This is my new favorite place. They don't call themselves a coffee shop, but the coffee is excellent. They really care about their customers. It's a very comfortable environment and you can't beat the chocolates and deserts.

Welcome Gearharts! This has quickly become my favorite cafe and chocolatier. The chocolate is decadent, the pastries sublime, and the drinks rich and wonderful. The first time I came here with my mother, we made the delightful mistake of ordering chocolates, the torte, and drinks. I think we only got through half the torte between the two of us, it was so sumptuous. Better for me, however, as I was to one who got to eat the rest later. My go-to's are the hot chocolate, which is a truly rich bitter drinking chocolate that outclasses its competitors by miles, and the earl gray chocolate, which packs a strong punch and is best nibbled, or the brown butter caramel, which is creamy and flavorful. The staff, Geri & Rae are always friendly and a delight to speak to. They foster a true sense of community. Their baker Jen is lovely and creates amazing pastry. As an extra business, Gearharts is a locally owned and operated small business. They only have this location and one in Charlottesville. Sensory Levels: -Medium volume overhead music -Milk frothier is very loud -Lighting is soft -Color palette is pleasant -No noticeable strong smells Accessibility: -Handicap parking -Wheelchair access -Restrooms -No braille menu -Allergen list

Every single chocolate bar from Chocolate Cravings was soooo good! In fact, I purchased about 6 and had a chocolate "charcuterie" board as a fun way to do a chocolate tasting after dinner with family. Everyone loved the faves of chocolate + raspberry, chocolate + sea salt, and chocolate + smoked almonds. But, what really sets Chocolate Cravings apart are the not so common chocolate combo bars we tried, like Spice Dark Chocolate (with cinnamon, coriander and nutmeg), Chocolate with Lime Salt, and one that really surprised me, Chocolate with Turmeric and Orange! The orange really comes through with just a touch of turmeric. It's now my personal favorite! What I also love is that I can support a local business by a woman entrepreneur who has real skill and passion for her products and customers. Go Cathy!

It's nestled in a passageway at shops in The Hub in Lakeside. I've been to The Hub dozens and dozens of times and I've never seen this hidden gem of a sweet shop! It's been there like 10 years! They broke the "mold" when Chocolate Cravings was born! The moment you enter this diminutive local shop, your olfactory senses are filled with the most amazing aroma! The owner, Cathy, had just taken brownies out of her oven and I thought I had entered chocolate heaven! Cathy is a first class, certified chocolatier, her skills are not to be "truffled" with! I was fascinated by her stories about visiting Costa Rica and touring the cacao bean plantations there. She has taken chocolatier classes here in the states and abroad and she knows her stuff! She has an impressive resumé of certificates and awards from the places she's studied. Chocolate is her passion and her enthusiasm is infectious! She's creates ganache with panache! Her confections are "nonpareil"... just "choc" it up to experience! Her dark chocolate bars are 70% cacao from premium quality chocolate from Colombia. The milk chocolate is 36%. We tasted samples of both and were blown away! Here the chocolates are handmade with local and seasonal ingredients as well! The candy combinations are just as original as the owner! Some of the chocolate barks are: Ginger and Cardamom, Lime and Pink Salt, Pecan Cherry, Pistachio Cranberry, Rice Krispy with sprinkles, S'mores, Raspberry and Mint to name of few... she offers a choice of dark, milk and white chocolate. We stocked up as the prices were quite reasonable! We also bought the most amazing Apricot and Dark Chocolate Hearts and the Robbie the Robot chocolate were as adorable as they were delectable! She also sells chocolate frog treats, caramels, chocolate dipped pretzels, truffles, special seasonal treats like chocolate butterflies, chocolate turkeys, autumn leaves & snowflakes and so much more! Did I mention the Guinness brownies? Many of her items can be found at local restaurants, stores, farmers markets or you can just visit her store. She accepts special orders too! If you are a chocoholic like myself, this is your chocolate Mecca! "Bean" there, done that, going back for more! P.S. Not trying to "milk" the pun game here, but Cathy also has an affinity for puns! I adapted the "mold" one from her son!

Whether you're planning a breakfast or lunch date with a friend, grabbing a coffee, or just need a cozy workspace to get some things done, Brecotea is the place. This bakery offers both sweet and savory treats! I ordered the Bacon Stick, which was to die for-- the cheese and bacon combo just melted in my mouth., The Savory Chicken Sandwich, which now lives rent-free in my head, was perfectly seasoned and toasted to perfection. Finally the Strawberry Danish, which was just okay. The minute I walked through the door, I was greeted by both delicious treats and friendly service. The staff was efficient, attentive, and welcoming. I would highly recommend this bakery and definitely plan to visit again soon!
