Boondocks is easily one of my favorite coffee spots in LA. First impressions, the atmosphere is relaxed, inviting, and communal. I can see why students love being there. Baristas are on point, too. If you don't know exactly what to get, let them guide you. They know their stuff. I've tried the Salted Latik, Cinnamon Turon, Ubeng Ube, and Matchang Matcha. The flavors were subtle, balanced, and thoughtfully executed. They also have all the milk substitutes. Important! Aside from the coffee, my wife and I picked up some of their merch. The fit on the crop tees is perfect and still solid after a few cycles in the wash. This is one of those rare brands you genuinely love to support because they stay true to their mission. Great coffee, rooted in heritage, and for the culture. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

One thing about me is I love an Asian American-inspired coffee shop, so this was right up my alley and perfect since I was at UCLA and in need of a place to grab a coffee with a friend. WHAT I ORDERED: Salted latik latte THE DRINK: The espresso was very well done, and I think the balance with the amount of milk and cream was really good! I will say that the latik syrup was a little subtle (it sweetened my drink perfectly but would have liked a stronger flavor), and I could have done with a little more salt, but not an egregious complaint. SERVICE: Great! Drink didn't take too long. VIBES: This place was gorgeous! The aesthetic was pretty inviting, and I loved the variety of seating, including a comfy couch. I saw lots of people doing work so I assume there's wi-fi, though not all the seating is set up as if it were geared for long work sessions (i.e., low tables, though there were one or two regular tables too). This establishment has no signage so I passed it, but it's in the little walkway area where they have Astroturf with all kinds of games. There is an ada button to access and open both doors, which is wonderful. Most places people just watch me struggle pushing my boy up the ramp trying to hold the door, holding my child's Service, dog,, while maneuvering a wheelchair with just my right hand ha! so yes, this detail needs to be mentioned. Boondock Coffee Roasters is such a special spot, there's real heart in every cup. I stopped by Boondocks early on a Tuesday morning (they open at 8am). When I arrived, there was no line and just a few people working on their laptops. They call out your name when your order is ready and there's a self-serve counter with lids, napkins, and straws. While in Westwood Village for errands, I came across Boondocks Coffee, a Filipino-owned café. It's located on Broxton Ave, part of which has been turned into a pedestrian-only walkway; the café itself is quite spacious with plenty of natural lighting and is shared with a venue spot next door (in fact, their bathroom is inside the venue, so you have to walk a bit to get to it). I ordered the Boonies Einspänner, which came beautifully-presented with, when asked, toasted quinoa on top. The drink was sweet and delivered a powerful punch of espresso, which really woke me up early in the morning. No food is served here (drinks only), but overall, I enjoyed my drink, and I'd happily return to try their actual, Filipino-inspired beverages (e.g. ube/pandan lattes)! read more

Yay they are open a little longer and on Mondays now. I love the incorporation of Filipino flavors in their drinks. Of course I will have to try those first since those are unique. The big ball of salt used is from bohol. And is there a different flavor? Not really but salt in drinks does enhance the flavor. So I think the salted Latik was good. The matcha was good too. I love matcha so I did get the matchang matcha which has vanilla syrup and a matcha foam top. That was a bit pricey but if you are okay with over $9 for an extra matcha treat then definitely this is for you. Next on my list is the hojicha. There are limited indoor seers but they do have the area outside that is open to the public. read more

Very cute shop with lots of comfortable seating. The staff were also lovely and inviting. We went on yesterday, a Saturday, at the recommendation of my friend who lives in LA. We were visiting from Chicago. My son had a hot chocolate which came with a cute design in the froth. I had the vanilla latte that's on the menu under a different name. Sadly, neither of us enjoyed our drinks. I tried mine in the shop and it was lukewarm so I asked for it to be made warmer. The barista was a sweet young lady, and she remade the drink, but second one was also not hot. The milk just wasn't steamed long enough. Then, the flavor was off; it tasted sour. I told my son that I didn't like my drink once we made it to the car, and then he told me he didn't enjoy his either. He said his hot chocolate wasn't even hot. So, I have to chalk this up to the barista not making the drinks well. I'm not sure why the vanilla latte tasted sour, though. So this was a miss for me, but maybe other items are hits - the other reviews seem to indicate that this is so. read more

** I'd actually give this place a 3.5 stars if I could. What a cute little shop! Nice space with comfy seating that doesn't feel cramped to catch up on some work at all! It feels like a casual cafe at a friend's apartment, cozy and modern. Service was friendly and quick! Got the iced Hojichang Hojicha with oat milk and vanilla syrup and the iced Matchang Matcha with whole milk and pandan syrup. Both drinks were pleasant and great without worrying about a sugar crash. They are very subtly sweetened, but they do put out a simple syrup bottle by the lids and straws for you to add if you'd like your drinks more sweet. I wish the syrup flavors were stronger though because I felt that I barely could taste vanilla or pandan in their respective drinks. This is also based on personal preferences, so if you prefer lighter flavorings and sweetened things, it might not be something you think about. - Hojichang Hojicha (iced/oat milk/vanilla): I thought that this drink was okay. It's not bad, but I personally prefer a stronger hojicha flavor. I think it's on the milkier side but this is also my friend's drink and they got it with oat milk. I prefer my lattes with whole milk because I don't like the taste of the milk alternatives. That being said, their oat milk wasn't too overbearing and was a nice pairing. I don't see myself getting this, but it's also not a bad choice if you prefer hojicha. - Matchang Matcha (iced/whole milk/pandan): Nice and smooth! I tasted matcha and pandan but it was both lighter in flavor overall. Again, it's on the milkier side, which I don't prefer but am okay with. I can't say I'd recommend it but I'd order their matcha latte again if I wanted matcha. Overall, it's a cute shop to stop by for a caffeine boost and/or to get some work done. It's on the higher average priced side (maybe not high for LA), so that's for you to decide because I can see this being a hit or miss. It's definitely good for a convenient cafe, but I unfortunately can't see myself coming often. I do want to try their coffee at some point, in case it changes my rating. read more

