Over the past year, the quality of their customer service has declined significantly. Phone interactions are abrupt and unprofessional, and on multiple occasions calls were disconnected before my questions were addressed. The most recent interaction the women who answered the phone had a very nasty unprofessional attitude. This can be extremely dishearten if you are in crisis. It creates the impression that customers are an inconvenience rather than a priority. In addition, their selection of 12-step program literature has become extremely limited. Materials that were once consistently available are now difficult to find, which is particularly disappointing for those who depend on these resources. Overall, the level of service and support no longer reflects the standards they once maintained. Based on my recent experiences, I cannot recommend this business and would suggest looking elsewhere for more reliable assistance and access to materials. read more

Please do not go here. I was walking around the Upper East Side a few days ago when I passed by this store. It was 5:40pm, they closed at 6. I just wanted to browse for 5 minutes to kill time before a dinner reservation. I walk in, and immediately the girl working the register says "Just letting you know, I'm closing up now." I said "Oh, I thought you were open until 6?" And she gives me the most condescending smirk and says "You've never worked in retail before, have you?" I immediately left. For a crystal and metaphysical shop, the vibes were so terrible. What a weird thing to say to someone, let alone a customer (and for the record, I have worked multiple jobs in retail). read more

After not receiving merchandise, I filed a dispute and was issued a "charge back" from my credit card company. Choices began to harass me with unprofessional text messages at midnight. I explained the situation to Choices only to receive additional condescending emails a week later. I blocked their number on my phone. So they resorted to unprofessional emails. I have been to the store when I lived in NY. I get my mom AA medallions annually and now my brother. I purchased a medallion 1/10/18 to be delivered to my home in FL. I needed it for my brother's anniversary, 1/21/18. It is now 1/19/18 and I still do not have the medallion. I emailed choices to have them ship me another 1 day shipping and didn't even receive a response. There is no updates on the shipping through the USPS link or their link. read more

This review is for the Tarot reading bait and switch. We had appointments with Amma, only to arrive to be told Amma called in sick and Steven was the reader. 1st no one called us and lets be clear she said reader, since i know they have different types of wizards here, i said; specifically he reads tarot cards? She said yes he is a clairvoyant who reads cards. Well he is against reading cards so lied to from the girl at front desk, but talked so much he baited me into wanting more (to pay more), I only wanted 15 min (and with Amma) .. I ended up getting scammed $60 later! What info I got from him was very vague and leaning towards trying to ask me about the world and assuming all of us are doing something politically? Huh.. Like crap shoot.. They have great selectibooks and I love their serenity prayer swivel rings and cards. The store itself is very cute. Thats why 2 stars instead of 1. Update review that I did not have a problem with someone being sick, i had a problem with not being told this until i arrived and told the person read tarot cards by the girl at the front desk. Lisa from the store wrote to me directly offering me a refund. I wrote her back,now, 4 months ago accepting the refund. When i honestly should not have been charged! I live in the area of this book store and I love passing by on my way home. The smell of the store alone makes me keep coming back; best incense and candle collection. What first attracted me to the store was their advertising of psychic readers. I love tarot, palm reading, astrology and all that jazz and they have a really great selection of books and products. I've had a reading by several of their psychics and so far they're all fantastic. There are not many stores like this in NYC, especially the Upper East Side, and I really love that this gift shop is so close to me. Choices is perfect for browsing cool stuff, getting a funky gift for someone, or spoiling yourself with some unique items. read more

Walked into this bookstore while running an errand in the area. Very cute interior and I'll admit the place does have a flair about it. But I was expecting a wider selection of books. The genre is limited to books about self-help, meditation and wellness so anyone interested in reading about these topics would find this a great place. The greeting cards were very cute - I almost bought one but successfully resisted the temptation :) Oh and their little laughing Buddha statues were adorable (painted bright turquoise) and pretty cheap ($5). read more

I discovered Choices when I lived in New York. I've since moved to Texas and make it a priority to get to the store each time I visit. I stock up on greeting cards, books, etc. They have the best selection of coins. A few months ago, I went to the Houston Intergroup store to buy coins. Their selection was pitiful and the cashier was so nasty. (I won't be going back there) I immediately called Choices and had the best coins delivered in days. And a very pleasant conversation with I believe it was one of the owners. I can't say enough about the selection, the friendliness of the staff and overall experience at this establishment. Choices is the only place I go for any type of recovery or spiritual item. They have everything and their products are beautifully made. They have unique jewelry, gorgeous candles, tons of incense - books, cards and so many other fun things. And a great selection of coins. They have a tarot reader which was a pleasant surprise and I found her to be very good. The staff is so friendly and Jay goes out of his way to make you feel at home. Omg! I will never visit again. The owner is plain rude and arrogant. He kicked me out of the store and said he has to close. I understand that there are store hours but he could have been nice about it. Also, the store was open when I went in. It was a Saturday and I was in the neighborhood so I decided to visit and check out some of the books that I needed to buy. There was another guy who was friendly and asked me about what I needed and he referred me to the section where I could find what I was looking for. I was very excited when I found their site and ordered not only gifts for Christmas gifts but also for my friends 1 year sober anniversary. I had received a phone call from them shortly after I placed my order to let me know that the bracelet I had ordered had been mis priced on their site by a lot but they were still going to honor the price which I thought was very professional and considerate. Then my package came and EVERYTHING CHANGED WITH THIS HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPANY! My package arrived and I opened it to find glass everywhere. The candle I had ordered had broken and one item I had ordered was not what I thought it was going to be. I understand this can happen in shipping and wanted to question the other order, so I called the company right away. The man that answered seemed irritated to begin with that I had a problem. I told him the candle had broken and there was glass everywhere and he asked me how was it possible a candle had glass everywhere. Clearly, he didn't know his own product and so I explained that it was a glass votive candle holder. He said ok. Then I told him I was sure it was my mistake but I had ordered essential oils which I thought I was ordering a set and he told me that was crazy to think I was getting a whole set for $9.95, "the crazy things people say" were his words. At that point, I was furious. YOU SHOULD NEVER TALK TO A CUSTOMER THAT WAY. Regardless, if it was crazy or stupid, you can think that but you never tell the customer that. I told him that and HE HUNG UP ON ME,! HE LITERALLY HUNG UP ON ME! HE IS RUNNING A BUSINESS AND HE HUNG UP ON ME! I called back and he answered the phone saying, "now if you don't yell (which I had never raised my voice) he would help me and what was my problem". I told him that it was unacceptable and unprofessional to talk to someone like that and he again told me that it was crazy to think I would get a set of oils for that price, again you don't tell the customer that. I again told him that and that I was in customer service myself and would never talk to someone like that. He was rude, condescending and truly just a mean spirited human being. He cut me off and said fine he would refund me the money for the candle. THIS BUSINESS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPANY THAT SELLS SPIRITUAL THINGS BUT IS RUN BY A MEAN SPIRITED AND VOLATILE HUMAN BEING. I RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR ON ITEMS OF THIS NATURE AND WAS SO EXCITED TO FIND A NEW PLACE TO ORDER FROM BUT WILL NEVER SPEND A PENNY AT THIS PLACE AGAIN AND RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE ELSE DOES. I was an online customer. Their selection was acceptable. It shipped and was received in under 5 days. They shipped an entirely different item. I called them, their conduct was OK aside from getting 2 different stories (one from a worker, another from the owner) and a lengthy explanation on why it would take another 5 days to replace the item. I would recommend this place if you are able to give the order 2+ weeks time. If you are seeking reliability then I would go elsewhere. read more
