Looking at all the other reviews we were clearly right to pick this place. Lots to talk about here. We got there and we got to our table right away. Our server Lena was just wonderful and explained the different options with the menu. While it was busy, she took the time to chat with us, ask where we were from, and was just super pleasant. By contrast, the table next to us did nothing but complain about everything from too much dressing on the Caesar salad to the steak is overcooked to the dessert came out to fast..... OMG, what gloomy Guses. The staff could have cured cancer and they still would have complained, but the staff was 100% professional and did everything in their power to make sure these hosers were happy. We had no such issues. On the contrary, our experience reminded us of a restaurant in NOLA called Gallatoire, which I reviewed last year. We ordered drinks and a bottle of wine and they came out quickly - the cocktails were fantastic. I started with their seafood chowder which was easily as good as some of the stuff we had 2 years ago in Victoria...... some of the best chowder I've ever had. For our mains I had a ribeye with bernaise sauce and the usual sides. The steak was cooked perfectly - I even cut it open to show Lena and it was absolutely spot on. Maybe the guy next to us had an overdone steak but mine was 100% perfect. The garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms with garlic and thyme were the stuff of legends - Gallatoire good. My wife had the avocado Super Bowl with grilled salmon that she described as "out of sight." The food was as good as the Wakefield Inn or Antoine's, or Gallatoire. This is seriously outstanding food. My wife let it slip that it was my birthday so before you know it, there is a crème brûlée on the table for the two of us to split...... to be expected, it was incredible. At one point the manager dropped in to chat with us, thanked us for coming, and encouraged us to visit their Ottawa location. Make no mistake, we will. This night was unquestionably the highlight of the trip. The ambience, the service, the food, and the drinks were all world class - I'm not saying that lightly. We had no idea this place was going to be this outstanding. Chop deserves 6 or 7 stars. One of the best places we've ever been to. Simply outstanding. read more

This location is sooooo nice and relatively new (i think only 2-3 years). Came on Tuesday for dinner and it was so busy. To a point where my server was no where to be found half way through dinner. So service was not the best. Found the food on the saltier side as well, the soup, the gravy was all too salty for my liking. The soup i even had to send back. But i do like that u can add $10 to any steak for a soup/salad. They offered me a different soup and end up charging me for it... had to speak to the manager to get it sorted. You know, the place is fine. Is it amazing? No. But is it decent value? Yes. Is the service and decor lovely? Yes, as long as you don't sit near the breezy entrance. The steak was quite good. The sides were all... mediocre. I'd probably give the 3.5 for the food, but the young people working there are so earnest, I'm bumping it up to 4. I also continued my habit of ordering chimichuri sauce at steak houses and finding it... wanting. This one tasted of wilted, but "fresh" parsley and a lot of very dusty tasting dried oregano, with some red wine vinegar and a bunch of oil. Meh. The baked potatoes are basically either boiled or steamed whole potatoes that are "baked" for a few minutes in a salamander. At least that's what it looked and tasted like. I would pass on it. The seasonal vegetables were some squash and green beans. They were both quite crunchy, which was great for the beans, but less so for the squash. The French fries were... fine. Weirdly firm exterior. Not crispy so much as an odd texture of firm and smooth exterior. The inside was moist and decently fluffy. Probably their most successful side dish. I actually took the leftover veggies home and made it into a casserole because I didn't want to waste the food. We also tried their shrimp cocktail. Wow that was really not good. You could totally tell they were poorly frozen prawns that probably got over boiled before being chilled. I would skip these. The cocktail sauce was the best thing about this dish. The steak for two was actually quite good, nicely cooked and tasted beefy. Bonus points for arriving hot. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. I think I would come back to try another variation of their offerings, but maybe sticking to the very basics of steak and fries, and eschewing anything too far beyond that. read more

What a great experience on a beautiful rooftop patio in Toronto's financial district. I started with a fantastic French Onion Soup, then had a phenomenal sirloin steak dinner (seared at 1800F). The service here was excellent. I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's new job and the waitress definitely made an effort to make it special. For our dessert, the cook wrote congratulations on the plate! It was a nice detail that we appreciated. As well, the steak was delicious. I asked for medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. It was a lot of food for me, so I didn't finish it all. The ambiance is fancy and more upscale. It is definitely a place where you'll want to dress well. Had an absolutely delightful experience at this new-ish steakhouse downtown! We came for a work lunch and were warmly welcomed right away, shown to a seat of our choice and the menu introduced. After some research on the variety of appetizers, our orders were taken without delay and we settled into the comfortable seats. The food was delicious with zero misses. The tuna tataki was refreshing and a wonderful start to the meal. The chili garlic shrimp was fawned over by the whole table - definitely a fan favourite! I had the miso glazed salmon, which was delicately flavoured and amazingly tender, falling right off as soon as I touch it with my fork. A small point of improvement is that the rice pilaf which accompanied the salmon was just slightly disappointing - a bit too overcooked for my taste. As for the steaks, they were highly praised as expected and for the price point of amazing quality. Of course, we could not miss out on dessert - we had the pineapple upside down cake and the sticky toffee sundae, both of which were just incredible (and not too sweet!). I was also pleasantly surprised by the speed at which the food arrived, with barely a gap between the appetizers, mains, and desserts. Our server, Nikki, was such a joy throughout the entire meal. Her enthusiasm and warmth was absolutely contagious. We mentioned at the beginning that we were there to welcome a new colleague, and she so thoughtfully brought us a complimentary crème brûlée and an extremely sweet card towards the end of the meal. The level of care and attentiveness made the entire experience memorable, and we'll certainly be back! P.S. Chops has always been my favourite steakhouse, but we normally go to the Woodbridge location. I was super excited when I found out they were opening just across from Shangri La Hotel in downtown. It's located right at University and Adelaide, inside the Dream building so it's not easy to miss. We came during happy hour, so we got half a dozen of oysters and the chop burger. We did an upgrade for the artisan salad and I think we made a good choice since the burger was quite heavy if paired with fries. We also got the prime rib (our go to) with loaded mashed potatoes, which was also an upgrade. Our server Robin was super friendly and attentive. She knew her stuff and we were happy that she served us! We got the agave mocktail she recommended and it was just refreshing! The restaurant wasn't too loud when we went, but got busier after 6pm, so plan ahead of time if you want to take advantage of their happy hour which ends at 5:30pm. The restroom was kinda hidden upstairs but super clean. Their prices are definitely more affordable than the other steakhouses in the financial district. Ty e service was great, Cass was super patient and knowledgeable about their offerings for the evening and had great recommendations to our preferences. Chop brands themselves as casual elegant dining so it was the perfect dinner place after work and before the ballet which is right across the street. We started with the prime rib sliders and added another. My boyfriend had the Cesar salad and filet mignon medium rare which was cooked perfectly. My team had dinner here and overall we were impressed by the food and service. Chop is one of those restaurants that don't require a minimum payment for the dinner. On top of that, they provided a private room for us without me having to enquire about it. We have vegetarians in the team, who were quite happy with the vegetarian options. Other steakhouse need to take a page from Chop. The only hiccup was when the server asked if one of my teammate would like protein in his Avocado bowl with miso tofu, to which he said no. So the bowl came without the tofu. He literally thought protein = meat. Perhaps there should be clarity to the tofu being the protein. But overall, it was a lovely evening, and the Chop team was amazing. read more

