You never really appreciate something until you no longer have access to it and that's how I'm feeling about O'neil's Country Buffet. I currently reside in North Carolina and I've been partaking in their soul food buffet scene for quite some time and I've gotten quite accustomed to the cooking style of Eastern North Carolina, but let me tell you that country food or soul food of Eastern North Carolina has NOTHING on the soul food of Thomasville, Georgia! Now, I'm probably biased because Thomasville is my hometown, but I've lived in several states and NOTHING compares to the way that food is cooked in Thomasville and O'neil's sets the standard. I was in town recently and finally made it to O'neil's during their operating hours and prior to the rush (thank God!). When you enter the building, it reminds you of old, southern charm and I love that; I felt at home or I felt like I was in the home of one of my grandparents. The customer service I received upon entering the building was second to none. The buffet is small, but it packs a mighty punch. On my visit they had squash, cabbage, greens (I'm not sure which type), fried chicken gizzards, cornbread (I'm currently salivating), peach cobbler, turkey wings and so much more! I was in heaven! The food was so good that I'm currently experiencing withdrawals. If you get the chance and you're passing thru Thomasville, make sure you give this place a try, but you have to stop by between 11 am and 6 pm. This was my first time eating at a southern buffet. To be honest I did not know what to expect. As soon as we walked in the owner or guy behind the counter said hey how are you guys doing. A waitress also said hi to us. The staff was extremely friendly. Talking with all of the customers. I'm almost positive 95% of the customers were local. You find a seat to sit. Go up to the Buffett and grab a plate. A plate cost $9. The price is amazing for a all you can eat Buffett. The food was really good. Better than any other Buffett I have had. They had everything from wings, deep fried chicken, smoked chicken, turkey, pulled pork, beef with gravy, grits, turkey stuffing soo good. , mashed potatoes Mac and cheese green bean casserole. There was a lot more. For desert there was banana pudding and chocolate pudding. The waitress just brings you your drink and clears your plate. She was extremely nice and was very good with refills of our sweet tea. She was right there before we ran low. Overall for my first time. I was impressed. Very cool place. Thomasville's best buffet. (Forget about Seminole Wind or Market Diner). This is The Place. The crowd speaks the truth about the quality of the food. Fresh, clean and very tasty. We like Thursday because of the BBQ boston butt and hot wings. Service is fantastic and seating is plentiful. The desserts are typically cobbler and are wonderful. Unlike other buffets, the food bar never runs out of food. The entire staff is there to work hard to ensure an enjoyable meal and the best service for everyone. During the week it's about $8.50 to each lunch. But on Sunday it is $12. Is the meal any better on Sunday? NO. In fact, they don't add the wings or pulled pork. I went once on Sunday and won't return. I'm no fool. Why do they charge $12 on Sunday? Because they can. Expect a different crowd on Sunday, than during the week. read more

NONE of them were appetizing i tried the fried chicken. it was fried so hard it actually cut the damn inside of my mouth .... and it was dry the only veggie i liked was the corn ... the potatoes weren't cold but they were not close to being warm either ,,, the only positive was my server. she was precious and very attentive. it was what i thought it would be, prior to reading the reviews that seemed to indicate i was missing some good food. Favorite sides are: mashed potatoes, greens, Mac and cheese, rutabagas, creamed corn, green beans and sweet potato casserole. Several meat options rotate on different days, but the baked chicken and pulled pork can't be beat. Homemade cobblers and ice cream are the perfect dessert. Staff are friendly and attentive. If cheap and plentiful is your thing then this is your place! The fried chicken and biscuits was the only things that were REALLY good. The veggies I tried were super salty. They put coconut in the sweet potato casserole. WTH is that all about?! There were a couple of unidentifiable dishes - something that looked like it maybe had sausage and some sort of tomato sauce and some rice and meat dish. I asked the waitress what it was and even she had no idea. They also had hot wings which I didn't try but my nephew seemed to enjoy. The peach cobbler had WAY too much batter and not enough peaches, it was almost the consistency of bread pudding. $8 a person including beverage and tax gives it an extra star from the 2 star it probably deserves. read more

This is a simple country buffet restaurant. I found the food to be bland, and I was disappointed with every dish that I tried. Even the Mack and cheese and the greens were bland. The set up was a little different in that you pay as you come in and are then taken to your seats. The server was kind and brought our drinks quickly. She did a good job checking in on us. Ate there twice in mid June. Both times I didn't even eat any of the meats. Not because they weren't good; just because the vegetables were outstanding and totally satisfying.
