DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CHOICE ONE PLUMBING. *** My 79-year-old widowed grandmother hired Choice One Plumbing after winter storms in East Tennessee left her without a working toilet for over a week. She was quoted $12,000 for the repair and signed a contract she could not read. We later learned this price was nearly double what other licensed plumbers in the area estimated for the same work. When I contacted the owner, Robert Rutherford, to ask about the large price discrepancy, he stated that the employee who provided the quote was "from California" and had used California pricing. Robert ultimately agreed to void the original contract and issue a new one, but only after the cost was challenged. The project itself took weeks to complete, with multiple missed return appointments and repeated promises that were not kept. After the job was finally finished, construction debris--including lumber and a ladder--was left throughout the yard. My elderly grandmother attempted to clean it up herself until I contacted the company again. Although I was told someone would come the next morning, no one arrived until I called back later that afternoon. Robert Rutherford portrays himself as a man of his word who puts his customers first, but his conduct--and the conduct of his employees--demonstrates the complete opposite. Overall, the experience was stressful, drawn out, and required constant follow-up to get basic commitments fulfilled. Water line in yard was leaking, spoke with Robert, he said $1500 would be the maximum to fix but cheaper if an easy fix. Donovan came right over and painted on wet spot to dig. Next morning at 10:20 Ryan comes with machine. I showed him paint and wet spot and he started digging 4' from wet spot and dug a massive hole. Never finding line and never dug on the wet spot. Then said he had to go to another job. Gave me a bill for $900 he said they charge $300 an hour. I paid and found 1 leak with shovel and fixed myself that evening but another leak was under the dirt from hole. They send guy with shovel to backfill next day. He look at it and said no way and it was to much to shovel. Robert agreed he would backfill the hole for free and repair other leak. Next morning Ryan calls and said he doesn't work for free and ends up hanging up on me. Robert spoke to him and he came back filled. I dug with shovel and found 2nd leak Ryan fixed in about 15 minutes. Then wanted $600. I paid $300 just to be done with them. I've been a building contractor for 35 years in Virginia. These guys wouldn't last long there. read more

My tenant calls them about a leak under the kitchen sink. It was a FREE estimate. She was going to do it without telling me, she didn't want to call me. After she her the price, she said she needed to call the landlord. She did think it would be this much. This is what he wrote on the estimate to fix it. Found kitchen faucet faulty, causing leak (side sprayer), to age and condition of faucet Recommended replacement of the faucet. Replace old faucet in kitchen with new faucet $797. supplied faucet is $525 No warranty on customer-supplied parts Wow $1,322! First off, a faucet at Lowe's starts at $29 and goes up to $400, not $525 as he quoted. 2nd, the faucet was replaced 1 1/2 years ago with a new one. My maintenance guy found NO Leaks in the faucet. He thinks water is coming from around the sink when water splashes on the sink, so he clacked it and it fixed it, it took just 15 minutes to fix this. This kind of plumber gives plumbers a bad name. I called this company to inspect my septic tanks and well (They don't do well inspection) But said they did. I was quoted $125 fee for a trip charge & to locate the septic tanks. It was told to me that it would be $300 per hour to inspect the septic tanks. The tank was never located, therefore no inspections was performed. Yet they proceeded to charge my credit card an extra $300 for a job not rendered. I have made several attempts to contact this company to get my money refunded with no return calls from the owner "ROBERT" This company lacks the customer service and the courtesy to properly communicate to it's customer. This company is clearly taking advantage of peoples money. My next step will be to report this to the Federal Trade Commission and Attorney General. DON'T DO BUSSINESS WITH THEM!! read more

They lied to me numerous times saying they applied for the city permit which is required. It was almost 2 weeks before they finally got around to finishing the job. I called and was told that someone would be out within the hour and it would be a $99 fee that would go towards the work to be completed which was accurate. The only thing they failed to mention was that it was only for an estimate and they were booked a week out. I originally chose this company because of the reviews, like I always do with services I pay for. It's been 37 days since my original quote was given ($6,920 for two bathroom drain replacements, a tankless water heater, and a replacement boiler drain for my washer). We originally called for a leak in the master and a leak at the washer valve when closed. 