Vibe is nice (whatever that means) but I went here strictly for coffee. Maybe my first mistake since it seems food-focused and there looked like a lot of variety in the baked goods and the menu. Ordered a large iced latte (for $8....it's New York, but come on) and was handed a small. Asked barista if this was the large and they rudely said "yes that's a large 16 oz." when the large 20 oz. iced cups were right in front of my face (I've worked in coffee for a while so I know my cups). Great to see Choice still doing it's thing in the midst of uncertainty. The steak paninis, the croissants, pumpkin loaves and chocolate Bundt cake, the "grilled cheese" with avocado, roasted tomato and gruyere on brioche. As a neighborhood resident for 8 years I've given them chance after chance to provide a decent experience but they botch it 75% of the time. Are the toppings good? Sure. Is the selection diverse? Yes. If you choose from the selection of sandwiches, will you have a 9/10 chance of getting a a sandwich where geysers of aioli erupt out the sides when you bite into it? Yes. Will the sloppy lakes of mayonnaise make your sandwich slip and slide around, escaping to plop on your table and down the front of your work shirt? Yes. Will you float in a fog of mayonnaise-induced nausea after you manage to eat what you can of your sandwich as your digestive system struggles to contend with the acute intake of mayonnaise? Certainly yes. Am I exaggerating? If only! It is fine to have one or even five indulgent, mayonnaise-laden sandwiches on your menu. But truly, every sandwich has far too much mayonnaise with the exception of the vegan one and I know because I work in the area and have tried them all. This place is awesome. You have the take-away meals - a big range of dishes -and coffee shop on Lafayette and around the corner is a charming restaurant with great food. I love brunch, the pancakes are fantastic. The portions are very big, I've actually eaten pancakes that I took home two times. The latte is excellent as well. I like Choice Market. I like their TooGoodToGo program and I like their guava cream cheese croissants and coffee. However I had a bad experience today. I was feeling down so I went to go pick up a grilled cheese sandwich and when I got it the structure of it was just crazy. They use thick brioche bread and really nice cheese but it was just SO MUCH CHEESE. They really lay it on there. And they pile it on the top even? This place is a neighborhood staple. I'd probably give them 4 stars for food, but the extra 5th star is for how impressed i am with how they have managed the COVID pandemic. They remained open, calmly but seriously enforced distancing inside, and continued to serve the clinton hill and bed stuy community! If ever there were a time to support a small, family owned business this is it and I am always happy to give Choice my $$. Prior to COVID i was even going to have them cater a baby shower for me- and the owner couldn't have been nicer while discussing the menu and budget etc. While the event was canceled, i do look forward to having them cater future events when we are all allowed to gather again! I've never tried the hot dinner options, but can vouch for breakfast (egg sandwiches and oatmeal are great) as well as baked goods (lemon poppy load is awesome and the chocolate chip walnut cookie is INSANE). Sorry to say this place is not what it use to be. SMH My last two visits were a disappointment. Ordered quiche and it was so overcooked I sent it back. The chef rudely said we call th e quiches this way. I regularly ate quiches there and they were wonderful which is why I ate there. Went there today and the quiche was cold and veggies not cooked well. Thought I'd give it another chance but with all the options I choose to vote with me feet and won't be going there again. Gentrification is affecting this neighborhood and has beeen for decades and I believe they aRe deliberately giving me crappy food when before they were happy to serve me and provide excellent food and service. I work at a school near by and we used to order it from them all the time, UNTIL NOW. This morning I stopped in after a Starbucks run. They told me to leave my drink outside! So you're telling me. If I had any outside drinks, I need to throw them out or leave them outside while I order food?? Every time I go there's something a bit off :( I asked them to warm up my ham and cheese croissant, and my first bite I realize it's cold in the middle. The steak sandwich I got was very very bland in flavor and the chunks of steak were too big and chewy. The meat didn't taste fresh. I live right around the block though so I will probably try more food anyway. The appearance and smell inside makes me think the food would be better. First time ordering from here! Got it delivered because we were too lazy to go out.. Oops. Two burgers - one with fries, one with roasted potatoes and a "cheesecake brownie" to finish us off. 1. We both ordered the burgers medium - mine was more medium rare, but I like it that way too so it wasn't a big deal. Someone with less of a care-free personality might be a little peeved at this..... Take note. 2. I requested the brie cheese on my burger for a .75 cent upgrade. It wasn't on my burger. Bummer, am I right? I was really excited for that brie. 3. The brioche bun was amazing, the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, crisp, and juicy, and the burger was THICK - basically everything you could ask for. 4. Potatoes were delish (both in wedge and fry form). The wedge come cooked in peppers and onions which wasn't mentioned, but this wasn't an issue for us. 5. Cheesecake brownie, which was almost $5, was kinda disappointing. Very small for what we paid and tossed in a paper bag so a lot of it stuck to the bottom. Tip: maybe stick to hot food for delivery and go in to actual restaurant to enjoy pastries and desserts? The food was good enough that I will definitely be going into the place to see how the atmosphere is and such. Maybe there will be fewer errors when eating in person and not getting delivery? Sadly when I first moved to the area Choice Market was my go to place. However, after being in Bed-Stuy for about 6 years the quality of food has gone down dramatically. I ordered the chicken soup, potatoes and salmon recently and talk about bland(generic) or extremely oily. I have seen and tasted the food going down month after month and I think they need to do better. The owner(s) got to ahead of themselves when trying to expand and forgot about the quality of the food at their primary location. Really unfortunate. I can't really speak about 'in-house' customer service because I normally order on my phone via Seamless. However, I won't be ordering here any longer. The area is changing so no longer can be impressed with the mediocre. read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant/coffee shop, not just in Clinton Hill but in NYC. (I'm actually surprised that I haven't reviewed it before.) I love their sandwiches, burgers, coffee, pastries, you name it and my dogs are huge fans of their dog treats. So much so that they come running whenever they hear a paper bag being opened. The word that I associate the most with Choice Market is "quality" and it's closely followed by "value". The food that they serve is very good and it's always fresh. The recent renovations that they did really help open up the room and the staff are now friendlier than they used to be. (Regulars will know what I'm talking about.) Best muffins ever! All their pastries are phenomenal. The only thing I don't recommend is the bagels- got an everything bagel toasted with butter (my typical NY deli order) and these bagels aren't the standard New York style. It was more French bread consistency- caught me off guard. I will still get all my pastries here and can't wait to try brunch. read more
