Maitre d was rarely at her station for inquiring . Finally flagged down a nice young waitress, Alex Who advised us that our reservation was canceled by text. I showed her in my text messages that it was not. And she was able to seat us. Food: Overpriced but great flavor. Sear scallops - great taste. Potatoes au gratin- delicious but $8:00. An absolute shame. A rather pleasant looking restaurant ruined entirely by rude, disregarding customer service and terrible mismanagement. The owner herself mainly perpetrates the rudeness toward customers, with her very own waitstaff constantly apologizing for her attitude. Earlier today, our party of three made a reservation at Chop House on the Bricks for their earliest available seating, at 5pm. We had enjoyed browsing the eclectic and pleasant shops in Thomasville throughout the day and built up quite an appetite. Hungry for steak, we found two main options by way of asking locals -- either Liam's Restaurant or Chop House on the Bricks. Our mistake was to choose the lesser known and least recommended of the two, Chop House, and quickly found out why. As we entered the restaurant at 5pm with our reservations confirmed and a small group of other guests behind us in line, the first thing we heard was a woman in line remarking, "If this god-awful music is going to play the whole time we're here, I'm leaving." The music, an obnoxious blend of sharp concerto classical music and whiny undertones was rather annoying, I thought to myself. An interesting feature for a restaurant that appears to market itself to the more romantic, peace-seeking crowds. I noticed the woman and her husband left after a few more minutes of waiting. But, we remained strong and stood our place in line, which had been moving extremely slow due to a reservation conflict ahead of us. Though two employees were available at the hostess stand, one the blonde-haired owner and the other her plump hostess, both were dealing with the conflict, forcing the entire line to wait for several more minutes. Apparently, the customer had made a reservation, but the hostess was unable to locate it. The customer, visibly upset, was eventually asked to step aside. Finally, our turn to be seated -- or so we thought! The owner promptly escorted our party to her worst tabletop in the fully empty restaurant -- the table literally two inches from the rowdy line we had just stood in for ten minutes and the closest to the front door with freezing arctic air blowing in. We kindly requested to be moved to one of their many open booths, as the restaurant was entirely empty, aside from the four or five guests behind us in line. The owner completely disregarded our request, as did the hostess. When I mentioned the request again, the owner snapped at our party, saying, in a most condensing tone I've ever encountered in the hospitality business, that the restaurant was not empty (yes... it was) and that our reservation was not as important as her other guests. At this point, I was quickly loosing any appetitive I may have had to eat at the Chop House. However, we all had a long day and wanted to avoid having to find another location to eat at. So, the owner pushed our party to the dingy, rear corner of the restaurant they've labeled a "bar" and told us she'd be back with us in a few moments. During the next 15 minutes that passed that we patiently waited, two waitresses came up to us to sincerely apologize for the owner's behavior. They had witnessed the owner's rude outlash and didn't understand why we were forced to wait when any of 10+ booths in the restaurant were unoccupied and ready to be seated. We waited a few more minutes, then watched as the owner walked by us on several occasions and ignored our very existence in her restaurant. Completely fed up, we left after wasting nearly 25 minutes for this rubbish situation to be easily worked out and our party to be seated. ------ A note to the business owner: You are in the hospitality business. You need to quickly learn how to respond to common requests, such as a table reassignment, in a respectful, considerate manner, or else you'll quickly loose all business, as you have today. You appear to have an interesting restaurant, though we were unable to sample your food, but your utter and complete lack of all customer service, clearly stemming from ownership mismanagement, will be your demise. I have now dined at Chophouse on the Bricks at least ten times. I very much enjoy the menu variety and good waitstaff. I saw A post by Eric and thought this is not the same restaurant I know. The owner is incredibly nice spending just the right amount of time thanking patrons. Great beers, good bartender and hearty food. I have had everything on the menu now and think it is a great place to dine. Some dishes stand out over others. The lamb chops and steaks are the better dishes. I enjoy the atmosphere and will eat here again soon. For my personal taste I would work a touch more on presentation. I think that most dishes are really good and would work on a couple small details. read more