37 days later, I still have both leaks and my tankless water heater has been replaced because the wrong size was installed originally. New plumbing was installed for the new water heater and was unbelievably hung with ZIP TIES to ELECTRICAL harnesses, metal PIPING, and around overhead support beams. I sent an email with pictures and grievances to the staffer in the office. I have had no shows, or re-schedules with this company about 6 or 7 times, and they were scheduled to come out two days ago and never showed, (hence the refund I asked for, and to the young lady's credit in the office, I immediately received). Working with the individual plumbers was great, (minus the one who did the original work, we weren't home when the original work was done). Dominick is knowledgeable and good at selling services but wasn't the actual plumber that did the job, so that was disappointing. Charles was honest and sympathetic to my frustrations and did an outstanding job replacing the smaller water heater that was installed by mistake. All in all, communication at this company is non-existent, and working with Robert (the owner) is an absolute nightmare; the excuse was always guys calling in sick, guys quitting, or not having the personnel to come fix things after I had already paid the $6,900. I have emails, phone records, and pictures to confirm everything that I've stated above. It honestly felt like a giant F U every time they didn't answer, they didn't show, or didn't call. The board they have in the office tracking revenue and costs should have a column at the end that says customer satisfaction. It is telling however, that a column exists for "reviews" but not for "satisfaction". The "reviews" column as of today did have 0s all the way down which was also telling. This is hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a company, which is sad when the intent was to hire local. I will probably hire a National company next time for the sheer accountability. I do not recommend this company to anyone for any reason, and the reviews on here are skewed considering the plumbers get paid extra for every 5 star review they solicit. read more

These guys are great. Especially these days when it can be hard to find someone able to come out and do a good job relatively quickly. They were on time and they did their best to make sure the solution they promised is what they delivered. Even when there were some surprises, they still delivered. They had a few moments when they could have taken the opportunity to gouge me too, but they didn't. Honest company that does a quality job, and easy to communicate with. Had an appointment for them to come out Thursday evening between 4 and 6... nobody showed up. I attempted to get ahold of them on the phone Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (no answer, left two messages). Monday I called and got ahold of them and I asked why nobody showed up, the receptionist said they had a few technicians out sick and asked if I'd like to reschedule (which i was about to, I'm reasonable, people get sick). But then I asked why i hadn't even gotten a call that's where she shut me down with an abrupt and honestly rude "would you like to reschedule or not". My toilets stopped working, drains wouldn't drain water, and I was unable to use bathrooms, kitchen or the laundry. I first contacted Kelsey at Choice One. Right away she was very sympathetic and collected all my info. She then put me in touch with the owner, Rob, really fast. Rob called me within the hour and said he'd be out the next day; and said "Don't worry we'll have you fixed up in no time." The next day Rob called to tell me he's on the way; also letting me know some costs up front. Later, I hear him working on the septic and just getting the job done without delay. REALLY nice guy when we met, and he explained how things went wrong and how he's going to fix everything. Thanks to Rob and Kelsey, the repair job was quick and effective; everything works perfect. After consulting with the agent (Fred), we decided it would be best to replace both toilets due to their age (20 Years old). Job was scheduled for the next day. I really wish I could give this company a positive review. I am being understanding that with covid things are a little hectic. With that being said I think a 3 star rating is fair. I set up an appointment for a Friday and was given a 2-4pm window. I had to cancel plans and put things on hold as I really wanted my water leak repaired. I got a call from them around 5pm to let me know they could not make it but could reschedule me for Saturday 2-4pm. I understand with the pandemic things are thought for everyone so I agreed and moved on. Saturday I once again cancel plans and put things on hold as I wait around for the technician to arrive. 