A family group overnight jaunt to Nevada City yielded lots of time to stroll around Sunday evening and Monday until mid-day. By the time we arrived Sunday, shops were starting to close up. Glad that The Truffle Shop was open on Monday when I stopped in looking for some shade an a cooler spot to be for a bit. The collection of hand-crafted truffles was not only beautiful and wildly unique with its flavor profiles, but complimented by the artistic space of the petite shop. It was all a visual delight, before even getting to choosing the chocolates. As it was a warm day, I didn't order as many as I might have otherwise as I was sure that the truffle treats would melt before we could enjoy them properly - savoring each tasty bite. I did get a dark chocolate/cherry one for me, and Matcha tea flavor for Dear Hubby, who wasn't with me at the time. I had a nice chat with the gentleman running the shop. He may have been the owner, coming from the back with a tray of more truffles to fill out the display cases. Thankfully on a warm afternoon, they had chilled bottled water for sale, too. After making my purchase and taking a few photos of the whimsical interior, I sat and enjoyed my truffle at the little bistro table in the outside hallway. It was a perfect little respite before more strolling on Broad Street again. read more

While walking the street I saw this small section of shops and found this small store. They have a lot of little truffles and even had a few gluten free items which is always nice. I got a small cake. My friend got an eclair that he liked a lot. The prices are fair and there are some tables you can sit at outside of the store. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this place during my birthday vacation and I am so happy we did. The shop is so cozy and cute, so many fun things to look at. Rudy the owner is such a kind gentleman you can tell he loves what he does. We got the famous cappuccino drink and I can't stop thinking about it, it was so delicious! I stopped in here after visiting the oddities market a few weeks ago and I have to say I was impressed! First of all whoever is working the counter be it the owner or chocolatier, super sweet person. I enjoyed chatting with him :-) he was personable and kind while also serving a fair amount of people on his own. Now let's get down to what really matters right? I ordered seven different truffles three of which had alcohol and four did not. The amaretto one is to die for. It is so good! I wish I had purchased 10 of them! The marzipan is also great. The mint and espresso types are very good as one would expect. I also got a berry flavor which I think is seasonal and it was really good. I wish I could remember the name of it! There was also a bourbon type and that one was great. Basically everything I got was wonderful. I also got their gluten-free chocolate mousse dessert. Oh my gosh. So decadent, so amazing, I ate it all in one sitting and I totally shouldn't because it was super rich but it was that good! I really wish this wasn't an hour away but it's probably best because I would be there all the time. The shop is small, and has an older shop feel but still enjoyable to be in. Found this gem!! If you love chocolate this is a must stop when in Nevada city. Truffles do have alcohol but they do have limited options without. The store alone is worth a visit, so cute and charming. It really was a special treat to pick a truffle after lunch. read more

My sister in law ordered me a box of their famous truffles for my birthday this year. Something went wrong with the address and they never let her know so she had to reach out in regards to where my package was. They did express ship it so I had it two days later, but overall two weeks past my birthday. I would have expected it to be wrapped nicer, the box and wrapping paper felt very basic like they don't ship out much. I had a chance to sample 8 pralines and unfortunately most of them contained liquor which I just don't like. Flavor wise they were fine, fresh and indulgent. I'm sure you can order them as you like instead of a random mix, but I would not bother to order here again, a gift should be on time and packaged nicer. read more

If you've never had a specialty truffle before, I'm sure this place would seem amazing. I'm glad that the previous reviewers very much enjoyed their treats. For me, it just wasn't great. I love chocolate. I love artisan desserts. I really, really love truffles. For $4 per truffle, I was sure we were in for a treat. Not so much. The chocolate used here wasn't specialty chocolate. The truffles are made with bland baker's chocolate and are filled with sugary mush and liquor. I was not impressed. read more