I dined at Chop House for the first time last night with a group of five and, overall, the experience was very enjoyable. A word on some of the more critical reviews--be wary of reviewers with only one entry on their profile; anyone can post about a single bad experience, but those who share more often are likelier less exaggerated in their commentary. The restaurant itself has a simple, but effective layout with several booths, tables, and a full bar. High ceilings, beautiful lighting, and simple decor give the restaurant an unassuming, welcoming feel. Noise is a problem in this open arrangement, but we didn't find it to be too much at any point. The menu gave an excellent breadth of options. From the cocktails to the dessert, everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed their meals (go with the filet, the ribeye, or the scallops if you can, these were the best dishes at the table). The pecan pie is to die for, though my chocolate soufflé was excellent as well. The food is flavorful and not overstated with simple, but appealing presentation. Service was quick an never intrusive. There are many people working at any one time in the restaurant, but we never felt accosted or intruded upon in the course of the meal. Some servers were better than others, but that is to be expected anywhere. This is a new restaurant that definitely deserves a try. There are always improvements to be made, especially in a customer service field, but Chop House is on the right track. It is a solid 4.5 stars and for benefit of the doubt, deserves the 5. read more

My girlfriend and I spent our New Year's Eve here with two other couples. We made a reservation several days beforehand, and it was a good thing we did. There was a lively crowd, and they had a live band playing. I suspect this was just for NYE, as we commented on the noise level to our waitress. Because of the openness of the restaurant, noise seemed to carry. That, and everyone was talking over the music. I suspect on other nights the noise level would be more muted. Three of us opted for their take on an Old Fashioned to begin with, and we all loved it. The wine selection was adequate and had a couple of nice surprises from Argentina. For starters, I had their seared scallops, served over some sort of Polenta. The scallops were excellent, though the Polenta felt a little dry. It was still a fantastic dish. As an entree I went with the 8oz filet mignon, medium rare. I will definitely be back for this same dish in the near future. Service was perfect and the atmosphere was wonderful. I am glad that the Tallahassee / Thomasville region finally has a quality non-chain Steakhouse. read more

Chop House on the Bricks is one of my favorite restaurants, even though its a 45 minute drive from my home in Tallahassee. Worth the drive! The bar is great for casual happy hour drinks and the beautiful dining area makes a wonderful special occasion meal. They're big supporters of local farms and other family owned businesses. The food is amazing and the portions are very large compared to other upscale restaurants at the same price point. My favorites were the cornmeal fried oysters, the coffee rubbed filet mignon and the chocolate soufflé. read more

A nice, new, modern American cuisine restaurant, with fresh, local ingredients that offers superb food! I had the New York strip, perfectly cooked and flavored, all the side items complimented it perfectly. My husband had the filet mignon which was also perfection, not a bite left on our plates! We shared the Caesar salad which left out the anchovie taste, and was uniquely presented with a fried egg and crispy bacon bits! A little on the pricier side, but worth every penny. We walked in about 5:45 friday evening and tried our luck without reservations. We got seated NO problem. I had to keep my coat on because I was seated next to a vent that was blowing cold air and it was 50 degrees outside. Service was better than average .. attentive but not overbearing. The cornbread was very dry .. very but I was hungry, sooooooooooooo I ate it anyway. The chowder soup was better than average. The grilled scallops tasty but barely warm. My filet mignon had a nice taste .. not as tender as I would have thought but pretty good. The mixed vegetables got mixed results .... almost everything needed salt and pepper.... in fact EVERYTHING did. Bread pudding ... hmmm ok. Nothing to rave about, just not quite sweet enough. My wife and I met friends for dinner in Thomasville