Sawtelle is full of cool restaurants and shops and ChitChat fits right in. We were waiting for a few stores to open, so we wandered down the street away from the main stretch and found ChitChat. Worth the short trek. It was a cold Sunday morning, but the place was busy with families, Gen Z'ers, young couples and lots of dogs. Out front, two girlfriends were hanging out with their matchas deep in gossip and clearly enjoying the morning. The matcha seemed popular, but I needed something hot. I appreciated that their drink menu had some personality, because a lot of coffee/matcha spots feel like they're copying from the same boring menu. I got the sea salt mocha and it was delicious. Smooth, chocolatey and just salty enough. My wife got some type of cereal milk latte, which sounded epic but was apparently just mid. Still, we didn't regret the walk. ChitChat is a cool little Sawtelle stop with good drinks, good energy and plenty of dog-friendly vibes. Pro tip: Afterwards, swing-by Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery kitty-corner from the coffee shop. Needed a cup of coffee after lunch and walked in here since the coffee bean smell coming from the spot was actually quite good. The folks working behind the counter took my order and my coffee came out relatively quickly. The coffee I got was good and similar to other cafes I had in the area. Cozy spot with coffee and matcha options. Came here with my fiancé for a caffeine pick me up after eating at Sun Nong Dan and there was a short line, but it moved quickly. There's a few outdoor tables but the space is very intimate, so if you need to have a private conversation or take a personal call, it may not be the best place to work/study. Matcha latte was solid as was the latte. They had some fun iced drinks as well as some food. Indoor seating was available but that seemed to be more geared towards people working. The Matcha here is delicious! Service was wonderful, the drinks were ready quickly, even though they were extremely busy. They are very friendly and hard-working here, I love the vibe of the café. Plenty of seating, parking is mostly mirrored. Nice variety on their menu, they have a small selection of snacks available as well. read more

Nice little place on Sawtelle. So if you need a quick caffeine fix, it's there. I got the sea salt mocha with oat milk - it was kinda pricey for what I got. It had the foundation of a good drink, but all the flavors were a little too muted in my opinion. I understand this is a tourist area, so the prices are going to reflect that. But the taste itself was underwhelming. We did go with our friends who have been here before, and they did say that the quality of the drinks have gone down a bit since they had last visited. So take that for what you will. Nice bathrooms, though. read more

Tried their Matcha Latte and it hit the spot on a cold rainy day! Most of the seats were taken on a weekday afternoon, and there was a short line to order. While there were many interesting seasonal drinks, I wanted to try their matcha latte for my first time here. The matcha flavor was earthy and smoooth without being too bitter, and it had a nice balance of sweetness and creaminess. Got here on a Saturday around 11am and there's a small line that moved quickly. I got the matcha chai latte (hot) and my friend got the strawberry matcha latte with macadamia milk. Was slightly disappointed that the matcha chai felt a bit watered down and i could barely taste the matcha flavor. There are some small bites (chia seed pudding - different flavors) and merch as well! Indoor and outdoor seating but does get filled up quickly! read more

Their matcha was disappointing. Love trying new matcha shops, and this one used to be a friend's favorite a few years ago. He was so excited to introduce it to us, but this matcha definitely missed the mark. Ordered a Strawberry Mac Milk Matcha Latte. It didn't taste bad, it just tasted completely diluted with minimal flavor. Compared to the pictures he had taken from years ago, it looked like a completely different drink - he didn't even recognize the flavor from the same drink a few years ago. As I said, disappointing. With Little Tokyo nearby, there are so many better and more authentic matcha shops in reach. Probably won't be returning here. read more

Been seeing this shop whenever we had to drive by and I am very glad to get an opportunity to stop by and try their drinks. There was only one person in line in front of us ordering. Their STRAWBERRY MATCHA is so very good. The strawberry, matcha and milk proportions were great. Real strawberry pieces were in it too. You could see the staff working hard to whisk the matcha power into shape and into the drink through the glass partition. Their ICED LATTE is strong and refreshing. Their CHOCOLATE CROISSANT is delicious and they warmed it up too. Cute merch everywhere. Patrons were enjoying their drinks inside the cute shop and outside where the West LA weather is awesome. CHITCHAT COFFEE AND MATCHA is a couple of blocks north of the Sawtelle madness, as I like to call it, so it was very easy to find parking on the street. read more

Wanted to try the coffee here, so came by on a week day! Was busy (waited in a little line that went by fairly quick) but able to find seating easily. Inside is super cute and there is also outside seating. I tried 4 drinks from here and honestly all were missing the spot. Banana bread latte didn't taste like the name of it. It was lacking flavor and plain. The sea salt mocha was a bit better, but lacking flavor as well. Definitely tasted the salt but I didn't enjoy it. The banana bread matcha latte could have been better as well. I could taste the cinnamon and hint of banana, but the matcha flavor was missing. Tasted too milky. Lastly, got the Spanish latte and this was my favorite from the bunch, although not the best I've had. Thought the flavor profile was solid, but overall I just don't think I enjoy the coffee from this place. The coffee flavor in general could be a lot stronger imo. Parking is metered street except for one street across from the store. No more edible rose petals on the rose matcha latte anymore. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte had no taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but the coffee was decent nonetheless. Highlight was the ham and cheese croissant, it had relish pickles and dabs of mustard inside. Would only go back for a simple latte and the croissant. read more

