For having a completely empty patio and literally not a single table filled inside, we still waited quite a bit for our drinks to come out. Aside from that, the old fashioned was very good and made the proper way. The other drinks were also delicious. I have to knock it one star because of our server. I know she's trying to be friendly, but at a certain point, after our drink orders are in, you've gotta step back and walk them over to the bar and stop talking to us. Although I'm really quite disgusted that a place called bourbon on division turns into a club at night, the bartender "Ashley?" Did me right by pouring me her favorite Bourbon, Straight Edge, finishing off the bottle... I was really let down and I guess I'm upset the kitchen was closed because it looked like one of the shitty bars in my home town that turns into a bunch of douche bags standing around one hot girl while the music pumps and the bar just keeps taking their money as they guzzle drinks to stand against a wall all night. read more

Well this was a complete bust. We went here for brunch on Saturday because I could've swore they had biscuits and gravy...alas, they did not. We walked up at 1115a and there was only one other table. Grave sign...should've ran! Lol. Our server was SUPER NICE. And tried to be accommodating, but it was so bad. I ordered a regular Bloody Mary. After trying it, it tasted sour?? I don't know why. Everyone tried it and agreed, it tasted bad. I sent that back and got a French 57, which was much better. The wait time before our entrees came out seemed to be an excessively long time. The food was very mediocre. Shrimp & Grits-two of my four shrimp were half raw. I accidentally ate one not knowing and when I looked at the others, I realized they weren't fully cooked. I immediately lost my appetite. They did take it back and even offered to make me another, but I declined. Chicken & waffles-no flavor. The waffle was a corn cake style that was decent. The chicken just didn't taste like anything. Corn cake-decent actually. In comparison to the other two dishes, this was the winner. Overall, the food just wasn't very good. Came here for Back to the Future trivia on a Tuesday. The bar usually opens at 10pm but for trivia it opens earlier since it starts at 7pm. We got there early to grab a table and had to wait a while before ordering drinks or food as they were just starting to open the bar and the cook was just coming in. The food choices are limited but they are ok. I had the tacos and they were a little dry. Would recommend the mac and cheese though. Towards the end of the night they started running out of beer choices which seemed a bit strange for a place like this. Would come here again but only for trivia as it ran very smoothly. read more

I was excited to try this new place in my neighborhood, so we gave it a whirl on Friday evening. Honestly, if I could give half stars, I would rate this place 3.5 stars and not 3. With both food and drinks, they are definitely on the right track but I think a few improvement are in order. From an atmosphere perspective, I loved the outdoor area and the inside looked like a cool place to hang. The servers were super friendly and it's a great spot for a summer drinking day. They have a fun drink menu with a lot of bourbon-inspired drinks (no surprise given the name). My husband loves bourbon and he really enjoyed the Sour Betty and Bourbon Fizz. I tried the Sour Betty from him and as a non-Bourbon lover, I have to say it was pretty tasty. I had the Desperado. Given that it had poblano-infused mezcal and cilantro simple syrup, I was really hoping for a refreshing yet spicy drink. Unfortunately, the bitters were a bit overpowering and that's all I could taste. I opted for a beer for my second drink and I have to give them props for having amazingly cold beers on draft. Hit the spot! For food, we ordered the wing appetizer, beef dip sandwich and shrimp po boy. The wings were sticky with an odd flavor that I couldn't quite place. They were on the dry side and would really called for some sort of accompanying sauce. The shrimp po boy was ok. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and crispy, which I loved. However, the menu stated there was a brown butter aioli, but I had hardly any if not zero sauce. Also, I knew it came with fresh herbs, but there was almost too much dill so I was picking it out of my teeth! The beef in the beef sandwich was nice and tender but the Au jus had almost too much smoke. It's as if someone accidentally knocked over a bottle of liquid smoke in the Au jus. It overpowered the sandwich to the point that smoke was all you tasted. For dessert, we ended up getting the pecan pie as they raved about it. Tastewise, it was decent. The crust was a bit hard. Overall nothing to write home about. Likely, I'll be back because it's in the neighborhood, but I hope I'm able to write a new review to change this to 5 stars! read more

