Padonia Veterinary Hospital - this is my Penny waiting for Dr Youssef

UPDATE 5/29/2021 I felt the need to update my review. Dr. Y…read morepotentially saved my dogs life. During my dogs yearly bloodwork, some of his levels came back outside of the recommended ranges. Dr. Y suggested doing an ultrasound on his spleen to make sure nothing more serious was occurring. Well, he found a mass on his spleen that was potentially bleeding. I was able to get my dog in for emergency surgery the next day and was able to have his spleen removed BEFORE it ruptured. Dr. Y's thoroughness saved my dog from a potential horrendous emergency situation. I've said below, but he truly cares about the animals. The staff at Padonia is extremely incredible and they always give so much love to my boy. ******************* I moved into the area about 6 months ago and was lucky to find Dr. Youssef at Padonia Veterinary Hospital. He's helped me NUMEROUS times. I rescued a kitten who was misdiagnosed at Banfield Hospital and almost passed away (his weight went from 2.2lbs down to 1.2lbs). Dr. Youssef put him on medication and provided guidance that helped me save this little dude. He's now a healthy, happy, 5mo kitten. If it wasn't for Dr. Youssef, I'm sure he wouldn't have made it. In addition, my 150lb dog has been to Padonia multiple times from limping, to thyroid medication refills, to an ulcer on his eye. Padonia is always there for me. They've fit me in last minute on multiple occasions, they've been available to answer my thousand questions, and they've stuck around late to make sure I had medication. I can't speak highly enough about Padonia. I left an incredible vet and was worried I'd never find the same thing again. I was wrong. Padonia has been beyond incredible. The assistants that work here are incredible, they'll love your animals as much as you do and they'll remember you by name. Their prices are some of the fairest that I've seen. Padonia is also the type of vet that will not ask you to do unnecessary procedures or give your animals unnecessary vaccines/medicine. I'd also like to mention that Padonia has some of the fairest prices that I've seen. I highly recommend Padonia Veterinary Hospital to those of us that love our animals more than we can even explain.

Dr. Z has been there a long time and has recently added additional vets who seem equally kind and capable, so it doesn't take as long to get an appointment and they have always worked my dogs in same day if they are in pain. Dr. Z and the vet techs are very nice, but the actual practice is not equipped to handle the volume or provide a good communication experience. The front desk staff are not helpful, and do not follow-up with you, even when your pet is due for a visit or immunizations. Ruxton is not a good place to establish your animals, and they do not care about your pets in the way that other vets can (and should!). From struggling to get an emergency appointment (that they don't hold, no matter what they tell you) to waiting 5 weeks for an appointment (when you're already established) to threatening calls from their new Practice Manager, Christy, when I expressed my disappointment, Ruxton has embarrassed themselves over and over. We had high hopes for Ruxton after being a customer for almost two years, but were gravely disappointed within the last few months. If you value your pets health, (and your sanity!), I would strongly encourage you to not take your animals to Ruxton.

I have lived within a 10 mile radius of this now poor quality establishment for 32 years and used this vet for many of these years. This vet declined drastically and suddenly to the point that they permanently injured my dog during a standard tooth extraction, damage that cannot be undone. These vets damaged an animal they were entrusted with and never assumed responsibility for what they had done. My review stands, and a foolish response promising to do better in the future does not help me or my pet.

When I called the LAH which we had been loyal and frequent patients at, first they did not have any appointments for us, then after I strongly requested they see us they gave us an appointment and asked us to sedate our dog. When I explained the number of issues he had that I would not sedate, they said they would need us to muzzle for their protection. I'm not sure who would muzzle their dying dog in their final hours, who is having seizures and not able to stand???? not me. Bye Luthervile Animal hospital!!!!Thanks for nothing. Thankfully I found https://www.baltimorehomepeteuthanasia.com/ who was compassionate and kind euthanasia veterinarian who came to our house that afternoon and was amazing with our family and our situation. I found this to be a much better option! My dog feels much more comfortable because she is at home, and Dr. Anna, Kate and her vet tech, Javier, are both amazing. As I mentioned, I am disabled. I am visually impaired, so Dr. Anna, Kate and her vet tech took extra time to explain what they were doing in case I wasn't able to tell. They took extra time to tell me all of my different options to help my dog, who suffers from chronic allergies, and itches all the time. The cost of a checkup and the medication's are comparable to those of my local vet. The only additional charge is the travel fee. However, for me, it is definitely worth it because of the convenience. However, they also offer a program you can sign up for that helps to cover this cost. Dr. Anna Kate was kind enough to tell me a little about it during their visit today and I plan on looking into it. Dr. Anna, Kate, and Javier are both incredibly kind and compassionate and very professional. They answered all of my questions, and never once made me feel like they were rushing. They took their time with my dog, and we're very loving with her. I highly recommend this mobile vet service. You will not find two more compassionate and amazing people than Dr. Anna Kate and Javier! (I tried to take a selfie with them, but did not realize my phone was on portrait mode. So they appear kind of blurry. Blind girl problems!)

They were able to get us in within 24 hours, which was such a relief during an incredibly stressful and emotional time. Dr. Gaines was compassionate and knowledgeable. After Briscoe's scans and X-rays came back clear, he walked us through different possibilities and treatment options, helping us make informed decisions without ever feeling rushed or overwhelmed. He took the time to show us how to administer Briscoe's IV fluids at home and explained what signs to look for. He also gave us thoughtful tips on managing Briscoe's medications and what to monitor over the weekend. The entire staff was equally kind and supportive. They handled Briscoe so gently and respectfully, helping carry him between rooms and back to our car. It meant the world to see our baby treated with such care and dignity. Unfortunately, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize Briscoe less than a week later. But I'll always be grateful that his final days were spent under the care of such a warm and attentive team. The Village Vet is a small cozy facility but it's clear that everyone there truly cares. Thank you for being there when we needed it most.
