I love Chop Shop - never had anything less than a great time, whether I've stopped in on a weeknight, weekend, afternoon, sat in the bar, in the dining room, come by for an event, or popped in to get something from the deli. The food, drinks, and service have been great. Last night, we stopped in for drinks and apps on the rooftop and it was particularly enjoyable. Got there right after work so a table outside was easy to come by. They have a wonderful rooftop deck that's clean, intimate, and sunny - I really like it and it's nice to sit outside but not be right next to the street. My date and I shared a seafood platter to start. We are seafood fanatics and make lots of trips to the Keys where they have some of the best - Chop Shop's seafood platter was dreamy. The oysters were perfect in size and flavor, even without anything added. The tiger prawns were big and tender, and the big eye tune was delicate and also flavorful - none of it fishy at all. We followed that up with the butcher platter (meat and cheese combo) which is one of the things we always order and they always pick great selections for it, along with really good relishes, etc. One of the specials was a watermelon salad, so I had to order it since it sounded so fresh and summery - it was! With a bit of a kick from some jalapeno, which I hadn't had with other watermelon feta salads. Yum! Other visits, we have ordered full dinners and loved every bite. The steaks are really outstanding, even compared to the world class steakhouses in the city that we have tried. I have really enjoyed the fish entrees I've had as well, since that's more my style. We have left here in happy food comas on more than one occassion. The beer selection is always excellent, which my fiance loves since he's in the biz - but since I'm mostly a wine and cocktail drinker, their offerings in those departments are also excellent. I was drinking their prosecco last night, but the drinks I've had and other wines on the list never disappoint. Also worth noting that I've been here for dose market, which I followed here from when they moved the event from River East Art Center, and they do a great job with that as well. Easter brunch. Came here to avoid a super busy Easter brunch and have a relaxing time with my parentals. They had a large party upstairs, so they should have been staffed well. Apparently not. 1. They lost our reservation and had to "create" a table for us. No free mimosas as advertised I guess. 2. It took us over two hours to eat brunch, and about an hour to get our food. We did order a desert that required to be baked so that is about 15 mins, but still. 3. They messed up our burgers. I ordered medium, my mom well done. Since we ordered the same burger, we could just swap (normally not a big deal) but my mom likes to slather ketchup all over the burger and I prefer not to have ketchup. When it takes 45 mins to get food you just eat it and deal. Burger was ok, nothing super good in my opinion. Wasn't given the option to replace etc for the mix up, just a "I will let the kitchen know". I'm not a person that always expects perfect service, and if I can see a server has 14 tables and is stressed all is good, but I counted 6 tables, 7 when we left. At that food delivery speed let's say 3.5 tables. 4. Just realized that they forgot the "chop shop sauce" sauce on the burgers. All in all, the food was ok but nothing special. The biscuits and gravy tasted like nothing. Burger was ok, again nothing special. Parents said nothing in particular about their food other than "the bacon is really good". Lobster hollandaise was ok, but my wife didn't enjoy it. My ketchup slathered burger found a home there and I finished her meal. The last time I was here was for a party and had a blast. Disappointed that after such a good experience they fell short at brunch. I don't get to see my parents often so I hate having my wife recco a bad place to eat when they come up for Easter. read more