5pm rolls by and I decide to contact them. I was told that the company's office should have contacted me to let me know they weren't gonna make it but could try again on Monday. I politely declined and they apologized for the issues , but that didn't stop my pipes from leaking so unfortunately I had to post my review since this is where I found this company. My septic system was backing up, drains not draining. Had a service come out and tell me I needed a permit for a septic repair/replacement from the health department. Drains were working at that point. I live in Blount Co but almost to Sevier. Had the HD environmental come out and he provided me with a list of what needed to happen to correct my problems (field lines, baffles, etc) as well as a recommendation of 4 different companies, Choice One was on his list. I was unable to get anyone but Choice One to work with me, was told I lived too far out, they were too busy, etc. Choice One sent Donovan out the next week and I was immediately confident in his assessment and education of the problems. I did have some problems with scheduling the work, office was very busy but I understood---we had a LOT of rain those few weeks. I just kept calling them. It did take 30 days from the date of the estimate but Donovan did the work and I was really impressed by his communication with me and his dedication to his work. Another thing I noted about Choice One is they did not ask me to text them a picture of the permit. Instead I spoke to someone on the phone! No texting needed. I will call them again. read more

If you are in need of a well, do NOT MISS THIS REVIEW! Sorry it's longer but necessary. I was faced with being without water in two weeks unless I had found someone to drill me a new well. Even though it was an emergency situation, no one in Sevierville I contacted (and it was all of them I could google) would be able to get to me until a month (minimum) till early September. As a last resort I happen to check the BBB (Better Business Bureau) for an accredited business to contact. I was invited to message a company with details in case they were able to help me, so I did...longshot but I was running out of time. What an incredible stroke of luck! I sent the message about 7:15 ish and went on with my efforts actually not expecting to hear anything unless it was sorry too short notice. About 8:30 my phone rang I answered and it was Robert from Choice One Plumbing. He asked me if someone had sent message needing a well installed.I quickly explained and to my complete suprise he said ok, here's what I'm going to do...he asked if he could see if he could do any better on the timeframe and call me back before end of the day? I felt like this person was being genuine and I said sure. It wasn't 2 hours later when I got his call back. We can get you a well drilled in about two weeks he said. You may have a day or two without water but if you will give me this persons no. I will contact them to let them know you are getting the well as quick as possible and maybe he will leave your water on. What? You have got to be kidding! No one does business like this anymore. No one could care less I was going to be OUT OF WATER! This company did. Oh there's more. Next day he was sending me a quote to read over and sign if I agree to hire them. I couldn't get it no matter how many times sent. To stay on schedule he took pic. Text it I got it and it was going to happen. Wait, there's more... that was Tuesday. On Friday he calls me back. They are coming next week to drill the well. I'll keep you posted as to the day. I couldn't believe they were outdoing their own time schedule but they were, and did. The truck rolled in Monday am ONE WEEK AFTER I SENT MESSAGE AND BY DINNER THE WELL WAS DRILLED. That same afternoon trenching done pipes laid. Next day he even brought someone to double ck my power supply so I wouldn't burn my older house down. He said if my hands touch it I'm going to make it right. What a relief, and unbelievable relief. It all turned out well and he installed my complete system to take away the terrible smell, color, and taste that I had always had with the previous well. Tons of things that all work together MAINTENANCE FREE, all I have to do is add salt when one piece gets low every few months. ONCE IT WAS ALL SAID AND DONE I HAVE EXTREMELY CLEAR ODORLESS WATER NOW THATS BETTER THAN I EVER COULD HAVE HOPED FOR. I only thought I'd get rice for system not be able to actually AFFORD IT AT THIS TIME. Everything and more to end a nightmare of an experience I was having before I sent that message. Oh water pressure is now exactly as he said, better than I've ever had here before and it is. All this and the best part of all was I got him to pull the power to the old well ending my terrible experience with that a month earlier than I could have possibly gotten anyone else out to begin. I called the person suppose you disconnect my water and told him I had my well and I had done it for him. Goodbye. Thank God there is still a company who does things the way they should be. Easy from the moment we hired them. An experience we will never forget and probably use ONLY THEM ONCE THE ELECTRICAL AND HVAC DEPT.s are up and running. I do not remember when I have been so pleased at every aspect of a companies ability to do the job I needed it done. To do it right, finish it early, and have nothing but the highest thanks for all jobs done correctly....oh yes and as for customer service could not have been more on point. He answered my calls directly or called bac within minutes. Actually I told my husband I know he's very busy, I don't understand how in the world he does it. But he