on Saturday decided on Chop House - had to sit at bar because couldn't get last minute reservation (a good sign). Warm and charming place with fantastic food. If you want a true Caesar salad this is the place - was perfect. Between the four of us we had fish, oysters, and filet and everything was delicious. My husband and I just moved to Thomasville. We tried Chop House for the first time tonight and were very dissatisfied. We waited for an hour for our food even though we were the very first guests in the restaurant and several tables had eaten and left before we received our food. There also aren't many options for a pescatarian. Even the chopped salad had bacon. Every side item had bacon or duck fat and the potatoes were so heavily covered in gargonzola and bacon that they were inedible. The manager did comp each of us a cocktail even though we insisted that we didn't want any compensation. It is just our educated opinion that the restaurants downtown are trying way too hard to be unique that they are ruining the flavor of the items, might I add, the very limited number of items they are serving. Do not eat here. This establishment lies about the food they serve. They want their customers to believe that they serve KOBE beef. They do not. There is only one original KOBE beef. They are misleading, do your research. KOBE beef comes from Japan. They are selling 50/50 cross breed of Wagyu and Angus as KOBE Beef. For information purposes, and Angus beef only has to have 5% of the Angus gene in the cow for it to be called Angus. This is misleading. KOBE beef starts at approx 45.00 per ounce, their hamburger that is dry as a block of wood is 16.00. I have contacted them to see if they carry the KOBE certification and did not receive an answer. If someone has certification of that, one would place that information in view of the customers. Also, only 8 restaurants in the United States sell KOBE. In the Restaurant world, this is a serious infraction. They should be ashamed of themselves. I would have given it less than one star if possible. It started with bread on the table that was not only stale but old. The focaccia bread had to be days old and since they were closed on Labor Day and the day before, I would say Saturdays bread for the table. Ordered the Scallops, one was cold on the inside and not cooked all the way through. The corn on the plate was ice cold, it cooled down all the scallops way too fast. Raw scallop in middle, ice cold corn base, so far two items tried, two items failed. Medium Kobe burger was overcooked and dry. No sign of pink on the inside for medium. Dry to the bone Brioche Bun. The bun had no color of yellow, one can only assume that no egg was used in the recipe of the bun. The Buns cake crumb inside didn't look like it was a brioche bun at all. Unable to even eat half of the plate. Potato wedges were mealy. Looks like the Chophouse is on a roll. Three for three. My husband ordered the aged ribeye and had grizzle that should have been trimmed off. This grizzle was found after he tried to eat it. Boy, that's attractive.One can't really complain about a $54.00 steak, can you? He ordered a special beer only to find out that our server didn't know that he was out. Oh, did I forget to tell you that we were the second people in for dinner? But the best part of the night.... was the guest that joined us by the table. He crawled on his 6 legs. Luckily we were able to get our server to help the little guy out. I personally wanted to tell that little guy not to waste his money. Needless to say, this Professional Executive Culinary Chef, would never recommend this establishment, not even to the little six-legged guys' friends. We didn't stay for dessert, I couldn't even imagine how mangled that dessert menu could be. I don't know what the Chophouse wanted to be, but what is needs to learn is whatever plates you decide to serve, do it well, own it, and make sure it is cooked correctly. Husband enjoyed the great selection of craft beers. Made a reservation 4 weeks in advance for table of 6. Was called the week before to confirm and a message was left to call back ASAP to confirm, leaving sense of cancellation without immediate callback. Had to break from my patients to call and confirm. Got another call to confirm the day of and asked if we could do 15 minutes later than planned.....no problem. We were driving in from Tallahassee earlier in the evening and would check in at 7 in the event tables were open earlier. We did just that and was told it would be 8:00 as planned. When arriving back to the restaurant at 8:00, restaurant was packed with no seating to wait for our party of 6. The restaurant is small with booths lining the sides and tables in the middle of the space seating (2) 6 tops, (1) 4 top and (2) 2 