I had never been here, but had driven by it when it read, "a salad concept", which I always found to be funny. Wow. Salad. What a concept. I went in because I wanted something healthier for lunch. I was greeted by someone when I walked up and chose the shrimp roll salad. It came with romaine, shrimp, pickled radish, radicchio, oyster crackers, and heirloom tomatoes with a green goddess dressing. It took 5 people to figure out if the dressing had avocado in it and I had to go back to the counter to ask if there were any shrimp in it because I didn't see any and didn't know if they had accidentally been left out. The guy was able to find a shrimp on the bottom. As a I ate the salad, I counted about four shrimp. Four. There were four shrimp in my $13 dollar salad. There were approximately 3 baby heirloom tomatoes and 4 pickled radishes. It was mainly all lettuce and radicchio. It was also REALLY bland and the textures were all kind of the same other than the 4 extra bland shrimp and the 8 extra bland oyster crackers. I would probably feel a little better about my boring salad if it hadn't been so expensive. It was $15 and some change for a salad and tea. The service was good, the space was modern and clean, but the price point and the lack of flavor might make me think twice before coming back. read more

I tried the Chopt yesterday for the first time and ordered the classic Cobb salad. The salad itself was decent although I feel overpriced for what you get. I'm not the biggest fan of a chop salad typically but still decided to give them a try. I don't feel the employees were very welcoming or friendly which was a disappointment for trying a place for the first time and also wasn't offered a bag for my salad. Great first impression. I was excited to learn about this new salad shop but had no idea what to expect. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It has a very nice and bright dining room with booth and table seating as well as outdoor dining. I decided to go with the Mexicali Vegan salad instead of creating my own. It comes with a delicious avocado base dressing that was fantastic. The bread that they offer you was fresh and delicious as well. I didn't purchase a drink as they have cucumber lemon infused water for free! My favorite. I ate my meal while listening to great Caribbean music playing throughout the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and professional. My salad was $9.83 which is about average for a good salad. I will definitely be returning. I frequent Willow Lawn often and did not know this place existed. I stumbled upon it when my husband and I were looking for a quick lunch spot and it was a great pick. First, I was like that salad will be too much but then I started eating it and it was gone. Absolutely delicious. Kale caesar with chicken is a must. My husband got the Nashville hot chicken salad and loved it as well. It was quick, easy and they had a variety of salad options, toppings and dressings. I knew absolutely nothing about this place before I stopped in, I just wanted to try something different. Like, even as I was ordering I didn't realize that they would chop all the salads. I am passionate about very few things, but the idea that every salad should be a chopped salad with dressing already on it is one of them - this place is made for me! So why only 3 stars? I tried the Cobb salad and when I got to my chopper, she asked whether I wanted the recommended dressing. I said, "Is it ranch?" and she said it was Dijon. In my mind this meant Honey Mustard, which I enjoy. During this, there was a lady next to me who was tasting multiple dressings, commenting on them, and deciding among them. I felt she was overreacting (it's just salad dressing), but it turns out I was the one UNDERreacting. The Dijon dressing was WAY too spicy for me (I can barely handle mild salsa) and totally ruined my salad. I probably ate 1/4 of it. Everyone in my party had one thing "wrong" with their salad that ruined it, so it was not a great experience, mostly based on our poor choices. None of us were able to finish our food. If I am brave enough to try this place again, I will take a note from the lady who was next to me (forget politeness!) or maybe just get dressing on the side? read more

This was my first time trying a restaurant of this kind. There aren't too many salad based establishments around, so I was curious to try it. I can say that this was a great choice. This place is super nice! Had my first experience this week and I loved it! First, I love the atmosphere, super chill, great music and really clean and bright. It took me a minute to figure out the menu and what I wanted because there were so many options. They also do a special menu that they rotate every 60 days and when I walked in it was flavors of Vietnam! They had salad bowls themed like ban mi etc. I wanted to try it but since it was first time there, I wanted to try something original. I ordered the Mediterranean bowl and let me tell you, it was delicious!! I'm not that big of a salad person but they give you huge portions and everything was so tasty! You tell them what you want and if you want to add anything extra to your bowl. They then dump all of it into a huge bowl then CHOP (get it :P) everything up into small pieces with the dressing. They then place it back into your original bowl and it comes with a slice of bread. The guy that helped me was fantastic! I wish I could have remembered his name but it was his last shift because he was going back to school. Overall, love the atmosphere and great tasting salads! read more

