Came here for the first time not knowing this place was here. Was exploring the hotel since I haven't been in years and the first thing I saw off the escalator was a guy making fudge plus the smell was intoxicating I was literally a big kid in a candy store coming here and didn't know what I wanted. The guy was so patient with me and opened himself up to questions. I ended up w a cookies and crème looking popsicle and a white chocolate mixed w peanut. Utter large cup. It tasted better than a Reese's. Those two items came out to $8.57 and worth every penny. There was so much to choose from including fudge but I had self control. They were both amazing to me although taste is subjective reading the other reviews. You're bound to find something if nothing else watch the guy make fudge. We stumbled upon this place while checking out the shopping center. It smelled amazing inside! The staff all seemed nice and friendly. There's a good variety of chocolate and fudge treats to choose from. We had a variety of treats, from the Swiss covered donette, the chocolate Rice Krispie bar, chocolate covered s'mores, and several of the truffles! They were all really good and fresh tasting! It's not everyday that you see chocolates being made right in front of you. This is a a fun place to be if you're with friends and would like to hang around. They have a great display and instead of buying chocolates on my first visit here I bought myself a cotton candy! Delicious- the way you'd expect cotton candy to be. Extremely good customer service! My order was not delivered when it was supposed to be due to a lazy USPS worker so the owner personally drove out to deliver the gift herself! (Seriously-post office said it was undeliverable when the recipient was home all day and there are zero impediments for delivery.) The fudge is delicious and there is a wonderful variety of flavors to choose from. I will definitely order again and will be visiting the store when I am in KC. read more

I give this place 3.5 stars. It's the better half of meh. It's fine. I probably would have been more impressed if they were making something when we were there. It's an expensive hand made chocolate shop. Chocolates are fine, but nothing amazing. I had a chocolate covered pretzel, chocolate caramel pretzel rod, and piece of fudge. They were all fine. My 2 friends and I purchased coconut haystacks and Peppermint bark. We each took a bite and looked at each other. The haystack were waxy, so hard we couldn't bite it, and tasteless. Unless you have a dietary restriction or are a vegan and don't take your kids to Chip's while staying at Crown Center--you're a bad parent. Although there are places like chips in other tourist malls, this place has a dizzying selection of chocolate and very nice employees willing to give free samples to make a sale. This store had the whole shopping center smelling like paradise and their chocolates did not disappoint. I've never seen a loaf of fudge before longer than any bread and cut into slices thicker too - incredibly decadent. Chips gives off this crazy aroma from the moment you step into the west wing on the second floor of Crown Center - it encompasses the hallway, the escalator, the shops around it - nothing but buttery sugar and chocolate - and even stronger inside the store. It's like chocolate oxygen - it gets the mind whirring like sugar would get the body. The best part of the store, besides eating everything it makes, of course, would have to be the workspace. Everything is made in front of the customers, who get to watch from behind a short partition on the other side of the cash register where the good are sold. I got so close to the man making Texas Praline Pecan fudge I could have leaned over and swiped some - but then that might have irritated the other people watching...there were maybe 15 others in a huddle. The fudge-maker answers any questions you might have - they sort of put on a show for everyone. And after working the fudge into its signature loaf shape it's left to cool before cutting. And the individual servings are simply unprecedented. I'm used to the small rectangles and the fudge is so rich, it always seems enough. But hell, it's America - a small rectangle of anything in this country is practically nothing. So Chips redefined my fudge expectations - it's not your petite grandmothers fudge - it's the hefty nice lady down the street's fudge and I'm not complaining! They offer unique flavors too like the Kansas City Special (a swirl of pecans and vanilla and chocolate fudge), pumpkin fudge, and something called the Kansas City cow pie (it's made to look like cow poop - but I think it's just a blob of their chocolate fudge - it's whimsical). And while the fudge is the sweet of choice, let's not forget their enormous chocolate turtles in every kind of nut known to man, or at least the ones man eats the most. Next time I visit, I'll try their caramel apples - they're expensive but probably worth the $6 bucks. read more

Meh. is right! Took my boys to Crown Center for an exhibit and made Chip's one of our stops. I had heard so much about this place so I had to check it out. I figured with all the hype this place would have been pretty busy. Nope, we were the only ones there. I ended up paying 11 dollars for a slice of fudge and a cookie, an oreo mind you that was dipped in chocolate, so it wasn't anything to write home about. I won't be going back. My mother makes better fudge than this and can feed about 25 people for the price of what I had spent. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not what I had expected. read more

