I was skeptical about eating here due to the reviews. Glad I came. Place does look slightly sketchy. Upon entering, was greeted by a friendly staff. No security guard at the entrance. Food was really tasty. As for the buffet, they could do a better job at labeling the food. Every sign was wrong but I was able to figure out most of the items. I tried a little of everything and it was all very good. Some of the food could of had a hotter temperature. Decor could use some help. I'm definitely sure I will visit again. read more

Wow! Southern soul food and Asian fusion. **MIND BLOWN** first of all this is a buffet. The buffet has three separate serving areas side by side. The first buffets station has Asian inspired foods including seafood! Also at this area you can make nachos with hot stadium cheese in a pump and all the toppings! At the next section was home cooked food (i.e. meatloaf, Salisbury steak, fried chicken, kielbasa etc etc) to the right of this station is down home soul food! Greens, cornbread, pigs feet, beans etc etc. The final section was a salad bar, soups, and a display fridge filled with desserts! It's an open kitchen concept right behind the food stations, which I liked because it was super clean in appearance. There must have been 50 employees, ensuring an efficiently operated establishment, quick table service and hot, fresh food makes this place a winner! I originally reviewed this place in 2014 when I came to Memphis for the first time. Had an unpleasant experience due to security unnecessarily checking my receipt for proof of payment, eventhough they just saw me at the register. Wrote a review about it. New manager contacted me and offered a free meal with a guest. Food tasted the same. Not bad, but not great either. Manager was pleasant. Best to go around lunch. This place wasn't horrible years ago. They still have a few descent items like the catfish. Lots of food from home cooking to Chinese. Huge place and during lunch hours is usually crazy busy. The parking sucks here omg! To be a buffet, you would think to have your establishment excluded from a shopping center unless there is increase parking! The lines are very long on s Saturday evening! My guest and I arrived here around 5pm, waited about 15 minutes to get seated but we spent double that time looking for a parking space! The food here is okay, if you are looking for southern food then the variety is lit! I enjoyed the choices of items that is presented on the bar! My only suggestion is crab legs. The other suggestion is parking space. Oh one last thing! The lack of space while serving yourself is crazy, I hate the arm to arm preparation that is given when fixing your food! I hear this place is crowed most of the days so I can't suggest a better day! It's also a two hour limit to sit and eat so don't stay to long! Ridiculous right! I was told this place has a southeren sould food buffet. I wasn;t at all expecting what I walked into. The interior was very clean and update. Kinda gave a sort of sports bar feel. Everthing you needs except drinks is on table already. The food was excellent, they have everything from neckbones and pig feet to lo mien and salad. a buffet with a combo of southern and chinese food. they are always busy which meant foods are always fresh since they are constantly being refilled. they have everything you can of in regular southern home cooking. from corn bread (totally amazing!!!) to neck bones to hot wings to peach cobblar. very good for the price. feel free to indulge in all the southern goodness. read more

Went there for the first time while visiting Memphis and will say it was pretty good. The food was hot and being prepared pretty much right in front of you. The food was refilled really quickly, and tasted pretty good. There was a great variety of foods. The soul food portion was great. The Chinese section was lacking, but was still ok. We've gone back a couple times since my initial visit. They added more soul-food that I'm not fond of. Pig's ears and jowls...yuck....and some other unidentifiable braised organ meats. After church, my wife, a friend and I stopped by Chowtime, and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. Though we have frequented this establishment more than once, this was the best experience I have had...The food was unequalled and the service grand. Perhaps, the unusually large shrimp that met me at the door convinced me of this, or perhaps, it was the pig feet, cook just right; nevertheless, there were so many delectable delights that I probably sinned a little, right after church. read more

Food was delicious!! The only reason why I did not give 5 stars was because of the wait. We went on Sunday at 12, and had to wait a long time before we were seated. It took about 25 min to go through the buffet line once we did get a seat. I felt like I spent more of my time waiting than I did actually eating. Worth all that said, the food was worth it. My mom, grandma, and I came here for a late lunch. It was my first time going to an all you can eat buffet, plus I love Chinese and soul food so I was excited. Little did I know I was setting myself up for one big disappointment. First off, the place smelled awful. I don't know if it was the lack of ventilation or if the food was that bad, but to quote Gene Scallop "when I stuck my beak in there, my appetite flew south for the winter." The decor was no better, and I use the term decor very loosely. The booths were covered in holes and weren't even mounted to the food like regular booths. Next was the food. My college cafeteria makes better soul food than that mess. The fried chicken was soggy, the green beans and grits were bland, and the mac and cheese tasted so processed I think I got radiation poisoning. They didn't even have country fried steak, what kind of soul food restaurant doesn't have country fried steak?! The only food that was half decent was the Chinese food, but even that was below average. The egg rolls tasted rotten, the fried rice was bland, and the orange chicken had a terrible aftertaste. I feel like this place shouldn't have also made soul food since it clear they can't cook it right. What they need to do it make this place a full Chinese buffet; southerners like Chinese food too. There are much better soul food and Chinese restaurants to eat, so save yourself $35.00 and don't eat here. read more

I will NEVER patronize this restaurant again. Me and a companion decided to go to Chow Time (Hacks Cross) Sunday evening. We arrived about 9 pm. It would've nice to be informed that the restaurant would be closing in 30 minutes. Upon sitting with my plate my waiter asked me from across the room if I knew they were closing in 30 minutes (and not being an employee naturally I didn't know that). At about 9:10 pm the armed security guard came by my table and tapped on it and said you've got 10 minutes as he passed by the table. After finishing my second plate the waiter came and asked if we were done and I said yes. He picked up the plates as we sat finishing our VIP drinks but he stood at the booth, and I looked at my companion and said clearly in front of him "OH MY GOD IS HE GOING TO STAND HERE AND WAIT FOR US TO FINISH OUR DRINKS??!! I quickly grabbed my ticked from the table and said lets get out of here!!! And even though the restaurant was pretty empty the guard had to check our receipt as we left. I felt in welcome and like a criminal. Word to the wise. Have your guest pay upon entering and your will save the salary for the guard and MAYBE gain back some lost customers but I will not be one of them. read more

We love Chow Time. Have not been in a while but used to try to go once a week. We are going tonight, me for the salmon. I used to think I did not like salmon but after I tasted it here I cant get enough. I dont think I have had anything that I did not like. Make sure you wear something loose because the first couple times you go there you will make yourself miserable from eating too much because there are so many choices. We will be there at 4:00 so get out of my way. My husband loves the shrimp on the Chinese buffet and all the vegetables are seasoned just right. read more

I have been to Chow Time many, many times and the food is usually consistently very good! I don't know of any place in the Mid-South area where the food ( Southern buffet style is better.. including the Casinos in Tunica. The vegetables are wonderful.The meats are varied ....Fried chicken, grilled chicken, baked chicken, neck bones, ham hocks, sausages,hot wings etc. The Chinese food is good as well. Desserts are bread (love it) and rice pudding, peach cobbler etc. So, for the money and the very friendly personnel go and enjoy. It is located in a very decent part of town and is definitely not a ghetto as indicated in one review! Oh, and it's true the activity of people watching is an additional incentive. LOL read more
