It's always a treat to come here. Every time I visit, Ate Luz is working and it feels good to see the smile on her face. She took my order today even when she was on her way for a break. I had the beef wonton and it being a little cloudy outside, it was the perfect little meal. The tables are always clean when I come here. The thing I really loved about this restaurant is that it hit so many things that I was craving and I loved that you could buy individual or small sizes so that I could sample a bunch of different stuff. The whole reason I chose this place for the wonton noodle soup because I love that it had both. The soup was super satisfying, and I love that it is delivered on separate levels so that the noodles and dumplings don't completely disappear because they dissolved into the broth. I went with tiny juicy siomai dumplings that are a perfect mouthful size. I love the slippery juicy flavors. I also got a large mouthful siopao dumpling. a lot of times this style dumpling has too much bread for me, but I really like their proportions here. Normally, I would probably pick just one or the other side, but that day I had not eaten lunch and was starving! When I am in need of some nostalgia, I come here. They are the only place that sells taho (at least a decent one anyway) in the area.. that I know of. Taho are layers of silky tofu atop of hot sago and topped with sweet brown sugar syrup. Some would call it a dessert, but it was sold and mostly eaten in the morning for breakfast. One hot spoonful and it automatically takes me back to the Philippines. To those mornings tha used to run to the streets with my cup in hand, and a peso in the other that I would get daily from my auntie lita before he would go to work, trying to rush to catch the man who had my breakfast ready for me. He would walk down the streets and alley ways yelling "taho" sometimes honking a horn. Carrying two buckets over his shoulders held by a thick stick. Oh how that would make my day. 3 stars is pretty accurate. I've had two back-to-back bad experiences with online orders here. Both times, I showed up after getting a "ready for pickup" notification, only to find that staff had no idea about my order. One order was even missing an item. After finally having my order ready, found out that my order was wrong (I ordered 2 orders of the 2 entree lauriat - yet I was only given 1). I clearly stated 2 orders, with BOTH drinks being black jelly. The place was not full, it wasn't too busy, yet there were people before and after me (about 5/6 customers) that had waited for a long time. They had 5 people on staff, 3 up front and 2 in the kitchen, so I don't think they were understaffed. Idk where the disconnect is. Will not be coming back to this place. read more

We decided to try a different place to eat at, so we selected this place. It should have been an indication how the food was going to be when people were only ordering coffee or other drinks. This place is like a Filipinos making Chinese food. Well, the taste is definitely not the same as the Chinese version, especially the beef wonton soup. The soup base tasted like soap, there was only 2 pieces of beef, and to wontons. I only took 3 spoonfuls of the soup base and ate 1 wontons before throwing it away. I had out-of-town fam who wanted to get a few things in Seafood City and being it a hot and scorching SoCal day, they thought about making a stop here for halo-halo. While there were at it, they got a few pieces of chicken to snack on, too. Since they were short staffed, they already told us it was going to be a bit of a wait. No biggie, as I mentioned, we needed to get few things next door. Our grub was ready by the time we came back. I was surprised at how good the chicken was: it was almost comparable to the chicken joy from Jollibee (op word: ALMOST.) It was definitely different, but good. The halo-halo was a complete disappointment. It was pretty much ice and milk and they skimped on the ingredients. So that's a thumbs down. A heat wave came through again the very next day, and once again, fam wanted to get halo-halo, "but don't get it from ChowKing..." They wanted to get pansit canton from here, though, so I put in an order for that. This was made to order, and it was made to order good! It didn't look very appealing at first but the taste more than made up for it. I would definitely get this again. FOOD: 3. 1 for the halo-halo, 5 for the chicken and pansit canton. SERVICE: 3.5. Not a lot of interaction, but slightly above par. VALUE: 2.5. What they charge for the halo-halo isn't commensurate to what you get. PARKING: Private lot shared with others. It can get crowded. Street parking is also available but might require a bit of a walk depending on which street you park at. OVERALL: 3. Average at best. Food was great. Avoid the halo-halo. read more