does. Always available and willing to explain anything I didn't understand or find out answers if he didn't have them. Most prompt customer service we have experienced in years. All I can say is call them, from that moment on tou are in the most capable impressive hands you can be. They will get it done and don't blink! Ha. my water heater went out and i called Choice one plumbing to have them come fix it. I was told a plumber would be able to come the following day within a time frame. I arrived at my house 30 minutes before the time was to start and was told the plumber would be on the way shortly. I waited for 4 hours and the plumber never showed up before the "time frame" ended. I called the office and was told the owner would stop by on his way home. Then the owner called me asked what was going on and i explained to him the issue and he said "oh you just need a thermocouple replaced", I will have a plumber swing by in the morning and do that" (after waiting for over 5 hours for someone to show up...). The next morning a plumber showed up, who seemed more interested my truck and what I do for a living than fixing my water heater. He followed up with the comment that he will likely not be able to fix the water heater. He had went somewhere and gotten a thermocouple that he tried to install but apparently couldn't get it for some reason. He insisted i needed a whole new burner assembly and when i asked if a warranty would cover anything he basically told me to call the manufacture bc he couldnt fix it and left without securing the water heater parts or putting the cover plate back on to protect the wires from being touched... i ended up calling another plumber who came out and looked and said he could replace the "universal" thermocouple with a genuine one but it WOULDNT be covered under warranty bc of the materials that Choice One chose to install. Additionally, because they didnt use genuine parts, any other parts needed wouldnt be under warranty. Eventually the waterheater got fixed by the other plumber. but when i called Choice one to discuss the $430 parts bill, they said they would call manufacturer and get it resolved. then began to ingnore all my of calls.... read more

After a horrible experience with HEP i called Choice based on the reviews i could find. Very glad i did. Talked to the same friendly person each time i called (had to call twice to make sure i had the right appt window), they got to me quickly, showed up on time after communicating about arrival times by phone, gave me an accurate estimate, and Bill the actual plumber was great: polite, quick, efficient, and new what he was doing. We needed a plumber after a guest in our rental cabin complained about water leaking to the downstairs. I was happy that someone at Choice One Plumbing was available when I called first thing in the morning but was not happy with their communication or their final bill. They told me they would be at the residence in an hour and we were supposedly their first stop for the day. Two hours later, they still weren't there and our guest was wondering where they were because they wanted to leave for the day. When I called to see where they were at, they said they were still 15 minutes away. 65 minutes later, the technician called to tell me he couldn't find any leaks and that I owed them $329. Yeah, $329 for 50 minutes of work. In fairness, it is about a 50 minute drive from Marysville to Pigeon Forge, but it would have been nice for the company to tell me it was going to cost this much. Now I know why they were available first thing on a weekday morning. As another reviewer said, they do overcharge for their services. I'll never call them again. read more

We had a persistent leak under our kitchen sink. We called a plumber we had used for years who made three attempts within a week to fix the problem. Unable to reach him for a fourth try on a Saturday morning, we did a search for another plumber and found Choice One who dispatched Steve Greene to the scene of the leak to arrest the problem.By kickoff time of the Tennessee-Georgia Southern football game that afternoon, Steve had eliminated our problem at a reasonable charge, cordially and professionally. Horrible customer service. Requested a quote for a whole house re-pipe, told me upfront cost of $79 for quote. Showed up on time, went over everything (tech was great) actually wanted to move forward with project. However, I never received my quote I paid for. I called the number 3 times 865-896-2770, same rude girl answers phone. I was always polite. Gave her email again just in case the guy wrote it down wrong. Called again she tells me she's walking out and will send it again later. Never received. Call again, this time I give her my work email (just in case), never receive. After 4 weeks you would think maybe after I keep calling they would maybe mail it or something..NO. I call again this last time and the rudeness really came out and I asked since I didn't receive what I paid for to please re-fund my money. At this point, I would never do business with a company that can't even supply a simple written quote and rely on customer facing issues with an unprofessional person answering the phone.
