over $10K worth of goods and Northern Van Lines DENIED our claim. Denied the fact that they were ultimately responsible. If they're not responsible, ultimately WHO IS? We are extremely unhappy with this company, the movers and the lack of responsibility they took for our things. read more

Duke came through two days ago and I've yet to receive a quote. While he was here he pointed out dirty dishes in the sink and said, "you'll have to clean those first." He looked inside the dishwasher for I don't know what reason. It's my deceased mom's home and some of the furniture is going to Goodwill. Goodwill has already agreed to take the furniture but his comment was "I doubt they will take it." I have a large ceramic planter that my cats have used as a litter box. I understand emptying all planters of dirt but his comment was "you'll have to scrub it." Commenting on my dishes, furniture and other iitems is too much. read more

Laura Stein, the moving coordinator, was always available for questions and concerns. No questions were to big or too small; she was very competent. Be careful about this company, they are not up front about much of anything. I can not verify all of their 14 bullet points about the company, but, I can comment on the few of them that reflect my storage situation. Family owned and operated. Yes, the wife came to my house and gave me an estimate of what it will cost to store my garage. After they took my items the price was $50 over the estimate. Bullet point, Flat rate, No surprises . Watch this, they charged me $50, just to take something from my storage. I notice they didn't have a bullet point for security. My storage containers were opened prior to me being there. I was forced to pay a full months rent, because I had a CREDIT, strange. They try to make me pay $243 just to take my things out of storage. After I questioned that fee, they brought it down to $150, then they wanted a cash payment. They didn't get it. When I got there to pick up my storage, I noticed they were sealing up the storage units again. Nothing about this company, as far as, Storage is fully true. Be careful ask question get things in writing, they will prey on the weak. PS... No one there was wearing a mask, nor practicing safe distance. But they knew how to tell me to get out of their office because I didn't have a mask on. Oh yeah, I forgot, they are family owned. read more

Just to clarify the editorial comments from North American Mother Lode Moving. Correction: The movers loaded our stuff in the dirty container until we saw and asked if we could at least sweep it out. We gave them our brooms. The "constant communication" was mostly on MY PART emailing, asking for answers, calling for delivery, and no online tracking of our goods. They delivered 2 days later than contract and I was constantly calling and emailing both the local delivery and your office. I understand the moving business is not what it used to be in many ways, and its an extremely stressful time for people. I just felt trying to get clear answers made me feel like it was an adversarial process not a transparent customer service experience. The "LOST" expression I used because No one would tell me where my stuff was. No tracking on your own site for 17 days.* Kudos to First Class Movers in Tampa who had to deliver the goods and Thomas who was diligent and helpful and honest in telling me where my stuff was. read more

If you are considering this company for your next move. I would reconsider. We moved from Sacramento to Bend Oregon........The first thing they did was toThey misjudge the amount of items we had to move. They tried to stuff the truck, couldn't do it. Broke some items. Tore down a table that shouldn't and was told to them not to tear down. So they brought in another truck......Instead of sending both trucks our way at the same time we had to wait over a month for the second truck with the remainder of our stuff. They said they were waiting for a driver. But I know and they alluded they were waitinghad for another job in the area before they could justify another run to Bend... When we finally got all our stuff. (5 Weeks later) we found all kinds of item. Other than a couple items most was not big stuff. One big thing was my coin set. My father passed away but left each of his children proof sets from birth to his death in 2008. He did this for his grandchildren as well. Those sets are forever gone. When were told we did not need to insure anything unless it was over $4k. They weren't but when we filed a claim their response was they do not cover coins......go figure. One other big item, irreplaceable, not worth much but sentimental value was a photo montage my fiancé did for me with my son before we were married. This is priceless. Not worth claiming because now value. But it is lost forever. I know where I put it. In the same wardrobe box with the coins. The wardrobe box that was loaded on the second truck and stored for over a month........somehow the coins and the wardrobe with the picture didn't make it. (Hmmmmmmm) I am sorry I did not go with a more reputable company and pay a little more. if you are moving out of state I would steer away from this moving company. And if your driver,s name is Dennis..........run! The company's response is just another example of their incompetence. Obviously nothing was fact checked before the representatives response was issued. Now I know why they didn't find any of our lost items. They never checked. It was always lip service. We were not happy with Mother Lode Van and Storage. First of all we could not get the move date we wanted and when we finally agreed on a move date, they called us and changed it. The movers that loaded our stuff were nice and seemed to do an okay job. When we received our stuff, one of our items, a video game machine was completely damaged. They loaded it incorrectly and there was damaged to all but one side of the machine. There were rips and tears all over the machine. I called Mother Lode Van and Storage multiple times and was told I would be receiving a call from Joe. I never received a call from Joe in the claims department. I did finally receive an email from Joe about two weeks later, who sent me a claim form. I filled out the form and sent photos of the damage. I received an email from Joe and was told that I would only be receiving $42 for a video game machine that new would cost about $600. He claimed they only pay sixty cents per lb, which is not what we chose when we filled out the paperwork in the beginning when we signed up with Mother Lode Van and Storage. I was tricked into signing for the sixty cents a pound when they delivered our stuff. I should have questioned it. It has been two months since we moved and Mother Lode Van and Storage has still not sent us the $42 they said they would. Please do not ever use this company. read more

