Vegan friendly eatery that is delicious! We stopped in for lunch and ordered a bowl and salad and they were both very good! They do have seating outside that is dog friendly.

I loved the vibe of this place! I went twice when I was in Nevada City, once for breakfast and once for dinner. For breakfast I had the salmon toast and an iced lavender latte. Both items were delicious. The service was friendly and the food came out relatively fast. For breakfast, you order at the counter, and they call your name when your food is ready for you to come up and grab it. For dinner, you order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food to you. For dinner I got the bahn mi bowl and my husband got ramen. Both were good. They source from local farmers, which is great!

I only had time for a small but (the miso soup with bread and a ginger turmeric lemonade), but ALL the food I saw coming out looked amazing! Bring some time, it gets busy and making food from scratch takes a while. You go up to the counter, order and pay, pick a cozy spot to sit, and they will shout your name at the pick up counter when it's ready. The miso was delicious with some fresh vegetables and the side of bread with salted butter, so good! Would definitely come back to try more dishes.

We decided to come here after getting a recommendation and seeing the great reviews. We ordered this appetizer and noodle soup to share. We came around 7 pm and it was quite busy. It took about half an hour for the appetizer to come out and another 20 minutes for the noodle soup to come out. Both dishes were pretty small, especially for the price. The appetizer was this fried shiitake. We didn't expect it to be essentially ground up shiitake that was battered. The sauce tasted like hoisin sauce that had a heavy drizzle. In terms of flavor, this dish was not balanced. The noodle soup was essentially a red curry noodle soup. I liked the cashews and peanuts in there. The broth itself was a bit bland. Perhaps we didn't order the right dishes, but Heartwood seems to be a nice option for people with dietary restrictions.

Gave this place a try since we were in the area for Victorian Christmas and it had a lot of good reviews. When we walked in it was fairly crowded. We were worried we wouldn't find anywhere to sit but luckily the table next to the register got up as we're about to order. The cashier was friendly and patient as we navigated the menu. We had thought we over ordered for the four of us, since we all got an entree and then three appetizers to share, but the portions were perfect in my opinion. The annex ramen definitely had some fresh ingredients. I chose chicken but I'd recommend another option since the chicken wasn't that special. Also, the broth seemed fairly basic and lacked flavors that I'm used to from other places, so I'd recommend ordering the other ramen options. The best appetizer for me was probably the hot and sweet karaage. It definitely strays away from what I'm used to with karaage, as it started reminding me more of popcorn chicken and boneless wings, but it definitely hit the spot (if I had rice it would've been even better). The crispy potatoes would've been pretty bland if it weren't for the onions and greens on top. The shiitake fritters were basically meatballs to me, which I didn't mind considering I don't like mushrooms. Now that I've written all this out this place is probably more of a 3.5 off of the one visit considering one of the employees spilled sauce on my coat when they were bringing out our food, but that sentiment might just be because of the items I chose to order.

Visit date: July 18, 2025 Lovely plave and great vibes. My friend was insisting me on visiting the restaurant and this town and that's why I really enjoyed my 2 hours here. They have a great variety of healthy food and coffee options. My Salmon sandwich was too good. The whole place was supporting the eco-friendly cause and that was impressive. The staff was helpful and recommended more options to try and also gave a small introductory talk about their products. Would love to visit again..

Avo toast and lavender honey latte

Visited Heartwood Eatery today. October 17th..see receipt. This place is located close to the Broad Street exit in Nevada City. It opens at 10am. It's large inside and has indoor and outdoor dining with large windows to enjoy! The main part of the restaurant focuses on breakfast where the annex focuses more on dinner options (asian fusion) with Ramen dishes. I had the avocado on toast (sourdough) with sprouts on top. Nice presentation and plenty of avocado. What I really liked was their honey lavender latte- again a beautiful presentation and the coffee was delicious! The large coffee cup itself was 6 bucks but I couldn't finish it! It has a warm and earthy atmosphere with colorful art on the walls. The kitchen staff was friendly and it was a great experience! I would come back again for the lavender latte!

