They add hot espresso in the plastic cups first Other coffee shops will add ice and milk first before adding hot espresso
Jessica K.

Came back to give it another try. This time my issue is them adding hot espresso into the plastic cups instead of filling with ice and milk first. I get they need to measure drinks but they can do that regardless of order. So we're just drinking plastic coffee :/ Think I'll avoid here completely moving forward.

The Westwood Fog

On the one hand, expensive and do not take cash. On the other hand, DELICIOUS and lovely staff. The vibe is nice - very tall ceilings, many cute plants, Bob Marley on the stereo. We sat outside for breezes and great people watching. I drank a very tasty iced hojicha drink with ube syrup and oat milk. My friend inhaled her Westwood Fog. Lovely to visit and delicious drinks.

Rebecca N.

I got the ube latte and did not enjoy it - didn't taste like ube at all and overall flavor was lacking, so was very disappointed considering the steep prices. Friend who tried it felt similarly. I've heard their einspanner is better, so maybe I'd try it next time if I was in the area. The shop itself is a really cute, aesthetic space and is good for chatting/studying.

Salted latik latte

One thing about me is I love an Asian American-inspired coffee shop, so this was right up my alley and perfect since I was at UCLA and in need of a place to grab a coffee with a friend. WHAT I ORDERED: Salted latik latte THE DRINK: The espresso was very well done, and I think the balance with the amount of milk and cream was really good! I will say that the latik syrup was a little subtle (it sweetened my drink perfectly but would have liked a stronger flavor), and I could have done with a little more salt, but not an egregious complaint. SERVICE: Great! Drink didn't take too long. VIBES: This place was gorgeous! The aesthetic was pretty inviting, and I loved the variety of seating, including a comfy couch. I saw lots of people doing work so I assume there's wi-fi, though not all the seating is set up as if it were geared for long work sessions (i.e., low tables, though there were one or two regular tables too). Not too loud, and no restrictions on laptops that I saw. BOTTOM LINE: I definitely want to come back to try the other signature drinks - they looked super interesting! And perhaps will have to be a go-to when I'm in Westwood.

Very good coffee and matcha. Boonies einspeinner is my new favorite here. They use good beans and skilled in coffee. a fun signature selection menu. more basic / traditional coffee items such as latte are also very solid here. Good vibes and good study spot. Can get crowded sometimes.

This place is great! The ambiance is very calm and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I went with the Boonies Einspanner, which was really good. Sweet but not too sweet, topped with a vanilla cream top. The cafe itself has a good amount of seating inside, and some options outside. This is definitely a place to try if you are in Westwood.

The Vibe: Flooded with natural light and heavy study energy. It is a UCLA favorite for laptop warriors, though finding a seat is a competitive sport. Look for the subtle Filipino design cues that give the space a unique soul. The Standouts: The Asin Latte is the move. It is perfectly balanced and avoids the sugar-bomb trap. The matcha is also high-quality and whisked well. Elite Tips: Going viral for its Filipino-inspired specialty lattes. It is known as the go-to "third space" for Westwood students. Get here at opening if you actually want a table.

Mais con Yelo & Salted Latik Lattes

This location is a bit tricky to get to by car, since you'll have to find parking in the limited options and then walk over to the walking strip of various storefronts where this coffee shop is located. It's not super common to see Filipino coffee shops so we were excited to check out the menu! I really enjoyed the mais con yelo latte but wish it had just a little bit more corn flavor. The salted latik latte had a more distinct flavor and I liked the balance of salt versus coffee!

Oat and fermented rice milk latte delicious.
Daisy A.

This establishment has no signage so I passed it, but it's in the little walkway area where they have Astroturf with all kinds of games. There is an ada button to access and open both doors, which is wonderful. Most places people just watch me struggle pushing my boy up the ramp trying to hold the door, holding my child's Service, dog,, while maneuvering a wheelchair with just my right hand ha! so yes, this detail needs to be mentioned. The coffee was strong and the perfect temperature for my oat fermented rice latte. Koatji is the new thing and it pairs so well with good coffee. I will return if I'm in the area.

Megan L.

I could tell this coffee shop was going to be good even before I got my drink because of how many people were inside already. I got a latte (whichever one they said was the most popular), and it was quite strong and really well balanced. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted the latte or a matcha because both seemed really popular, but I'm glad I went with the latte because I needed a pick-me-up before my pilates class. I will definitely be back to try their matcha!

Trinny T.

Pricey drinks. My friend ordered a matcha and it was not even full. 1/4 of the cup was empty. I was like wtf that's not acceptable. The shop was all filled though because kids came, ordered 1 drink, and spent all day there. I wouldn't come back for an $8 drink

Latik
Isabel B.

