Steamed beef dumplings with sauce
Matt B.

A small place with a small amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. The place is doesn't have the best decor, the inside looks similar to a renovated home turned restaurant. The service is friendly and timely. The food is a bit pricey but the steamed pork & beef dumplings I had were great. The sauce that came with it was a great add-on, it had a little bit of a kick which elevated the taste. This would be a decent place if you were craving some quick dumplings, steamed or fried.

Mongolian beef lunch $11.50

Tried the Mongolian Beef lunch today. Pretty tasty, but was on the oily side, as was my hot & sour soup, which is not par for the course. Hopefully a rare occurrence. Still enjoyed my food and looking forward to dining again!

Pink in my chicken and no flavor! I was referred this place, figured give it a try, pricy for nothing! Had to stop eating and finish the chicken and flavor it up some, so my money didn't go to waste.

Chicken and mushrooms

It's TAKEOUT Chinese food not an up scale sit down restaurant. 28$ for a regular platter with NO rice Or drink!!!!!!! For Lunch !!!! On top of that you would think the container would be packed to the lid. It's barely to the top of the container!!! Watch out!!! The food does taste good and is fresh. If they packed more food in or lowered the prices it would be worth it. But i would never order from here again !!!!

Steamed veggie dumplings, small General Tso Chicken, white rice, and a large wonton soup. (Dollar bill in the photo for size reference)

#ThankYouThursday to the workers at Chopstix Teaneck, for being there to serve me up some hot and tasty food on a cold, dark pandemicky night! I love to support local businesses, especially during a hard economic time like this. Chopstix is one of very few kosher Chinese/Asian restaurants on this side of the Hudson, and especially in this immediate area. I pass by here all the time, but have never eaten here before. Tonight I decided to change that. I called ahead for a pickup order. The man at the counter was really nice, and had my order ready to go when I arrived. Taste-wise, I wasn't sure what to expect from Chopstix. Traditional Chinese cuisine isn't exactly kosher, and there are times when the kosher version of a food can fall flat on the tastebuds of someone who is not used to eating kosher. I'm happy to say that Chopstix exceeded my expectations. The General Tso chicken was crispy and saucy (GREAT flavor!), although next time I will ask them to make it spicier. Even the little bit of broccoli garnish underneath it was cooked to perfection. The veggies in my vegetable dumplings were tasty and fresh. The wontons in my wonton soup had very little meat in them, but were still doughy and delicious in the hot chicken broth. Overall, my meal tasted authentic, but without all the grease and heaviness you get with the food from some non-kosher Chinese restaurants. Chopstix is a little pricier in comparison to other Chinese takeouts, and the portions are smaller, but the food served at Chopstix seems to be higher quality and made with care. Definitely coming back for more!

Good kosher take out. General Taos chicken outstanding. Their fried noodles are the cheap bagged kind unfortunately.

It is similar to Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine in ways, in that there is an emphasis on spicy foods, although the spice profiles differ. It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.

I've also noticed that beef orders are touch and go, because the meat pieces tend to be rather tough. That said, I love the seasoning and saucing here. Tough meat aside, their beef and string bean meal has become one of my recent favorites. My husband raves about their spicy Chinese eggplant dishes, and he's been pretty happy about any chicken dish he's ordered. So many the golden rule is to stick with chicken over other proteins? Unlike other Chinese takeout spots in the area, they don't take delivery orders. Delivery orders can be fulfilled either through UberEats or through their website, which seems to outsource orders to another delivery service. I've used the nameless delivery service once and got the order just fine, but the ordering process is somewhat inflexible (e.g. my husband's favorite order from the lunch special menu isn't available as a standalone entree and there's no way to make those requests through the website, so we had to do a pickup order just so we could ask a person to make it happen). There are very few parking spots out front, so we've often had to double park when picking up orders, with one person waiting in the car while the other runs in to pay.

I don't like that they put lettuce in it. Didn't taste like cabbage to me. I ask for it without that usually. Decent though. One time I called and they were out of lo mein noodles! How does that even happen?! Egg Foo Young: this is actually pretty good from here. Greasy though. Pizza Egg Roll: I'm a fan of these from Kennedy Fried Chicken, but not a huge fan from here. Greasy and dare I say too much cheese? I'm a huge fan of cheese, but it was almost too much and not enough marinara inside the balance wasn't there. This is the only Chinese place in the area that has these. They also have Philly cheese steak rolls which I haven't tried yet (had them at a place in Teaneck though and they were so good!) We most recently came in on a Friday night with a 6 pm reservation. Yes, we had to flag down one of the harried but cheerful women working here to place our order. But look around - there's not a white tablecloth in sight. You may have to catch someone's eye, and there's nothing wrong with that. By 6:15 pm, half of our order was on the table, and we were gleefully chomping on fried dumplings and pillowy buns. The small but clean and modern space was packed - packed with people, but also with so much happiness. Almost everyone was smiling, laughing, and joking as they tucked into this feel-good array of comfort classics. Jajangmyun, jjampong, khan poong, gochu japchae... all of these traditional dishes sang. Even a simple plate of sauteed vegetables was delicious. And everything spent just seconds between being finished in the kitchen and sitting in front of us. Is it cheap? No, nor should it be. The ingredients are of the freshest, including the seafood. The cooking couldn't be better. And this is no grimy hole in the wall. If it were a French bistro, you'd have no problem with the prices. So pay these fine folks what they deserve, and enjoy.