I was initially under the impression that this place was a pop-up cafe but it looks like they're here to stay which I think is excellent as a UCLA Alum. This is a great addition to the Westwood coffee scene. I got the Westwood Fog last time I was here and found the cold brew to be delicious, but I've also tried the espresso via the Salted Latik and remember that being great as well, smooth and flavorful with the Latik syrup. Seems like a nice casual place to chill at, and service is friendly and fairly quick too. Would recommend if you're in the area! read more

The kind of coffee shop that's indeed designed for work or just stopped by for quick coffee pickup. Not a surprise knowing it's within UCLA area and some smaller offices nearby. You could clearly tell everyone's sitting either doing their own thing or doing work in group. From their menu, I guessed they had some sort of Filipino touch, bringing ube and pandan particularly. The barista was super welcoming even when he spotted me doing 'my grams' as he's putting the pinch of salt on my drink, he offered to slow down so I could capture the moment lol. It's fun to watch him grinding the salt from a rock-alike giant piece, which apparently was sourced from Bohol - a province in Philippines. I got their #1 Signature Salted Latik, their version of Caramel Latte, whose flavor came from caramelized coconut syrup with saltiness hint from the salt I called out earlier. The coffee itself was pretty good and they offered quite many options of alternative milk. When he served the drink, he did ask me to take a sip and told him if the sweetness suited my preference, otherwise he could add more of the syrup. read more

I saw that their a Philippine specialty coffee roaster, and the flavors they are bringing to the table are incredible. I ordered their Salted Latik, which is apparently their infamous Salted Latte" that's been a staple since 2023. Let me tell you, it completely lives up to the hype. It's a perfect blend of a double espresso and your choice of milk with Latik house syrup and dash of Asin tibouk. It is the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and deeply savory. You can tell they put so much thought into the ingredients.To top it all off, the service was amazing. April was my server and she was incredibly welcoming, warm, and passionate about the coffee. I heard great things about boondocks in ktown so I was very excited when they opened up a new location in Westwood just a 5 minute walk away from my apartment. The space is cute and fairly spacious (or at least bigger than I thought). It also has WiFi for those who want to get some work done. The baristas worked quick and efficiently and were very nice. ube hojicha latte with cream top - 10/10 recommend (especially the cream top). Boondocks has been open for quite some time in Westwood village and it has been a hit every single time. The cafe is ideal for the work from home client. The venue is very social. They sell coffee, other beverages, and beer/wine if you come to party. If I'm not mistaken there is an event space or a video set in the rear of the venue as well. We ended up here after realizing we were too early for the Getty, and according to Maps, this was the closest coffee spot so off we went. It's a Filipino-inspired pop-up (hopefully going permanent), and the vibe is super inviting. The decor is cozy, making it a great place to just sit and enjoy a good cup of coffee. Wow this place has some great coffee! I stumbled upon it walking on Broxton and I was excited to check it out. My first and second visit, I ordered the Boondocks Einspanner latte and it was... chefs kiss! Beautiful. I gulped them down before I got back to my car. I brought my brother today, very excited to have him try one for himself. Unfortunately this is where I have to dock a star for the product delivered today. The barista doused them both with cinnamon (is that standard??) and it was so overwhelming that it did not live up to the expectations I set for our experience. I noticed that the barista seemed to try 3 different shakers that were empty and then settled on the one that had the cinnamon, so when she finished the drink, she completely covered both with a thick coat of cinnamon. My recommendation is to try to aim for consistency. Nonetheless, if I ever make my way back to Westwood, i'll definitely come back! The coffee was really good and the place was really nice but I guess the service was a bit weird ? I went in with my best friend and grandpa (he had a dr appt at Westwood) and ordered us drinks. My grandpa has sensitive teeth so he wanted a drink that wasn't hot or cold. I ordered 2 drinks fine but I asked if my grandpas drink could be made like an iced drink with no ice so that it would just be room temperature. When they gave us the drinks they gave us his drink halfway down the cup. I've worked at a coffee shop for a couple of years so I know when people try to "cheat" the system. They think asking for no ice means they'll get "more" drink. However , this wasn't the case, I feel like they could have at least warned like "hey I get he has sensitive teeth but store policy says we can't top it off" or something like that We had never had this happen to him at a coffee shop before so it really bummed him out and lowkey I got secondhand embarrassment. I would have paid the extra two dollars just so he wouldn't receive a drink that looked half full. I get the volume thing, but at least give us a little warning next time read more