Well to start off, you pick your type of lettuce, toppings, from an assortment of eggs, sprouts, beans, cheese, nuts, etc to be added to your little bowl. Then the bowl is handed off to person #2 and flipped over on a cutting board type surface..and then person #3 comes to chop it in to small pieces with this big "seesaw" type knife, the person #4 takes the chopped salad and ask if you want dressing ? .....Just to many hands ON and IN the salad. ...then person #5 ask if you want a piece of bread with it?... I've been counting down for Chopt to open. I loved getting their salads when we lived in DC, and I couldn't wait to get them again. We have some good lunch salad options in the Willow Lawn area, but Chopt helps kick it up a notch. I personally love trying out the Destination Salads. The most recent one I had was the Mexican Street Corn Caesar Salad, which was probably one of the best salads I have ever gotten at a Chopt. It has the perfect level of spice, but also wasn't overloaded with unhealthy ingredients to completely negate eating a salad for lunch. Do yourself a favor, and download the app to order. If you order ahead, they usually estimate about 30 minutes, but you will probably wait this long (or more) in line if you go at lunch time. You currently cannot order through the website for the Willow Lawn location, so you have to use the app to avoid the line, but it is WELL WORTH IT! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE This place!!!! This is my favorite lunch to go in Richmond. I have gotten their Mexicali Vegan , the Santorini salad and the Kebab. The place is unassuming on the outside but step inside and you notice things like the lemon infused water before you step in line and then the salad station, where you order your salad. It is clean and the staff is super helpful to guide you through the menu and which ones are the the tastiest. I wish this place was close to work but I am so grateful that Richmond has this delicious and tasty option in Willow Lawn. I think I may head there again today ... My first visit to Chopt and it was good. The salad options are vast and the service is fast. I will say that it is pricey and that if you make your own combination it's going to be over $15 for the salad if you like a lot of toppings. That, to me, is a bit much. Aside from the high price, the food is good. The bowl is a good size, comes served with a slice of bread. The ingredients are fresh and fun with lots to choose from. I had the Mexican Chicken Ceasar which was spicy with pickled peppers and cool with avocado and a creamy dressing. Substitutions aren't a problem at all which is great, I chose a lower calorie dressing. My son had the lunchbox that comes with a protein and two sides for $6.00. Overall, I like it. I likely won't make this a regular thing just due to the cost but when craving a creative salad that I don't have to make, Chopt will be on my list. read more

Chopt fills a niche that Richmond sometimes struggles with: a casual counterserve spot for healthy food. I've made two trips to Chopt in the past week and have been satisfied both times. On my first visit, I got the smoky Santa Cruz with chicken. A southwestern style grain salad with quinoa, it felt like a full meal between the grains, black beans, and chicken, and I enjoyed the smoky flavor of the chicken. On my second visit, I opted for the spicy santorini, another grain bowl, with cabbage, greens, Greek chicken and feta. This salad was definitely tasty, but I felt like it was missing some more color, maybe from tomatoes or another acid. A nice touch I enjoyed was that your salad is chopped directly in front of you and you can literally eyeball the amount of dressing you want. I grabbed a nice cucumber and lemon infused water on the way out. Overall, nice spot for a healthy meal. Makes you feel like you haven't been violating all your New Years resolutions only two weeks into 2018. read more

I made the mistake of 1) going during lunchtime 2) not ordering ahead 3) ordering a feature item. The line was long (like nearly to the bathroom) but fine it's a new joint and folks want to try it. My feedback is about the workers knowing what I ordered and executing it appropriately. I ordered a Mexican street corn ceaser. It was pictured to have fire roasted corn, red onions and chicken. I had to stop them when they put radishes on the salad in place of the onion and ask for the street corn which looked like dried corn kernels mixed with Fritos. Which I got double of when there was a hole from the lack of red onion. Now seriously? I don't mean to complain. Just tell me you don't have the ingredients and give me the option to pick another. First visit was pleasantly surprising. It's a glorified salad bar I'm thinking. I stood corrected as soon as I walked in. The staff member who greeted us was full of energy and enthusiastic. There's a lot going on and she explained everything. We picked out what we wanted and moved to the next station. Same thing. The staff member made you feel like -hey I got this and we want you to enjoy the food and atmosphere. I saw some patrons on lunch break from other stores in there; that's usually a good sign. You could tell they were already regulars. I had the Caesar with chicken and added olives. You can make it your own. Doesn't have to be a plain ole Caesar salad. I recently visited Chopt with my lovely wife on a Wednesday around 7pm. Once we arrived and interacted (not welcomed) by the cashier we were informed several salad dressings were unavailable. I requested alternate dressings (plural) and was told "we been out those for awhile too". For a $12 salad that is supposedly prepared with "house-made" dressings this is unacceptable. Most employees were nonchalant and at best seemed inconvenienced by my presence. If I owned or managed a "salad" restaurant I would ensure the "salad dressings" listed on the menu were available - especially at 7pm on a Wednesday. Not impressed. Just another cash grabbing, flashy franchise. I ordered their Classic Cobb Salad and a Diet Coke through Door Dash and was pretty disappointed. The salad was supposed to come standard with grilled chicken, avocado, bacon bits, hard boiled egg, grape tomatoes, etc. What I got was a bowl of chopped lettuce, bacon bits, and maybe one grape tomato sliced up.I did also get hard boiled egg and avocado, but I think it was only because I had chosen to "add" extra of both when placing the order. I paid extra anyway. So essentially, for $10.50, I got a bowl of lettuce, dressing, one grape tomato and some bacon bits. Then for another $2.00, I got avocado and egg that was supposed too be included, and no chicken at all. Oh, and tack on that they charge $1.99 for a 12oz can of Diet Coke. The only complaint I have is the wait times. Because of corona, I've only ordered for pickup or delivery so I don't have to wait inside of places. I've ordered ahead here multiple times for a 20-30 minute pickup time, only to have to wait an extra 20-30 minutes once I arrive. People that get into line immediately get their food, even though I had ordered ahead with plenty of time for food to be prepared. Maybe the flow isn't working as they want it to, but that has deterred me from ordering in the future. read more

