Besides the place in my home town back in the Bay Area this is the best Chinese food I've had. I have tried other restaurants in the area and nothing compares. The employees are always very friendly. It had been 6 months since our last visit to Chop Chop. For years it had always been our first choice for Chinese Take-Out. But things have definitely changed since Loretta is not longer there. We had a simple order of Chow Mein, which was void of any flavor. Someone forgot soy or other main ingredients. All I can say is it was served hot. We also had an order of Pork Fried Rice, but again something was definitely missing. It looked so pale. No seasoning, tasted flat. And last item was asparagus/beef. Wow, it's hard to say anything good about it except it was served hot. The asparagus was old, lacked any flavor, and was overcooked. My suggestion to the owner is to invite Loretta back, or hire back the cooks she had. Review the original recipes that the place was known for. Review with the cooks and their cooking methods. Don't know if they are going cheap on ingredients or using different ones now, but it's not working. Prices have gone up so I would have expected at least the same quality as years past. It will take some real convincing to even give it another chance. Such a shame for a long time, established business to have gone down hill so quickly. read more

The house fried rice was the best out of the 4 items, flavorful and not too greasy. Sweet and sour chicken was atrocious, it was spongy and had no flavor. Our history with Chop Chop goes back to the 1970's and it was our most favorite Chinese food. The food last week was back to being what we had expected over the last 40+ years. The chow mein is still different in that the noodles used to be pan fried prior to being in the chow mein and were somewhat flat and curly. That is what made the chow mein gourmet. The current one has the standard round noodle but does have a very good flavor. The rest of the order was outstanding. The sweet and sour pork and the barbequed pork is the best in the entire area.
