We love this place! The BEST sandwiches on island. Always fresh delicious and generous portions. Excellent customer service. Cute little sandwich shop conveniently located near kona!

This place was around the corner from our condo when on the Big Island, It had good reviews so I thought I would try it. This small unassuming spot is a grab n go with no seating. They are NY deli in Hawaii Sandwiches are big and they also have a case with sides such as coleslaw, Mac salad and chips, you can find some desserts too like macadamia not caramel tart, lilikoi macadamia tart. The soup this day was minestrone and if I had another day I would have tried the lasagne! I had an open face tuna melt that can easily feed two people. The shop was manned by one person and it got busy fast and the other ladies came in to help. The melt was great, tuna was made with sweet pickle, celery, onion, carrot and I'd venture to day a lil fresh dill (maybe) .. the sandwich is placed in a countertop oven to brown bread and melt the cheese. Would love the bread to be better toasted but it was still a great sandwich packed with tuna!

Grabbed lunch to go on our time shares recommendation. Staff and owner were both very polite and engaging. Food was delicious! My husband had a huge tuna melt, I had a veggie sub sandwich which made 2 meals for me as it was giant! We tried the macaroni salad - everything was a hit! If we ever come back to Kona we will definitely pop back in for some more yummy food!

Quaint sandwich shop off the beaten path. Had the Italian and the tuna salad both hearty and filling. Great vibe from the staff, very friendly and helpful. I recommend calling ahead, I did not see any tables outside to eat there. Definitely a grab & go place! Loved it!

    Traditional Italian Sub

If I could this deli 10 stars I would. Wowser is this place delicious! They support local vendors who use local ingredients whenever possible. I've been in Kona a little over a week and have already been here 3 times. I called in to place order and went and ate my sandwich at the beach! Can't beat that. Staff was super friendly!! Great vibe!! I ordered the Traditional New York Italian Sub with Imported Genoa & Mortadella, Provolone, Homemade Roasted Bell Peppers, Pepperonchini, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion with Homemade Italian Dressing on a Hoagie roll. AMAZING! If you are in Kona looking for an amazing sandwich - this is your place!!

My first time to this place and it will not be the last. The price is reasonable for the size of sandwich you get and I enjoyed it.

My wife and I stopped by Paakai Poke & Deli as our first stop from the airport. Between the two of…read moreus, we split a plate with three scoops of poke -- umami ahi, furikake sea salt, and spicy salmon, along with mac salad, coconut ube and white rice with furikake, eel sauce and soy sauce. This all came out to $31.30 after tax, which is almost the same price as their large plate at $35.00, with two fewer scoops of rice. Of the items we ordered, the ube coconut was by far my favorite. I am definitely coming back again for more of this. I've never had ube in this format before, but the mild sweetness of the potato came through, and I enjoyed the chunky mashed potato texture. The next item I liked from the plate was the mac salad. I can't remember the last time I've had mac salad with this much black pepper sprinkled throughout it. The black pepper brought an unexpected amount of heat. Additionally, I thought the noodle were cooked perfectly. In most mac salads that I've had, the macaroni has been cooked far too long, but that was not the case here. I also appreciate that the mac salad was not drowned with mayo, another flaw I commonly see with this dish. Although the poke here is fresh, and the pieces are nicely cut -- all uniform in size, I thought the poke was a bit too salty, and needed to be enjoyed with the rice. The rice itself was a bit on the mushy side. Overall, we had a pretty solid meal at Paakai Poke & Deli. If you're in this area, stop by for the coconut ube -- you won't regret it.

They're known for their sweetbread and malasadas, but they also have hot food and ice cream. We shared one of their pork platters. It was pretty good. Pork was super tender! There were 2 portions of pork, which seemed a lot, but I was left wanting more. We also got one guava malasada. This one is just their flavored sweet bread, coated with sugar, no filling. It was so light, fluffy, and delicious! Not heavy or oily. Dare I say these are better than Leonards in Waikiki? I regretted just getting one, because getting in that line again to order more would take too long. Oh that's another thing... Your mindset needs to be on island time because you will wait more than 10 minutes for your food. The place is small, but the property is huge. All dining is outdoor in their patio and two gazebo-like structures. There are two lines to place your order, which helps with the crowd: one by the main door, and the other by the patio. If you like up by the main door, you'll find all their sweet bread loaves, rolls, and snacks. If you line up by the patio, you'll find their pastry case. Either way, you're doomed to pick up more than you came there for. This place is a must! Make the drive. It's so worth it!

We asked for the custard-filled malasadas and the aunties in front ranted "why everyone calls it custard, it's not custard, it's vanilla" in a very annoyed voice. We also felt a little rushed while ordering, which caught us off guard. I was expecting a little more aloha and a little less hurry. Now the malasadas? Oh my goodness... absolutely worth the trip. Call it vanilla, call it custard--I honestly don't care because it was delicious. Soft, fluffy, filled with creamy goodness. I'd happily come back for the malasadas. Hopefully next time the aloha is as warm as the pastries. Mahalo!
