I purchased an HVAC system from Choates in 2013. Every single summer since that purchase, the unit has had problems. I would call Choates to come out and they would, and of course every time they came out the cost would be at a minimum $150 or more....almost always MUCH MORE. It was always something with this unit. Instead of replacing an obviously faulty unit, Choates would put a band-aid on it. This summer, the unit started leaking through the ceiling and the whole house started shaking violently. Choates told me that I needed a new evaporator coil. After I agreed to take down a bad review off the internet, they agreed to replace the evaporator coil and charge me for the coil only and not for labor since it was within the 10 year warranty for parts. I waited weeks for the evaporator coil to come in, and during that time paid $100s of dollars to put freon in my unit to keep it running during the hottest part of the year. When the coil finally came in, Choates replaced it, charged me approx $1,900 and told me everything was working fine. The next morning, I turn on the AC and it doesn't work. Choates comes out and tells me that there's another problem and unless I fix it, the AC isn't going to work. I asked why this wasn't noticed the day before, and the excuse was...well the technician was focused on replacing the evaporator coil, so he just didn't notice it. Bottom line, I ended up having to pay another $2,000 to get a working AC. In two days, Choates managed to steal almost $4,000 from me. I say steal because of the extremely shady business tactics Choates uses to extract as much money as possible from people who know nothing about HVAC systems and must rely on what the technician tells them. I asked how much it would have cost for me to get a new unit and the technician tells me probably around $7 to $8,000. So, in two days I paid Choates over half of what it would have cost to replace the entire HVAC system. DO NOT USE CHOATES!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! read more

I called Choate's with a few issues concerning my HVAC system and water heater. Scheduling a quote for duct cleaning was easy and when my technician Darren arrived he took great care to listen to my concerns inspect my issues and help me build a plan to to correct those problems and even had my projects scheduled the next week. His customer service and professional knowledge made setting up a plan of action incredibly easy. On the day of my projects my HVAC tech Ian and his team arrived promptly, answered all my questions and did an excellent job performing the work I had requested. Ian and his team were extremely professional and knowledgeable and went above and beyond modifying my HVAC and performing duct cleaning for my home. Even at the end of the long day of being in my extremely hot attic they took the extra time to make sure all aspects of the job were complete and trouble shoot an small issue with my dryer ventilation. I really appreciated the professional job Ian and his team completed and I am very happy with their work. I had a small gas leak coming from my water heater, Josh with Choate's arrived and fixed my issue quickly and efficiently. His expertise and professionalism was excellent at correcting my issue. He advised me of several different options and helped me choose the best one for my situation. Thanks to Darren for helping me get scheduled with all of that on the same day and all of the techs who worked on my plumbing and HVAC systems. I will definitely call Choate's again for any plumbing or HVAC issues, their team was very easy to work with and they took great care to go above and beyond with their customer service. read more

Choate's HVAC projected an image of professionalism that was second to none. I could not have hoped for a better technician than Brandon Brooks. This service/repairman was the epitome of a knowledgeable, polite, and thorough representative. He explained every aspect of the problems associated with my failed, fourteen year old, unit and even gave me options of repair or replacement. We discussed price point value, future years of service, and upgrading from the old system of R22. I am familiar with HVAC systems from working with them in the aircraft overhaul industry in my younger days. This young, U.S. Navy veteran was more than your average tech at troubleshooting and attempting to find the best possible scenario for the customer. This Choate's employee was uniformed, personable, and had an impressive service truck, packed with an immense inventory for any type of repair. You are lucky to have Brandon on board when duty calls. Unfortunately, I need a new HVAC, as expected, and will definitely include them in the bidding based on my pleasant experience with Choate's and Brandon Brooks. Fantastic service from start to finish! Choate's truly believes in top-notch customer service. When my AC started going out, I called six different local companies. Choate's took my issue to heart and sent Devin to my house less than two hours after the initial call. Other companies could not get there until at least the next day to five days later. We were in the middle of a horrid heatwave and there was no time to waste. We chose Choate's that day. From our salesman, Devin, to our installers, Michael and Terrance, and everyone in between, we had the most respectful and caring employees. Devin made sure we stayed cool by bringing us a loaner window unit. Michael and Terrance made sure they got our air running within a few hours of being there on the first install day. Everyone made it their business to make sure we were taken care of each day and to answer any questions we may have had. Our water heater was getting old, so I decided to get three quotes from area plumbing companies to get a replacement. Choates was the first company I called, and they sent out a technician immediately. He was professional and provided the requested estimate. The second company I called never called me back, and the third company provided an estimate $800 higher than Choates. So obviously, I went with Choates. They came in, replaced the heater, and were out the door in two hours. They cleaned up their mess and explained to me a little about the new heater. I have to say I'm very satisifed. Let me add that I was initially hesitant to call a higher "profile" company in the area, for fear their estimate would be high. My experience was it was quality work at a reasonable price. read more

got my for replacing 25 year old system after it was determined I had an issue affecting the heat exchanger. I got a total of 4 quotes: 1ompany quoted only one system with a Wells Fargo project card financing. I got two independents to quote, no finacing, but good price. The Choates guy quoted three carrier systems in a good, better, best format no hard sell. We ended up going with the better a 14.5 seer AC with 80%AFUE heat, They pulled the old out and put the new in in one day. Very nice and professional, di not make a mess. syste has 20 yr war on exchanger 10 mon everything else with 10 year free labor and first year's seasonal service included. Called into choates and i can recall speaking to a lady named Valerie or Mallory (one of thoseshe was very professional, knowledgeable and caring about of situation in our home which was having MAJOR leaks at the time. i know technicians are the strength of the company but i wanted to commend this young woman for being an extraordinary first point of contact in a fine family establishment that has captured Memphians hearts for years ! we love choates and what you all are doing for the community ! please keep it up!! :) read more

I had been seeing the Choate's TV commercials and they came across as a nice, Christian family. Unexpectedly, our A/C unit died and the first company I thought of was Choate's. From the time I called for an appointment to the moment the technicians finished the installation of my new unit, everything was done in a professional and friendly manner. What an amazing experience. Our technician, Damian Holley was incredibly nice, professional and on time. He took care of our air conditioner issue promptly AND he didn't pressure us or up sell us on anything! He shared some options Choates offered but did not put ANY pressure on us to purchase them. Great service. I have the Premium PCA service and I think it's worth it if you have 3 or more units. Tony T. was our technician and as usual, very courteous and professional. Just had my furnaces checked out and they're ready for the cold. Choates has been servicing my HVAC for 6-7 years now and I think a little maintenance now will save me lots of $$ in future repairs. They'll come out in the spring to tune up my AC units for the summer. Again, great service. read more

You can see the high quality of their work and they were able to explain the problems and recommendations in a way that was very easy to understand. We were due to replace our HVAC system in the next few years and we direly needed some maintenance on our duct work. Choates got us a great deal and we pulled the trigger. Very professional service. The new ductwork looks fantastic and my attic went from cramped to a huge open space. They accidentally damaged a wall and a contractor was there the next day to patch it up.
