Made my 2nd visit to Jonah's today for lunch. I ordered blackened grouper sandwich with red cabbage slaw and fries. And an unsweetened iced tea. The restaurant was less crowded than last time, I guess because schools are back in session. My sandwich arrived promptly. I gobbled a couple of bites down, before realizing I had wanted to take some pictures. Oh well, take my word for it - the sandwich was fabulous. A thick piece of grouper with beautifully blackening on a toasted roll with lettuce, red onion and Jonah's sauce. The fries were hot, the slaw could've used some seasoning. The golf ball sized hush puppy was moist on the inside and crispy outside. Great flavors. Very attentive server. Checked back several times and refilled my tea. A lot of hype. A LOT .... Lines around the block for this place. My wife's whole family raves about it. I have heard about this place for years and finally braved the lines. Not really worth the wait. Decent food. Friendly staff. But nothing super special. For Thomasville, I get it, but I live in Pensacola where there is a place like this on every corner. I had the grouper sandwich (blackened) and the fried green tomatoes for a starter. The FGTs were very good. The sandwich was average except that the ciabatta bun was exceptional. Cheese grits on the side were above average. Brussels sprouts were just like any bistro Brussels sprouts ever (man, I wish this trend would die, but I keep ordering them hoping to be surprised.) The place was PACKED (as usual) but the staff were friendly and attentive. For me, however, this is expected in any restaurant. Such a charming spot in downtown Thomasville. Came with clients while visiting town for a work meeting and really enjoyed our lunch here. It was busy so we had to wait about 20 mins, not sure if they do call ahead or take reservations. I opted for the Cajun shrimp and grits which were delicious. Grits were so good and creamy and the Cajun sauce was the perfect amount of spice and flavor. Hushpuppy was a nice touch to dip as well. If you're spending the day in Thomasville, Jonah's Fish & Grits is an ideal lunch stop. The interior is beautiful and welcoming, and the menu is very reasonably priced for the quality you get. While they're known for their legendary shrimp and grits, I decided to order the fried catfish instead. It was a great choice. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and tender, flaky inside. The sides were just as impressive and clearly prepared with care rather than treated as an afterthought. Family recommended Jonah's for our first visit to Thomasville, Georgia. We started with the Green Tomatoes which came out piping hot and delicious! Husband had the Crab Cakes which were perfectly cooked and full of Crab! I had the Shrimp & Grits which were full of vegetables(surprised by that), lots of delicious shrimp and creamy, smooth grits. Came here to eat in Thomasville because my grandma says the shrimp and grits are the best ever. We got to Jonah's around 1 oclock and it was a 60 minute wait which was very hot outside without seating inside to wait. Finally we got a table, I just ate shrimp and grits at the beach so I just got the jumbo fried shrimp with white cheddar grits and coleslaw. Of course I got a sweet tea to drink which was so sweet and delicious just how I like it. Don't even get me started on the hush puppies... lord have mercy them thangs were good. I got my main dish and it was absolutely wonderful, the grits were creamy and salty, shrimp was the biggest I'd ever seen, and the slaw was a perfect compliment to the rest. What an excellent place! We had shrimp-and-grits--absolutely fantastic--and fish-and-chips. The tarter sauce is unique and flavorful and the fish and breading were light & tender. This place is clearly popular, as we showed up before 11:30 on a Friday and had to wait for a table. It was packed. All of the workers, from host to servers to busboy were conscientious, friendly and worked with clear dedication. One detail was especially appreciated: Our table was tippy and we asked our server if something could be done about it. She said yes, and the young man who'd been our host when we arrived came over. He first adjusted a leveler on the table leg, but when that did not fix it, he added a sturdy plastic shim and that fixed it perfectly. This told us that this business takes details seriously. I finally got a chance to partake in a meal at Jonah's! Each time I've tried to go on the weekend, the line was just too long, and I ended up going to another great, local restaurant in Thomasville. This time, we were there within minutes of them opening, on a weekday, and were seated immediately. The inside area is not super spacious, but certainly adequate. Our waitress