This place is always crazy busy but it's the closest location to our house, so we go here often. The seating is usually limited as this restaurant isn't very big, but we have always found a seat to eat in. Even though there is usually a line up to the door they are so efficient and get you through licitly split! It's never taken us longer than about 10 minutes in line to get our food. It's definitely worth the wait! The staff are always friendly. I always choose the bowl, I love how huge the portion is, and I always take some home. Went to try it out yesterday, luckily it wasn't too busy. Heard this place gets really packed during lunch! Had the chicken burrito with pinto beans, mild salsa, brown rice, lettuce, and corn. The burrito was huge! It was super filling!! Friends ordered the guacamole and chips, it's worth it if you would like something to add to your meal. Friends and I all agreed that chicken is the best. Line up at a food place in a mall? Oh no! who could have imagined that.... Line ups are everywhere and will definitely occur at a venue that offers yummy food for a good value. What makes the difference is service coping with the line up; the service and hospitality at Metrotown is miles better than the one in downtown; I am not sure if they know how to smile at Howe... Often when I am at the Metrotown area, I visit Chipotle and have the Bowl; mixed rice, black beans, half steak half barbacoa, mild and medium sauce and everything else in it...yes the guac is worth the extra, it is a major key!! Last time I visited the Metrotown location, they found out that I was volunteering earlier in the day at a baby salmon fish release at Eagle Creek and they gave me my bowl on the house ! Ordered a quesadilla to go with my burrito bowl. Staff member went on break and ordered one too, and took mine without telling anyone. I ended up finishing my bowl before I realized I wasn't getting the rest of my order. Brought it to their attention and they put another one on, but only after clearing the line. Ended up waiting almost 30 minutes. When I finally got it, it was crumpled hastily into a bag. There wasn't cheese on half of it and it had started burning to the aluminium it was cooked in. No dips or anything, and a hasty "sorry :p" for the wait. They can't even blame it on a rush; it was 8pm on a Monday and the line was never more than 3 or 4 people. The only thing that was said on my receipt was "SORRY" and a smiley face for all the items they've ran out but did not replace or let me know prior to my delivery. First time I've been to a Chipotle and I have to say I'm not impressed. The people working were nice and friendly but the food was so generic..bland! I ordered a chicken burrito and steak burrito. I had a coupon buy one get one free so it came out to $9.40 for 2 so that's a great deal, for 1, not so much. The burrito came with brown/white rice, very bland,no salt, seasoning just blah, pretty much everything was blah, the lettuce, salsa, beans and protein. No cumin, cilantro, chili powder, salt anything, and not even any refried beans. how is it even considered Mexican? It's a bland wrap! At least in the States they have Maui Tacos and Wahoo which are really good. I guess one positive is if your'e really hungry it's quite a substansial size, it was pretty heavy. I've been waiting with excitement for this one to open, because I'm moving to Burnaby soon, and, I like chipotle. After today's visit, however, I won't be coming back unless I see consistent and overwhelming number of reviews that contradicts my experience. I was transferring at metrotown after a night class, and at around 9:45 pm, I was pretty hungry. What better chance to finally try the new location? I got what I always get - salad with usual fixings. The guy gave me the rice and beans. Usually my problem is getting more than I want, because I like minimal amount of those. I didn't say anything this time though, because I was too tired, and thought if I couldn't finish it, I'd have the leftover tomorrow. No such problem. What he gave me was VERY little amount. Like, a generous spoonful with a dinner spoon. But again, that was perfectly okay with me. I was stunned at the next of the assembly line. He gave me two pinches of meat. More precisely, 3 and 4 pieces each. Then he moved on to the next area. I couldn't help asking "is that all for the meat?" He stared at me for about 3 seconds, then said he was sorry, he got carried away (??), and added another precious piece. There was obvious reluctance in his attitude. And definite finality too. The next station was no different. When he accidentally got about a quarter spoon of the corns, he made sure to drop some off. It was almost closing time, and every single item on display was half to almost full in the pan. I'm pretty sure they don't serve leftovers the next day.. or do they? The whole time, it felt like the server didn't want to give me any but resentfully was doing so. The experience was like trying to get a reasonable meal at uncle Scrooge's. The meal I paid $9.40 for was barely coming above the rim of the bowl at the centre. It was certainly not worth it, and I have many more options for that price. I'll probably stick to the next door where it's cheaper, faster and much more reliable to lull the late night hunger, and visit downtown chipotle when I'm in the mood. I'm giving 2 stars because I'm pretty sure I won't get food poisoning. As you can tell, my gripe with them is the meager amount and the obvious reluctance to serve enough. (I'm not even comparing with the chipotles in the US. Downtown is much more generous and more consistent.) This rating doesn't reflect: - that the meat was not even lukewarm. It was near closing time so I won't hold it against them. - the taste. I was too tired to taste any. Second Chipotle in the lower mainland... first one is just off of Robson St downtown... this one in the Metrotown mall complex (an easy walk from the Skytrain