We came in here for an impromptu (very) late lunch. The chalkboard menu board behind the deli counter looked good; I noticed a make-your-own sandwich option, and started looking at the soups before the hostess asked if we were there for dinner (it was about 4:40 p.m.). We said we were there for lunch, and she said that was cool, they were still serving lunch, and seated us upstairs. I was a bit confused at this point. I couldn't reconcile having the deli counter downstairs with being seated upstairs; given the restaurant's appearance upon entry, I assumed it was a counter-service place, which is what we were looking for. We received our menus, and neither the soup nor the make your own sandwich were on the menu. I started wondering if maybe you could order from the deli downstairs and eat there, since the menu we had didn't seem to reflect the options downstairs. So I asked one of the guys behind the bar if the deli menu downstairs was different, and he indicated that the menu downstairs was the same. I still don't really understand the layout of the place or how it works. I feel like there was this nice little deli that lured us in, but we couldn't order from it, and instead were whisked away and seated upstairs, where we weren't afforded the option to order some of the items advertised downstairs. The service was fine, and the food was fine; I had the turkey sandwich, which pretty much tasted like turkey sandwiches I make at home (no more no less), as long as I buy Swiss cheese and French bread. My wife had a hamburger cooked medium, which was actually cooked well, and my kids split a turkey BLT with fries, which they enjoyed. Ultimately, the food is serviceable but constitutes an overpriced meal for what it is when you factor in having to tip for service, when all you're really looking for is a quick deli sandwich or cup of soup from the counter, which is what the front of the restaurant suggests. If that were the case, it would be all right: you could do worse for a quick deli sandwich. But you could do much better for the money for a casual dine-in experience. I still don't get it. Is the deli counter portion of the restaurant just for looks? Seems like the place has an identity crisis. Is it a sit-down restaurant or a deli? Just left the place feeling bummed, like I had been tricked or something. read more

My friend and I came here because of the rooftop seating. Sunday evening and we got in right away. The lunch menu is not extensive. Not much of a beer & food selection. My friend and I got fries and the corn (which was very good, I liked that it was kind of spicy). The service was good but the one thing I didn't like was that there was a lipstick stain on my glass of water. They should clean them a little bit better. My beer glass was clean though. Most likely I wouldn't come here again. I did see a lot of people order the cheese plate. I guess that's what's popular there (other than the meat). Since it's a butcher shop. I would probably just go to there to buy meat and cheese by the pound if I lived near there. read more

Had a great experience at Chop Shop. It was easy to get a reservation on a Friday night and we arrived and were seated upstairs. The atmosphere upstairs is really cool- dimly lit with the ambiance of busy North Ave and the train out the window. I had one of those, "I really love Chicago" moments as we were seated right by the window. Food was very good. We had the spinach artichoke dip to start, which was almost like a kale dip. It was very heavy on the spinach (which we liked) and felt less into my lips/straight to my hips than your typical creamy and cheesy spin dip. We shared the parparadelle, the strip steak, and a side of brussel sprouts. The steak was good, but I probably wouldn't come back and order a steak (many other good steak places in Chicago). The brussel sprouts had very little flavor and I could have done without them. The parparadelle with a pork ragu sauce and sour cream was the star of the show. Amazing! Our service was exceptional and the cocktails were great. Such a great Bucktown/Wicker Park spot. Seems like a good place to bring out of town visitors to as it is affordable, not pretentious, very yummy, and very Chicago feeling. Will definitely come back! read more

This is such a classic Chicago joint. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you see the product facing you - beautifully cut varieties of meat. This place is more than just a restaurant; it is a Chicago experience! They have demonstrations where they take a whole hog and show you how they cut it up and butcher it. On the first floor they have a back area where you can play bocce ball. When you're not using it for bocce ball they occasionally have amateur boxing matches. Can you imagine eating a nice steak while watching two guys pound each others faces? Incredible! The upstairs of the restaurant is also beautifully decorated. It's a beautiful outdoor patio and over all the space is just amazing. I tried their Butchers Burger which was topped with tasty grilled onions and quality strips of crispy bacon. Their regular fries are also nicely seasoned. The staff are friendly and the service was quick. What else can you want from a restaurant? This is a must see if you live or are visiting in the Wicker Park area. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening with my BF and another couple. The place is definitely large so it doesn't feel crowded. The set up is a little strange. You walk in and it looks like a deli. You walk past the coolers and then you find the bar and across from it the seating. Then you keep looking toward the back and up and it looks like an event place. The space is not small but definitely is having somewhat of an identity crisis. Drinks. We ordered a Negroni, a dirty martini, beer and a Playa de Sangre. All the drinks were good. Apps: To share we ordered the gnocchi and a dozen oysters. The gnocchi was decent but have had better. It had huge pieces of potato which i wasn't too fond of and could've used a little more seasoning. I don't eat seafood so i didn't try the oysters but the comments around the table were "I've had better" and "why didn't she explain which oysters were which?". Entrees: i ordered the burger which was cooked just right at medium. However, they served it without any lettuce, tomato, or onion. Now i get some ppl might not eat it, but at least put it on the side. I had to order it from our waitress. My BF got the duck. Definitely a small portion and he said it was just "OK". Our other male friend ordered the pork chop which he really liked. All in all, not bad but not great. If i happen to be in the area, want a cocktail and don't feel like being in a super crowded bar/restaurant I'd def come in here. read more