Gluten-free fried chicken?!! Umm, yes please!! LOCATION & DECOR: I'm the heart of downtown Nevada City with a rustic feel with natural materials including several types of wood for seating and counter tops. Bench style, table style and bar height by the window seating available at first come first serve. Two tables outside for street dining for 2 per table. FOOD & DRINK: -fried chicken karaage: I can't believe this is gluten free. Very delicious. -shiitake fritters: tiny balls of deliciousness sitting on top of it and arugula salad. So good. -Heartwood salad bowl w/ salmon is a just have. A hearty bowl of health and wellness to share. It was everything I wanted from a salad. -Strawberry Basil Lemonade PRICE: $$ Not the cheapest place to eat. The shiitake fritters plus the fried chicken karaage Plus a strawberry basil lemonade ran me $34. SWAG/AMENITIES: -bar height seating -bench style seating -street-side dining -restroom -table service STAFF & EXPERIENCE: First to note, there are two sides of the restaurant, one serving lunch and one serving dinner. Not sure what time they switch. Possibly 4:00 p.m. . The items I ate (fried chicken karaage and shiitake fritters) are not available on the lunch menu. The service here is top notch. Incredibly friendly and personable staff. They come around the tables and refill drinks and make sure you have everything you need. Customer choice for seating. You order at the counter then they give you a number and find you wherever you are seated. Thursday dish tray for dropping silverware and things. The five hair is so homey and cute. The patrons have visit here are all very friendly and this is definitely a place I'll stop in from time to time. Just a bit expensive compared to other places nearby.

every single time i've gone to heartwood, the food never disappoints. the pictures speak for themselves. the food is fresh and healthy. it doesn't feel heavy in the stomach. the staff is quick and friendly even during lunch rush. the ambiance of the restaurant is relaxed, but also very nice. i love how they have water set out for guests along with to go containers and anything else you'll need.

"Do we get two toasts or just one?" She shows me her index finger. "Just one." For the price of the toasts, I had to ask! 16 bucks for a salmon toast? It's got to be a helluva good toast! My man's avocado toast was 14 bucks! Do you see now why I thought we'd get two toasts??? When we walked in, I liked the wooden interior, calm space, and overall ambiance. But when I saw the menu consisted of different kinds of toasts, ONLY toasts, I was bummed. I realized, though, that they had OTHER things like salad, grain bowls, and soups. Since we came in the morning, I felt like the only option I had was toast. I was hesitant, but I wanted to stay for the sake of my curiosity. Also, I wanted to sit by the window to watch the raindrops and peoplewatch. Wow! I was amazed at how creatively they prepared the salmon toast. It was so pretty, I didn't want to eat it! The smoked salmon, topped with bright pink pickled onions and micro greens. What a sight! It was Instagram-worthy indeed! Not only was it exquisite to look at, but it was also delicious and filling!! Oh, and healthy, too!! I didn't mind paying $16 for it. My man said my toast was much better than his avocado toast, so I didn't even try it. The Matcha Latte was a tasty drink with my breakfast. It's a wonderful place to have a meal in Nevada City.

How I wish we had a Heartwood Eatery nearby our community! I would then surely be a regular guest enjoying the healthy, beautiful and scrumptious delicious meals more often! My sister suggested we meet here for lunch so we met with our men and we all enjoyed our entire dining experience. Even the wooden furniture and environment is eye pleasing and has a warm comfy welcome when first entering.

Lovely service and great food. My friend got a tomato basil soup with pesto bread that came with sprouts & said it was delicious. I got the Asian chicken salad and it did not disappoint. A plus is that the coffee is also worthwhile of going out of your way :)

The best meal we had in Nevada City! The barbacoa bowl that my husband ordered was his favorite thing he ordered anyplace during our trip. I had the heartwood bowl twice! So good. Unfortunately they forgot to put the soft-boiled egg on it the second time though, and I didn't realize it until after. Bummer! But the food here was delicious and so high quality.

So I drove around for about 10 minutes looking for a spot that was remotely close to run in a get my food... I'd recommend taking someone with you so you can drop them off and you can drive around the block in order to pick them back up. I got the dragon and phoenix which had good flavor... shrimps were cooked perfect, the chicken is breading pretty heavy and the sauce is a lil spicy, I also had some white steamed rice; not sure if it is supposed to have a light coconut flavor if not but being that I am super sensitive to coconut I didn't like it and had to toss it. Hubby ordered the sweet n sour chicken, it was the typical same flavor sauce that most places have with the same type of breaded chicken as mine was just different sauce.. he said he wished there was more sauce since some of his pieces were not coated.. over all things were alright but nothing special. Maybe it was what I ordered. There is a lil lobby that was congested with 3 people so I waited outside till one left... not sure how the dining area is as I did not walk into that area. Staff were friendly.

I admittedly am having an absolute sense of remorse; I am traveling to the Bay Area this upcoming weekend and will miss this Friday dinner at my FAVORITE Lao/Eastern Family Food Restaurant in the world. (I have been to Laos n Thailand, each their own, and Panoy and their family at the restaurant, deliver one of the most authentic Eastern experiences of community, food, and fun in getting to know a very slender, sliver of the magjick that lives in Gold Country California in 2026.)