Food is fantastic! Craw dads are a must also brisket was very good. Really enjoyed fruit and cheese plate and cobbler for dessert. Service was great, knowledgeable and friendly. Cocktail menu has a few very tasty items, best to ask for recommendations from staff. Wine by the glass list is really pretty decent, nice to see that, too often restaurants get the cheapest wine and sell it at the same price as what you would pay for a decent glass, not this place which is nice. This place was... odd. Hours say they open at 10 p.m. but we signed up for Back to the Future trivia so they opened at 7. We arrived at like 6:45 p.m. and it seemed like this place had literally just opened. The bartender wasn't really prepared for any customers and someone was still taking chairs down. There are barely any tables in here and the few booths were already occupied by teams waiting for trivia. Each booth held four people so not really conducive to trivia or other party where people need to sit together. It was a weird atmosphere and it just kind of got weirder. Someone set out a few folding tables last minute so we were able to sit somewhere together but it seemed like they hadn't even prepared to do that until we asked if there'd be extra seating or tables. They definitely weren't ready to accommodate a large group of people doing trivia. There was no server for the tables. Everyone had to go to the bar to order and their system for keeping tabs seemed confusing. It took a really long time to get drinks and at least two of our food orders weren't actually sent to the kitchen. My friends waited a really long time and we found out they hadn't even put the order in so we just waited even longer. It was really odd because they presumably smoked the brisket prior to having customers in but it took a really long time to get it from the kitchen to the plate. And it was only OK. The wings were not too great and the mac and cheese was just like anything I could have made at home. Not enough salt and just some basic cheese. Really, this place isn't that great. The service was pretty bad and the food was only OK. Also, none of the pictures in this Yelp review actually exist at this place - lobster? Definitely not on their tiny menu. All in all, a place I likely won't come back. When it's not having a special event it's just like every overpriced bar on this stretch of Division. And it's not even good. read more

This bar sucks. If you go you'll end up paying $20 to get into events only to hear the worst DJ's Chicago has to offer. It's not easy to get the attention of a bartender managing an empty bar because he's often busy staring women down and making them uncomfortable. Their drinks however are the worse!! No consistency in the pour and on an average night i get a real glass and my drink is larger. But on Sunday attending the bar to hear Midnight Sun the band my drink comes in this tiny azz plastic cup and cost me a bundle. Had a pretty bad experience here, which inspired me to write the first 1-star restaurant review I have ever given. Some of this experience seemed circumstantial and some did not. The only reason I'm writing a negative review is that all of it was avoidable with a bit more culpability and politeness. Two friends and I showed up at 8pm on a Saturday. The place was not completely packed (several empty tables). My first impression was that the menu was tiny, with almost no real southern or Cajun cuisine nor cocktails on it. Shrimp Po' Boy and that's about it. As someone who has a significant amount of family in the Deep South, this place is about as southern as McDonalds. We were approached by a server who warned us that they were short-staffed. We said that was not a problem, and ordered cocktails. That was the last we saw of our server. 25 minutes went by and no cocktails had arrived nor had we had a chance to put in for food. Just as we started to discuss leaving. the manager approached the table asking tersely if we wanted food. We mentioned that we knew they were short staffed and started to inquire what the wait would be for food, but we're cut off (again tersely), "Yup, it's just one of those nights. Would you like to order food?" Well, yeah we did...and sorry you've got it rough tonight, but without any sort of offer to comp, let alone an apology or accountability then we aren't going to sit there and suffer with you. Nevertheless we put in an order and tried to put a happy face on a little longer. 10 minutes later (35 minutes after putting in for cocktails) the drinks still had not arrived. We decided to get up and leave and notified the hostess as we were walking out. She looked annoyed but nodded. Again, I'm sure there was some unexpected circumstance that led to the rough night. Maybe someone quit that was supposed to work? But the entire time we were there there were two women - seemingly hostesses - just standing at the hostess stand and staring at the front door. Between that and the seemingly apathetic approach to acknowledging or apologizing for the horrendous service is the sort of basal thing you expect from a restaurant. Given the competition in the area it's hard to see this place being around much longer. Our night ended wonderfully when we went to a Cajun restaurant down the street called Fifolet. Amazing cocktails, insanely good gumbo and GREAT atmosphere and service. Skip Bourbon and go there (or literally any other restaurant) instead. read more

