Christine's Deli is the only deli around, and thankfully it's a really good one. Everything I've tried has been good, but their turkey club is my go-to. The bread is fresh, the ingredients are balanced and generous, and it always hits the spot. When I'm in the mood for something hot instead of a cold sandwich, I order the meatball sub. They make their meatballs from scratch, and you can really taste the love. They can get busy, so the line can be long, and parking is limited in the smallish lot but it's worth it. I'm grateful to have a deli like this nearby. It's definitely become one of my favorite lunch spots. read more

Ordered delivery from here yesterday via DoorDash and had a club on sprouted wheat. I enjoyed it, was good and definitely felt like I was eating healthy. Will probably try to stop by next time, but the parking does look a lil bit tight. read more

We stopped in around 10:00 AM to grab a sandwich on our way to the beach. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't very welcoming. When we entered, loud rap music was playing, which felt a bit out of place for the atmosphere. To their credit, they quickly changed it to some reggae island-style music, which felt more fitting for the setting. We greeted the employee with a friendly "Good morning," but the response felt indifferent, and we got the impression that our presence was more of an inconvenience than appreciated. We weren't expecting anything extraordinary--just a warm greeting and basic customer service. Hawaii is known for its hospitality, so this experience was disappointing. On top of that, the sandwich was very basic for the price. At $18, we expected better quality and value. Based on both the service and the cost, we definitely wouldn't recommend this place and will likely choose another option next time. read more

This place was around the corner from our condo when on the Big Island, It had good reviews so I thought I would try it. This small unassuming spot is a grab n go with no seating. They are NY deli in Hawaii Sandwiches are big and they also have a case with sides such as coleslaw, Mac salad and chips, you can find some desserts too like macadamia not caramel tart, lilikoi macadamia tart. The soup this day was minestrone and if I had another day I would have tried the lasagne! I had an open face tuna melt that can easily feed two people. The shop was manned by one person and it got busy fast and the other ladies came in to help. The melt was great, tuna was made with sweet pickle, celery, onion, carrot and I'd venture to day a lil fresh dill (maybe) .. the sandwich is placed in a countertop oven to brown bread and melt the cheese. Would love the bread to be better toasted but it was still a great sandwich packed with tuna! read more

Amazing Italian sub and macaroni salad. Fresh baked goods today were lemon bars, cheesecake brownie and chantilly cake slice. I got the brownie but was so full from my hoagie I have it waiting. Service was fantastic with the lady making the sandwiches doing her best to answer phones for to go orders and also putting out high quality food. It's small but a perfect spot for a deli. Close to the beach so you can grab and go but it did get a little wet from the dressing but I was fine. For picky folks they may want dressing on the side or none of not eating in awhile. Love this hidden gem tucked away in the local neighborhood. Sandwiches made to order so either call ahead or be patient as your perfect sandwich is made. And definitely grab a dessert for later in your room after a hard day of enjoying the island. read more

was looking for some sandwiches to take on our flight back to the mainland and researched this lil deli also having a double expresso at coffee shop next door. The sandwich maker behind the counter made up a couple of them, an NY Italian w dressing side and a turkey, as we chatted about all sorts of topics (new jersey origins, passionately vocal hilo surfers, no hawaiian body type shame, importing homeless from colorado, living in Hi, etc). We have been wanting to try this Deli for quite sometime. We picked up and brought in last week and it was really good. Stopped there again yesterday and tried 2 other of their amazing sandwiches. They were delicious and the staff was phenomenal. Friendly , outgoing and actually a pleasure to chat w while we waited for our sandwiches. Grabbed lunch to go on our time shares recommendation. Staff and owner were both very polite and engaging. Food was delicious! My husband had a huge tuna melt, I had a veggie sub sandwich which made 2 meals for me as it was giant! We tried the macaroni salad - everything was a hit! Quaint sandwich shop off the beaten path. Had the Italian and the tuna salad both hearty and filling. Great vibe from the staff, very friendly and helpful. I recommend calling ahead, I did not see any tables outside to eat there. Definitely a grab & go place! Loved it! read more

