They overcharged us for dog food on their current sale. No signage or ad statement but cost us 20 more

When I was looking for a dog I interacted with many facilities and this BY FAR seemed to have its "ducks in a row" and I loved how detailed the process was. I filled out a long application then was contacted by my dogs foster mom. We emailed back and fourth (answering all the questions I had) and decided to schedule a meeting at the foster moms house because my dog was VERY scared of people and had a rough life beforehand. After the home visit went well, I did a trial weekend with the dog at my place. The foster mom texted me during the weekend and made sure everyone was doing okay. After the weekend, I adopted my dog! Over 3 and a half years later, I still rave about Hearts of Hope. My dog is sleeping against to me now as I right this. I will always be thankful to them for bringing my dog and I together. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this organization!!

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue or (Rescue of Hope.com), is a non-profit, foster network servicing the…read moreGrand Rapids, MI area. Those involved with it are volunteers, who are devoted to helping homeless, unwanted dogs and cats find forever homes. Which is great, and they probably do a great job with mild mannered, pliable dogs. What I say next is not said with malice, but simply to offer a heads-up so you don't have false expectations. If you adopt a difficult dog that needs extensive interaction don't expect much, if any support. They may suggest they are there for you, but in reality they really aren't - they're volunteers with regular jobs and 'lives'. Once the dog is transferred to you, they may offer some "puppy style training" advice like - "Just make sure they have a happy environment." Which again is really more common sense, than advice and provides zero guidance for a difficult situation. If your adopted dog has serious behavioral issues, they don't seem to have the qualifications to provide professional guidance. In fact, you'll likely get the duck-and-dodge routine if you request assistance. The point being, don't waste your time contacting them, and instead seek the assistance of a professional. Again, this is not written to disparage the great volunteer service they provide in helping to relocate dogs/cats in need, rather to provide clarification of their ability to provide support after the adoption.

I went right at the beginning of the day on Sunday and was able to be seen right away. The worker was incredible gracious with my dog who doesn't enjoy nail trims and has some separation anxiety. She let me go back and hold her to help make the process smoother. Despite my dog being fidgety, she was super kind throughout. The store was clean and they have fun "cookie" treats you can purchase by the register (which my pup loved eating later). Will be returning!

This location is new, clean, and always well-stocked. The employees are all super friendly and always ask if we need help finding anything and are happy to give advice based on their own experience, as most of them have pets of their own. They have items for dogs and cats, of course, but also things for small furry pets and even have some small furry pets for sale! They also have cats that are ready for adoption inside the store which are fun to check out whenever we visit. Chow Hound has a self-serve dog wash which seems like it would be really convenient if you didn't have the room or facilities available for that at your house. The variety of products they stock is kind of mind-boggling and I see something fun each time I visit. We love their selection of canned cat food; they have really high quality stuff that you can't get at a regular grocery store. There are plenty of toys, treats, and accessories for all pets too! The store is laid out nicely with low shelves so you can see where everything is pretty easily, unlike some other pet store chains I've been to. The store is super clean and really bright and I always feel happy when I'm there! They have a rewards program that allows you to earn points for every purchase and each time you earn enough points, you get a $10 off coupon. We haven't earned enough points yet, but it's a nice incentive. As others have mentioned, prices at Chow Hound might be a little more than Amazon or other national chain retailers but we like to support this local store in our area. I definitely recommend checking them out for pet supplies!

We were told that if a puppy was awake, we would be able to play with it. However, when we asked to meet a puppy that was awake, we were told no because that puppy had "played too much today." We then picked another puppy we were interested in meeting and were told no because we were "a big group." What was frustrating was that another family who arrived after us was placed with a puppy to play with because the staff selected that puppy for them. That family did not request that specific puppy, while we were told we could not meet one we were interested in. Our group was a family of four, and the other family had three people, so the reasoning did not make sense. The staff member then asked if we were "really looking to adopt." I said yes, but after this experience I decided I would not be adopting from this location. She explained that we would still have to be approved, which I completely understood and had no issue with. The issue was the inconsistent treatment and the feeling that we were not being given a fair opportunity to meet the puppies. This experience left us feeling like this place is not focused on helping families find and adopt puppiesFollow-up to your response to my review: I want to clarify a few details. The other family did not have an appointment -- they were actually teammates of our daughter from her softball team. We were there separately, and we were interested in meeting a puppy because we were seriously considering adding a new dog to our family. Our goal was to bring home the golden puppy as a playmate and companion for our 1.5-year-old lab. We were not there just to visit or play with puppies; we were genuinely interested in adopting. The frustration came from feeling like we were given different information and treated differently when trying to meet the puppies. We understand that there are adoption procedures and approval requirements, but we would have appreciated clearer communication and the same opportunity to interact with the puppy we were interested in.

It was just a little bit after they lifted the Covid restrictions. However, this hospital had not lifted the restrictions yet, which forced me to give them my baby at the door. I was delivering campers at that time, so my roommate/bestie took care of everything at home for me. I left out that day. They called me and said, "We have the seizures under control. However, we'd like to keep him overnight for observation. In order to do that, we would need $2k today." I called my bf and she gave them $1k. After a little bit they called again, "We can't stop the seizures and we recommend euthanizing him, if you can't afford it!" I added my hubby to the call, he's an otr truck driver, and they told him the same thing. I told them to give us few, to let us talk it over, and I would give them a call back. We decided to have my bestie go get him. That way, WE know, that we'd done EVERYTHING we could. That was 4 1/2 years ago!! They told us to euthanize our baby!! I will tell EVERYONE/ANYONE "DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!" As you can CLEARLY see, he's happy and his seizures are controlled by medication from Whitehall Vet Practice. This Animal Emergency Hospital NEVER listened when I specifically told them "He has never been separated from us! He has a Mommy & Daddy and he has a Mommy & Papa. He's been with us since he was 9 weeks old and he's been with us or his other parents! He doesn't even get left home alone! He was TERRIFIED! He was shaking uncontrollably! They were SO money hungry that they didn't care!

As were figuring out the next steps words were exchanged between my mom and the vet which they refused us service and left my dog on the ground. Keep in mind I am in the car trying to collect myself and find alternative veterinarians during this moment. Also, we had concerns about his eye that were never addressed. During the same day we visited another vet, and he did not have a heart murmur and was perfectly healthy besides his eye needing eye drops. Overall, please be careful of scammers and get second opinions. We do not recommend this vet. We've NEVER had issues with them until this visit.