The Wings & the beef and grits are to die for!!! Good food, Good drinks & good atmosphere hanging out in the patio. Ordered the grilled cheese and collard greens also and it was amazing. We had a private party here this past Saturday evening and it was fantastic! Terry and the rest of the staff here were great! They made sure we were taken care of the entire night and were there to facilitate everything we needed. They have a really cool event space on the second floor you can rent out and there is a private bar, bathrooms, a photo booth, and a stage for entertainment. Definitely recommend this spot for your next private event or make a stop here for a fun night out! This place is open late which is nice too. The food is surprisingly great for a bar, the chicken and brisket was out of this world! read more

I found some glass in my nachos. The waiter refused to believe me at first but after he brought it back to the kitchen they saw where they had swept it in my food by accident because of a broken beer glass they had been cleaning up in the process. I don't understand how they would let that happen, even though it was one small shard. No one should ever go to this restaurant to enjoy a show or a get a drink, meal, ANYTHING. Having replaced my beloved shambles, I felt obligated to check this place out sooner than later. The atmosphere is typical division street- large outdoor sidewalk seating area with wide open doors and plenty of seating inside as well. We had a little bit of a rocky start. The server listed off the bourbon options as promised by the hostess (the restaurant is still finalizing their bourbon list for print), but when asked anything about the options, our server didn't have any advice, details, or guidance. For a restaurant who's name includes bourbon, the ability to make bourbon recommendations would be great. We decided to stay for food and again, the server's lack of menu knowledge made us a little unsure. The salad options include a stone fruit salad. When we asked what stone fruit was, the server wasn't sure. We ordered it anyway as well as the beef and grits. The food did not disappoint (thus the four stars). Great flavor, well put together. Overall the restaurant is a great new place to check out and I'm sure the staffs' ability to help patrons navigate the menu will improve with time! read more

I booked my 30th birthday party here this past weekend. Their manager Terry was very helpful at first, quick responses and clarity on everything I needed for me to book my party here. I booked over a month in advance. I wanted a private space for my friends and family to enjoy. I drove in from Detroit to celebrate my birthday here. I asked the questions and was told the space would be private from 8:00 - 10:30 pm, I would have control of the music during that time and could still decorate. The week before is when I found out it would be fully decorated in all out Halloween. Not what I wanted but I went and checked out the place and was like okay fine one speed bump not ideal but I'll roll with it. When I went and visited I was told by Terry he would not actually be the manager working and instead he said Michael would be there and I could reach out to him for anything I needed and he was up to speed on the party. Michael did not have great communication but nothing too concerning. Fast forward to the night of my party. All of my family is already there and some friends. I arrive at about 8:40 and there is a DJ setting up and people not from our party in the space. I am immediately confused because this is not what I booked or discussed via Peerspace with Terry. I asked the manager Michael what is going on and he starts talking to me like I'm the one in the wrong, very defensive saying there's a Halloween bar crawl like it's no big deal. Then proceeds to tell me I only had the space private until 9 and that I should have known that and that there's a DJ who within 15 mins turned my music off and started playing his own. Michael also proceeds to tell me it's Halloween weekend they'd never book a party past 9. He did not try to do anything as the bar flooded with people in costumes besides give wristbands to my party so no one else drank on the bar tab paid for by me for my guests. He was not helpful, or sorry, he was actually beyond rude and made me and my family feel like we were wrong. He just looked at us like what do you want me to do and like it was nothing. The first at least hour of my party I spent trying to apologize and explain to my guests what a mess up this bar did and in tears. I could have never imagined more of a nightmare of a party. My sister was the one who came up with blocking off the back of the bar when the manager should have been trying to help figure out some type of solution. Michael agreed so there's one thing he did to be helpful and brought back buckets of the champagne I asked for. If there was an acknowledgement of wrong doing on their part and a solution given to fix it in the moment I would have gotten over it and moved on but the way it was handled was what made it so much worse. I have sent them messages/emails asking to discuss some type of refund and an apology for what they let happen. No response. I could not be more disappointed and angry with a bar and their managers. read more

