Friends kept telling me to try the pizza and I finally did! I ordered a large with the regular crust and the cracker crust tavern style! The original was very good the cheese was mellow and the sauce was robust with a heavy tomato forward flavor! The crust was really good and reminded me of a less heavy Bruno's Crust! The cracker crust was good! Next time I'll ask for it to be cooked a little longer and get less toppings on it. Our office orders from here often. It is by far our favorite pizza in the area. The guys are always nice and quick to get your order out. Today's pizza has been the best yet. We usually order meat on meat. They serve by the slice and they breadsticks too. They have an area you can eat inside too. Heading up to Michigan from Indy to go skiing with our eight-year-old son and he requested pizza. We needed a place close to 31, and Chivos was perfect. I was a little concerned driving into the strip mall, but the constant stream of cars coming through for take-out convinced us. They have a clean dine-in area, but most people come to pick up. They have added tavern style, square cut,thin crust pizza to their menu and have a dine in option. Pretty minimal service, soda in cans and a limited selection of sodas at that. Just as I remembered when we frequented their former location in Saint Joseph, MI! Ordered by phone, ready in 20 mins. Pulled up and there's a friendly man standing outside who points to the sign (I nodded) and then approached my vehicle. Goes inside, comes back with the devine smelling boxes. Great customer service! Chivo's pizza once had a brick and mortar place here in Saint Joseph Michigan , But for some reason Or another moved to South Bend right off the by-pass . When they were in Saint Joe. Thier pizza was the best hands down , hand tossed dough , sweet tomatoe sauce, fresh cheeses , great Italian sausage. Then they moved and broke my heart. So when the misses and I traveled to South Bend I was exited to stop in and get a pizza from my favorite place. I was quickly disappointed, sauce tasted canned, cheese no longer had that salty taste, and the Italian sausage had no flavor. Large pizzas were rather very price I ordered two different kinds and one was literally unedible because one of the ingredients was extremely salty I believe it was ham. Probably a 4.5 stars. We were turned onto Chivos before Covid (BC) and found it to be in our top 3 best pizzas. During Covid we have not been out for meals so the decision to buy a Chivos pizza came after many discussions as both of us work in the Medical industry and see how easily one can get Covid. When I placed the order I inquired as to their precautions and was happy to order. When I arrived, they had an outdoor desk setup with Lysol wipes and Hand sanitizer, as well as an outdoor warming oven BUT I needn't get out and use any of that as they came to the car and confirmed my order. They were masked, gloved and kept 8-10 feet away except to take payment. When pizza was ready they put it in the trunk. I was extremely impressed with their protocols and the pizza? Probably hands down THE BEST pizza ever - great service (including curbside during pandemic). I thought I'd give it another shot and I called on June 19, 2022 for 45 minutes all you got was a busy signal. I left a message with the business and all they said was we were busy. My husband and I went to Chivos for the first time last Saturday and had their special which included sausage and pepperoni. This family run restaurant was clean and the young woman at the counter was polite and friendly and made us feel right at home. The pizza was delicious! This is customer service oriented. We have tried to order from them on two occasions. both times calling 3-5 times over a 30-45 minute time frame. No one has ever answered. I love the pizza here, but I've been very disappointed in the hours. The last two times I have wanted to order, I have been unable to. On Saturdays, they don't open until 4:00, which is frustrating when trying to pick up pizza before evening plans across town. And I've run into the issue where one place lists the closing hours at 9PM and another says 8PM. I've called at 8PM and the phone isn't answered. My husband and I finally had the chance to try Chivo's and we have mixed reviews. We got one normal crust and one thin crust. I loved the thin crust that I got BBQ chicken style. The regular crust with pepperoni and sausage was just okay. We did get it Togo and we live about 20 mins away so that might have had something to do with it, but it was just okay. Not crunchy, too much cheese. Meat was good but overall not the 5 stars I was hoping for. Thinking we need to dine in to give it a solid review. read more
