    The fun, albeit small, interior

OK, Yelpie culinary compatriot folks, for my 600th review, I will make it a special find. Showing guests around Nevada City and craving an early afternoon coffee, we just stumbled upon this place. Tucked away behind a nice, cozy yard in a small, unassuming Victorian building is this coffee/tea/chocolate shop! It is small, independent, creative, and an awesome alternative to Starbucks or Peets or any mega coffee corporation. I will use one word to describe it. MAGICAL. It is like walking into an unbelievable wonderland of specialty, boutique chocolate! What strikes one immediately is the vast array of chocolate bars on shelves. It is unbelievable. Again, not the mega corporate chocolate enterprises, a la Hershey, but small independent chocolate enterprises from around the world. Just be prepared it is pricey, like $11-$14 a bar in some cases, yet the selection is mouth watering tantalizing. After looking over bars with incredibly interesting ingredients, I settled on two bars of their own brand chocolate, one spicy, at $5. apiece. They were both excellent and well worth it. Super delicious and very good quality. We ordered coffee drinks, and I had a cold cocoa coffee that was excellent and refreshing. This place has more than chocolate and coffee, so go ahead, enter the world of deliciousness, and explore a truly fun place.

What's worse than mediocre? It sucked?!?? That's how we felt after our experience. Maybe we just came at the wrong time?!?!? When we walked in, the place was m a g I c a l. There were so many different kinds of chocolate from all over the world! The menu was insanely appetizing that I wanted to try everything! I ordered the only dessert on the menu called Choco-Gato, ice cream with ganache, some kind of beans and hot chocolate. I also ordered a Dark Chocolate Brownie, but the guy said it was frozen and they don't have a microwave. So I went for the Truffle Cake Instead. I figured I should order two things for two adults and two kids to share. What we got was a joke. There were three small scoops of golf-sized balls of ice cream drowned in hot chocolate. It was like soup! The Truffle Cake was hard to cut and it was like eating fudge. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things? Oh and the kids pointed out there's a microwave. Huh. Did he not want to use it?? I wonder what's up with that?? Was that guy having an off day or something? I don't know... but I'm definitely not ordering anything from their menu again.

International chocolate selection, ceremonial cacao, jewelry, art, peaceful vibes. Be sure to pick up extra bars of their Choquiero to take home with you.

Great selection of chocolates from all over the world. We had a House Cacao, an affogato and a brownie...all were amazing!

There are a few must see places to be educated and enlightened. The Choquiero of Nevada City is one of those places. Yes, it expensive but you don't visit this place everyday or even every month. It is a very unique boutique store. Once you have tasted their chocolate and cacao drinks, your taste buds for bland Starbucks or Dutch Bros drinks are forever changed. There is so much to absorb and learn from this store. You will be overwhelmed and perhaps intimidated in a positive way on your first visit. They have a great array of unique gifts for special occasions.

This is one of my favorite shops in downtown Nevada City. They have a ton of chocolate and cacao items sold here. Lots of chocolate that is vegan or nondairy. They have chocolate and cacao bars from a lot of local makers as well as ones from all over the country. They also have 4 different flavors of cacao bars that they make themselves. Some of my favorite brands sold here are Fine and Raw, CRU, Ora Cacao and of course the Choquiero chocolate. Lots of the chocolate is organic too. They also have some tea for sale such as Classy Hippie Tea from Sacramento which is amazing tea. They also have some delicious vegan desserts in the case. They also have a wide selection of hot and cold drinks. I like the hot cacao drinks the best. They also hold cacao ceremonies here too and they are really special! Not sure if they are currently happening due to Covid. They have a couple tables on the front porch and more behind the business in a garden area. There is also one table inside.

By the time we arrived Sunday, shops were starting to close up. Glad that The Truffle Shop was open on Monday when I stopped in looking for some shade an a cooler spot to be for a bit. The collection of hand-crafted truffles was not only beautiful and wildly unique with its flavor profiles, but complimented by the artistic space of the petite shop. It was all a visual delight, before even getting to choosing the chocolates. As it was a warm day, I didn't order as many as I might have otherwise as I was sure that the truffle treats would melt before we could enjoy them properly - savoring each tasty bite. I did get a dark chocolate/cherry one for me, and Matcha tea flavor for Dear Hubby, who wasn't with me at the time. I had a nice chat with the gentleman running the shop. He may have been the owner, coming from the back with a tray of more truffles to fill out the display cases. Thankfully on a warm afternoon, they had chilled bottled water for sale, too. After making my purchase and taking a few photos of the whimsical interior, I sat and enjoyed my truffle at the little bistro table in the outside hallway. It was a perfect little respite before more strolling on Broad Street again.

If you're strolling through downtown on a warm afternoon, do yourself a favor and stop at Treat. Cool off, grab a cone, sit on a bench, and watch the world go by. First class all the way. We ordered a house sausage pizza and to add the salami to the pizza which was a great choice loved the pizza we watched it get made right in front of us and their bacon and cheddar melt. I paid because I only had an hour for lunch and needed to eat. I got my mocha and sat down to wait for my sandwich. As I waited, I noticed several people who ordered after me receiving their food while I was still sitting there. About 15 minutes later, I finally received my to-go sandwich. When I opened the container, it was obvious it had been sitting there for a while. The sandwich was sweaty, and half of it was soggy. Apparently, they had forgotten to bring it to me. By that point, my mocha was already gone before I had even started eating. The BLT itself was made on regular-sized sandwich bread, and the tomatoes and bacon were good. But $34 for a basic BLT and a small iced mocha is outrageous, especially considering the wait and the condition of the sandwich when I finally received it. I will not be going back. The prices are simply far too high for what you get.
