Had an amazing meal at The Chop at the Equinox Hotel. Maxine was our outstanding waitress. The drinks were the best we had during our weekend here in Manchester. The food was perfect. Poke Tuna, French onion soup, baratta and ribeye steak. The best. They made us a fruit covered New York cheesecake that was as good as I have ever had. Chef came out and spoke with us too. Highly recommend this restaurant . Two other tables around us were also raving about there evening here at The Chop. read more

This review is about the breakfast which is a buffet. This is quite possible the worst buffet I have ever encountered. Some highlights: - Totally empty ... bacon gone, pastries gone, fruit gone ... a chef even came and just looked at it, and did nothing - The home fries were actually cold. Not luke warm, I mean cold to the touch - The only egg product they chose to offer was a veggie frittata. Expected so much more from the cache of the Equinox as well as the prices. Should have read reviews. The server was trying and pleasant but was only one seeming to wait on whole room. Too long wait for water, order, and canceled wine while waiting - just changed my mind by then. Meal was fair. Salmon was said to be medium was "well." Chicken on wedge was not grilled as it was named, but probably pulled off the chicken dish on menu.. (baked).. So many other options for Manchester, enjoyed some other meals.. this one not so much. That said - the charcuterie board at Falcon Bar at Equinox very nice. Management needs to take a look at this for the sake of this resort. read more

I had the vegetarian Shepherd's Pie and I loved it. The waiter, Val, was on point as was the rest of the wait staff. The bar tender was grumpy but I won't take off a star since I enjoyed the meal so much. The watermelon salad was amazing, too! read more

Nice spot. Had a great lunch here. Decent service, decent beer selection, plenty of options on the menu and a cozy atmosphere. We will be back for sure. Just had a basic plant burger and it was very good. The atmosphere is just ok. Not bad at all but less charming than other parts of the building. I think this is a reliable place to expect a very good experience. I suspect some of the negative reviews have a lot to do with pricing. I'm so glad we gave this place a chance regardless of sub-par reviews. Atmosphere was cozy and sweet. There was a good mix of people: couples, larger parties, and families. Food was pretty good, service was great, atmosphere was even better. We had 7:00 reservations and were able to be seated right away. The hostess recognized on our reservation that it was our anniversary and wished us a happy anniversary. Drinks were great, appetizers were great, meals were pretty good. All food was garnished and presented beautifully. Scallops were a little under cooked but overall delish. Moral of the story: don't let the negative reviews steer you away!! We had a reservation and checked in 5 mins early (we are guests at the hotel) and were told to wait. The host forgot about us until we reminded him we had already checked in earlier. We were finally seated and the server was disinterested and not friendly at all. The cocktails were flavorful, but not dinner. My husband's steak was tough and I paid over $30 for what was supposed to be grilled butternut squash with mushrooms and asparagus. Well, what I got was a small mound of what looked like microwaved butternut squash with four extremely thin pieces of asparagus. No mushrooms at all. Hardly worth the cost. I was surprised and yet not surprised to see so many negative reviews. My father used to say about my essentially perfect mother 'Any one who doesn't like her it says more about them than her.'. The same is true of restaurant reviews. I don't doubt much of the negative commentary was justified, but I encourage people to try to 'see the glass is half full' whenever possible. Our experience at the Equinox Resort in general and the restaurants in particular was totally wonderful. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us, from giving us a room with the best view in the place overlooking the magnificent church across the street complete with towering white Westminster hourly chimes, to honoring my request to social distance and allowing us to sit in a 'non-standard' location in the restaurant away from the other diners. The menus and size of the 3 restaurants were on the smaller side, but what they lacked in size they made up for in variety, seafood, steaks, chicken, vegan, many with imaginative twists and all prepared perfectly. For example the medium rare burger was exactly medium rare, and the farm fresh eggs over easy were just that. The only comment, not a criticism, is be sure to read the menu carefully, the generously sized bread pudding served with ice cream had a hint of jalapeño in the marinated apple bits toping. Gen Y'ers would probably be tickled by this, but a 'older gentleman' not so much. That being said, after easily removing the 'tangy' apple bit topping there was MORE than enough bread pudding and maple walnut ice cream for two to share and become what I like to refer to us as 'full bellied clams' - lol. Bottom line, highly recommended, and if you end up going there when they are busy, enjoy the lovely ambience of this