Awkward setup with the deli in the front and bar/event space in the back. The food is fine. Decent bar food. The layout, service, feel, and flow could use some work. We've been a couple of times for dinner & drinks before a show in the back at 1st Ward Events. The ambiance feels a little "cookie cutter" or contrived. We've had some okay bartenders, but some really bad ones as well. Some seem unfamiliar with the drink specials and little features on the menu (like "Choose your bitters") and are a little rude or disengaged. The cocktails aren't well-balanced and could be more thoughtfully crafted. I guess for what it is, it's fine. Not sure I'll be back, unless I'm dying to see one of the shows. read more

My boyfriend and I went to check out The Chop Shop for lunch last weekend. We were excited for a new sandwich place to try in Wicker Park, but unfortunately were quickly disappointed by this place. The space is nice, but way too large and didn't seem to have a clear vision for what they are going for. There was also A TON of people working and only a couple customers. We were greeted and seated by the bar. Unfortunately, we were given catering menus and not the normal menus so ordering was confusing for everyone. I ordered the BLT expecting a thick, bacon slab like the menu stated. The bacon was some of the thinest I've ever seen and for a place promoting themselves as a butcher shop seemed pretty off. The bread was also not toasted enough. My boyfriend got the meatball sub, which wasn't anything special with soggy bread, a slice of provolone cheese and meatballs slopped on top. The potato salad and pasta salad sides were also bland and unappealing. The menu (at least the menu we received) said that all sandwiches came with peppers and provolone cheese, yet we were charged for all extras. Our lunch for two (including two drinks) ended up being around $45... The service was sweet and friendly though and I understand they are still learning the menu. The restaurant had only been open a week, so I will cut them some slack and maybe come back in to try dinner or sandwiches to-go in the future! read more

Disclaimer: I don't usually post reviews but I was having a nostalgic moment about one of my favorite neighborhood spots in Chicago. Figured I'd give it a go I lived in Wicker Park until this Spring and was a regular at this spot for a multitude of reasons. Dates? Check. Chi-town Sports on TV? Check. Groups? Check. Dancing in the back area? Check.... Here, the food is great, the bar has great drinks, and if you get on the event space mailing list, they have some awesome shows in the back with some speakers that make your head wobble. The Food here is excellent. Easily my favorite hamburger in the neighborhood. They have a special sauce that easily has 10 ingredients on it. Ohhh, and that aged cheddar cheese that wasn't completely melted so that you could really savor the flavor.... People talk about the Hanger Steak, which is off the chain and a steal for the money. But if you want the good good, you have to go with the Bone-in Ribeye steak that they have here. have it cooked the way you like, and dab it in some of the homemade Bernaise sauce they make in-house, and I'm telling you.....that meat melts in your mouth. I got to meet Chef Marrelli while I was there (as he makes it a point to check in on tables), and the dude knows what he is doing in the kitchen. The Spot also has a rooftop deck where they have fishbowls you can drink from that not only taste delish, but don't break the bank. Personally though, the Moretti's Manhattan might be the best alcoholic beverage I've ever tasted. Now, I know thats saying a lot, but no lie, it is the smoothest Manhattan I've ever had. Eat some food though b/c they pack a punch. On my way to School I'd stop by as it is right off the Damen stop on the Blue Line. The meat and cheeses on the sandwiches are some of the best I've had. My usual was the BLT (I know that sounds boring but the bacon is that good) and the Spicy Italian. Also, peep the soup specials. They used to have a creamy potato soup that is just what the doctor orders on freezing Ch-town days. Ultimately, my favorite thing about the place was coming in on a lazy Sunday afternoon, ordering a charcuterie board that i usually built myself, getting a cold pint of beer and either taking in a game solo, or chatting it up with the eclectic crowd that rolls through this spot. From the Deli, to the bar, to the kitchen, all the way back to the event space, there's a lot of thought, preparation, and love that go into the whole production. Came here 2 years ago for my little brothers birthday. Food was meh. We decided to come back tonight as we were celebrating my fiancées new job and we live in the area and wanted to support local restaurants. We were seated and 20 minutes go by and no one came to the table. An employee went to the table next to us to clear their plates and asked if they needed anything, but no one came to our table to take our order. The food was GREAT, but the service was terrible. From being seated to finally leaving, our table was there for 2.5 hours. The waitress seemed really busy, and she made it known to our table. We were made to feel more of a burden than a group of guests. To top it all off, right after we ordered food, our waitress said she was only going to take a limited number of cards for the check. So when the waitress brought us 1 check at the end, our table broke up the check to be applied to a few cards. But then she brought the check back and told us to figure out the math including the tax for each check total. Her excuse? Because she didn't enter our orders per chair, she was "slammed" and didn't "have time." Disappointing! I won't go back. read more

