I went through the process to find an HVAC company when the heater went out the other day. I called several companies and used Yelp to also send out bids. This was the only company that didn't charge a diagnostic fee as well as scheduling an emergency visit that morning. The technician arrived on time and was fast and efficient. He pointed out immediately what some of the issues were and how to fix. He went into the units in the ceiling and came back after leaving to his truck with replacement parts. Total cost $220 for a shorted fuse and some basic tinkering. It could have been such an expensive job and he even let me know what else it needed and how it would be cheaper for me to go to Home Depot to pick up the small things needed rather than charge for it. I act the same in my business dealings as a Realtor. Unfortunately, it's hard to discover this level of integrity in others no matter the industry. I'm happy to have met an intelligent, service oriented technician who is honest and ethical and working for a company which was extremely responsive and polite on the phone. Met John doing some AC work at my son's house, fixing somebody else's mistakes, and found him to be very knowledgeable, fair and honest - which unfortunately is a rare combination. Had him out to my house in Orange for repairs on my AC and again found him to be incredibly honest - and more than fair. His assistant, Tim, was very courteous and ensured there was no trace they were here (the condenser is in the attic which has blown in insulation that usually makes a mess - because it is accessed in our hallway). My heater broke. I rarely use our HVAC system because it gets fairly cool where we live during the summer and not too cold during the winter so it just sits here rarely used. However, the past couple weeks have been a little too cold for my liking and when I switched on the furnace, it wouldn't turn on. I reached out to the last company that serviced them but they never got back to me and after a week going by, they still haven't contacted. I reached out on yelp and they introduced me to John from Clear Choice and he came by the next day and serviced the furnace with such quickness and fixed the issue. After fixing the furnace I also showed him some other issues I was experiencing with my home regarding the HVAC system and he gave me so many options on how to fix it in a way that was so much more aesthetically pleasing than what I've been previously told and showed. Our air conditioning started going out last Monday afternoon. We had some cool days, and I checked it out to see if it might be a simple electrical connection issue. It wasn't. I did my research on Yelp and Nextdoor and called Clear Choice. John, the owner, picked up the call. He was on a project and came ASAP, which was after hours when most contractors would have gone home and come by a day or two later. He checked it out, found the problem and presented us with options. Our old outside compressor was repairable but noisy on startup, and when running. In our family room we could hear the coolant running up the outside wall to the attic, another obnoxious noise. A prior company had recommended replacing the clunker compressor a few years earlier, so we opted to replace. John worked with us to replace a radiator-like unit in the attic (evap. coil) where the coolant does its work. It was tight in our budget but he helped make it work so we'd have a complete, solid system. While my wife and I were talking with John we're looking at each other and going 'how are we going to finance this'? Magic: he uses a finance company that qualified us over the phone with a minimum amount of information on our part and with a decent interest rate; simple and effortless. John standardly uses an excellent compressor that has an efficiency ratio of 18, significantly higher than our old unit. It has two speeds and runs at a lower speed to maintain the temperature once things are cooled, keeping costs down. I estimate we'll reduce our a/c costs about 25%, perhaps as much as 30%. He later mentioned that the unit can act as a heat pump and if we get forced off of natural gas in the future. It can efficiently heat the house. I'm liking this technology. His two-man crew started the install the next morning and worked into a second day. We were fortunate because they were comfortable days. The compressor is a vertical, thin unit, almost like a flat panel, with two cooling fans. It's attractive and incredibly quiet, quieter that our refrigerator, with no noise of the coolant running up the wall to the attic. Our family room has not had adequate heat or cooling to it in the five years we've lived here, so it's not hospitable in extreme temperatures. John added a new duct directly from the attic HVAC unit into our family room and killed off one of two ducts in the family room that was just not doing anything. This new duct was an afterthought. Don't tell anybody, but he didn't charge us for it. Suddenly, we have an additional living space that we can use all the time. It's a big, helpful change. Thanks, John. Our ceiling started leaking a few days ago. We called plumbers, water restoration specialists, and handy men, no one could identify the source of our leak. We need more good, honest, reliable contractors like John Marshall from Clear Choice! Our general contractor screwed us and took our money so we've been burned. Upon trying to get inspections done, we were told there'd be additional work to correct the installation of our HVAC system. After John saw what they wanted to be done he gave us a fair bid but then he called the inspector and though maybe he just wasn't familiar with an alternative way that a pipe had been installed. After the call John convinced the inspector and that it was in fact to code. Who does that? John could have just kept his mouth shut and made some money but instead he did the fair and honest thing. So we didn't hesitate to hire him to do some additional needed work. He showed up on time and did the work. He did an excellent job. He knows his stuff. He made a little less money than he would had he done the HVAC work that really wasn't needed but I hope karma repays him ten fold. As I said, we need more guys like John Marshall. Let me start by saying ClearChoice is the only choice. This review has been long overdue. I had an issue with my AC back in February and found John via Yelp. The reason I selected him is because he's local and I was hoping to get the same day service. Needless to say that, John stopped by on his way home and diagnosed the problem. He gave me his honest opinion and told me the pros and cons with different options. Alternatively he suggested me to look up used parts online because it's more cost effective given the age of the unit. I found the part and installed myself and it works just like he said. When I reached back out to him and asked how much do I owe him for his time and visits (He came to my house three different times and spent more than 2 hours total between the three visits) and he said nothing because he didn't do the work. I couldn't done this without his expert knowledge and information but yet he didn't want to charge me anything because he didn't physically fixed it. I have my AC guy for life and his name is John. I wish I could give infinity stars. Was visiting my dear grannie in San Dimas. When I got there, it was blazing hot in her house. She and her poor little dog and cat were miserable. My grannie was almost in tears. Her AC had been broken for a week. Another company had come out, taken her money and promised to come back to complete repairs. They ghosted her. I started calling other companies. Everyone told me they were too busy and couldn't help for at least two weeks. That's if they even answered or called me back. I found Clear Choice by chance. Levin and John came back two days after the initial repair because my AC compressor still won't start even after changing out the old capacitor, so I figured I probably needed a new unit. Somehow when they are back to discuss the possibility of a replacement unit, they tried again with my condenser and magically the AC compressor turned on and we got cool air today. They didn't charge me a penny. I mean they didn't have to come back and try a different method with my condenser, but they tried their best to help us to get by with the heatwave today.
