Very convenient if your down at this end of Kona for the day. They had it all without the crowds. Everything bought was of good quality.

Stopped here for Poke and Spam musabi - very delicious grub. The fish was excellent quality! Enjoyed the freshness of the poke!

Staying in Captain Cook, the closest grocery store to our rental is ChoiceMart. On my first trip in, I was a bit jet lagged and had difficulty navigating the store. My second trip today, I felt more confident in finding what I needed. There are many unique items from all over the world, so a traveler can find some comfort foods. The deli and the growler station seem to be popular. Friendly service is always appreciated by visitors. We'll be back! read more

This is a very decent grocery store. The prices are reasonable relative to the area. They had a decent selection of produce and "natural" foods like rice cakes, etc. We got some great fish here and kept coming back for more. read more

There are a lot of complaints about the pricing but considering where they are located the prices are not bad. I was comparing the green produce to what I pay at Times Kahala and Whole Foods Kahala and they were about equal. Furthermore, the quality was better than what I get at Times. A lot of the produce at Times comes from the mainland and doesn't look anywhere as good as what Choice had. And the fish is head and shoulders better than what I get in Kahala. Y'know, I like this place. It's expensive, but no more so than most places in Hawaii. And you can get some great food there! For hot food, I recommend the shoyu chicken--one of the best versions of this recipe I've ever had. I also like the ahi poke and smoked salmon poke. Very fresh. AND they have Hanalei poi! Living up mauka, this place is a not only a huge convenience but a store I would choose for quality of items (over safeway and walmart). I love to support our local small businesses, and choice mart is no different. This is a great spot to get cuts (and whole) of fresh local caught fish and local big island beef. The produce is one of my favorite things about this super market. They carry a lot of local produce, and I think it rivals KTA's produce. Sometimes even surpasses them. Choice mart also has a number of unique items such as this "everything but the bananas banana bread mix" and unique brands of sparkling cider. The banana bread mix makes some of the best banana bread I've ever tasted! I love choice mart, and it is one of the main pillars that holds up the south Kona community. read more

The variety of goods they carry is amazing, including the healthfood section. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and colorful! I enjoy the fresh island beef and pork ~ and especially the fresh caught local fish! Poke is superb and offers a large variety. Deli has new options every day. I am speaking specifically to the sushi and the poke'. We bought both while visiting. The sushi was better than some I can get on the mainland at a restaurant. The poke' was very good too. Very satisfying and reasonably priced and quite a few to choose from. They sell liquor too, which was a plus. Add a little POG juice from the juice section and you have a tasty drink. read more

Produce is local and fresh and the gals and guys therein know how to handle the fruits and the nuts, and a zuchinni or two also. Meats are OK, fish is very fresh and sometimes 30% cheaper then at Safeway or other places in town since I think they like to use local catch and support the "mountain people" Of course those guys/gals gotta go makai to get and they do catch and not just fish. The rest of the store is not cheap but most of the time they got what you need. The sushi is real good and in the Deli, they got some DAMG GOOD SANDWHICHES THAT ARE FAT AND ALWAYS ONO. Near to the Hostel I stayed at, and had great Poke Bowls, and pretty much anything I needed to cook at the hostel kitchen in Pineapple Park. Lots o beer and wine selection, too. Its near to a great Sunday farmers market, too. If you go on a weekday after work, the line is slow because everyone knows everyone here, so there was lots of "catching up" wiht the families. In some ways I like that small local feel, but in other ways I had to listen to a tourist in front of me b--ch about the long time to be checked out. Chill lady! read more

We've ordered birthday cakes from CM bakery many times and their quality has never disappointed. However this one time must've been an off day for them. I ordered my son's cake 3 days in advance. We chose the theme and my son ordered Red borders rather than the Blue that came with the design. The bakery clerk was quite prompt and wrote specifically "Red Borders" on the order slip, well when we got the cake it was blue. Definitely disappointed, don't get me wrong though, the cake was beautifully made and the blue borders looked great, what i'm disappointed in was who ever decorated it did not pay attention. So my chief complaint would be the attention to detail and instruction. I'm not saying we're not gonna order from CM bakery again, my hope is that they read this and improve their services. read more

Just came back from 2 weeks on the Big Island. The Choice Mart is fine, but their prices are soooo much higher than other Big Island grocery stores, I mean ridiculously high. Also, the service was really quite good, but I was ovecharged twice in 2 separate visits. So, check your receipts. If I lived in S. Kona, I would need to shop at Costco/Target for most things, and get last minute essentials only here. It is nice to have a store in S. Kona, but the prices don't warrant being THAT high. If they lowered the prices, business would definitely increase (as long as they advertised the lowering). This is out of the tourist area, so I cannot comprehend why they are so highly priced. read more

I love this store. I have no idea what the complainers are talking about. It is a quaint little store with very nice helpful employees. I am new to the area and I had no idea it was so close to me. The store and its employees are a delight. I was in this morning having a little problem with the copier and before I knew it a handsome polite manager came to my rescue (before I could ask for it) . Each time I come in it's a pleasant visit. Everyone has always been nice to me and the prices may be a little high but hey we are in Hawaii it cost money to get some of those items here. Talk about price gouging! The only place on the west side that charges 20 cents if you forget a bag. We were going to get a loaf of bread and it was beginning to mildew. An heirloom tomato rang up at $8.50 at check out and the cantaloupe we brought home was slightly mildewed on the outside and appeared ripe. I cut it open the next morning and it was under ripe. This store is not a neighborhood store. A neighborhood store provides to the community without getting them by the short hairs. Shame on the Greenwell family business! read more

Came here for a few basics and lunch. Deli counter staff were quite friendly, and quality of deli counter options was pretty good (i.e. plate lunches, burgers, sandwiches). Wanted to grab lunch at Da Poke Shack in the area, but they ran out of fish by 1:30PM, so got some Poke here. Stayed with the options that had fresh pack dates with locally Hawaiian sourced Ahi - unfortunately, Poke here was not good, but other counter food options were serviceable. read more

Choice Mart has the best fish, meat and local produce of any BI supermarket. Plus it has the best selection of natural foods. It is not the cheapest, but it is clearly the highest quality. read more

I live south of kona, very convenient place to shop. Normaly the cashiers there are very friendly and nice and interact with their customer as they're helping us to check out. but last Wednesday I was with clerk number 140 in Lane 1 at 5:15 p.m. this young man didn't acknowledge any of us in his line as he rang us up and sent us on our way as though he couldn't get us out of there fast enough. Not that he was fast and effecent. He never said anything , not a hello , did you find everything you needed? He was looking around like he did not want to be there and that we were invading his space...This is not good for your company but normally the people at your store are very good! That one young man needs to be talked to. Overall this is normally a happy place to shop. I suppose I was just shocked no one has ever been that rude before. That one needs a happy pill...Keep up the good work that's just one bad out of all the times I go there I will shop there again.