I came here for an event (Donut Fest 2015) held in the event space at the back of this store, and apparently called First Ward. I did not purchase anything here but did observe it to be an interesting business model - a chic butcher shop I would call it. So they have a butcher shop up front and sandwich offerings. I did not check pricing or values but they looked to have quality meat selections on display. They also have a bar and a restaurant section, so that seemed a bit unusual to me for a butcher shop - but it is Wicker Park, so the theme appeared to be: provide whatever the customer base wants here. In the back was a nice open two story event space that looked like it could be used for a variety of events. They packed too many people in here for Donut Fest, but that was not Chop Shop's issue, but rather the event planners for Donut Fest. Anyway, I guess this is more of a business format review than anything else. FYI - I'm finding that there are several streets in this area that actually have free street parking and not just for residents - like nearby Hoyne Street as well as Wicker Park Avenue, so don't give up on this area, though the odds of you getting a free space are still quite low! read more

Nice, clean space and a bit of an oasis in the chaos of 5 corners. Friendly staff, decent beer selection and open event space in the back. The butcher selection looked great. Pricey but also appeared to be high quality. Got a sandwich, gumbo and a salad. All were good. The gumbo in particular was tasty. The sandwich would have benefited if they switched to D'Amatos bread instead of the Turnio or whatever they are using. Sorted needed a snap to it that just wasn't there. read more

I really wanted to like this place; the atmosphere is awesome, the butcher shop on the main level is super enticing, and the food was actually quite good. However, the service left much to be desired. Upon arrival, my friend and I sat upstairs on the rooftop deck which is a really nice space. There was literally no one else there except for two women, and one of which ended up being our server later on. She seemed a bit put off that we were upstairs - I felt as if I was interrupting her. It took her about 10 minutes to greet us after we arrived - our water was delivered by an expediter. We gave our drink and food orders immediately and the food took awhile to arrive. I noticed the server serve her friend a cocktail first, linger and talk, and then drop off my drink. I wasn't in a rush, but I found it odd and off putting. The server waited around outside for awhile until someone appeared to knock on the glass from the inside of the restaurant. She disappeared and some time later the expediter brought over our food. The food itself was delicious. I had the burger and it was perfect. It comes with french fries that have the perfect amount of salt and seasoning. My friend also really enjoyed her panini. So, if I was grading on food alone it would have been 5 stars. While our server asked how everything was, she never came around to refill drinks - my glass was empty for about 5 minutes before I had to ask her to grab a refill for me. In all honesty, the male expediter did all of the actual work; he brought our waters, refilled them, brought out our food, and cleared our plates. I'm hoping the majority of my tip went to him, because the server literally just asked us what we wanted and showed up once thereafter. Maybe it is stupid, but I've had way better service at other restaurants with equally good food. Again, I really loved the atmosphere and the food, but the service was mediocre at best. Met a new coworker there for lunch and we got there just as it opened. Place is pretty cool and fits right in within the Wicker Park vibe - feels like you're in an old renovated brick loft warehouse. Exposed beams and brick along with high ceilings. 1/3 butcher, 1/3 bar/restaurant and 1/3 entertainment area. Sat along the wall with 4' x 3' pics of the likes of Pearl Jam, Wilco, Red Hot Chillie Peppers and others hung on the wall. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with their signature sauce and my coworker ordered the $5 lunch special Italian sausage sandwich. Can speak to the sausage, but he said it was good and didn't see any left overs. My burger was excellent and came with skinnier fries that were excellent as well. Seems like a fun place and would grab the burger there again. Service was good. read more