station). Ok... it's a chain, so things should be the same from location to location... and as I found out.... that really holds true.... good and bad. The lineup here gets pretty stupid most times... so I've just walked by (yes... I know I could use their website, and put an order in there, and bypass the line, but I'm usually looking to eat right away when I'm hungry and motivated... BAM!). This time, the wife and I were walking by, and the lineup wasn't too bad. So we stopped in. The wife usually gets a bowl, and I get a burrito. The size of these two things is usually the same, just the delivery device is different. I should have looked around and seen that 90% of the people in there were going bowl... and the reason why was that they're generally getting more food... and not just filler... my wife got mostly meat... tons of it! As a value prospect that adds up a little (your trip and findings could vary of course...). My burrito was pretty stacked with meat while the rice and beans were more scarce (hmm... that doesn't add up to higher profits... but makes for a happier me). The food was pretty consistent with the taste and such of the downtown location... things went speedily and checked through to the dining area fast (cash and credit only... no debit.... odd, credit is usually the odd one out. I guess the debit with the PIN code is what they're avoiding to keep the lineups rolling). Ok... back to consistency. EVERY SINGLE TIME I went to the downtown location it looked like a burrito or bowl was scattered over the floor and every table. The place was always a mess. Not a little mess, but a big hot mess. Every time I'd walked by the Metrotown location... I noticed the same thing... a mess... almost every table dirty... garbage station... dirty... condiment / drink section... dirty. And... my time in there... same thing. There are like 5-7 people in front of the service line... one person right next to the check out person was only responsible for asking if I wanted a drink or chips and salsa... could not the register person ask that question and reach back for some chips, and ask the salsa person for a cup of salsa while getting a cup out while waiting for said salsa? After I had finished my meal, and the wife was putting on her finishing touches, a guy came by and cleaned up a table near us (just one)... but there had been 2 other people in and out of that spot before that happened. Yes, it's a fast food type environment... but I know I just paid a higher than A&W price for that food.. and it usually looks a lot better from the window than this place. I think a little more time/money spent on the dining area would go a long ways for people having a better experience here (and the downtown location). Go back again... if the lines dropped and I was ok with the state of the dining room ... yes. The food is decent. Went in on a sunday lunch takeout for our staff, not much of line up compared to the weekdays office crowd. I ordered 6 bowls, some had different detailed ordered, I was slow and precise to tell the servers what/how I wanted the order. I was extremely shocked and disappointed at the servers and service. Again, not much of a line, but they kept rushing, pushing me, and did not even listen carefully to what I wanted /asked for. 1 order was completely wrong and the server just got so mad, and threw it out into the garbage and gave me a nasty look. really are you serious ? This is Chipotle ? I work in the mall at a high end retailer and love to support the Metrotown Mall retailers and shops. I returned to my workplace, with all 6 of the orders, and 3 where wrong, one had extra spicy salsa, one didn't have any sour cream, other had little = total disaster ! most of my staff, did not eat /nor finish their meals, what waste of time and money. Being Mothers day, we where busy the rest of the afternoon - so I did not go back to complain or make a statement about this experience. There has been a lot of hype around Chipotle for quite some time and I never really understood what it was all about until I tried it for myself. The line-ups are often super long but they move much faster compared to other fast food places so there's no need to feel intimidated by the wait time. The trick for eating here is going for the bowl and you can pretty much ask for extra anything besides meat/guacamole free of charge. I was worried the food on the counter might be cold but seems like they're being heated. This place is pretty cool with the various combinations you can create or you can go wild and have double everything that'll result in a giant mountain of food. The company prides itself with it's freshness and it's quite apparent so huge plus for that. They should have anticipated this from their prior experience in Vancouver and made multiple counters and tills instead of the seating space. Anyways you don't get a seat when you go so what's the point of having seating at all. Enough with space and crowd, let's get to the food. I get that they're supoosed to be quick, but when you get pushed through so fast that you miss some of the options, that's just bad customer service. We went to try this out tonight, and the employees were too concerned with getting through the lineup quickly than being very helpful for folks new to the restaurant. Although the food was undeniably delicious, we were rushed through so quickly I felt like I barely had a chance to think, and it was a very stressful experience. And when I asked a question at the front of the food processing line, I was given a different answer than at the end. The burritos are too large to eat properly, and by the end mine had spilled everywhere. Also, I ordered a quesadilla in addition to my burrito and they don't fry it, they steam it, which is rather disgusting IMO. (And they sliced it with a plastic knife!) Their signage is unclear and I was extremely disappointed that for a Mexican restaurant, they didn't offer refried beans. read more
