This was the first bbq place we tried in Lubbock, and we've ordered from here somewhat regularly for a few years now. I usually order the chopped brisket, and my favorite sides are mac & cheese, fried okra, and green beans. I also always get the banana pudding if they have it. It's some of the best banana pudding I've ever had. Within the last six months or so, the food has been a little more hit or miss. The mac & cheese was pretty bland the last time I ordered it, and my husband complained that his meat was dryer than usual. We'll probably keep ordering from them because I think Evie Mae's brisket is too peppery, but I do hope we see a return to the quality that got us hooked in the first place. read more

The food is really good. It's a great small town feeling eatery. If you need some barbecue and dessert, with a sweet tea this is the place. They're not always 100% accurate, but they're friendly. I love going here when I can. Only thing is the hours are strange. 3 hours for lunch and then sometimes 5 hours for dinner. I get it's a hard time, so maybe that's what it is. Hard to argue with that. They also have free pork rinds. Now to the important stuff. I had the Trail Boss sandwich and I loved it. It has ample Meats - excellent tender brisket, spicy sausage, and bacon. Very tasty sandwich. I had fried okra as a side, and it was well above average. Super crunchy. My daughter gave me a bite of her ribs, they were very tender and Smoky. I might order these if I come back again. She also had the green pepper mac and cheese and she says it was quite good. The brisket was a bit dry but good which was the only saving grace for this place. The Mac-n-cheese was watery, and the potato salad was made with Miracle Whip and sweetened. The corn bread muffins were dry and tasted like they were several days old at best. The fried okra was frozen from a bag. The pulled pork was pretty flavorless and needed a good dousing with the BBQ sauce. Thanks to some awesome yelpers who came before me we we're definitely looking to try out the food. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich and got the spicy Mac on the side. Yum! Smoke on the project was delish and the bbq sauce was a perfect pairing. They were out of the baked potato special which I was super looking forward too. Maybe next time! There were ten of us on a Friday night and it didn't faze the server at all. She had us wait a minute while they put together several tables and started passing out menus. The place is small, located in a strip mall, and offered free beer for dine in customers. Right off we ordered drinks and the an order of fries covered with brisket and cheese that was really tasty. Off the menu we got a cheesburger, beer battered onion rings, brisket, chicken, a chopped brisket sandwich, a "burger" that had a beef patty and was also covered with pulled pork and bacon if I recall correctly. Then there was a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich. And, cherry cobbler. The food was really good and the portions made sure no one left hungry. We just recently moved to Lubbock from Denver and were in the mood for BBQ. A quick search on yelp and I came across this restaurant. We figured a 5 star-rated restaurant after 50 reviews was worth the trip and we weren't disappointed. It is located in an unassuming strip mall which works well since there is plenty of parking. The fact that we went for lunch helped since we were the only ones in there for about 20 minutes. It started to fill up after noon. Upon walking in we were immediately made to feel welcome. One of the cooks saw us coming with our baby in a car seat and opened the door for us. Every other Employee in the restaurant greeted us when we walked in. The server was very friendly and once she learned it was our first time she was sure to run down the menu for us. We ordered the kitchen sink appetizer and this is a great way to try the fried mac and cheese bites, the spicy corn fritters, onion rings and the "hog wings" (basically a small riblet on the bone). All were delicious, it was hard to pick a favorite! I highly recommend you order out of the normal meat plates since they have some different things that all look great. My wife had the club sandwich which is made with BBQ meat, adding a great smoky flavor. I had the Frito Pie with brisket which takes the classic to a whole new level! Be sure to save room for the fried apple pie with ice cream - flaky and delicious! Everything is priced reasonably also, $10 per plate for the most part, a little more if you want multiple meats.