I would go back here on a breezy hot day just to sit on their quiet rooftop patio and sip some cocktails. Last I was here I had the meatball sandwich which was OK...not the best sandwich ever but not bad at all. The bread was a little hard which made it harder to eat. I think the menu is slightly overpriced for what you get, but perhaps on-par with the neighborhood. Open for lunch which is a bonus as many other places in the area are only open for dinner. read more

Saw a Gibbz here on 10/20. What a venue!!!!! Very cool set up. Downstairs is a bar area and a concert venue, upstairs is a restaurant with a beautiful outdoor rooftop space. It wasn't open when we were there, but we stepped out to look at it. Just beautiful. I didn't realize they had a restaurant, but now that I know, it's definitely on my list to check out, and I will jump at the chance to see another show here. I was already a fan of this place, and then the other night witnessed a manager handle a dicey drunken customer situation with absolutely impeccable class. The rest of the staff isn't too bad either. Oh and there are tasty drinks too? Sold. The lost star? Food. It's good, don't get me wrong. But it's just shy of being great. Portions are a tad on the small side for the pricing and the food just lacks some love. Seems like they are looking to be culinary elite, but a) they aren't, and b) it doesn't fit the space or the customer. My friend likes to dip her fries in hot sauce and was told that "the chef doesn't allow hot sauce in the restaurant". Come on now dude, this isn't Alinea. Yesterday I went back to the Chop Shop hoping to impress my boss. She drove in from Wisconsin for a couple of meetings. I told her that I had the perfect lunch spot. However, the service was terrible. We waited for 10 minutes for our drinks and had to remind our server we were waiting for them. Then it took 25 minutes to get two sandwiches. Plus he forgot that we ordered fries. How he forgot after he wrote it down is beyond me. We asked for the check. He dropped it off and disappeared. We wanted to tell him that he forgot to put our drinks on the check. Even after all of that my boss spent $80.00 on steaks. But that was like pulling teeth. No one acknowledged us even though 6 guys were standing around. I had an excellent first experience but yesterday's experience was so bad, I doubt I'll return. read more

So I ended up here when we went to the new Dose Market that they hold in the back. I didn't eat or buy anything but just browsed the shop. Wow, the prices are really expensive compared to other butcher shops I've been to lately. Overall, I found the selection to be small. The staff was nice, but I didn't see anything that caught my eye. Still not totally sure I understand everything that is going on at this place! It appeared to me to be a deli/restaurant/bar with an event space in the back. My review focuses on the bar, as I came here just for drinks. I tried two of the cocktails: the Cran-Cider and the Pumpkinhead (the menu on Yelp is a bit older--check out their website for the most recent cocktail list). The Cran-Cider was decent, although it sort reminded me of warmed up Gatorade (but in a good way?) The Pumpkinhead, however, was EXCELLENT! It was delicious, tasted like pumpkin pie, and had a roasted marshmallow on top! Amazing. Other than that, the service was good, and the bar had a rustic but trendy ambiance. You ever have a day when you're so tired and stressed that you don't want to go out, but you go anyway so you don't seem like a jerk, knowing that you'll likely be low-grade bitter about the whole night because nothing will be good/exciting/tasty enough to offset the fatigue-funk? That was me. Then we ate here, and this place launched me out of my bunker of misery, into a lovely evening with delicious food, drinks and company. (I'll start by saying the 5 stars is for the food in the upstairs dining area and the awesome drinks. I haven't tried the deli sandwiches (yet?), so I reserve the right to edit in the future.) The menu is pretty much new American with a slight Italian influence. Service was great -- everyone was so nice and friendly, clearly ready to make a good impression. Apps: Charcuterie -- Good cheeses and some sort of chicken mousse (sounds eew, but was surprisingly palatable). And they make the cheeses in-house! Who makes cheeses in-house? Knocked this one out of the ballpark. Stone fruit salad -- Tasty, though the peaches a bit firm for my taste. Entrees: I had the roasted chicken, which was seasoned perfectly, tender, and had skin that was crisped just enough -- a little crunch, not tough, just enough texture. The salmon -- amazing! And on a bed of some strange looking mushrooms that were so tasty, I forgot that I didn't really know what I eating. I just wanted more. Gnocchi was a table favorite and a great veg option. The pork chop, I was told, was life-changing...in a good way. "Best pork chop I've ever tasted" - from my friend, a trained chef. SIdes: the mashed potatoes? I ordered one for a shareable side, then we ordered two more because they were so good. Homemade, chives, butter, yummmmm. Drinks: There was a drink (forget the name, started with a J?) didn't really taste like it had alcohol, not too sweet. Made with something lemony. I'm doing it no justice here but it was good. Overall, I will be back, if only so I can order the gnocchi and have it all to myself. And any place that can get me out of a funk is worthy of repeat visits! read more

