Tough time at Jade House today as their chef apparently quit, and it's husband and wife owners in the kitchen! Restaurant is busy with walk-in and phone/online orders. Looks like 5 & 6 year old boys manning the register! Everyone was courteous and pleasant! Order my usual chicken in garlic sauce, pork fried rice, and hot & sour soup. Soup was very hearty but had next to no flavor as it seems the chef forgot to add the vinegar, which gives the sour taste. Added some of my own, and soup was fine! Pork fried rice had a few visible pieces of pork in it and was okay. Chicken had a real garlic smell to it, but not much in the flavor. It was decent, but lacking in chicken. Giving 4 stars to be generous! I'll give them another try in the future once they have a new chef!

General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Drop Soup

As someone who grew up on the east coast, I don't understand why California can't make Chinese food. Moving to LA has made me appreciate classic Chinese American food and Jade House does not fail to deliver (both figuratively and literally). I ate here for the second time while I was here for a wedding, and it's just so classic. The General Tso's Chicken is crispy and delicious--the fried rice is a perfect complement to the meal, and the egg drop soup just soothes my hungover soul after a night of debauchery and absolutely blasted frenzy. California, take note. I don't need Chinese food to be "healthy." I know what I'm getting into, and if I want to feel like death after eating a super greasy meal, that is my choice as an American. Local residents of Fort Lee/Pal Park/wherever else these magical Chinese fairies deliver to--enjoy the commonly taken for granted blessing that is a solid Chinese American cuisine locally.

Went to Rahongbu Malatang for some dry pot on a weeknight for dinner. It's in the same restaurant…read moreas Hong Chun Cheon, which serves dakgalbi. The dry pot here is similar to others, where you serve yourself from a raw bar, the ingredients are weighed, and they cook it for you to the spice level of your liking. I don't like that noodles are charged separately from the weight of the other ingredients (vegetables, fish cakes, meat, etc.) Because of this, i almost opted to order one of the dakgalbi dishes on the menu for Hong Chun Cheon. However, the prices listed on the menu are for one serving. When i tried to order, the lady at the counter explained I had to order two order minimum. So the real price for one order of cheese dakgalbi is $51.90, not $25.95. This was annoying because I was the only person who wanted dakgalbi, which mean i ended up not getting it. I did get my dry pot though. They make it spicy just like everyone else. At about $16 per pound with separate charges for noodles, it's slightly more expensive than other dry pot restaurants in the area. I eventually wanna come back for the dakgalbi, but I'm gonna need to make sure i have a partner beforehand.

Upon getting a table, you can order either the mala options or the chicken bbq (닭갈비) options. If…read moreyou're getting mala, you can self-serve any ingredients you'd like - malatang was cheaper ($14.95/lb) than the dry pot version ($16.95/lb). There aren't too many options but still ample to make a delicious mala dish. I got the Malatang with the Medium level which was the best for me, although I was sniffling a bit towards the end. I think Mild is also a great option, as it was still flavorful with a slight heat. We had a bit of a wait on Friday night as expected but luckily, upon being seated it's just a matter of waiting for the kitchen to prepare your dish. They offered us complimentary sweet potato tempura on the house which helped curb our hunger in the meantime. There are only three people working front of house so please be patient!

The dining room was empty when we rocked up on a weekday late afternoon, and it was nice to sit at a table by the window for a street view. The staff was quick and efficient, and we got a super heavy tea pot of hot barley tea in no time. Food came out without delay. I love how theirs comes with loads of veggies, even as I question the use of green beans which is a first for me (to see them in sweet and sour pork). And while it was distracting and would rather have the dish without the beans, the star of the fish, the pork, was just right and we gobbled it up. I hope they stay open for a long time.

The noodle sauce is very heavy (I liked it), and the noodle texture is perfect. The portion of sweet & sour pork is small (I usually get 3-4 people portion, but this one is good for 2 people). The service is great (very friendly), and they give you hot tea for free. The restaurant is very spacious, and good for group of people. They do have private parking lot. - Noodle with special black bean sauce (4/5): very heavy and deep sauce - Noodle with spicy black bean sauce (4/5): light sauce & moderate spicy - Sweet & sour pork (3/5): small portion, and average taste