If I could this deli 10 stars I would. Wowser is this place delicious! They support local vendors who use local ingredients whenever possible. I've been in Kona a little over a week and have already been here 3 times. I called in to place order and went and ate my sandwich at the beach! Can't beat that. Staff was super friendly!! Was looking for a good sandwich and was told this is the place! Great customer service from the entrance till our order was ready! Got the Reuben and a berry pie to go. The Reuben was fantastic! Good portions and great flavor! The pie...was disappointing. Being cold probably didn't help any, but overall was underwhelming... Deli was right up the road from where we were staying. The 2 ladies working were very nice and gave us some local recommendations. We had the Rueben and pastrami (special) sandwiches. Both were sooo friggin good. We each had the Minestrone soup....that was awesome. we had the Scandinavian tater salad....another hit. We had the Tuna salad side.....that makes me really want to go back. All were hits for us. Had to use all willpower not to overeat and save some for 2nd lunch. read more

Hands down the best Reuben in town. Chock full of pastrami, piled high between marble rye, special sauce topped with Swiss cheese and smashed down on a panini griddle. Also ordered cauliflower mushroom soup (so good) plus a whole Claussen dill! Ate half the sando for lunch and the rest for dinner. What an East Coast taste memory! read more

Best sandwich of my LIFE!! My husband and I went here while on a trip in Hawaii! We were craving a good toasted sandwich. We stumbled across Christine's Deli online and headed to it! We were hoping for something like home, little did we know it would be the best sandwiches we have ever had!! Holy cow, they make an outstanding sandwich! It was highly recommended. I had the Pastrami n very dessapointing..cant even taste the Mustard or the meat. Sandwich had more lettuce tomatoes n Jalapeno n onion. The front staff was not very friendly, maybe bec i got there 30 min before closing. I asked if she could not put onion n she was not happy about that. My husband got the Philly Cheesesteak, now weve had these 2 sandwiches elsewhere before n ive never had both w lettuce, tomato jalapeno on them. I would not go back n would not reco. read more

Their Italian is great, but my favorite sandwich by far is the Fiddy Fiddy Jilly Philly (aka Deluxe Philly). Best sando I've had since moving to the big island. Tried this place hoping their salads would be good for me to put in my regular places to hit for a quick lunch...NOT as I live in Kailua. First, the person taking orders and cashing people out people never said hi but looked at you in a sarcastic way and rude in my opinion. I ordered a Greek salad and it was the smallest Greek salad I have ever seem I be a lunch salad. It was more like a side salad for 9bucs. You know in one of those small plastic clear containers. I also bought a bag of specialty Hawaii made cereal and a bottle water. For the order I waited 30 minutes I kid you not. I will say there was an order before me that had four sandwiches and the other two orders in front of me was one sandwich each order. Come in they are a sandwich place they should be able to turn out orders faster than that. The order of four sandwiches i oils tell the people were getting very frustrated, rolling their eyes in their head. Apparently they've been standing there while waiting for their sandwiches. I was just about to say just give me my money back but waited. No sorry no thanks you for your order nothing just here's your tiny salad (side salad) and off I went to never go back. read more

I like this deli which is serving traditional New York deli sandwiches. Christine is from New York and she takes pride in providing outstanding food and service. Our menu has a nice assortment of food with a New York flair that should please all palettes. All items are made to order. This all came out to $31.30 after tax, which is almost the same price as their large plate at $35.00, with two fewer scoops of rice. Of the items we ordered, the ube coconut was by far my favorite. I am definitely coming back again for more of this. I've never had ube in this format before, but the mild sweetness of the potato came through, and I enjoyed the chunky mashed potato texture. The next item I liked from the plate was the mac salad. I can't remember the last time I've had mac salad with this much black pepper sprinkled throughout it. The black pepper brought an unexpected amount of heat. Additionally, I thought the noodle were cooked perfectly. In most mac salads that I've had, the macaroni has been cooked far too long, but that was not the case here. I also appreciate that the mac salad was not drowned with mayo, another flaw I commonly see with this dish. Although the poke here is fresh, and the pieces are nicely cut -- all uniform in size, I thought the poke was a bit too salty, and needed to be enjoyed with the rice. The rice itself was a bit on the mushy side. Overall, we had a pretty solid meal at Paakai Poke & Deli. If you're in this area, stop by for the coconut ube -- you won't regret it.

We also felt a little rushed while ordering, which caught us off guard. I was expecting a little more aloha and a little less hurry. Now the malasadas? Oh my goodness... absolutely worth the trip. Call it vanilla, call it custard--I honestly don't care because it was delicious. Soft, fluffy, filled with creamy goodness. I'd happily come back for the malasadas.
