While in the area we decided to stop by with family to see how it now stands up to 100s new Hakka restaurants. The owners have changed for sure since then. The inside is still the same as I remember with new table and chairs. Still clean and tidy. The service is still good. The owner/manager gives to personal service and answered all of our ingredient questions. Our taste buds have evolved and the competitors are feeding us dishes that are more amplified than the ones we got here. Our favourite Manchurian Pakorra in gravy was OK. Not bad, but the pakoras were to big and just doughy. The gravy again OK. The Tofu Chilli not hugely spicy and felt under seasoned to us. The Fried Rice was again very plain. Noodles were OK and the same goes for Szechuan Mixed Veggies. Felt as if we are eating at a traditional Chinese restaurant rather than Indian style Hakka restaurant.

I have bisoted several establishments in Phoenix and always seem to get lo mein noodles when I order chow mein. We wandered in a bit later in the evening and placed an order. I was so happy to see so many veggie options to choose from. I decided upon the Manchurian Vegetable Chow Mein and I am so glad I did. No joke, I munched on it for 3 days. The vinegar & chilli was used on day 3 and I wish I wasn't so terrified of it on da 1 because man, did it amp it up! I also had a veggie spring roll which was good, but nothing to write here about. Ma went back 2 more times after our visit and thoroughly enjoyed her dishes. Will I be back? When I am back in town and so long as they're open and around, absolutely I will be back. It was everything I needed on my first day back "home". Packed full of flavor, yum!

But I really liked the atmosphere. Although it's small, it's bright and there's plenty of sun coming through. We ordered a few dishes and all were tasty. I enjoyed all of them. The fried dumplings were delicious but you have to be careful when you eat them. They are so juicy that it sprays out when you bite into them. My friend warned me about this, but it still happened anyway. The best dish had to be the chili oil noodles. I really liked the texture, width and flavours involved. There was just enough of a spicy kick without it overpowering the noodles and other flavours. I will definitely come back to have this again. Overall, I don't have anything to negative say about this restaurant. Delicious food, nice atmosphere and friendly and fast service. Prices are also reasonable too.

Tried the handmade baozi along with shredded potato stir-fry and the cold pig ear & cucumber salad -- everything tasted authentic, with true Northern Chinese flavors. Seating is very limited (the biggest table fits only 4), but definitely worth visiting if you want a comforting, homemade-style meal.

We almost didn't go: it was a second choice for a late lunch after our first choice was closed, and it turned out to be just right! Wong's is a small, family-run, casual restaurant which specializes in Hakka cuisine. We were greeted and seated upon arrival by our friendly server. We quickly decided upon our choices: Chicken Pakoras; Chili Chicken Dry; Bombay Chicken and Chicken MaPo Tofu. Pakoras and Chili Chicken are, for me, go-to Hakka orders when trying out a restaurant for the first time. Wong's passed the Pakora and Chili Chicken tests with flying colors! The Chicken Pakoras were substantial, crispy and flavorful. Perfectly spiced, they were accompanied by a delicious cilantro sauce. Our waitress recommended adding some of the chili sauce if we wanted some additional heat. My son enjoyed them with the chili; I personally felt that they were perfect with just the cilantro. Similarly, the Chili Chicken was among the best that we've ever had. The chicken was pleasantly crispy without the greasiness that often plagues chili chicken, and again, Wong's nailed the spicing. Certainly, some diners would want more heat and, aside from the chili sauce at the table, you can request various levels of spiciness. The Bombay Chicken was a first for me, and I was not disappointed. The chicken pieces were moist and very flavorful, with the pronounced smokiness that wok cooking can produce. The smoky, spicy taste was very satisfying, especially on a winter day. The Chicken Mapo Tofu was unlike any that I've ever had, and it was surprising but excellent. I'm accustomed to Sichuan style Mapo Tofu, and Wong's version was different: milder, and without the pleasantly numbing sichuan peppercorns. The result was a milder dish, but so well flavored that, while different, it retained the comfort of savory meat sauce and the soft tofu cubes. The texture was perfect, and it was complemented by the steamed rice, which came with our orders. The service was friendly, kind and helpful, and Chef Wong himself came out to ask about our meal. Happily, we were able to give him sincere compliments! We look forward to returning to try some of the helpful suggestions offered by our server. She recommended the Hakka Noodles, Crispy Sesame Beef, and Spicy garlic shrimp. Debit or Cash only. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the food is worth going out of your way to get.

Driving past the Shawarma Alley felt funny, but we were set on trying one of the best Hakka places in the GTA. We shared Chicken Pakora, Egg Sweet Corn Soup, Beef Hakka Chow Mein, and Chili Chicken. Even though this is Indian Hakka, everything was cooked so well and seasoned just right that I genuinely wonder if anyone could complain about anything here. You really feel that family business vibe, old school interior and all, and for some reason that just hits the spot for me. If I had to nitpick, I wished the Egg Sweet Corn Soup was a touch sweeter, but even that had its own character. And that same sense of balance showed up across every dish we tried. Overall execution was so solid that I honestly cannot pick a single winner among the dishes. Everything was just consistently good. Definitely one of those places you return to without hesitation.