I love Chopt. I put off going her for a while because it seemed so intimidating! If you make your own salad and go crazy with toppings, it can be really expensive! I have found a keeper in the Santa Fe Salad, by adding chicken and one extra veggie, it gets pricey (around $13) but the salad is HUGE and keeps me full all afternoon. The app is awesome and ordering ahead and picking up is a breeze. They have dedicated parking for to-go orders and everyone has been friendly. This is my new go-to spot! read more

I wasn't sure what to expect, I didn't read any reviews, just saw a sign for this place and decided to try it. I glanced at the menu and decided to try the steakhouse salad in lieu of creating my own. I wasn't sure if the process of ordering, getting my food chopt'd and paying (it's not that order). The staff was friendly and walked me thru it. When I got my food I looked at it and thought "this looks good!" And it was. I got the salad as it comes and it definitely has a kick to it. I can taste the jalapeño peppers and the vinegar and I like it. If you are not a fan of vinegar I would definitely not get this. The greens are fresh and chopt'd well. The steak is more like sliced sandwich meat but it's not bad. I sat in and ate, there is plenty of space and lots of natural light as well as regular lighting. Although not every salad on the menu is "healthy", you should definitely check out the new salad spot, Chopt, in Willow Lawn. I tried their Mediterranean Falafel and it was awesome!! I asked for the dressing mixed in thinking I would actually get to it quickly but got distracted with work. An hour or so later I was pleasantly surprised to find my salad was still crisp not soggy so the dressing it came with was not applied with a heavy hand. My prayers have been answered. I have been waiting for a salad place exactly like this and the heavens opened up and placed this amazing salad shop right here in my backyard. Locally sourced. Check. Organic. Check. DELICIOUS. check. I went for the pairing a combo sized salad and a cup of soup. I got the Mexican ceaser with chicken.. the cojita herb ceaser dressing and the soup was a Mexican chicken soup. First that tasted like the freshest salad I've ever ate in my life. Second I loved that they ask you how much dressing. And that dressing was magic. The hint of spice and the zesty of the lime.. yaaaas. I need a bottle of that in my life. Their menu has a lot of different salads to choose from! But, typically I either get the caesar or just chose to make my own! When you make your own, you can choose 5 things to add, the type of lettuce and dressing. I got spinach and arugula salad with egg whites, cheddar cheese, tortilla chips , celery and balsamic. It was exactly what I wanted so of course I loved it! They have a ton of toppings to choose from and a lot of different lettuce selections so you can't go wrong! After your salad is placed into the bowl, then comes the fun part where they chop it all up! I think that may be what won me over! I always get baby spinach or arugula to avoid a mouth full of lettuce, at chopt this isn't the case! They will chop until you tell them to stop. Amazing! I can't wait to return! Also, if you frequently visit like I do, would highly recommend grabbing the app. Through this you can order your food for pick up, and you can add your credit card and pay through the app once you visit as well! The last time I was at a Chopt location was in NYC well over 15 years ago. I recently found out they had a location in the willow lawn area and was more than happy to go chwck them out,see I was a regular when I worked in NYC so I was excited . I walked in and obviously everything looked diffrent. The young lady behind the counter asked if I wanted to create my own or go with their Salad options,ok so this was new I thought but I always made my own in NYC so I told her "Ill create my own thanks". I get the Romaine with chick peas,tomatoes,beets,grilled chicken,sunflower seeds,bacon bits (extra for some reason) and avocado with their white balsamic vinaigrette. Well $17 dollars later I regretted my decision to make my own and should've opted for one of their options lol. All good the salad was amazing as always the atmosphere is very laid back and the seating arrangement is very comfortable and laid back.