Although I have visited Chip's before I really got a great sampling of their chocolates during their August "Facebook Appreciation Month" where they sent out an offer for a free chocolate every week during the month. Chocolate covered marshmallows exceeded my expectations! Who knew something this simple would taste so great? Chocolate PB Graham was 2 graham crackers with peanut butter in between them, then dipped in chocolate. Tasted just like what you would expect....delicious! Cookie Dough Fudge was a little bit of a let down. The chocolate fudge was good, but there was hardly any cookie dough in it, and the little bit there was had hardly any taste to it. Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge was good though! More chocolate than peanut butter, but I guess if you want more peanut butter then you should get the straight peanut butter fudge! I know they have all of those amazing chocolates, but my favorite thing at Chips is the chocolate chip cookies! I have made many trips there just for the cookies. Once they were even out of them and I asked if they might happen to have any in back and they offered to make a fresh batch just for me! Now that is service!!! Chip's Chocolate Factory is a shop where lots of candy and fudge is made by hand, cooked in copper kettles and mixed on marble slabs. The handmade fudge and candy place. I walk by it every day when taking a break from work. Now and again I stop in and get some. The shop really works on two levels: First, you get to see them making the fudge and candy on the marble slabs. I often walk by while one of the workers is working the hot candy product on the slab, or when the slabs feature a thick sculpted rope of freshly made fudge (chocolate or otherwise). Second, they sell it, and it's rather good. On a recent visit I picked up a block of maple pecan and some chocolate fudge. One thing to note is that they sell the candy by the ounce / pound, but they sell two 8 oz. (?) blocks of fudge for $10. Get the two for $10, it's cheaper overall than the $8 for 8oz. I know they sell other candies and confections in the store, but I've only ever bought the fudge blocks. And then I eat them. And then I feel sick from eating too much sugar too quickly. And then I go back again. I care not, because it is worth it, I feel that I should mention that besides the name, this is not at all like R. Kelly's Chocolate Factory, which I think is pretty good because I'm not exactly sure what he means by "It's like 'Murder She Wrote' / Once I get you out them clothes." I'm pretty sure these lyrics are an overt amorous message, but they could also possibly mean that someone will die mysteriously in Cabot Cove. read more

Today, after walking around the Irish festival, we decided to head into crown center to get some fudge. When I unwrapped my piece (chocolate walnut) there was moldy spots on it.. there were little spots of white fuzz in multiple places on the piece. Then I decided to break a piece off the top because it looked fine and I wanted a taste and there was a black/green mold spot inside... really chip's.. make sure you throw out the old stuff.. you just lost a life long customer. read more

We took my nephew in here around Christmas so he could watch the guys make fudge. Overall, the place has some decent offerings, but nothing really stands out as being exceptionally good here. I likely wouldn't come back here on my own, and only the sweet voice of my nephew wanting to go inside could talk me into returning and buying anything else. read more

I drove down today to Crown Center just to go to the Chop's Chocolate Factory to buy their Peanut Brittle, I bought 4 boxes at a little over 5 dollars a box, well when I got home and tried it I was very disappointed, the flavor is go BUT you have to hunt for the VERY FEW PEANUTS used in this brittle, i learned I should have only bought one box, opened it and tries the brittle and left without buying anymore, guess I'll give away the 3 boxes i now have left over, don't waste your money on this brittle. read more

The guys at Chip's are AMAZING! My sweetheart was staying at the Westin for a confrence, I wanted to surprise him with some goodies to get him through the weekend. The guys at Chip's not only let me order by phone and assisted me with ideas, but catered the contents to his preferences, had it at the front desk BEFORE his arrival and made it all happen IN A MATTER OF 2 HOURS from the time I called!!!!! The staff even went so far as to call me and let me know the goodies had been delivered to the desk. This level of caring is RARE and PRICELESS when you are miles away!!! Spent $17 on 2.5 slices of fudge and a bottle of water. Threw the fudge in the trash after one bite. My review: Overpriced fudge-like product. I won't call it fudge because it doesn't contain butter - and they are proud of that. There's a sign that says "no preservatives, butter, or marshmallow cream." Only problem with that is that fudge is *defined* as sugar, butter, and milk or cream. They use corn syrup instead. That's probably better, right? Unsurprisingly, the fudge was powdery, crumbling, and in general completely unappetizing (and unfudgelike) in texture. Flavor was mediocre with a sugary aftertaste that didn't go away until after I finished the water. Won't return. read more

Will not rate, they are that bad. Seen Chip's on Food Channel today, and boy did they fool the Food Channel folks. I was there in September of 2010 with a friend from Vegas. I was so disappointed. We walk in, there were about 10 other customers, about 4 families. My Friend and I each had a package of candy in our hands, and I was wanting to also purchase Carmelle apple. A few other customer's were standing at the area where the fudge was, a man ask for a sample of the fudge, they said they could not give out samples. He and his family left. My friend and I were still shopping as we watched others leave the store. Then, I went up to purchase my items. Those working there acted as if they were too busy to wait on me. After waiting about 3 minutes and being ignored, I decided to put my items back, my friend did the same and we left. Actually, other left too. I don't care how great their candy and fudge is, if you don't have good customer service, you have nothing to sell. I will never go back due to unfriendly poor customer service. read more
