I'd never heard of this place. Yet, I decided to give it a chance. I am so very happy that I did. The ambiance was quiet, as it was the height of holiday shopping season, yet it was clear that the store was busy fulfilling orders. To my delight, as I patiently waited to be seen, I saw that Gearhart offered scones, chocolate cake slices, cookies, espresso, and, of course, chocolate! They also had large marshmallows: one peppermint and the other, regular marshmallow flavored, to add to one's hot chocolate. There is a display of their bonbons, with a variety of delicious flavors. Gearhart' sells a chocolate mix, which I would like to try at home. Their chocolate cake is decadent and delicious, and their hot chocolate has a deep, full-bodied chocolate flavor. It is also of a thick consistency. The service was polite, professional, and courteous. Their bonbons are also lovely, and they offer interesting flavors. There are also places to sit down for a spell inside. I truly enjoyed my visit to Gearhart's and look forward to returning.

River City Chocolate is the true embodiment of a hidden gem, tucked away between some industrial looking buildings lies an amazing bakery with so much heart. Lucky for me, on this particular rainy Saturday (Sept. 23, 2023), Justin decided to offer croughnuts at Hatch Kitchen at a discount. No matter where I purchase them, the croughnuts are always served hot, buttery, and fresh. The exterior has that perfect croissant flake and crust while the inside is soft and pillowy. My favorite is the vanilla glaze although I haven't tried a flavor I disliked. I've had other croughnuts before, even the acclaimed Dominique Ansel's, but JC's are the best, hands down.

I'm not paying $5.65 for a loaf of bread. There is nothing in that store that you couldn't find at Aldi for a much, MUCH more reasonable price, organic and non-GMO as well. I know as well as anyone that buying local is good for the economy, but I don't like being taken advantage of based on pathos. We all want to support local neighborhood grocery stores and bodegas but that does not give the shopowner the right to charge outrageous prices that only the rich can afford on a regular basis. I was hoping to find a place that would uphold the spirit of the neighborhood grocery, not some bougie place where they try to get rich quick off of each sale. Highly disappointed.