Boondock Coffee Roasters is such a special spot, there's real heart in every cup. The salted latik has a beautifully unique flavor: rich, toasty, and just sweet enough, with layers that feel intentional rather than trendy. What really stood out to me, though, is how deeply the love for Filipino culture is embedded in the coffee. It's not just a theme, it feels genuine, thoughtful, and proudly celebrated. That said, my one downside was the drink balance. There was way too much ice, which left me wishing there was more of that amazing coffee to actually enjoy. The flavor is so good that it deserves to shine without being diluted. Overall, Boondock is doing something meaningful and delicious. I'd absolutely come back, next time just hoping for less ice and more of that incredible salted latik

Matchang Matcha (pandan syrup, whole milk)
Grace L.

Heard good things about Boondocks, so I decided to try it out when I was in the area. Customer service was great, especially the cashier taking my order as he was very friendly! I ordered the Matchang Matcha with pandan syrup, whole milk, and cold foam, and the total was $8.76. I was really excited to try it because I absolutely love pandan and usually don't see many drink shops pairing matcha with pandan! However, I thought the drink fell a bit flat. Both the matcha and pandan flavors were not strong. It honestly tasted like milk with a hint of matcha and pandan. The sweetness and ice level were absolutely perfect, but still, I was slightly disappointed that the flavors didn't come through. While their prices are comparable to most drink shops in LA, I'm not sure I'd come back since it was almost $9, and the drink was lackluster. Hopefully, it was just an off day or maybe their coffee is better. Although, I would consider visiting again because their other drinks are truly unique and worth trying if you're in the area.

The matcha cream was smooth, flavorful, and not too bitter nor dry. Good quality. The sweetness and smooth texture of the coconut water was refreshing and provided just the right amount of sweetness. They also gave me a cup of the coconut water used which was also sweet and refreshing. The barista was also super nice and you can tell that he enjoyed his job and interacting with the customers. Parking is street parking. This experience blew my expectations! I would love to come back and try their other drinks.

The drinks were very good and exactly what you'd expect from a quality café. But the food presentation--wow! It completely exceeded my expectations. We ordered the avocado toast, the breakfast burrito, and the egg on brioche. Every dish was beautifully plated, garnished with edible flowers, and served with a fresh, delicious salad. I honestly wasn't expecting this level of presentation from a café. The portions were generous as well, leaving us completely satisfied. I also tried one of their pastries that reminded me of a cinnamon roll. It was enjoyable, though as a professional baker and pastry chef, I felt the pastries were the one area with room for improvement. In my opinion, they seemed to prioritize elegance and originality over achieving the best texture and flavor. Even so, they were still good, and I appreciated the creativity. I arrived around 6:13 AM, 17 minutes before opening, after dropping a friend off nearby for her work at Trader Joe's in Westwood who starts @6am. Usually when I have an early work call, I go to Bluestone Café because of the ambiance I've experienced before as a former UCLA Student, who is now Recently Graduated Btw. I asked Angel if it was okay to sit and get set up while HE finished opening, I also offered to help if needed, and he was friendly and understanding, and I only set up 1 table because it was out of the kindest of my heart AND he was awesome. Not even 6 minutes passed by but, I could tell he's a solid, smile oriented customer service worker with a big heart. A few minutes later, at 6:22am Carol approached me and told me to leave, after I had just ordered because Angel was treating me with 5 star hospitality! The restaurant was not open yet, AND I completely understand that a business has opening hours, and I would have had no problem waiting outside if that had been communicated respectfully by the "owner." The issue was the way the owner of Bluestone Café, Carol, spoke to me as her claiming she's "the owner" because she knows people in the district? Ok carol. She raised her voice, treated me like I was a problem, and made me feel extremely unwelcome. I left upset because the situation did not need to be handled that way. Angel, however, remained kind and professional, and I want to make clear that this review is not about him. Angel provided excellent customer service. "I was a disturbance," allegedly though to Carol when I asked why she raised her voice at me like that. No where near was I about to counter her asking me to leave originally, just wanted breakfast before my call and I was willing to wait, Angel knows it... but Carol? Man, she's lucky I didn't give a WORSE review than this one. By the way, this is my 3rd yelp review in the last 5 years, so when I gave the option for her not to act so disrespectful, she turned it up 10x. Completely unacceptable to treat anyone that way, and trust me I know the homeless problem in LA is bad. Hello I was in burberrys and a UCLA sweatshirt with my Tumi Backpack labeled "CB" (my initials), and in my 1300 european shoes I bought also known as burberrys... anyways I confusingly and surprisingly stated "I mean should I leave a 1star review?" Because I was astonished that the owner was continually being so disrespectful, but Carol responded by saying "I'm just going to counter it don't worry, we'll handle it"... who's we Carol? Overall, I was very disappointed by how the owner handled the situation. A simple, respectful explanation would have been enough. Instead, I felt disrespected and embarrassed, and I will not be returning to this location because of CAROL. :) However, Angel, and your coworkers, YOU guys are AWESOME for real. Food is good as always.