This review is just for the butcher/takeout part. I've been stopping by Chop Shop when I feel like a steak but not going out to eat a steak for $20-$30. The men I've bought steaks from have all been very helpful, friendly, and informative, and have discussed how to cook steak with me for minutes at a time (essentially: heat up a cast iron pan for a while, and preheat an oven. Melt butter. Sear for 3 minutes each side, then pop butter, garlic, rosemary on top and oven for 5-ish minutes). We LOVE the meat we've bought at Chop Shop; great quality. Last night I actually ate a food from Chop Shop! The Butcher's Burger is $14 and comes with fries, though we skipped those and replaced them with some fabulous green beans (with garlic, olive oil, tomato, basil, cheese). We also got the kale salad, which is a bit over salted and I prefer the one at Goddess or even Go Grocer across the street. I LOVED this burger- clearly not just chuck, ground up something or other. Medium cooked, topped with a tangy aged cheddar and some grilled red onions. It was fantastic and the bun held up well to it. All of this said, yes, Yay! I'm a fan of Chop Shop, but I really don't get them. Everything on the menu is $2-$3 overpriced and they're just trying to be super hipster/pricey for the WP market. Then again, we Wicker Parkers are just a bunch of super hipster yuppies so maybe they're onto something. read more

I had heard about this place for so long, and read lots of great reviews.. so really was stoked to finally try it. Loved the environment --- the cool hip-music, industrial setting was dope. (And that bathroom is crazy!) Frankly, would love to see a musical act in their amazing performance space someday. As for the food... it was just ok. I was hoping for much more. The menu seemed pretty limited, but had some stuff I really enjoy -- charcuterie anyone? The fact that the butcher their own meat is a big plus. But, maybe it was the very slow service, or maybe it was an off night, but I can't say anything really blew me away. The butcher board was ok... but it was delivered without any explanation of what we were eating. Since it's butcher's option, would have been nice to hear why the cuts were chosen and how they paired with the cheese selections. And the fact that it came out about 15 minutes after we ordered, and with only three pieces of bread impacted the experience. (We asked for more bread and that took about another 20 minutes.) For the mains we had the hanger steak (a bit bland... but the chimichurri was awesome), and the duck (a bit fattier than most cuts). Shoe stringish fries accompanied, which were good. We also tried some deep fried zuchinni which was also just ok... nothing to write about. The drink selections were good -- we had a Manhattan and the Ginger Bread gin drink... which was delicious. I wanted another one... I asked for another one... but after another 20 minute wait, and mains already done, just cancelled. Bummer. We tried the trio of desserts offered --- a dark chocolate cake, a ginger pund cake, and a panna cotta. All were great, probably my favorite part of the meal. Chop Shop is so airy and laid-back, right around the corner from the Damen Blue Line station, and enormous on the inside. Great food and even better drinks. Cons: When we showed up there was a really strong smell of oil. It smelled like a garage (found out later they were oiling their outdoor wooden furniture). It stuck around the whole time. The food seemed pretty overpriced (especially the charcuterie, just not worth what they're charging). Still, it was quite tasty. My husband and I went here for Valentine's day dinner (kind of on a whim). We live in the neighborhood but had only been there a few times for drinks so we decided to try it out! We made online reservations (open table) which was very easy. The staff was very friendly and inviting. However, the food was "meh." We started with the mussels which were fantastic!!! For entrees, I got the chicken and my husband got pork tenderloin. The chicken was pretty good (flavor wise) but it was very burnt on the bottom. The green beans it came with were absolutely awful-- they were way to salty. We also got a side of brussel sprouts for $8, which was a little overpriced for the size of them. Overall, I think there are a lot of other places in Bucktown/Wicker Park that offer better food. read more