tops. When we arrived at 8, we were told by the hostess that our assigned table was paying their check and we would be seated next. Went to the bar to get cocktail for which had zero eye contact with bartenders for 15 mins before getting service. Proceeded back to the front of the house wondering when we would be seated as the only 6 top avail (they took the 2nd 6 top that left and converted to a 4 top as we were there) had just sat down. We inquired how much longer they thought it would be as I was now growing concerned that it could be another hour before a table was available. We were told "not that much longer" by hostess. When asking why they could not convert the open 4 top to a 6 top, we were told "it's a fire hazard". At approx 8:30 a lady in black (who we now know is the owner) approaches us, thanking us for waiting and that after she seats the waiting 7:45 6 top, we will be next. WAIT, WHAT???? It is now 8:30 and there is another party of 6 in front of us and only 1 six top table in the house???? As we are still standing, she offers our party no seating while we wait, not even a glass of water. My husband is now irritated and asks her what she is going to do for us while we wait...she says "make you happy"....HOW????? By this time it is 8:45, we are 45 mins from home, which is celebrating FSU graduation and the holidays and we still have not had dinner. This meal was planned as a Christmas Celebration for my son's gf that was visiting from Atl and would not be with us for the holidays. We decide to leave. The owner told my husband he was attacking her for simply pointing out her lack of concern with us having to stand and wait for God knows how long. We leave in the pouring rain, heading back to Tallahassee at 8:45 on a Friday night praying we could find a nice restaurant to accommodate a party of 6 at such short notice. When I got in the car to leave, my phone rings and it's the owner beginning the conversation with insults hurled at my husband. I told her I was VERY disappointed as well and how I had planned this for months. She was yelling over me telling me we were the 3rd party to yell at her that night and I don't know what it feels like to be treated like that. Uh....yes I do and if you are in the restaurant business you best grow some thicker skin. I ended up hanging up on her as she continued to yell at me on the phone. Once we arrived to the Blue Halo in Tallahassee, I realized she had called me back TWO MORE TIMES telling me that we would never be welcome to make a reservation at her restaurant again. News flash....when I walked out at 8:45 I never intended to step through those doors again. Our family, moving from Atlanta, has a rich history of eating at fine dining establishments all over this country. We have NEVER been treated like this by a hostess, let alone an owner of a restaurant. She clearly had overbooked the restaurant and met her match with us. My husband gave her every opportunity to admit this, to no avail. Everything was our fault and thus, we are banned. We took our $500 tab elsewhere and finished the evening quite nicely. Sad to see this happening in a small town with great eating establishments. Thankfully there are other options in Liam's and Jonah's to fit the niche. My husband and I often head up to Thomasville for date night. Jonah's, or usual spot, was slammed as usual so we decided to give the Chop House a try. I don't see us returning. Great idea but fell very short. The soups were the best part of the meal. I had scallops which by themselves were ok, but they were served on a bed of Brussel sprouts...i didn't notice that when i ordered. Yuck. My husband had the grouper...supposed to be black grouper but it was red and was lacking in flavor. Bread pudding for dessert. ..was definitely microwaved. Was in town for business with two coworkers, and the reviews on here made this restaurant sound incredible. I called around 6:15 and asked about making a reservation but the lady asked if we could come around 8:00. That was too late so we took a gamble and showed up without a reservation at 6:45. There was several empty tables throughout the restaurant, but she told us they were booked for the night and couldn't seat us. We were disappointed so we left and walked down the street to eat at the Plaza Restaurant. Crazy that they turned away probably a $180 check. read more

The food was good, not great. The service was abysmal. Our server was polite and wanted us to have a good experience but the kitchen was way behind. And then our server disappeared. Another server tried to help but appetizers and dinner took 2 3/4 hours. The grilled oysters were lack luster, drowning in butter. The dessert special sounded good but nearly 30 minutes after ordering it we were informed they had run out.