I was lucky enough to visit Bourbon on Division last weekend for their grand opening. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was excellent. This isn't just some burger joint...they have definitely gone for higher end food with unique takes on Southern cuisine and flavors. I was really surprised with how great the food was and my wife wants to make it a regular dinner spot whenever we make the drive to Chicago. I'm a beer drinker but saw a lot of craft cocktails being made that tempted me (even though I never drink liquor). Also, they are open super late every night....in my younger years (before kids), this would have been a prime spot to close out the late night after all of the 2am bars close. Wow. Just wow. Food- amazing. Waitstaff- super friendly. Drink selection- nailed it. I came into Bourbon with a few friends and was so glad I did because I got to try a ton of different dishes, including the pulled chicken sandwich with Alabama white sauce (sounds fancy, don't know what it was, but I could bathe in it), their pimento grilled cheese (asparagus say whaaat!), And their shrimp po'boy. Holy cannoli. Each one was a knockout! Tastes fresh, feels homemade, and is actually plated to fit into a stand-alone restaurant, not just a bar on division. Oh! And the ambiance is great, love the wood! Music explored too many genres for my taste, but once it got busy, you couldn't even tell. Can't wait to go back when it's taken off! read more

I had stumbled upon this place during Division Fest. Some friends had decided to order food while we were in there against my wishes considering there was a multitude of food trucks parked right outside....never have I regretted something so much. The food was spectacular. I tried the chicken BBQ Sandwich with side of fries. (They Make their own house ketchup. I hope they decide to bottle that one day.) I also tried the pimento grilled cheese. This was my first experience with pimento cheese and my God, Chef Bateman made it worthwhile. We ordered it with a side salad and it came with Honey-lemon vinaigrette. (I hope they bottle that as well.) The food experience was amazing and the staff was very helpful in choosing items. The chef even brought out our plates and checked up on us periodically to see how we were doing. I'm definitely going again probably tonight with some friends. Great new addition on Division! Stopped in for a better beer at Do Division and stayed long enough for the hunger to set in. Their housemade pimento grilled cheese with PICKLED ASPARAGUS was to die for. Brought me back this week and I had the shrimp Po' Boy with dill (I'm a sucker for summertime dill) and this super delicious brown butter aioli. Skinny fries with with herbs on the side, I'm not a huge fan of their house bourbon ketchup but my friend practically licked the plate. My friend and I also split the "Carrot Cake or Something like it" and he was legitimately disappointed that he wasn't able to finish the last three pieces of southern comfort glazed carrot because he was so stuffed. Had a couple of solid Craft beers (at a decent price) and of course had to try a craft cocktail. I had a Boulevardier but my buddy had their take on a negroni with Barreled aged gin. I'm all about interesting foods and beverages and the bartender was very accommodating. He let us taste the gin by itself and even gave us a taste of a beer I was sure about. Love to try new places in the 'hood... Bourbon on Division is new & exceptional! The food is authentic North Carolinian and priced just under average for this area. She had the chicken & dumplings, delicately smoked, delightful dense southern dumplings served with a delicious pea puree w/lemon. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich with a delicious white BBQ sauce like I've never had before, served with a nicely dressed mixed greens salad with smoked cherry tomatoes.