charming hotel, and use the extra time to indulge in witty repartee, without feeling rushed to eat. This review is for the BAR at the Chop House in the Equinox Hotel. As guests at the hotel we decided to head down to the bar before eating at the Chop House restaurant. Clearly Covid has left it's mark on the employee quality-the first night the bartender was a woman who LITERALLY looked like she rolled out of bed. Hair was a huge scruffy mess and looked dirty, tee shirts and possibly pajama pants. The bar top was loaded with the glasses still in the washing racks-never having been out away behind the bar. There were plastic tubs of stuff around too. The drinks were good and dinner in the restaurant was nice. The salmon dish was amazing (no complaints about your chef!) but the waitstaff kept taking all the food to the wrong tables! Each time something came out it went to the wrong table-comical. The second night we went back to the bar (it was convenient) and there was a male server. We ordered the same drinks again and he kept looking at them menu to know how to make them. Mine had zero alcohol (I'm certain) came in the wrong glass and was terrible. While our hotel stay was nice (sadly grounds were deteriorating) the bar was a big miss. It was also sad to see how disheveled everything was-dirty windows in the room, bathroom ceiling tiles not in correctly, falconry bar and fire pit were closed-and the spa exterior is gross. The outside walls are literally covered in grime- We walked over thinking we may pop in the hot tub, but it was closed and covered over at 5pm. All the outside chairs and tables were in complete disarray, most without cushions or half off. An indoor table left out, no semblance of order or care. This beautiful motel needs someone to champion for it-or sadly it will get passed over. read more

Stayed at the Equinox and the front desk person gave us 2 vouchers for $25 off each breakfast. Well, our server had a puss in her face for starters. The breakfast bill was $78 Insane. Service was ridiculously slow and a table of 4 who arrived 10 minutes after us received their order way before us !! We think the waitress must have made an error but thankful for the vouchers so it cost us $24 and gratuity was automatically added : Our order : I had 2 eggs , choice of a meat ($16) , hubby got the Maryland crab eggs Benedict ($22): 2 coffees and 2 glasses of OJ. I just about NEVER bother with ANY kind of Yelp Review, however, this restaurant experience deserved comment. The Chop House at The Equinox Hotel and Resort was overall pretty awful -- a huge disappointment. It's sad to have to write this because the food itself (when it finally arrived) was actually pretty good -- well executed, well presented, tasty. However, the service was so disastrous that it completely took away from the meal in every way. The place is small -- not that many tables to have to take care of, and they DID insist on very-difficult-to-obtain dinner reservations, so you would think they took overall timing into account.... but No. Waitstaff ranged from ignoring you to non-existent. We sat there for over an hour and a half before entrees came, at which point, it was so late in the evening, that you just ate because you figured you needed some supper before going to bed. Ruined the whole experience. AND for this kind of treatment, we had to pay prices which were unusually high for a non-urban/city restaurant. We've eaten dinner in Manhattan and in Boston for FAR less. Yes -- it was the long weekend in February, but I'm sorry -- it's a hotel in VERMONT -- you KNOW what's coming, and you plan for it. Do not waste your time or money here. We ate lunch here today. First off, I am a local and realize this place caters to tourists, BUT it was awful. We paid $77 for 2 pumpkin salads and 2 old fashions. The pumpkin salad consisted of 1/2 cup ricotta cheese, 8-10 pieces of arugala, 4 one inch pieces of pumpkin and some tasteless squishy things we could not identify. The whole "salad" would have not even taken up a 1 cup measuring cup. The Vermont maple old fashions had zero maple flavor and tasted like gasoline, literally burning your throat. The waitress was as slow as molasses and didn't even come close to cracking a smile once, she was surly and rude. There was only one other table and it took 17 minutes to get her to come take our drink order. Thank goodness we had a gift certificate because I cannot justify spending my hard earned money at this place. I don't mind paying good money for good food, drinks and service. We stayed at The Equinox Resort so we booked at the Chop House, the higher end restaurant within the hotel. The hotel itself is stunning and beautifully designed. Quick side notes about the Equinox: $40ish nightly resort fee. Pool is just open until 6PM weekdays. Check in isn't until 4PM which is too late for an expensive room. Sorry to say I cannot recommend the Chop House. The menu is quite limited (one small page)--I would guess pandemic related which is of course understandable. More importantly, the prices are absurdly high for the portions. For example, I ordered the lentil & mushroom ravioli for $32, which happened to be the lowest priced entree item. When it came, I noticed the bottom of the bowl was barely covered. We