was awesome! However, it did seem that a couple of tables in which the customers came in after us, were served their entrees before we received ours. Not sure what happened here, but I will plan to go back again - if only to make sure this was a fluke. Great food is wonderful, but so is overall customer service - including the wait time for entrees. With all of this being said, everything was delicious!!! We started out with hushpuppies, followed by fried grouper bites, fried green tomatoes, cyclone shrimp, and clam chowder (basically sampled all of the appetizers). :-) Our entrees included shrimp and grits, catfish, salmon, and grouper. Traveling and this was our first stop for the night. We were looking for seafood so chose there. Cute place downtown. We were here later and business was medium occupancy. I appreciate the concept and ambiance. Our server wasn't quiet on the ball but we weren't in a super hurry. We don't often try seafood when not close to water as we are frequently disappointed. We had the grouper bites and the fried shrimp with fries and hush puppies. The shrimp were lightly breaded which is perfect but they were over cooked and though butterflied they definitely weren't cleaned properly. The grouper was very fishy tasting so likely frozen not fresh, maybe. Hush puppies were tasty. They were larger but airy and we liked the flavor. We had a great lunch today. The front entrance was clean, well kept & inviting. The Christian music playing truly made it even better of an experience. As a spirit filled person, I felt the presence of God while enjoying my lunch date with my husband. We had a great waiter, Willie! He was very on top of our drinks & checking on us. He was super kind. Ordered these AMAZING Cyclopes shrimp appetizer & they were literally SO DELICIOUS! Perfect sauce amount as well as phenomenal batter. Thomasville is such a quaint Southern town. I'm driving thru headed East and it's always worth the stop. First time here and it was not a disappointment. So Good!! Growing up in Tallahassee, I'd heard about Thomasville and the famous Jonah's Fish & Grits. In college, I used to try coming on weekends while visiting the family at home but the wait was always so long. There's a small back patio that we always sit in because I usually bring the pup with me to Thomasville. In the summer, it gets quite hot, and with heat and humidity comes flies... but they have recently invested in these fly fans (not sure what exactly they're called but that's what I'm calling them lol) and they work perfectly against the army of flies that try to attack while eating. Pro tip - don't let them forget your complementary hush puppies! Hush puppy refills cost extra. But they are so so good that if you're hungry, it's worth the extra $. My favorite dish is the shrimp & scallop pesto pasta. It's rich and heavy but so freaking good. The shrimp scampi is also a good option but not as flavorful as the pesto pasta. Also SCALLOPS FTW. Not a pasta fan? Try the shrimp and grits or the big fish grouper sandwich (get it blackened for the ultimate flavor explosion). 100% my go-to restaurant when I'm day-tripping to Thomasville! read more

Having long moved away from the North Florida / South Georgia area, anytime we have an opportunity to pass through town, Jonah's is on our list of "must visit" restaurants. Thomasville is charming in its own right, but the southern hospitality just pours out of the front door of Jonah's Fish &Grits. Imagine living in a real life scene from "Sweet Magnolia's". That's it. You are there. Step through their front door and you are transported back in time to when people used their manners, people held the door for you, people said yes ma'am and no ma'am, people said please and thank you, people smiled, and a time when the food was so good you feel giddy. Upon arrival, the restaurant was in the throes of the lunch rush but that didn't stop them from finding a table for us immediately. Our server was an absolute gem and as I looked at every table around hours, I saw nothing but smiling faces and happiness. We ordered the fried dill pickles and had to stop ourselves from eating the entire plate. We both got the catfish entree for lunch and immediately remembered why we love this place so much. The food arrived so hot I had to blow on it. Is that appropriate table manners for a proper southern girl? Absolutely not, but I was starving and it's just smelled so good I didn't want to delay the first bite. Sadly we can only visit every year or so, but it doesn't matter, when we do it's always as good as the last time. Take a moment to sit a bit, order a sweet tea, eat some catfish, do some good old fashioned southern people watching, and enjoy southern hospitality at its finest.