I was so excited to try Chop Shop after following them on Intsagram. The food, drinks and atmosphere looked amazing. I came in on Wednesday for the $1 oyster happy hour and 1/2 priced bottles of wine. The bartender didn't let us know of the specials, so after ordering the bottle of wine I asked if it was included in the deal. He said no, but then double checked with his manager and found out that it was. Unfortunately the oysters had shells in them making them unappealing to eat. After seeing the pictures of the charcuterie board on Instagram, and since we were at a butcher shop, I was so excited to order it! For $23, the Signature Butcher Board (Chef's choice of selected meats and cheeses with grilled toast points, house jams, house pickles) was a HUGE disappointment. 4 small pieces of salami, a few pieces of what seemed like sliced ham (whatever it was, it wasn't prosciutto), and a couple of bright orange cheese blocks were not worth the price. We had no idea what we were eating since it wasn't explained to us when it was delivered. The mustard and chicken liver mousse were the only two good things on the board. The check came and the bottle of wine was listed as full price. The bartender apologized and fixed it, but it was one last thing that added to the poor experience. read more

Did anyone happen to dine at the Chop Shop on 9-14-16? Did you order oysters and notice they had a gross milky texture?? I think they were spawning and couldn't eat them as it grossed us out. Whoever was in charge of making the flavored aiolis was clearly not in today, because instead of either spicy tomato or the spicy Sriacha sauces that were supposed to come with our orders, we received ketchup. When we addressed this with the server, they had another employee bring a small bowl of mayo... Mix your own, I guess. The sandwich I ordered was good, but missing some of the ingredients that made me want to order it to begin with. No one told me this at any point. As someone who has worked in food service for years, I fully understand that sometimes things run out. And that's ok, but communication is the key!!! Finally, there was one person pretty much serving the entire upstairs by themselves. On a Saturday? Not their fault, but no one asked us, at any any point, how our food was, or if we needed anything else. Came for the WP Indoor Farmers Market, which was great. Pretty bummed about the lunch experience, though. read more

If you're going to advertise your food to have certain toppings/ingredients/sauces, make sure you actually put them in the food, or even better, let us know you're out. I love this place. The service is friendly and attentive. The food is delicious (I highly recommend the cheese board and steaks). And the drinks -- let's just say that in a world of artisanal cocktails, it's refreshing to get a drink in which you can actually taste the alcohol! Thank you, Chop Shop. The decor is cool yet comfortable. Considering it has a deli, event space, upstairs dining area and bar, and outdoor seating it could have seemed expansive and cold, but instead it's cozy and hip. I was sorry to read about the uneven experiences some people have had with the deli sandwiches, but I urge them to give the place another try. I know how good they can be! One of the owners, Mario Minelli, has a long history with Italian delis and is serious about his sandwiches. Yes, I'm friends with Mario. Yes, I want to see this place succeed. But more than anything, I'm excited to have a new place to bring friends and family where I know I'll get great food in a cool atmosphere at seriously reasonable prices. Giving the review 5 stars because I legitimately like this place and have been here before, but I visited today and myself and the other people at our table noticed that the food wasn't properly cooked, everyone's bacon was undercooked and chewy, while all the eggs on the benedicts were overcooked and instead of poached they were almost hard boiled, and there was almost no hollandaise sauce in it making for a salty and unappetizing benedict. I have had the food here several times I don't know if today was just an off day or there is just a new hire in the kitchen but it was really disappointing knowing how delicious everything can be. read more