Came in for a coffee before a work gig and realized I found the best breakfast burrito in LA. WOW, it was amazing. I also got their banana latte which is also delish and so was their Spanish latte. Very friendly baristas so I will be happy to be back. Great outdoor sitting space too. read more

Stopped by one weekend morning to meet up with some friends. It was pretty busy with a decent number of people in line and another group waiting for their drinks. Modest amount of seating inside and outside the shop. Drinks came out relatively quickly despite the crowd. Was excited to try their drinks since I live so closely by but was unfortunately was pretty disappointed. I ordered their matcha latte and it tasted of milk and hardly any matcha. My husband ordered a latte and, again, more milk-forward than espresso-forward. Haven't tried any of their "novel" lattes but if you're not into those and looking for a more prominent matcha or coffee flavor in your drinks you may want to pass on this. It's a good space to sit and "chitchat" but unfortunately will not be coming back because the drinks were honestly underwhelming. read more

Came here because I needed to wait for an appointment but also get a little work done and I found this place on the north end of Sawtelle, and what a little gem this place is. It was pretty busy when i got here but I was still able to. Get a spot to sit and work. Think this place is known for their matcha more than coffee. I ended up trying the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and it wasn't too bad. Not too sweet without it being too bland. Loved the design of the place. Gives it a very 90s look. However the customer service could have been better. Cute small lil cafe on a corner on Sawtelle. Service was friendly and the drinks came out fast. I got the strawberry macadamia milk matcha. Its refreshing and goes down smoothly. The matcha was not powdery at all. The strawberry was also a good flavor and was not too sweet. I would get this again and I recommend for strawberry matcha lovers! The only con is that the matcha is not super strong but either way it is still good. I will be coming back to try the other matcha drinks! read more

Tried the banana bread matcha latte and it just wasn't it. Mostly tasted like cinnamon with a bit of matcha, and the matcha itself wasn't great. It was kind of watery and just mid overall :( This one just missed the mark. Definitely not worth the $7 to $8. The space is really cute and the baristas were super nice, so I really wanted to like it. Just wish the drink lived up to the vibe. read more

Chit Chat Coffee is one of my favorite spots! Their banana bread latte is so good--comforting and just the right amount of sweet. The staff are always incredibly kind, which makes the whole experience even better. You have to try the chia seed puddings--they're the best I've ever had. The tiramisu and pistachio creme flavors (made by virtu.la) are next-level delicious and seriously addicting. Bonus: there's convenient parking in the back inside the apartment building. A total win all around! read more

I got the strawberry matcha and I liked it, although didn't get much matcha flavor at all. They had a lot of yummy pastries. My favorite was the tomato pesto! I also got the ham and cheese croissant it was very fancy and had mustard and pickles in it which personally I don't like either of those, but my friend enjoyed it! Chitchat Coffee & Matcha is a local coffee shop in Sawtelle serving up some unique matcha drinks! There is street parking all around the shop or garage parking with limited spots. They have a good amount of seating, both indoor and outdoors. They have a nice selection of different matcha, coffee, and pastries. Wifey and I got the Banana Bread Matcha Latte and the Strawberry Macadamia Milk Matcha Latte. Both drinks were refreshing with interesting flavor profiles and we could see the staff whisking the matcha in front of us! Overall, we are glad we had the chance to check this spot out. Stopped by middle of the day to a light crowd and friendly staff. The matcha chai caught my eye so I went with that. Unfortunately it wasn't the best choice. The chai has good flavor but it's so strong and overpowering with the spices that you don't taste any of the matcha. And it tasted very watery even though I was asked for which type of milk to be used. Not the first choice I'd make to return for a coffee read more

Chitchat Coffee and Matcha is a super cute local cafe in Sawtelle. It's pretty busy and hard to get a table, but the indoor/outdoor setup is pleasant and breezy on a hot day. Staff were quick and responsive. I got the iced peach matcha latte which is a limited edition summer drink. The peach flavor was very subtle (had to ask for some more sweetener to really bring out the flavor), but the drink is definitely unique and refreshing. It tasted like it was made with oat milk which made the drink a bit lighter. Pretty pricey at $7.50, but would come again to try the rose matcha which is $6.50. read more

To make matters worse, the beverage was poorly made, with coffee spilled all over the saucer. This isn't the first time I've experienced bad service here, but it will definitely be the last.

This morning, I committed $7+ to a Cinnamon Toast Oat Latte that tasted like neither cinnamon, toast, nor latte. What it did taste like was disappointment with a faint whisper of oat milk. I took one sip in my car, paused, and genuinely asked myself if I had forgotten what cinnamon tastes like. I hadn't. The coffee had. So I walked back inside--hot drink in hand, chill in my demeanor--and kindly explained to the person behind the counter that my latte was missing its entire brand identity. He looked at me like I had just described a dream he once had. After a long pause, he revealed their process: they soak the milk overnight in Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Let me repeat that. They. Soak. The. Milk. In cereal. Overnight. I still don't know if that sounds delicious or deeply unhygienic, but I do know this: whatever magic they think is happening overnight... is not happening. Instead of fixing the drink, he poured some syrup into my cup. No idea what kind. Neither did he, apparently. It changed nothing. The latte remained a ghost of a promise. So there I stood, $7 poorer, holding a cup of warm oat milk that had briefly made eye contact with a cinnamon memory. Verdict: Hard pass. Do not recommend.