I went with my friend for my birthday on Sunday, ambience was pretty high class, dim lighting, soft booth, spacious interior and it wasn't busy. I wanted to try surf and turf so I got the steak and lobster which was $56, the steak was extremely tough and hard to chew even though I got it medium rare but the lobster was really good and flavorful and the side of vegetables were perfectly spiced and al dente. An incredible dinner at Chop Steakhouse, and the classy, upscale ambience set the perfect mood for the night. We started with the marinated beet salad, and the combination of earthy, sweet, and tangy flavors worked together beautifully alongside some house ref wine. For the main, the ribeye steak was phenomenal as it was perfectly seared on the outside and beautifully done rare just the way I like it, served with a great side of crispy fries and roasted vegetables. To top off an already amazing meal, the staff was nice enough to ask and understand we were celebrating a new job and brought out a complimentary crème brûlée with "Congratulations" written on the plate. This was the most AMAZING experience! I live in Chicago, I was here in Toronto to celebrate my wife's birthday. My first impression as soon as my wife and I walked up was how nicely we were greeted by the 2 young ladies who seated us. We were instantly greeted by Bri our server who was very pleasant and patiently explained the menu. The wow factor was how they treated my wife once she stated she had a gluten allergy and that it was her birthday. The way the gentleman Nate and then the chef personally came to the table to reassure her that her she didn't have to worry across contamination and they would take great care while preparing her meal really meant a lot The food was really good and did not disappoint. I had dinner here a few nights ago and it was such an amazing experience. The ambiance definitely fits the financial district, and has a nice dim lighting which is perfect for an intimate get together or dinner. The servers were extremely polite and kept checking on us to make sure we were comfortable, make sure that the food was good and if we needed any drinks. They were also super knowledgeable with the menu and gave great recommendations. When our steaks came out, they even waited for us to cut our steak & make sure that it was cooked to our liking. We ordered the community bread which was so delicious, as it comes with a whipped brown butter, as well as the centre cut new york steak cooked medium rare. I have been here 2x to celebrate 2 birthdays. The 1st time I was amazed to realize this is a local chain resto. Both times the food was amazing. The quality is pretty amazing especially considering the price point. Mix that in with a killer reverse happy hour you can not go wrong. Stand outside are the canadian Manhattan, the ribeye, the garlic shrimp, and the fucking fries. I have been to other steakhouse in the TO that kind of sucked and spent way more $$##. Been there twice, found it okay but not among the great steak houses. I love prime rib and have had it both times. Unfortunately, it is nothing special. It is a little chewy, limited au jus and not much seasoning. I ordered the asparagus with it, and I love asparagus, these were so stringy I could only eat half. The starter wedge salad was not bad but nothing to write home about. I did find the service both efficient and friendly and eating on the roof outside was lovely, such a nice experience I would return (maybe try something). Reservation for 5 adults for a classy birthday dinner. Dressing up for the occasion was the first error in judgement as sneakers, ripped jeans and baseball hats were standard for the clientele. We were seated in a comfortable booth at the entrance. We ordered a round of drinks and a bottle of wine to start things off. We sipped our drinks dry and had to wait 10 minutes before our server arrived with the wine. The appetizers were good and she was accommodating with the dietary restrictions at our table. We ordered a second bottle of wine. There were no fresh glasses and she didn't have us sample it for quality before topping us up. (Usually when the bottles are $125+ they bring fresh glasses.) Everybody ordered steak medium-rare; all of us told her we prefer it more rare than medium. All steaks were overcooked. At the end of the meal she brought out a desert for the birthday boy which was appreciated. But overall I was disappointed in the experience. Should have gone to the Keg for the same price or less and a better ambiance. Or paid a little more and went to one of the high-end steakhouses nearby. read more

I was at Chop tonight with my daughter and a friend and we had the best dinner. What a beautiful restaurant, seating is comfortable and lighting great. Our server, Lauren, was very knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations when we asked. We shared an appetizer and each ordered a different entree. We loved every bite! How wonderful to have the chef, Nico, come out and talk to us, we felt special. I highly recommend Chop Steakhouse and can't wait to return. read more