I never knew that chocolate could taste like this. I didn't see it coming, and now I will never forget it. I would drive all the way back to Nevada City just for another taste of the rich, deep, complex concoction that was the chocolate cherry truffle. The low-fat berry cobbler bar was addictive and we went all the way back just to buy another as we left to drive home that evening. If you're in town, you simply must try this place out. What a fun place to eat!!! It was a magical little stop for my fiancé and I. I immensely enjoyed our little treat. The girl working the counter that day wasn't overly friendly, but she gave us our space to just be in our own little world. Its very small shop, but completely fun to look at and be in. And the truffles we enjoyed with our tea where soooo amazingly good. I just wanted to stuff the whole wonderful experience in my pocket and save it for a rainy day. Shopping locally is especially important right now, but we couldn't have received better chocolate truffles any where on the planet. I ordered a dozen (picked out favorite flavors) for my Valentine and they delivered them, beautifully wrapped in peacock paper with a glittery star sealing the silk ribbon, the day before Valentine's Day. I am not a truffle person, in fact I dislike them. But those with me tell me these are some of the best to be found anywhere. What I did get was some kind of a frozen coffee drink and a key lime cheese cake to take home, both VERY GOOD. It is a very small shop so three fats butts in one place is kind of tight. But that's ok as the guy working here is very nice and calm. I have no idea why calm is mentioned here but that is how it struck me and I liked it. My review is a little over due. My friends and I did some Christmas shopping in 2015 in Nevada City and found this little shop quite by accident. We each bought a truffle. Dang, it was one of the best I've had in a long time. I needed stocking stuffers for 10 and promptly bought 10 truffles. I was able to match flavors to my family and each truffle was packaged into an individual box, sublime! I'm about to go back tomorrow to get more stocking stuffers for Christmas this Monday. We've been in here a couple of times over the years. It had always been a great place to stop as we were finishing up in town and get a couple chocolates and their specialty frozen coffee drink. Unfortunately, this time we got ignored so we left. When we first went by as we got to town and were checking out the shops there was a guy and a lady sitting at the small table inside the place. I thought I recognized the guy as working there from our prior visits but wasn't sure. Since we couldn't carry a drink into many of the other shops in town we figured our last stop would be back at the truffle shop. When we came back roughly 45-60 minutes later they were both still sitting at the table talking about pepper spray vs guns for self defense. We walked in and up to the register with money out. Neither of them acknowledged us at all but the lady got up and moved behind the counter. Where she continued her conversation with the guy without even looking over at us. There was no "Hi", no smile, no eye contact, nothing. She stood there looking at the guy she'd been talking to and continued the conversation with him. He sat at the table, clearly not leaving so they weren't wrapping up a talk and saying goodbye. I was looking at the chocolates and other candies when my wife got my attention and said "lets just go". Granted it hadn't been long that we were standing there but we really got the feeling we were interrupting them by being there. It wasn't even as if she had started helping us and then continued the conversation. She hadn't even looked away from him and over to us. Maybe at trendy little chocolate shops the employees are doing us a favor by helping us but at everywhere I've worked the second a customer comes in all side conversations stop and the customer gets helped. So to the two people there: I'm sorry we almost interrupted your conversation for a minute or two. read more

OH MY GOD! this place is heaven! the assortment of belgian truffles is amazing and Chef Degroot is a chocolate genius! if anyone is visiting the lovely historical mining town of Nevada City and you love a good piece of chocolate, a visit here is a must. Key Largo is my favorite when i want something sweet but there are many others made with fine liquors that can make a truffle anywhere from sweet to strong or even bitter. and the Nevada City Ice Caps! oh lordy! this is where my little coffee, addicted self will eventually die of self-induced diabetes. read more

They would get 5 stars, but they have downsized their truffles and charge about the same as the larger ones that were the bomb. Their truffles are the best and I've tried them all, almost all. I consider myself and expert in these things since I have made it my life's mission to sample every type of chocolate in every location in which I find myself. Sadly I will no longer be purchasing these tasty treats. Call me crazy, but the smaller truffles just aren't the same. read more

If you like truffles this is the place to go! My folks drive out from the bay area just to get these truffles, or pay to have them shipped. They are fantastic. There's another chocolate shop in town that also has truffles, but they can't hold a candle to The Truffle Shop. They have a ton of different types and they're made to perfection. Keep in mind truffles are not cheap, so expect to spend $4-5 per truffle...but it's worth it. read more

I'm an airline pilot and I've had a lot of chocolate in a lot of places. I can't speak about the milk chocolate truffles here because I'm just not a milk chocolate guy, but the semi-sweet and bittersweet dark truffles are truly exceptional. I thought the alcohol in many of the truffles really added to the rich flavor of the individual truffle. These may not be the best in the world but they're as good as any I've ever had, pricey but worth it. read more