Back in April, 2021, Mother Lode Van and Storage did an excellent job of moving our personal property from our former home in San Jose Ca, to our temporary rental home Roseville Ca, while we waited for our new home in Roseville to be built. At that time, I was asked to, and was more than happy to write a review for a company who was very professional, quoted me a reasonable price, showed up when they said they would, completed the work as promised, and charged me EXACTLY the estimated amount! NOW, 6 months later, our new home is ready, and I called Nathan AGAIN to take us the rest of the way on the last leg of this journey. Nathan once again, showed up on time, quoted us a very reasonable price, and on moving day, his crew arrived when they said they would, loaded the moving van in short order, and within a few hours, ALL of our personal belongings were safe and sound in our new home, the Supervisor collected the EXACT AMOUNT we were quoted for the job, and they went about their way. They are horrible. communication is horrible, their employees don't even know basic company policy and they give you the run around if they don't know the answer. Used this company for a local move. When unloading we needed to stage the master bedroom furniture until the master was prepped and painted. About a week later when installing the furniture we found that the carriage bolts holding the frame together we're not in the female receivers. We couldn't find them anywhere. They also further damaged a chest base leg. The leg had prior damage that I repaired but they broke the leg right off. My complaint on this is they never brought this to my attention. Things happen but how one handles those things is important. Because they did not have the common sense to retain the bolts in the housing where they will end up and for not notifying me of the damage I would not use them again or recommend them to others. read more

We had North American movers move us on February 28, 2020. We moved from Vacaville to Tucson Az. Our driver Marcus was amazing loading the truck. Due to the fact he had to double handle the furniture and boxes. We lived in a small Mobile home community so he had to rent a uhaul and transfer everything from house to uhaul to the big truck. Our delivery was scheduled from February 1 to February 8. Marcus was able to deliver on February 6th. The move went smoothly and Marcus stayed in constant contact with us. Zero stars for customer service resolving issues with damaged goods. Our CUSTOM sofa sectional was damaged due to improper wrapping and no tie down in transport...corner caught on side of crate. Took 2 months for them to offer a resolution, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD PURCHASED ADDITIONAL INSURANCE, and then they insisted on picking up damaged sofa immediately. So 2 months with damaged sofa and now another month at least without any sofa while we order a replacement. Must say I agreed to the pick up before I realized our inconvenience but they were totally inflexible when I ask for more time. They were going to "salvage" the sofa anyway so made no sense. read more

Our great experience started with Denise who gave us a great 'not to exceed' estimate/price and walked us through expectations for the day. The moving team of Kevin, Paul, and Anthony were wonderful. They were scheduled to arrive between 8:00 - 10:00 am and actually arrived at 7:50 am. They handled our furniture with care and gentle hands. Nothing was destroyed!!!!! They were very systematic with their approach and was very patient with us throughout.