laughed-you know the square type raviolis you get at Market Basket? We counted them out with my fork-just FOUR of them in my whole meal along with 6 tiny baby tomatoes. That was the whole meal. Also, bread served complimentary with the meal is 1 small roll a person. Lastly, no meals on the menu come with sides-they are all an extra $11 for basic potatoes, fries, maple glazed carrots, spinach, etc. Even the $40 & up steaks don't include anything but the steak, which I've never experienced even in higher end places. It took quite a while to get our entrees, which again due to staffing I can understand. We are happy to pay for a high end meal that's worth it, but this isn't it. Extremely disappointing! This used to be a really nice hotel, but it's been completely destroyed by recent and current management. And the Chop House is a total joke! The prices are insulting, and what you're getting for those prices is laughable. My children could put together better dishes......and that's not an exaggeration! My wife and I dined at the Chop House to celebrate our anniversary. First impression, it really isn't a separate restaurant. It's simply another room off of the Marsh Tavern. I also noticed right away that they don't really enforce the dress code and there were very young children in the restaurant who were a bit loud for this time of atmosphere. Upon being seated, we learned (for the first time!) that there was a limited menu that evening. We inquired and were told that the kitchen was being renovated and therefore, they had to share a kitchen with the Tavern. This was a bit disappointing as there were a couple items we wanted to order that weren't options. We ended each ordering a filet with a couple sides and then shared dessert. The food was outstanding and our waitress was very good as well. A bit overpriced for the location though. That, the ambiance, and the reduced menu is the only reason this isn't five stars. read more

Came here with my husband because their online menu showed they had Ribeye, but apparently they stopped serving Ribeye weeks ago. It's clear to us now why they stopped because their kitchen does not know how to cook red meat. The pork belly appetizer was so overcooked and had the consistency of leather. Our last night here in Manchester, VT, we wanted a good piece of steak before heading home. We had eaten some pretty awful filet mignon last night so we were looking for a place to redeem our palate. Luckily, the hubsters called for reservations because with the limited tables hidden in the back of the Inns at Equinox Resort, we would be waiting a long time. Walking past the patrons dining at The Marsh Tavern pub (as this is the only way to be seated for dining at the steak house), feels a bit like walking past the "plebs" on your way to where they keep the choice fare. Seemed a bit exclusive and elitist. Also, the fact that there is no menu posted prior to entering the Chop House (and yes, I am the first to post on Yelp thereby the unknown prices are no longer "secret"), was definitely a bit of sticker shock considering the neutral ambiance and fare. We ordered the Colossal Jumbo Shrimp to start (4 pc for $18). The shrimp did smell a bit fishy but with the lemon slices, horseradish and cocktail, it tasted good. Not $18 good but good nonetheless. Next up, my hubs ordered the Rib Eye ($55!) and it was no monster piece but eyeballing it, I'd say probably about 7-8oz maybe. It had a nice char on the outside, but tastewise, we definitely make a better Trader Joe rib eye ourselves which runs us $10, but se la vie! I did not have food envy. I ordered the Friday/Saturday Prime Rib Cut special ($42) and it was tasty but very salty on the crust. I ordered it "medium" but by the time it reached me, it was more of a "medium well". No complaints as I ate most if it save a few bites for our dog. In addition, we also ordered the Baby Seasonal Vegetables ($7) comprised of roasted carrots, radish, asparagus-- seasonal root vegetables if you will. It was yummy but as traditional of most steakhouses, all sides are ordered a la carte. My prime rib also came with a very bland and tough bread pudding. It was left standing mostly uneaten. There was an amush bouche of fried oyster and a pickled kumquat which actually was the star of our evening. I gave this place 3 stars because as steaks around Manchester went, this place does a decent steak and the service is great. The dining room was cozy with a fireplace going and they have a good wine selection. I'd say there were maybe about 10 tables in the main dining area with two curtained off areas that are able to accommodate larger parties of 6-12 it seems. All the meals above plus two glasses of red wine ran us about $165 (not including tip)! Peter Luger prices minus PL quality :-( Perhaps seafood and the other items would be a better choice. I have to compliment the chef as he does impressive things with his food. Having eaten at Marsh Tavern for lunch the previous day, we fell in love with the fare and considered Chop House for that reason. But in the future, we will be dining amongst the plebs! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The one star will go to our wonderful server who was an absolute gem. But from the moment our party entered the door we were discriminated against. The hostess greeted us by informing us the POS system was down and they could only accept cash or room charge. We stood around for a few minutes before we asked if we would be seated and she asked if we were "done figuring out how we would pay for the meal." An odd comment. We were sat and we received information that we were being "disruptive." We were a party of 9 celebrating a bachelorette and we were having lively conversation, along with some other patrons in the dining area. We then we received our meals, quite some time later, and 3/4 chicken dishes were not cooked. We sent the meals back and the manager never came over. Part of of group ended up approaching the host stand to attempt to speak with the manager and it was met with resistance. Eventually the manager came over and pulled 2 members of our party into an alcove separate from our party. He proceeded to dismiss our concerns that we were profiled from the moment we walked in. The manager stated there were "higher priority" customers over our party and told our party we had "no reason to complain" and to "keep this conversation out of sight." We had low expectations after reading other reviews but we rolled into town really late and didn't have much of a choice. We were pleasantly surprised. Cheese fondue, braised short ribs and scallops were all very good. Service was great too. Not much to complain about, maybe the decor, kinda blah. First time in this restaurant during our stay at the equinox and will not go back. The food is not great. The steaks are not tasty and not cooked to perfection as one would expect from the price. The entrees don't come with any sides. The sides start at $12 for a small bowl to be shared by the table - so... everyone has to like all the sides or you will just have a plain tasteless steak or piece of chicken or fish . One of us had salmon and it was ok . We each chose a side to share so 2 steaks 1 fish 3 sides (which were just ok) one bourbon and 2 glasses of wine total bill $354 PS my husband and son ordered steaks medium and they were almost bleeding. We had high expectations for our dinner at The Chop House. Unfortunately, although the atmosphere was quite nice (clean and intimate), the food itself was quite disappointing. The colossal shrimp cocktail was a joke. The 4 shrimp were average size at best and tasteless. The scallops were tough and rubbery, also quite lacking in seasoning. They were placed under a broiler and served. One might expect more for a $40. plus entrée. The baby vegetable side dish ($12.) was equally awful: unidentifiable, tough, inedible weeds that looked like they were ripped out of some garden (probably rejected by the squirrels!). I have two positive comments; the salmon was very tasty and cooked well (with seasoning) and our server was very attentive and seemed genuinely upset when we expressed our dissatisfaction with our meals. We had a fabulous dinner and dining experience at The Chop House. Walid was our waiter and he was exceptional. Personable, funny, and clearly no stranger to relaxed fine dining. The steak was delicious and the sides were exceptional. I would consider coming back just for the sides! I must say, if we had a different waiter our experience may have been completely different. It seems the other staff was casual and overly friendly and chatty with the guests. This is not the experience I prefer when dining out. I would hope that the other wait staff would have read our preference, and maybe the guests they were attending to preferred more personal interaction. Overall it is a more conservative and intimate dining experience with only a few tables available in the library. Highly recommended. read more

NOT a $200 meal by far. My daughter and I ate there last night arriving around 8:30. We had a lovely seat and an excellent waiter. The tables and room were dark though, making it truly hard to see if the food is coming as it should. All went well until our steaks arrived. We both ordered medium, which should have no more than the barest of red dead center, and is usuallly all pink throughout. The steaks were ready to run away they were so rare;as in all red all through.We sent them back, and they were returned to us much the same way a few minutes later. My daughter had cut hers in several places and it was still raw. It went back a 3rd time. That is really bad! We were not trying to be fussy but at this expense it should be cooked correctly.They apparently took mine and put it under a heat lamp, along with our vegetables. When hers came back done correctly, mine was medium well and the au gratin cauliflour was browned on top more from the heat elements. Our meal was delayed and not enjoyed. The experience sucked and the bill was over or about $200. They sent me a glass of wine. It is not a restaurant that cares about the experience and the cost or even what they are sending out of the kitchen. It never should have happened so many times. No manager came by to apologize. No one on the floor seemed aware of the issue. The chef did come apologize, but we did not have an evening or experience worthy of the substantial cost. Surely her dinner should have been comped? Desserts offered? No self respecting restaurant manager should have let this happen. read more
